Will pulse ingredients first and then starts continually grinding. Does a great job of breaking up frozen fruit.

The only reason I'm holding back from the 5-star rating is because the description says that it is "Oster - Pro 500 3-Speed Blender - Brushed Nickel" and in fact it really is "Oster - Pro 500 3-Speed Blender - Cheap Plastic that looks like Brushed Nickel in the picture". We'll see how it fares over time...but you know BB doesn't let you revise your reviews over time.

Glass is better than plastic

Oster has been making quality blenders for over 50 years . I wanted a blender with a glass jar , there are not many companies that still make them . It has a metal drive system , detachable base for ease of cleaning and a center lid plug for adding ingredients during blending . If you want a reliable and economical blender for making smoothies , take a look at Oster .
