A Christmas tragedy for a Senior

Twas the night after Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring. I grabbed that gift that was left under the tree, an Otterbox Defender for my new Apple IPhone 6 plus still whirring. I opened the box with great care only to discover a leaflet that had pictures but no explanation to aid in helping my curiosity to cure. I proceeded to pull out the Otterbox with great glee and managed to separate the clip holder box from the base for sure. I placed my iPhone between the box parts in hopes that I would be delighted but alas the combination was premature. The base had this plastic in it that I was sure was packing, but would not come out, despite all my tugging. So with scissors and considerable effort, I pulled that plastic right out so secure. Looking at the inner box, I desperately searched the internet for signs that perhaps I was in error and found that that the Otterbox was actually a family of four. The problem was that I had no idea how to pull the neoprene seal from the inner box, a step so secret that no internet search would cure. Twas the second day after Christmas, there were no true loves to feel, only that Otterbox with that darn neoprene seal. Twas the third day after Christmas, and my mood was deflated by a thing that was so unsure. I found that plastic I ripped out was a screen protector with regrets. I called Otterbox support only to find the wait was ten minutes but I prevailed without a meal. Finally an answer from Otterbox that suggested my wait was to no avail. The man suggested have you tried a dime or penny to pry that neoprene seal? His hint was more than a coin, since he indicated that an open port might be the target to pry, a thought which was counter indicated by several internet lures. But sure enough, that coin did work and on day three I actually announced, my Otterbox family of four did appear. With a flip of the mouse, I ordered another inner box to unite my family of four, complete with a new screen protector to dry my tears. The only conclusion from this story, a sad one at that is please Otterbox, provide more advice for us seniors to be clear.

    Best protection for your phone

If you've used Otterbox before you know what you are getting with this case. Will keep your phone well protected from most situations. I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to the 6 Plus and had a Defender on my 4 shortly after I bought it. When I traded that in it looked brand new still. I expect the same with this case. It seems as much an improvement as the iPhone was. The rubber is much firmer and the openings tighter. It just feels sturdier. I got my 6 Plus shortly after launch and got the best case I could find at the time to protect it temporarily, but could not wait for this case to become available. It was well worth the wait. Most of the cons I've seen a lot of people post about in reviews are minimal unless it is something that is really that important to you. Like the buttons are very stiff in the beginning, but they do loosen up with some use. Personally I like them being a little stiffer like that as opposed to how loose the buttons were on the older models. The silent switch is a little tough to reach, but not a big deal unless you like to use that a lot and quickly. The case is bulky compared to others, but that's what you get when you want better protection. Most of these are minor inconveniences at worst. The only thing that really affects me is the protective screen does not fit flush to the screen. It doesn't make the touch screen unusable, but you do have to press down a little harder sometimes because of it. Took me a little while to get used to it. The only thing I wish could be different is if you could remove the screen and add your own protective glass. Would highly recommend this case to anybody who wants the best protection they can get for their phone.

Tough & Durable Protection for the iPhone 6 Plus

I've never owned an OtterBox before. They appeared to add too much bulk to my iPhone 5S. But then I upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus, I needed to ensure my expensive new phone had the most durable protection. The case itself is tough! Inserting the phone was easy, too. I really liked that the case came with a built-in transparent screen protector AND a fingerprint sensor protector. The fingerprint sensor works flawlessly. It's such a thin coating but so far it hasn't been scratched or damaged after spending most of its time in my front pocket. Which brings me to my next favorite thing: the grip. The grip is impressive. It doesn't slip or slide out of my hand OR my front pocket. The case adds a little bulk to the iPhone 6 Plus but not so much that it's TOO bulky. In fact, it helps keep my phone in my front pocket even when sitting down. Before I bought this case it used to slide out of my pocket when I'd sit, but no more sliding! The charging port, ringer switch and headphone jacks are nicely covered; they only needs to be opened with a slight tug to expose the port. This can be tricky when you're in a dark room, like the bedroom when you're trying not to wake up your spouse plugging in the charger as it's a little awkward. I don't use the added belt clip, but it appears to be nice and sturdy. It's just not my thing. The circular cutout shows off the Apple Logo nicely so you can show off that you have an iPhone with pride! Definitely loving the OtterBox now!

I am severely disappointed with my newest Otterbox. I recently purchased an Otterbox for my iPhone 6 plus. I am having that problem that the person at customer support called the "trampoline effect," where the screen protector does not contact the screen because of a gap. it causes me to have to press multiple times and/or press much harder in order for the touchscreen to register. So we went through the process to get a warranty replacement, and then the guy tells me that it will be $6.99 plus tax to get it shipped out to me. What?!? If it is under WARRANTY, then Otterbox should be paying the shipping/processing, not me. It is a defective product. I am not going to pay them more money to get a defective product replaced under WARRANTY. I am seriously considering returning this case, and then purchasing another brand. As a matter of fact, I think I will do that for ALL of my Otterbox products. If they can't make this right without charging me to get a defective product replaced under warranty, then I will no longer buy Otterbox products.

I've been an Otterbox Defender user for several years. As a firefighter, I'm very rough on my electronics and the Otterbox Defender case has always kept my iPhone in great condition. I was in the store today and saw they had one... I picked it up and immediately put it on after leaving. The first thing I noticed was the input of my fingers would miss constantly. There seems to be a gap between the screen and screen protector. This void caused multiple issues with simple tasks like clicking an icon. I'm very disappointed in this product and can't recommend it. I plan on calling their customer service tomorrow to see if they're coming out with an updated version... From looking at other reviews, this is the main gripe, but it's a critical one. The rest of the case seems fine. Iunfortunately it doesn't look like my new 6 plus will get a defender case.

I have had my iPhone 6 Plus for about 2 months and have gone through 3 cases. The first was the Platinum, very sleek and what my husband brought it home with for me. I like more "bling" on my phone cases normally so I picked up a very flashy plastic case with rhinestones on the back - I loved how it looked but it broke within a week so it was a waste of $80 =\ The third was a nice leather case with gold trim, again more my "style" but I dropped my phone from 2 feet and the screen shattered. So I was convinced by my hubby to get an otterbox for my replacement phone - they're all he uses for his phones and now I see why. This thing is the definition of a rugged, protective phone case. It was easy to put on and to make a point my husband threw it across the room and it was fine! I still need to get used to how huge this thing is, and the screen cover isn't quite flush against the screen so it is a little more difficult to type on. But I will never go back to a stupid flashy phone case again, it's not worth it! Huge bonuses - the pink is cute so it doesn't feel like just a giant manly phone case. And Best Buy price matched the Amazon price that I showed them, so I still got a great deal and didn't have to wait for shipping. I'm expecting this case to last the lifetime of this phone so it is well worth it!

My leather pouch belt clip broke, and I was stuck with a great case in the Tech 21 case, however, I needed something to put on my belt. I was unable to find a belt pouch large enough for the iPhone 6 plus, so my options were the Platinum case with a belt clip, or this Otterbox. I had previously owned the Platinum case and found it annoying because the phone would move around inside the case as though the case was too big for the phone. Not wanting to take that chance again, I spent the extra money and bought the Otterbox Defender and have been pleased since. It does add additional bulk and weight to the phone, but for the protection it offers and the belt clip, it was worth it to me. It will not be for everyone though. As a side note, I loved my Tech 21 case and would have not gotten rid of that one had it had a belt clip or I could have found a belt pouch. That case is much slimmer and lighter and provides great protection. Hard to be an Otterbox though. I was also able to get the plastic screen protector punched out at the store since I already had a glass protector already on it. That makes a big difference too because the Otterbox built in screen protector is not very good at all.

I can't imagine anything better, but I'm sure there are "as good". Was looking at another brand, but took a look at this when the other was out of stock, since my (30-ish) son has had one successfully protecting his iPhone 4 for years. He immediately wrapped one around his new iPhone 6+ last month, so only the price caused me pause. Took a little extra effort figuring out how to open it (had to go back see the Best Buy guy), but once in pieces, easy to encase my iPhone 6+ (also). Since I have big hands, the bulk added makes it comfortable to handle. The "caution" part is that while it survives the occasional drop, fumble or mishandle, I wouldn't deliberately push the limits by bouncing it off the wall like Steve McQueen in the Great Escape. (I expect anyone who understands the reference, or even knows what The Great Escape even is, is probably mature enough not to try, lol). The only disgruntlement is the extra effort it takes to tap, or press, the screen, but not so much that one is concerned about cracking the screen or anything. I have dropped it in puddle (not on purpose), and was happy to have the screen cover.

This phone case is very protective and very shock absorbent... So if you're looking for a great protective case this one will make sure your phone survives those accidentall drops. Another plus is I liked that the apple logo was view-able through the back... Where I think this case went wrong is its really really bulky for a phone thats already huge. Another thing they can improve is the flap on the bottom where you plug in your phone gets an ugly crease from bending it up and you cant avoid the crease unless you completely take off the case each time you charge your phone which really is a hassel. The last thing is that the case isnt flush with the phone so you have to continuously clean the inside of your case to get out dust and any other little particles that entered through the openings... Lastly is that the touch screen is a little bit spaced from the screen which also allowed dust to enter which if not taken care of could scratch up the very thing you invested your money to protect....

This is my third defender for different iPhones over the years. I drop my phone A LOT! These defenders have saved my phones and have kept all looking brand new and working perfectly for years! I really like the upgrades they have made to the case. It fits better and the flaps for access fit much better than my older ones. The only downside I've noticed is the flap for the charge port doesn't give great access to the port due to lifting of the flap to try to get charge cord in. I also really wish the case blocked the phone better from the bottom side up to the port as it's very easy to get the cord pushed in between the case and phone scratching the phone up! That is very disappointing to me since my others look perfect after so many years each and this new one is getting scratches around the charge port due to this difficulty lifting the flap up and getting cord into port rather than space between. I do have some difficulty with the phone realizing I'm touching something on the screen with the new screen cover built into this one. I didn't have this problem with the older ones. Otherwise I very much like the case.

I love my Otter Box Defender. I officially switched to otter box after having gone through 4 phone cases at the time that I had first purchased my IPhone 4. When I purchased the 5C, I decided to try the otter box and was extremely happy with the results and the fact that it lived up to what it offered. Built in screen protector, three layer protection, and very sturdy. This case is not bulky. I have only had to purchase one case in the past two years, which was awesome. The case that I had was very sturdy. Since I updated my phone, I also had to purchase a new case and so because of the great experience that I had with my first case I decided to purchase another otter box defender case. This is such a great product, I love it! I even purchased the otter box defender case for my son's iPad mini.

Otterbox Defender iphone 6 plus - it keeps it safe

Good value - much less expensive than new lifeproof for the 6+.. It is pretty big and bulky - kind of like a "rubberbabybuggybumper" for my iphone. BUT it is something I can deal with, considering it is less expensive than a broken phone would be. I wanted something that would protect it from a drop and this does it well. I can see how it would be REALLY hard for someone with tiny hands to use the phone with this case...but its not too much of a problem for me since I don't have tiny hands. The blue color does NOT match the one online here atr Best buy - I was disappointed by that. The other thing that DOES really bug me is that the Holster back should have a cutout for the phone's camera. Easy to miss an opportunity because you cant just swipe to get a picture with that back blocking your lens! Otterbox - you should have thought that one through more. Would I buy it again - I guess...but only because a more streamllined one at the same price with the same protective features hasn't presented itself yet to me

Good case overall. The built in screen protector is a little annoying because u have to press/touch harder than you would if you just had a stick on screen protector. Also, that makes texting a little noisy... The protector feels sturdy and it's hard to take off, which isn't a big deal. I have the all black defender case, and my wife has the neon rose. The neon rose gets dirty and turns gray around the edges. Also, both of us took off the plastic that goes over the Touch ID button. It gets wrinkled, Touch ID doesn't work too well with it... and wears out quickly. Just take it off and clean off the tape stickiness that it leaves behind on the screen.

      OtterBox Customer Support

      Hey Danny,

We’re glad that the Defender is keeping both of the phones safe! The screen protector should not be making it difficult to use your screen. If this is a big hindrance please let us know. That’s a bummer that your wife’s Defender is holding on to some dirt. We always suggest cleaning our products using mild soap and water (never with abrasive or corrosive cleaners that may damage the case). If this doesn’t clear things up, please feel free to give our friendly Otters a call at 1-855-688-7269, and we’ll be more than happy to set you up with a warranty replacement.

I bought this after hearing that Otterbox makes the most durable cases. I'm impressed with the durable rubber case and it has probably saved my screen from getting cracked a few times. The built in screen cover does a great job of protecting the screen, but it does reduce the screen's sensitivity a bit and cause your taps on the screen to be quite a bit louder. The main downfall I have experienced is the seal between the hard plastic case and the outer protective rubber case. After about 6 months, the rubber has completely lost it's seal. It used to be a tight seal all the way around the phone, but now it seems to have stretched out around the corners. I've only had to remove the phone from the case once, so it's not stretched out from repeated opening/closing. It's not a huge deal because the case is not supposed to be waterproof anyway, but I wish the seal was more airtight.

The Otterbox Defender for the iPhone 6+ is exactly what you expect from Otterbox, a well designed case which fits snugly to your device. My only complaint about the case itself is the plastic screen cover, it's the same complaint I have had since the Defender cases were introduced, the screen cover does not fit snugly to the screen creating gaps which not only affect the viewing experience as well as navigating/typing on the screen. I have always removed the screen protector before installing the case and will continue to do so until Otterbox provides a better fit. This is my only knock on the defender case, it works as described otherwise and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'll also add, Otterbox stands behind their products, I have warrantied cases in the past and they have always stood behind their product even when the issue was admittedly my fault. Great company with a great product.

This is a large and protective case for my iPhone 6+. I needed a case with holster and one that did not separate or pull apart at a seam. I had the Platinum case which failed in 3 weeks. The Platinum separated and sent my new phone crashing to the pavement. There is no possibility of that happening with this Otterbox. There are two issues I would like to point out. The screen protector does not sit flush to the screen. There is a definite give when tapping the screen but it doesn't really affect my usage. My second issue with this case is the extra width. It will not fit in my recently purchased car mount or fit comfortably in my pants pocket. The included holster does the job but there are times I would rather put it in my pocket and go. The bottom line is the case does the job and, for me,the trade offs are acceptable.

Absolutely excellent fit and finish. This product reeks of durability. Solid construction and quality with the exception of space between the screen cover and the iPhone screen- annoying and possibly a deal-breaker for me. I'll give it a week or two then decide on returning it. The space between the cover and screen frequently causes a need for multiple taps or multiple swipes. Aside from that design (manufacturing?) weakness, the case is sturdy with tight tolerances for the price. You've got a new $800 phablet, so be smart and protect it. With the cover on, buttons work just fine as does the home key. I don't use the clip on case, but it does have a smartly designed clip that spins around and functions as a kickstand. I appreciate the added bulk. For me the 6, unprotected, is too thin and slippery for my grubby hands. The rubber makes it feel quite acceptable grippy.

If you are looking for something that can withstand any amount of force and you dont worry about the bulk on the iphone 6 + (Which by the way is huge itself), THEN GO FOR IT. It will protect it from any fall (not in water though). My issues with this case: Too big and adds a lot of bulk to it. The touch screen is just not right. It does not fit the screen properly (it a little lifted in the Fit) and hence you really have to press hard to use the keyboard which kills the function of your phone. Another issue is pressing the On/Off and other buttons on the phone. It should give you some exercise doing that. Go for it if you really need a lot of protection and dont worry about the bulk. For others please use a slimmer cheaper phone and go for $99 SquareTrade 2 Yrs protection plan (this case is $59 by the way). The 2 yrs protection will give you peace of mind.

I used Otterbox a long time ago when I first got my iPhone 4. It was the best around. As I've changed phones, I've discovered Lifeproof and found it to be better. When I upgraded to the iPhone 6+, there wasn't (and still isn't) a Lifeproof case for it yet. I bought an Otterbox to try them again and also because I needed to protect the phone. It scores high in protection from dropping and dust, as far as I can tell. It also appears to be good for light moisture resistance. Where I have trouble is that it's large and the screen cover gives problems with sensitivity. That is to say that you have to press harder than normal and with the new apple multiple step touch ability, it can be frustrating at times. I would recommend this to someone that wants to protect their investment, but only until the Lifeproof case comes out.
