I find the data the ring collects very insightful, however, the ring does scratch easily. I would recommend a cover for when using it while weight lifting.

The concept of the ring great. Unfortunately, I had to return it. The ring was in the way of working out ( holding kettlebells and/or dumbbells) and it was very heavy on my pointer finger

If you're looking for something small and discreet to keep track of your health, fitness, sleep and energy, then this Oura ring is right up your alley! The Oura Ring is a membership service that has given me a whole to way to look at my personal health. It has sensors in the ring that track all types of things such as heart rate, activity levels, sleep rhythms, alertness and readiness, meal logging, and more. It even has an explore mode that plays meditation, breathing exercises, and sleep relaxation help audio. The ring is very easy to set up and get using. It comes with a unique ring charging base, and a nice usb-c cable to plug into it. It does not come with the wall plug end. The ring only fits onto the charger one way and will light up once seated on the stand. It charges fairly quickly, and the battery will stay charged for multiple days. I have been able to wear my ring for just over 5 days from full before it died on me. It can also send a notification to your phone to let you know when it is time to charge. You do have to wear the ring a specific way on your finger, so the sensors line up right. There is a little line on one side that you turn the ring so that it is on the same side as your palm. The ring is super comfortable and this specific ring has a ceramic outer shell. It is very easy to keep clean, and is not easy to scratch up. The ring is advertised to be completely water resistant up to 7m, so that you can wear the ring for everything you do like when I wash dishes, take showers, go swimming, etc. It is a completely active ring and has performed very well for me in wet conditions. I just make sure to dry it off and put it back on just like I would my wedding ring. I have been able to utilize every aspect of what this ring offers except the blood glucose level. For that you need a separate device called a stelo sensor. You can track the results of the stelo sensor within the Oura app. I have been thoroughly impressed with this ring overall, even compared to a smart watch counterpart. I find it quite more enjoyable to wear a ring, than a bulky smartwatch to track my fitness. The sleep trends has been the most helpful for me as it helps me track how long I actually slept, how long I was in REM sleep, tracks sleep apnea symptoms, and more. The meal tracking has been very helpful as well as to lay out my whole diet and how it plays into my overall health and fitness. The meditation has been extremely helpful as well and you can also pick from a list of soundscapes to use while the meditation voice is playing. I find it very relaxing. Overall I would recommend this Oura ring to everyone. It has so many benefits and tracks so many different things to help with your health journey. Absolutely fantastic ring!

I ended up returning the ring. The ring was too bulky. I had it on my ring finger and it was bruising my middle finger. I liked how’s it could monitor my heart rate and sleep etc. just was not happy with how it fit.

UNPACKING In a sense, it was like opening a pirate’s treasure chest — because inside was a jewel. As I unpacked it, I was taken aback by the beauty of the midnight blue ceramic finish. It seemed to change colors right before my eyes, depending on how the light struck it. It was as smooth as buttered glass. I felt like Bilbo must have felt when he first picked up The Ring — there was an allure about it, a subtle irresistible beckoning to put it on. The inner band gleams like fine silver, and the sensors catch the light like tiny gemstones. The union of that deep blue ceramic with the polished stainless interior is simply a sight to behold. The setup was amazingly simple — and I don’t use that word lightly. Nothing out of the ordinary, no fuss or frustration. A quick download of the Oura app, a few straightforward steps, and within minutes it was ready to go. That marriage between the ring and the app forms a kind of digital library filled with meaningful information: sleep scores, activity levels, oxygen saturation, calories burned, live heart rate, temperature variations, and exercise tracking. It’s a treasure trove of insight that makes it nearly impossible not to understand how to improve your health and fitness. The app itself is equally impressive. It presents complex data in clearly defined, down-to-earth terms. Even someone entirely new to the world of fitness can observe, understand, and act on what they see. It offers useful insights, meaningful benchmarks, and tracks details often overlooked on the journey toward better health. I love the way it keeps everything organized, presenting the data in ways that can truly lay the foundation for lifestyle changes — the kind that almost guarantee a longer, healthier life. LIVING WITH THE RING Once the novelty wore off — or rather, settled into appreciation — I began to notice something remarkable. The Oura Ring doesn’t feel like technology. It doesn’t announce itself or demand attention. It simply becomes part of you. I wore it through full days of work, exercise, and rest. The comfort was exceptional. Unlike wrist trackers that tug or pinch or remind you they’re there, the ring sits so naturally on the hand that I often forgot I was wearing it at all. Even during yard work, when I’d normally expect grit or discomfort, the ring held steady — never intrusive, never awkward. At night, it performed beautifully. While I slept, it quietly observed the rhythms of my body — heart rate, oxygen levels, temperature, movement — and by morning, it presented a detailed portrait of my night’s rest. Not just numbers, but a narrative: how long I spent in each sleep stage, how efficiently I rested, and what that meant for the day ahead. There’s a kind of elegance in how it merges science with simplicity. It doesn’t lecture, it teaches. I found myself checking the readiness score each morning, not out of obsession, but out of genuine curiosity. It felt like the ring and I were in conversation — a daily dialogue about balance, recovery, and the gentle art of listening to one’s own body. Over the next few days, patterns began to emerge. The nights I pushed myself too hard at the gym, the Oura knew. The mornings after a quiet evening in the yard, it reflected calm and recovery. It didn’t scold or praise; it simply showed me myself. And that, I think, is where its true value lies. The Oura Ring doesn’t try to make you someone else — it helps you become more aware of the person you already are. THE PRACTICAL AND THE PROFOUND After a full week of living with the Oura Ring, I can say this much: it’s not just a gadget. It’s a companion — one that whispers rather than shouts. Battery life has been excellent. I can go several days without charging, and when I do, the charge time is short enough that it never feels like a chore. The app syncs seamlessly every time, without hiccups or dropped connections — something that’s surprisingly rare in this age of “smart” devices. The only mild irritations, if they can even be called that, are minor. There’s the subscription cost, of course, and the realization that the battery is sealed within the ring, never meant to be replaced. But these are details, not deal-breakers. They pale beside the overall experience. What impresses me most is how quietly intelligent it all feels. There are no flashing screens or endless buzzes, no need to scroll or swipe or chase the next metric. It simply gathers, learns, and reports — all while maintaining an elegant dignity. It’s rare to find technology that encourages stillness. The Oura Ring does. It invites awareness rather than anxiety. It gives feedback, not commands. And for someone like me — a 68-year-old man who’s lived long enough to know that simpler often means better — that balance matters. The midnight blue ceramic still catches me off guard sometimes. In the sunlight, it glows with quiet confidence; in the evening, it deepens into shadow, like something ancient and wise. I suppose that’s fitting. It’s a ring that measures the most modern of data but does so with the timeless grace of something that could have come from an age of myth. So, did I do good? Yes. I did real good. This little ring has earned its place — not as another gadget to charge and forget, but as a small, beautiful reminder to listen. To the body. To the rhythm of the day. To the simple miracle of being alive. There is no question as to whether I will recommend this ring to my friends/family or not, because I most certainly will be. I never imagined how a ring could have such an impact on my daily life, but the Oura Ring 4? It most certainly has made a difference. Thank you Oura for a product that is a life changer!!

Oura Ring Opens a World of Health Information

Oura - Ring 4 Ceramic - Smart Ring The Oura Ring 4 ceramic color choices are: Midnight, Tide, and Petal. I chose the color Cloud for its ability to be neutral with all palette colors. Be sure and take your time and find the right fit for your ring by taking advantage of the ring-sizing kit. The ring sizes are from 4-15 with no half sizes. It is recommended that you use one of the three middle fingers to wear your ring since they offer the best skin contact for the ring. I started out by putting my ring on my ring finger but during the night it would spin around. The literature states that the ring can turn up to 30 degrees on the finger and still get readings, I decided to put it on the preferred index finger for the best accuracy. The company offered a free ceramic polishing pad, and I took advantage of that offer. The battery life statistics show the Oura ring lasts between five (5) and eight (8) days. I never concerned myself with how many days the battery would last since my routine is to charge it while I am taking my morning bath. It takes about 20 minutes, and the app on my phone notifies me when it is fully charged. The app is available for iOS or Android. I have an iPhone and the process to download the app and opt to pay a monthly/yearly fee to access all resources and insights available with the ring is very straightforward. There are other available paid integrations that I might take advantage of later, but the primary membership opens a ton of ring abilities for $5.99 per month or $69.00 per year. I am not a swimmer or diver just a bath and shower taker so although the ring is waterproof it wasn’t the most important factor to me, but I really love to read about technological triumphs and I think when sports enthusiasts read about the ability to use the ring in a water environment it will be a plus for them (you might read up on this). My whole reason for wanting to obtain the Oura ring was to help me understand my sleep pattern I had developed. I wanted to improve to a more restful and restorative sleep situation. I was concerned how insomnia was affecting my health. Be prepared to be intrigued and amazed how changed sleep habits can make a real difference in your daily life. My personal journey took me from insomnia to a full 8-hour sleep pattern with a good amount of REM sleep. When I first started wearing the ring I had about 43 minutes of REM sleep. Now I am averaging over 2 hours of REM each night. The app encourages a regular daily pattern of going to bed and getting up in sync with your normal body rhythm. From my experience it takes time to adjust but I kept using the app’s Advisor, one of my favorite aspects of the ring, to help guide me. There are various reasons why different people may have trouble getting to sleep. But once you start getting enough sleep with the ring’s help as shown through the Advisor, you will be ready to get up and tackle other options that the ring has to offer. I have also started taking advantage of logging in meals for the nutritional and meal timing insights the app offers. You can take a picture of your plate of food, and it will give you information on your meal selection such as whether changing some of the items will be more helpful in my health goals. I still have much to learn. Don’t think a reviewer can give you full details of what there is to offer with this ring because it takes time to use the ring and discover where you are health-wise and what you might be able to add on as far as integrations to bring you to a more optimum health state. When you first begin your journey to a better you the app may tell you it needs several weeks of data from the ring’s information to give you feedback in some areas. There is much you can read and learn through the app about written scientific articles available. I also plan to take advantage of the Testing Hub. My first result regarding caffeine came in today. I am excited to see how having my last cup of coffee 6 hours before bedtime will affect my statistics over the next couple of weeks. Take advantage of the Get Help tab in the app along with the virtual assistant articles and additional integrations that are available or that will be coming in the near future. I have read that the Oura app will continue to have updates which is awesome. Looking forward to what is next. I could write so much more but the whole point of a review is how well the device is working and is it as beneficial as they say in order to pay the price that they are asking for it. In my personal life within just a few weeks I am already reaping the rewards. So, I give this Oura ring high marks. As far as any negatives the only one I would like to do an integrative meal plan but that is behind a paywall and that isn’t in my budget yet!
