Posted .Hi NewP.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Outdoor Cam Plus capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to motion detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. Here are a few tips to optimize the motion settings on your security camera:
1. Adjust Motion Sensitivity: Ring devices can detect motion up to 30 feet with the Motion Sensitivity slider at the maximum level. If you turn Motion Sensitivity down, this range will be lower, decreasing false motion. If your device is missing motion, increase the Motion Sensitivity using the slider.
2. Change the position of your Ring device: Adjust the position of your camera to improve the accuracy of motion detection.
3. Turn on Smart Alerts: You can enable Smart Alerts on your doorbell or camera to improve motion accuracy in detecting people and other objects, including packages. To turn on Smart Alerts, tap the Motion Settings tile on the device’s page in the Ring app. A Ring Home Plan is required to use Smart Alerts.
4. Change the Motion Frequency: Under Advanced Settings, tap Motion Frequency. You can adjust how often battery-powered devices check for motion. If your device is missing motion events, increase the Motion Frequency to Frequently (Shortest battery life—Motion detection always stays active) in the Ring app. If too much motion is being detected, change the frequency to Regularly (Medium battery life—Motion detection takes a short break after each motion alert) or Periodically (Maximum battery life—Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert).

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Outdoor Cam Plus to record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Ring devices require high-speed internet to bring you crisp, clear video and audio. Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues and delays that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.
Here are some examples of video quality issues:
Overexposed, washed-out videos: Washed-out videos may be due to overexposure to sunlight.
Poor wifi signal strength: A decline in wifi signal strength may be caused by a weak connection between the router and your Ring device.
Traveling signal strength: This may be due to a wifi dead zone in your home where you lose signal strength between the router and your Ring device.
Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.
Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI. Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.
We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:
Footage is crisp and clear: If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.
Footage is heavily pixelated: If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds.
Severe pauses in live video: If your video pauses, stutters, or gets frozen and your wifi speed meets the minimum standards, try rebooting your router. Unplug your router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. It should take three to four minutes to reboot. Then, test your Ring device again and see if there's any difference.
Long delay before your video starts: This is also caused by slow wifi speeds. Assuming you have high-speed internet, reboot your router and the mobile phone, tablet, or PC you're accessing the video feed on. Then, see if there's any difference when it's back on line.

Great Camera to Watch Over Anything
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ring has long been known for their video doorbells that help you keep an eye on your front (or back) door from anywhere. ALL that experience in building compact but high performing video cameras that can run forever on battery power in all conditions is on full display with this Outdoor Cam Plus. At its heart is a high performing wide angle video camera that gets great pictures in all conditions, day and night (the camera includes infrared illumination to get solid black and white pictures at night). You can see a lot given the wide angle and it’s all clear (there is some distortion at the edges given the wide angle nature of the lens, but that’s normal with any camera equipped with that type of lens and a fair trade off for the wider field of view). The camera is fully waterproofed so it can live outside (though it’s equally at home indoors) and the battery lasts a LONG time though of course this will depend on how much you’re using live view / how often the motion is triggered. You can also run the camera plugged in if you wish, but you’ll give up some of the waterproof nature to do so. Setup was quite easy (though you’ll need the latest version of the Ring app to do the setup) and it can connect to a variety of WiFi networks. Once connected, it’s pretty set and forget. You also get a trial (30 days) to the Ring cloud service which is key if you want to record events / get notifications to your phone. You can choose to buy a subscription for a single camera or for all cameras on your account and the subscriptions are fairly reasonable, but something you should consider when buying the camera. Mounting is also fairly easy and the mount is very flexible to different orientations and positions. You can also set the camera on a shelf or other handy location if you don’t want to mount it. So there you have it - a flexible, go anywhere battery powered camera from the name in outdoor home video monitoring. If you’re looking to keep an eye on something or some place, this is a great option - give it a try today!

Awesome and portable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this Outdoor Cam Plus. The picture/video quality is amazing, especially for a battery operated cam. The onboard siren isn't very loud, certainly not enough to alert the neighborhood, but should scare off any intruders when you activate it. Intercom feature works well but has a slight delay. Set up is a breeze, especially if you already have an existing active Ring account and the app on your phone. As I already have ring products, set up took me 5 minutes after installing a fully charged battery. You're able to adjust the motion sensitivity, zones to report on, and if you want live notifications or not. This does not have an onboard light, but does have night vision. Even in grayscale, the picture is sharp. Easy to get a clear picture of any people or animals at night. You can set smart alerts to only send notifications if it detects a person, vehicle, or all motion, while still recording the event. You can mount the cam indoors or out. Wall or ceiling. Or leave it unmounted and set on a table, ledge, desk, etc for portability. You can test locations for the best spot to add it. Definitely recommend

Great All-Round Camera. Easy and Versatile.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pretty excited to give this a try, as I really was looking for something without wires that I could easily mount and set up in the spot I was looking to cover. Overall, I didn’t really have any issues getting it where I wanted it or with the setup process. It’s about what you would expect, more or less all done through the app. This is my first Ring device, but I would expect those familiar with the line would have an even easier time. Once up, I have to say I am pretty impressed. I think the video quality is very good, day or night, regardless of the lighting. Clear and crisp. Beyond that though, I like the feature set. Live view worked as I hoped, motion detection was responsive and prompt, as was the two-way talk feature. The siren is a nice add and I really don’t think I need much more. At least for now. I am thinking about picking up another one or two, and I really want to look into the Ring plans to see how much or what I really need. I like the coverage and features, as they are, but I will see. Additionally, I need to see how the battery holds up. I “think” I can add a solar panel, or even just buy another camera with the panel, but that may be overkill, especially if I am ok with the battery life. Ultimately, I really like this camera. It is built well, and I think it should hold up over time, there are a few mounting options which made the installation simple, and the setup was also an easy process. Most importantly, I think it delivers a clear picture and has all of the features I was looking for. I do think you miss a few things that would be nice to have without a subscription, but that is more of an individual choice than anything. I think this would be great for a first camera, like me, or as an addition to an existing setup. I think the value is there.

Great battery powered security camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little outdoor camera. It was really easy setup, charge the battery and once it's charged the setup was a breeze via the app. The instructions were clear and it was also very easy to mount outside with the mounting plate and screws. It also comes with heavy duty wall anchors if you need them. The instructions says it supports a wiring adapter as well but I went with the battery. So far the camera has been up for several days and is operating great. Ring appears to offer extra batteries to avoid downtime if needed. In addition, the picture is crystal clear and the Ring app overall is very easy to use. It loads very quickly on my WiFi network (whether I'm at home or away) and I can view the history or see live video and it usually loads within a few seconds. The notification functionality and detection zones work great and the app does a good job of helping you find a balance between the right number of alerts and maximizing battery life. The sound also comes through crystal clear and folks on the other side can hear you when you use the microphone function. All in a all a great camera if you need to mount one where you don't have wiring readily available.

A great addition to the ring ecosystem 2K wireless
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently own a ring doorbell camera and a ring spotlight cam (gen 1) with solar panel, and thought why not extend the range of my cameras and pick up this 2K battery powered camera. Having an account already setup and active, this was a very simple and straight forward setup. Just scan the barcode either from the device or the paper included add to network, tweek the settings for motion detection recording area etc and done. I really love how easy it is to setup these cameras. The Good: 2K image (vid quality dependent upon internet bandwidth and device temperature) 160° Diagonal, 140° Horizontal, 80° Vertical field of view low light sight good lasting battery, optional accessory to charge by solar panel security siren alert abled dualband wifi (2.4Ghz, 5.0Ghz)\ WiFi 6 The Bad: not too many things bother me about this camera if i had to try and find things wrong with this camera to nitpick i feel the security siren is not as loud as expected and the unit feels a little bulky. Overall this is a great upgrade and add to my current ring system, i love the field of view and depth it provides as well as the clarity of the images at a distance. Compared to my other outside camera (spotlight cam) it feel at very least 35% better in all aspects (clarity, distance, fov). If you already are invested into the ring ecosystem, i would sincerely pick one (or two) of these units up. the price point is good and the quality is worth a look.

Great new ring camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Ring outdoor camera fits right in with my other ring cameras. Once received, I tried to set it up, but the app stated I needed an update before I could install. I waited a couple of days and saw there was an update so I tried again. This time, it allowed me to set up. The setup is just as easy as it usually is, using the app and the camera to point at the camera's barcode to add to app and account. We've decided this one needs to go at the back door. It is extremely easy to mount - just move the base from the bottom to the back. The settings are the same as the other cameras in the system, there's snapshots at regular intervals when not recording video. They all are set to recommended settings so if you have settings that are different, you'll have to make those changes. The images and video are fantastic clarity due to 2k and the new ring vision. Sound is good as well. The battery lasted about a week when night temperatures dropped in the low 40s and highs are in the 70s. I do have an outdoor outlet just below where the camera is mounted so that will be used as soon as I get a dedicated cord and power adapter. This camera is a great addition to my ring system and I'm happy to have my back door covered. I feel more protected now that this camera is in place with the visual clarity it provides.

It's Good, but Not Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do love the simplicity of the Ring ecosystem. I have the floodlight cam, the home alarm and other indoor cameras. I was excited to see that Ring came out with a 2k version with this 3rd generation of their outdoor camera and needed one to cover my side driveway for security. Setup was simple like all other ring devices, scan the QR code, follow the prompts, and voila! I have it joined to a dedicated IOT network on my mesh system which is 2.4 GHZ solely, as this camera operates only on a 2.4 GHZ network. I have mine mounted with a solar panel, and mounting was easy as well. As far as the quality of the footage and streaming etc, that is where I have to remove a star. While it is advertised as 2k, the camera is pretty useless at anything beyond 10-15 feet. I do appreciate the wide angle lens, but, if you try to zoom in to capture any details beyond 10 feet, good luck! It will be incredibly blury and pixelated. Also, I have an issue where I contacted support where my footage would phase objects in and out, like a person would freeze, then stretch across the screen and then re-appear. I went through the gambit, different wi-fi, using my chime pro, reset, settings galore, but I guess that is just how it is! I get it, WiFi at 2k is going to be hard to support at a constant frame, but even the downloaded footage ends up choppy. My spotlight camera does not have the issue as much. Maybe future firmware will true that up. The HDR feature is very nice, it really does add a ton of clarity and color. The night time recording is eh. Even with it's low-light detection, I would rate it as mid. Kind of washes out and makes everything very yellow. But, for the price point and features you get and ease of use and 2k quality, you can't really go wrong, especially if you are already in the Ring ecosystem. Hopefully they continue to improve on this product with future releases!

Crisp Video and sound plus motion detection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this wireless rechargeable security camera to add to our property as an additional security video camera to try out. We may switch over to this type replacing our current wired system. This is super easy to unbox and set up. The instructions are user friendly and it is up and running quickly after the battery is fully charged. Downloading the app and walking through that whole set up and activation is only a few steps. I recommend going to the website and opening the installation instructions. Its simple, but there are things on there that are helpful you wouldn't think of. In my case, it is that the camera has multiple mounting options in addition to just mounting it the way it comes out of the box. The alternate options available to mount opened up a lot more possibilities on where we could place it for the best and clearest view of the area we want to monitor. With that information we were able to find the best spot to monitor our space. We installed this to monitor the area where packages are delivered to combat or at least record any package theft activity. The nice part is you choose when it is armed and what happens when it is armed. We set it for activity after hours or when we are gone. The alerts come to your phone and you can customize how and when these alerts come in as well and then view the video later or in real time. The speaker, microphone and siren is loud and clear. If someone is detected on alter that shouldn't be there, 1 button can scare them off or the other button you can talk to them. Seems pretty versatile and great video clarity so far. You can use this without the subscription plan, without the ability to view and save video. We are working on the trial plan for the first 30 days to see how we like it before buying the plan. We will likely do the upgrade. Short term summary, we really like it so far and may buy more to expand our system.

Camera itself is good; software makes it mediocre
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's an average camera. It does what it's supposed to. Let's start with setup. Some of the packaging is a little hard to get off, but overall it's not too hard to open up. Assembling it is fairly straightforward. You do need to charge the battery via the included Micro USB cable before you start using it. I left it on charging overnight and it was fully charged in the morning. Setting it up is very easy. You just need to download the Ring app and scan a QR code on the camera. After that, it's quite simple to set up. It uses Wi-Fi to connect to the camera I believe. The picture quality is pretty good as well. You can clearly make out faces (although I haven't tried it in the dark) and the video just looks clear overall. You can also receive and send audio via the microphone and speaker in the camera, which is a neat feature. Now for the negatives. Firstly, the camera requires actual mounting, I'm not sure if this is just me, but I thought "Mount it wherever" meant that you didn't need to drill any holes or anything. This was kind of annoying. Secondly, you need a subscription to actually use the camera fully. From what I can tell, the only thing you can do without a subscription is view the camera live, enable motion detection, and turn on the siren. Other than this, it's basically useless without a subscription, which is the main reason I gave it such a low rating.

It sounds like you are concerned with the need for the Ring Home Plan subscription. At Ring, we work hard to be completely transparent in both our products, and the optional services in which we provide. The Ring Home Plan is mentioned on our Ring packaging, on our website, and in the welcome email you received upon setting up your device. Your Ring products provide their standard features (real-time notifications, live view, and two-way talk) without any subscription. Ring Home Plans offer downloading and sharing video capabilities and additional features for those who want them.
