    Excellent counter-top microwave

Microwaves have become a staple of nearly all kitchens. Most homes even have spaces or openings designed into the cabinetry to account for them in a space-saving way. There are cases where a counter-top microwave is needed. This Panasonic counter-top microwave is a perfect solution for such cases. For us, it served as the perfect small office compliment, preventing trips to the kitchen when warming snacks. Pulling the Panasonic microwave from the box, the first impression is plain-Jane. It doesn’t look fancy in any way but would easily blend in most kitchens. After a quick glance at the buttons, I immediately took a look at the size of the heating chamber – checking the size. Panasonic did a good job in this regard. The chamber is much larger than most counter-top microwaves. It can easily hold a large plate or dish. There isn’t much fan fare with regards to a microwave, unless it has some extraordinary features. This microwave’s functionality falls under the pretty standard fare. All the normal functionality is there: timed cooking, power levels, time add, etc. There are a couple of interesting options included as well: a coffee/milk warming option, and a 3-level popcorn button. The predefined modes work very well, producing the desired heat level and results consistently. Whether reheating, popping popcorn, defrosting… It gets the job done, consistently. Powered by 1200 watts, it has a decided advantage over most of its competitors, which usually are between 800 and 1000 watts by comparison. The higher wattage leads to more consistent and thorough heating and cooking. This microwave isn’t quiet, but I don’t think it’s the loudest I have ever encountered either. Overall, this Panasonic microwave is a good buy. It is feature adequate, larger than the average counter-top microwave, and very consistent. It’s not the quietest microwave, but it isn’t extremely loud. The size and warming/cooking consistency make this a can’t miss.

Good microwave. Medium to large size, a little smaller than my old one but much better. Still tall enough to warm my coffee mug which was one of the reasons I bought my old one. I got a new one because my old one was having some problems. The light had burned out a long time ago and no easy way to replace it. Then the turntable quit so I had to rotate manually because of hotspots. Plus it was getting kind of dirty even though I cleaned it often. This new one is great and cooks well. Looks good too. Takes a little less space on my counter. Easy to use and has sensor technology. also appears to use an led bulb which should last much longer. Also turntable which works. A little more power than my old one (1200watt vs 1100watt) and many newer features. I really liked my old one till the turntable quit and it just got to be kind of a pain to cook with. This one seems to be a great replacement for me. Great price too if you don't want to spend a ton for a new microwave. Only one complaint though. When I first put it on my counter it had a wobble in the feet. Not sure why but it didn't sit level. I looked through the packaging for a foot that may have fallen off but nothing there. I just put a small piece of cardboard under the right rear and that solved it. I may put a felt pad or foot on it for a more permanent fix if it resurfaces. I like it and my food cooks better now. Thanks Panasonic. A great brand that has been around a long time.

A very powerful microwave. REALLY heats things up fast…we find ourselves using lower power settings often. For defrosting, it’s easier to just use a low power setting and flip the food… following the directions is cumbersome. We like the sensor heating option, but it really gets the food very hot, AND the containers. There are ways to reduce this, but they are slightly kludgy. FInally, the buttons are a lot more challenging to use than the old GE which this replaced. You really have to center your finger and be intentional about the press…the old GE was mush less taxing to actually use. But this is a STRONG microwave, and ultimately, it’s just a microwave, and we can get used to most things, right?

This is a great countertop microwave. With 1200W of power and sensor cooking you can cook most meals in it. While externally it is compact it has a little more room than my previous microwave of the same size. The Inverter technology cooks more evenly and if you use the sensor you can cook most things well. You have to be careful with some foods because the sensor is for steam this is not always an indication of the proper cooking time so you will have to get used to this with the things you cook. The defrost works well having no problem with defrosting frozen meats and such. Another useful feature is the Keep Warm setting it keeps gravies, sauces, vegetables and other foods fresh and warm up to 30 minutes until ready to serve. This is a great microwave for the price.

It finally came time to replace our old microwave. I was looking for something with a similar footprint but with some more power. Our old unit would leave us with cold spots, especially towards the middle. What caught my attention with this Panasonic model was the inverter technology that is supposed to evenly cook food. Let's just say after a week of usage the inverter technology has lived up to the hype. So far everything we have thrown at it has come out good from sausage on a stick, chimichangas to egg rolls. One thing I would caution since it does have a stronger power output to keep an eye on your food when reheating it. I pretty much knew how much time certain items would take to reheat with our old unit but with this unit, same time duration almost ended up with burnt food. There is some learning curve to it but nothing too drastic. After a week I adjusted my time frame. The smart sensor seems to work fine for the most part but it takes longer to reheat your food. I just ended up manually inputting the time manually. I suggest keeping that manual since it offers a lot of options for heating different kind of food items. The only complaints I've had from the wife is that much louder compared to our old unit. Overall is a good microwave that we are very satisfied with our purchase. It has a smaller footprint but offers the same 1.2 cu ft of cooking space as our previous unit.

There isn't much you can say about a microwave other than it gets the job done and it gets the job done quickly. I have owned an older Panasonic microwave that would heat up my food in 3 minutes at a power level of 10 and now this microwave will heat up the same food in half the time. There are a lot of neat features included for presets of certain food types that all work as intended. The size isn't too big nor too small and its very easy to clean. The price is a little steep for a microwave but I'm very happy with how well my food is cooked or warmed up.

Pretty happy with this Panasonic microwave. Easy to use (of course, most microwaves are) with plenty of space. The design is pretty basic & straight forward (that's a good thing). Lets face it, it's a microwave. It needs to be functional, not be the center of attention :-) Surprisingly quiet for a microwave. At least it is compared to others I have had. Finding I need to adjust my cooking times a bit. The microwave this is replacing was not a top brand so it might not be right to compare them, but this Panasonic seems to heat faster and more evenly. I am assuming that is the sensor cooking function in action. Gone are the days of wrongly thinking something is done because it is hot on the outside yet still cold inside This heats very thoroughly. Another big plus (at least for me) is the weight. I was shocked to find it probably weighs close to half of what my old one did and that really wasn't that old and it was smaller. This was important for me as I had to lift it up to cabinet height to install it in the cut out space we have for it. So all in all, I think this is a great microwave that cooks fast, evenly, looks good, is easy to use and with the Panasonic name I suspect will last for years to come.

A powerful microwave in a small form

This Panasonic microwave replaces a much older GE microwave we’ve owned for years. As expected, the Panasonic heats up much hotter and quicker than our old one. Heating water (for tea) is much quicker than we’re used to, as is reheating food. The Panasonic is 1,200 watts compared to the 800 watts of our older GE, so this is no surprise. I used the Panasonic to defrost a well-frozen steak, about 1.5lb in weight, and allowed the Panasonic to calculate how long the Turbo Defrost cycle should run. It calculated to a bit over 6 minutes. I paused the defrost cycle a couple of times to flip the steak over, but other than that it was a hands-off process. The microwave’s instructions indicate that the defrost cycle should end with a slightly under-defrosted food, and that’s exactly what happened. Making popcorn in the Panasonic is super easy. Each time you press the popcorn button it displays a different popcorn bag-size, starting with the largest size to the smallest. All our popcorn bags are a bit over 1oz, so I chose the smallest setting, pressed Start, and waited for it to finish. With our old microwave, we were continuously burning popcorn even when manually entering how much time it should cook. Not so with the Panasonic. Every bag has been cooked perfectly. The internal cooking platter is noticeably larger than the one in our old unit, which is surprising since the physical size of the Panasonic is smaller than the GE. The Panasonic is also lighter overall, weight-wise. The only complaint we had with the unit had to do with its wall plug. If the plug had a bend in it, it would allow the plug to be flush to the wall. Since the plug doesn’t have a bend in it, it forces us to place the Panasonic an inch or two further from the back wall. From a counter-top space-utilization perspective, that’s wasted space. Knowing that some microwaves are loud when running, I thought I would meter this one. During its loudest, which was when I was defrosting the steak in Turbo Defrost mode, it got to 65 decibels. Normal conversation is 60 decibels while a vacuum is 70 decibels (70 decibels is twice as loud as 60 decibels). Comparing the Panasonic to the old GE, I’m confident that the Panasonic is the quieter of the two. We don’t typically use a microwave for cooking main dishes, but regularly use it to defrost, reheat, to cook popcorn, heat liquids, keep food warm, and use it as a cooking timer. This Panasonic does all these tasks just perfectly and has been a great replacement for us. Its power, capacity and versatility more than meet our needs. For me, this a keeper.

As a preface, I am a long-time fan of Panasonic microwaves. As such, I have expectations that a Panasonic is going to be a winner, so I look for “flaws.” With one exception, this model is perfect. Pluses: • 1200 Watts of power, enough to cook almost anything. • Large cooking capacity in a reduced countertop footprint. • Lots of cooking options. There is a bit of a learning curve, but the cooking results make it worthwhile. To assist, a nicely detailed manual is included. • The Sensor Cook feature is great! o My first use of the oven was to make an omelet, which I have never done in a microwave…never thought about. The manual provided a recipe (to which I added grated cheddar); and, using Sensor Cook, I ended up with a perfect tasty and fluffy omelet. No muss, no fuss. o For baked potatoes, I always use a regular oven, having had no luck with microwaving. Following Sensor Cook instructions, the potatoes were cooked thoroughly and in minutes. No more long cooking time in regular oven! o Lasagna…Wow! o Popcorn. Almost perfect timing for a bag of Orville R. • Quick 30, Turbo Defrost, Delayed Start, Frozen Foods cooking, etc. Minus: There’s only one, from my perspective…. No one touch cooking feature. Press a number for instant start of a cook time equal to the number pressed (i.e. Press 3, get 3 minutes). If I could take off half a star for that, I would. However, given the great features that are provided, I must round up. Panasonic has another winner!

After using it for a few days, I am satisfied with the results. In reality, it is your basic microwave with the same features as most others. You really can’t go wrong with any microwave these days. However, this one has the ‘inverter’ tech that runs at full power the whole time and evenly distributes the cooking. My old microwave had issues with heating the center of frozen pancakes but this one had no issue. I am speaking for myself, but my main use of a microwave is to cook bagged popcorn. There are different settings based on the size of the bag you plan to cook. Before this review, I popped 3 bags and had no issue. One negative is the end beep volume when cooking is complete. I found it to be low, so when I was in another room I didn’t distinctly hear it finish. Other than that, it is a decent unit.

Let me start off by saying it has been a few years since I owned a microwave because I was just tired having one and how the food turns out so I have been using a toaster oven the past few years instead. This microwave is actually pretty darn good. I like that it gives you a recipe on how to make an omelet and how to cook vegetables and other cool little dishes. I tried the the omelet recipe and it turned out pretty good for a microwaved omelet. I cooked broccoli and it turned out perfect. Not too soggy, but not undercooked either. We have popped popcorn and it pops every single kernel. In older microwaves that I have owned, there is always kernels left at the bottom of the bag, which is such a waste. This microwave pops them all and it doesn’t come out burnt. It actually comes out pretty perfect. It’s also very light weight and easy to clean. I love how it has specific instructions on how to defrost, sensor cook, reheat, etc. I keep the instructions right by the microwave so I always have the information I need right at my fingertips. I’m really impressed at how this microwave works that I would totally recommend it.

Let's face it: microwaves have been around long enough that reviews of them can be kind of boring. They all do basically the same things in basically the same ways, and truly new approaches to building them are few and far between. This particular one features a few unusual elements, but by and large doesn't go too crazy trying to buck the trend. All the basic features you get with the unit are well implemented and probably very familiar. You've got a variety of sensor cook options, a rotating platter, and presets for commonly heated items like meat, dairy, and fish. It's also got a milk button to be used for preparing hot drinks, which I have to say is nice to have but hardly warrants rushing out to immediately buy it. The key feature that's intended to help this stand out from the pack is Panasonic's Inverter technology - which basically means they use a variable output power supply to feed the cyclotron that converts electricity into microwaves rather than a fixed feed one. This means it can exercise a much finer degree of control over how it cooks your food, resulting in more even heating and better defrosting. Having spent about a week trying it out, my conclusion is that it's certainly a feature that's nice to have but hardly revolutionary. It is definitely better at defrosting things than my previous microwave, and doesn't singe the edges of thinner foods nearly as much. It also does a really good job heating microwave dinners - not only did they heat evenly, they heated up faster. The results were definitely a bit inconsistent though, as when I tried making bacon using the times that I'd always used for my previous (less powerful) microwave it came out distinctly undercooked and needed to go back in for a second round before it crisped up. So be warned that some experimentation may be necessary to work out the best way to use it.

This beautiful black 1200 watt microwave is nice. My last microwave had a combination of black and stainless and showed every fingerprint. I'm not going to miss those fingerprints! Also, this microwave is metallic gray inside. I've never seen that before, always having white. It took a minute to get used to that... There is a light, but it's still darker in there. But the look is cool. This microwave has an easy open door with just an easy press and it also closes easily - no slamming necessary. It has 11 power levels, with level 0 being a keep warm function, and it has a few preset quick prep buttons. It's easy to use with the included guide. One nice feature is the "add time" button which very simply allows you to add extra time within 1 minute after the timer stops. The settings stay the same and you can even open and close the door. Say you're reheating something. You have it at power 6 and the timer stops. You open the microwave door and is not quite hot enough... Stir, close the door press the "add time" button and the time your want to add and start. No need to reset your power level. It saves a step. I won't be using the "more" and "less" buttons and honestly, I can't figure out they work. I'm not concerned. The microwave works great without that. ;) It has the expected turntable which fills the microwave bottom. Overall, it's a basic microwave that doesn't show fingerprints and just works very well. I recommend this. Oh, and it’s well-made and lightweight!

If I'm being honest, microwaves are NOT a platform for significant innovation, I was skeptical at first of the extra cost involved in the sensor cooking technology. It was definitely worth the time involved to read the manual to understand how it worked and how to enter and interpret cooking times. If you've ever been frustrated by defrosting meat too long or an overcooked / burned bag of popcorn, this technology is for you. The easiest way I think to explain it is that it's a form of convection cooking. Well made, black outer material that is farily fingerprint resistant. For anyone in the market for a new Microwave, this is the first innovation I've seen in this market, pretty much ever, and it does make a difference in how it cooks.
