Classy Looking, Feature Laden Microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the design and look of this Panasonic microwave. I wasn't sure about the return of the dial on so many new microwaves but I am happy to say that it works well. For the kind of cooking we all do every day (1 or 2 minutes) the dial is just as quick or quicker than using a number pad. For longer cooking, it does become a bit cumbersome to set it to extended times over 5 or 6 minutes. Feature wise I find it to be very intuitive, even discovering some features accidentally and knowing right away how to use them. The staged cooking is excellent for frozen breakfast sandwiches - you set a low power level, use the dial to set for 90 seconds, then set the power level again to 10 and spin the dial one more time. Sandwich comes out perfect without having to stand around waiting to set the second stage. The sensor cook works well reheating pizza and lasagna. I especially like the ability to "tweak" the sensor cook for more or less 'done-ness' easily. My last microwave was a untrustworthy on the sensor cook, often overheating things and drying them out. This Panasonic doesn't seem to have this problem, and if it did, the adjustment would allow you to tweak it to avoid future problems. Overall I am really happy with this Panasonic and think it's a great value.

Different, in a good way!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got this microwave and I really like its differently styled control panel so far. Now this device does have a bit of a learning curve. I suspect I’ll keep my manual handy for a few more days lol. There is a multipurpose dial that replaces the more traditional number pad. You use this dial to set the time to cook, weight to defrost or set the clock. The first couple times I wasn’t sure if I liked this or not, but now that I’ve become a little more used to it, I’m liking it a lot. Now there are these magical one touch buttons. You can use these to cook or reheat leftovers. It’s a bit of a trip and again takes a little getting used to. I stuck a piece of chicken in there, hit Sensor Reheat and just walked away. Before I knew it, this magical box alerted me that my meal was ready. I went back to find my chicken perfectly heated and ready to eat. This feature looks for steam to signal its completion thus it does not work well with dry foods such as bread or pasta. The preset levels may be a bit hot or cool for you, but this too can be easily adjusted. I suspect as I use it more I will find foods that I just know what will work perfectly with 1 touch heating while learning to avoid doing that with other foods. I haven’t used the Sensor Cook feature yet as I don’t usually “cook” in the microwave. Though after having such a good experience with the Sensor Reheat function I kind of want to go buy a frozen dinner just to see how well it auto cooks it in this mode! The auto defrost feature is really nice as well. Just toss in some frozen meat or poultry, dial in the weight and your ready to start. Larger weight foods will beep half way thru to tell you to break up or turn over the food to ensure even defrosting. My girlfriend in particular loved this feature, commenting it was the best microwave she had ever used for defrosting. There are also features where you can tell it to cook, take a break for x minutes and then reheat it all at once, though we haven’t used that yet. The device seems built solidly and works overall about as well as I could hope for. It does a good job at heating quickly and pretty evenly too. I do wish the buttons were backlit as it can be a difficult to use in the dark till you learn were all the buttons are. All in all a very solid design and built well. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

Quality Microwave with a decent Size
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this was the first microwave I have owed in close to 6 years so I went a little higher end than I need as I assume I will likely have this for many years to come. Enter the Panosonic microwave. I was looking for a higher watt rating in order to more efficiently cook but also wanted a bit larger interior size than the cheap microwaves you can find everywhere. This Pansonic one fit the bill. It is not too large as I have limited counter space in my apartment and has a nice appearance with the stainless steel case. The microwave has several individual settings as well as a standard turning inner plate but what I like the most is that the interior chamber of the microwave is dark in color, hiding splatter and such better than the traditional white interior. My one concern is that the time is set by dial. It does not facilitate adjusting to longer cook times and is something that I think will wear out/break from basic use as you also push the button in to start; shortening the life of the microwave. We will see if my prediction comes true, if it does, I hope it is several years down the road.

Works Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is such an improvement from my old 700 watt microwave. It's so much more powerful and has a larger capacity. It cooks very well. Reheats leftovers evenly and well. Things take less time to cook and that is always a plus. The stainless steel and black design looks great and blends nice in my kitchen. I'm very happy with this mocrowave.

Too much automation - not enough fine tuning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just have to say that this microwave isn't for me. I like full control. I find the exact number for my popcorn to where I can get maximum poppage with minimal to no burn. This microwave just doesn't allow that (without workarounds). For me, a microwave is just a tool to quickly heat up pre-made meals, leftovers, popcorn, boil a cup of water, etc. Some try to overshoot their usefulness and add way too much automation and take the user away from having to figure out anything. The Panasonic is no exception. The Panasonic tries to take away the responsibility of know how to reheat by making sensor settings. The sensor, while good on paper, isn't very useful. It senses via steam, so whatever you're heating up has to be a very wet meal in order for it to be helpful. I tried going against what the manual says and tried heating up a small chicken sandwich (cheap $1 sandwich). Normally it's a 45s zap. After 1:15 I had to give up on the sensor for sandwiches. Next was a cup of water. Usually I do 1:45 for a good boil and about 1:10 for water hot enough when I'm lazy and want to do instant coffee. I put on sensor cook +2 and let it go. Once I got to the 1:10 mark I stopped the cooking ( thought it would have stopped on its own since it should have been pretty dang hot) and checked the water by dipping my finger in it. It was just "really warm." - yeah, too lazy to use a thermometer too. Well dang. So I grab a new cup (wanted to start cold) and did the test buy manually input 1:10. Water was hot, just as I expected it to be. So after two tests, forget using sensor cooking. Now who wouldn't do a test with popcorn in a microwave? I don't use bags, I have a carafe for popping corn and know my time is 1:52 on my old mw (yes, I got it that exact). I wanted to test with the popping sensor...no go. To be fair the instructions are for bags. I redid the test with my setting...but wait you can't change the time in single seconds. Up to one minute you can adjust by 5s units. Once you hit one min then it's 10s units....WHAT????? I prefer pastries at bread and pastries at about 8s, can't set it pour milk if you want 8s. 10s is just too hot and I'm using the mw because I don't want to wait for a toaster or toaster oven. Those 2s change some custards and fillings to liquid lava. So playing around I found a workaround to get my 1:52s. Set it for 25s, let it count down to 22s, open the door, put in the popcorn, hit quick 30s button 3 times and there goes 1:52! And it's perfect for this microwave too, but dang what a work around. And no, I will not go down to 1:50 and lose 8 to 10 extra popped kernels! The dial is a bit of a chore too. Turn, turn, turn, turn... used to be beep, beep, beep , start to get it going. Some might prefer dials, but I'm kinda tired of them. If you grew up when I did then you know about having your dad calling you to change the channel on the TV and he's wants a UHF channel! It's not a bad microwave if you don't feel like doing any thinking and don't mind some overcooked foods. But I'm particular about my cooking and this microwave just takes some of that control away from me. So I'm basing the review on how I expect to use a microwave and this unit just doesn't fit my style. I'm pretty sure for others it'll be the best thing since remote controls and cable tv (no more coat hanger and aluminum antennae!), but I just like to take control myself. I don't need it to "think" for me. I just need power control and timers with a touchpad. If you'd rather just push one button and walk away, go for it.
