Wow, this 4k player is awesome! Standard DVD's are upscaled, Blu Ray are also upscaled and 4k movies are like your right there on set in real life! Excellent price plus I had a coupon, this player can do it all, no need to spend way more than you need to, this is it for me. Pictures included in review. (Some say the remote is way to small, it's the exact same size as my new 4k tv. I have zero issues with the remote size)

Great quality picture. Very simplistic! Its a bare necessities player. No smart features. But i have a smart tv and roku anyhow, so another streaming device is unnecessary.

I thought I wanted a simple Blu ray player. And this indeed delivered. Delivered great 4k quality. The menu is lightweight with no bloatware. Panasonic commits to bringing updates to it over time. Not flashy in anyway. Unfortunately, it was so simple it didn't fit my use case here at home. I wasn't able to use it to access my digital copies of my Blu ray collection. So I am upgrading to the magnolia version of this one.

It’s an alright player.. but there has been some problems like the disc tray refusing to open while using the remote. Or some 4k movies straight up don’t work and not supported. This can be a great player but infuriating at some points.

We appreciate your 4-star rating! Your input helps us improve and continue delivering quality products. Please disconnect the AC adaptor, wait 1 minute, and then reconnect the AC adaptor and try using the remote control again to open the disc tray. If this still does not work, while the unit is on press and hold the disc tray button on the main unit and the 0 on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. The POWER LED starts to flash, and 00 RET is displayed on the screen. Press the right arrow repeatedly on the remote control until 06 FTO is displayed on the screen and press OK. Hope this helps! -C Panasonic

The DVD Player isn't too bad but is shoddly made. The controls for the DVD Slot takes several times to open and close, I had a large fan about 4 feet to the right of the Player and when I would turn the DVD Player on the fan would start working as well. I would have to manually to off the fan. I have since moved the fan. It still works but not as well as I hoped.

This is an excellent budget 4K UHD player. It is really easy to set up, and easy to use. I was looking for a budget 4K UHD player that could also upscale normal blu-rays to 4K. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Atmos, so your media can look and sound great. I’ve played a handful of 4K and Blu-rays through this, from multiple distributors, and they blu-rays have all looked at least better than on a normal blu-ray player. If you’re into boutique blu-ray distributors such as Criterion, Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome, they will look incredible with the upscaling giving the movies sharper visuals, and the already high resolution of these releases looking great anyway. One thing to note is that this does NOT have any form of internet connectivity, so if you’re looking for one that can also play Netflix or Hulu, this is not the one for you.

A very nice player! It works great and is easy to set up. I really love it. It is really clear, as a 4k player should be. It really clears up regular dvds. The up scale works really well! It was reasonably priced. I am very happy that I chose this particular machine.

Excellent 4K ultra HD player for a great price. Easy set up. Small remote, but not hard to use at all. Since I already have streaming (Netflix etc) through other devices, I didn’t need a blue ray player with all the bells and whistles. It’s compact size fits perfectly underneath my cable box.

This is a great entry level 4K Blu-Ray player for the price. I missed it at $99, but even at $149, I am pleasantly surprised. I was on the fence between this one and the more feature rich UB-420 version. I actually wanted a device that does not have built in Wi-Fi since I already have a PS4. If you need to update firmware, that can still be done via the provided website in the manual and a USB stick. The picture is noticeably better than the Xbox One S that I used to use to play my movies. My only criticism is the pause feature. When you unpause a movie that has been paused for awhile, it will stutter briefly to catch back up. This is a minor inconvenience and does not affect the enjoyment of the movie. I would highly recommend this model to anyone looking for a "dumb" 4K Blu-Ray player.

This 4K Blu-Ray was the least expensive one I could find that was not a refurb. The sound and picture are tremendous improvements over standard Blu-Ray. The depth and detail is mind blowing. Better than at a movie theater. If your system isn't up to the task, you will miss out on these worthy graphics and sound. The issues (problems/downfalls) of a standard Blu-Ray are still present, Slow loading. There are some quirks that drive me a little crazy. Would these quirks be eliminated by a more expensive player? I do not know. The biggest issue is a poor remote with buttons that are not responsive. Another issue is how the player reacts when you turn off the player in the middle of a movie. Sometimes no problem, other times you must start the movie from the beginning. Overall, this is well worth the $100 I paid. 4K is awesome. Unless you are going to purchase a ton of 4k disks, you should be happy with this compared to the base model for other brands. Also this has no Wi-Fi and updating the player has proved annoying with no success in the 4 times I have tried. Do I need the updates? Good question. Player has worked well without any updates so I think I'm good.

If you are looking at a Ultra HD disc player, you likely already are using it in conjunction with a 4K TV. Nearly every 4K TV is smart, so why buy a second smart device that duplicates what is built into your TV, unless you hate the interface. For those of us, that realize this, this may be your ticket to joining the 4K disc crowd, because streaming services have just gone wack and out of hand. Plus most 4K disc content come with a digital download of the media. That can be loaded onto a USB stick and stuck in the front of the player if the disc is not around. However, HDR is where this player falls flat. It does not support as many formats as the bigger brother DB-420. The DB-420 also gets you smart capability. The picture quality, as is with any 4K disc content, is extremely good, despite not having as much HDR stuff. But unless your TV does a good job at rendering HDR, and the price point of this player, you can not really go wrong. The remote is cheap and small. All electronics have become this way. One of the few things that was good about late 1990s electronics was the remote. Panasonic has been the leader in blu ray players since they came on the market around 2007. They are a step above in quality from Sony, LG, and Samsung. The only Panasonic disc player that has died for me was a vintage 2002 progressive scan DVD player, back when that was a step up from a regular DVD player, then a year later everything on the mainstream market was progressive scan. I have had five Panasonic video disc players (1 progressive scan, 1 - 5 DVD progressive scan changer, 2 blu ray players and finally a 4k Ultra player. I bought this one for my friend's 65" 4K TV knowing he would need a disc player, but since it is a vacation rental, and the TV is smart, he just needed a dumb cheap player.

Not A Bad Budget 4K Player

I'll start by emphasizing that if you can get this player for around $99, then it's definitely worth it! I grabbed it around Black Friday for that price as part of a sale. There aren't that many budget friendly 4K players on the market right now, so your options are very limited. I would recommend getting a Sony 4K player instead (mainly because of Dolby Vision, but I've heard bad things about them (both budget friendly models and the more pricier ones). Apparently, the Sony players have issues freezing up if you're viewing 50 gig discs (discs with more data). So far, I haven't had any of those issues with the Panasonic DB-150. However, I have had instances of movies/shows freezing up for a few seconds after pausing, then unpausing the disc for any length of time. And I should note that I returned the first Panasonic UB-150 player after a few months because I ran into a freezing issue in the main menu while watching Dexter. So I returned it for a replacement. So far, haven't had any issues with the replacement, but movies will still momentarily freeze after unpausing whatever I am watching. Not that big of a deal tbh. As far as all around quality goes, both video and audio are good with this player. Unfortunately, there is no Dolby Vision with this model. So even if you have a newer t.v. that supports Dolby Vision, or a Dolby Vision supported disc, you'll only be able to view the 4K in HDR10 (the standard for 4K). If you're able to, I would recommend getting the Panasonic UB-820. It had Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Ntm the build quality is better. But at $500, it's not really affordable atm. And it rarely ever goes on sale. But anyway, hope this review helps some of you that are interested!

I bought this with the thought that I am betting on the future. Right now I have an older Panasonic plasma TV with its highest resolution at 1080I. This definitely seems to give a better picture than my older Sony Blu-Ray, but that could just be in my head. I don't like 3 things on this. 1. All controls on the unit itself are the same color as the body, so it's very hard to discern what is what. 2. It constantly comes up with the screen "Language Selection" at the start. You'd think you'd be able to chose it once and it would remember always. 3. The buttons on the remote are TINY, very hard to see, and not where you'd expect them. Not very intuitive. So far, so good though.

This 4k DVD player is great! Especially now that it went on sale I pd 179.99 now it is only 99.99 sweet deal for black Friday early buy!! I HIGHLY recommend buying for it works great easy to install and has great quality. It is not big and bulky like some are. It is easy & small enough to put in a cubby with plenty room for other things beside it.

I love that it's a no frills 4K player at a truly great pice. Now for the two cons that I didn't see or think about during my research. I don't love the remote because some of the buttons are a little small (or weirdly placed). This player does NOT have wifi, so if you ever wanted to do the software updates, you either have to connect this player to the internet via a cable, or you can download the software onto a USB. So that's an unfortunate extra step when we're so used to everything connected to the internet and updating automatically.
