||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I LOVE my 3D TV. My player stopped working, so I ordered a new one. It worked at first, watched a buttload of my 3d movies. Now all discs say incompatible, so did a firmware update. Nada. Haven't even had it a month.

Great but could use some tweaks.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned quite a few dvd players and standard blu-ray players from Panasonic and I have been pretty satisfied with them all. This is the first 4K Blu-ray player that I have owned by them and I absolutely love it. To start, the deisign is simple and sleek which is nice because it blends well with my other home theater components. The remote is simple to use and not huge like some of the other Panasonic remotes I have used with past DVD and Blu-ray players. Setup was a breeze and very straightforward. I had it up and running to my liking within 30 minutes, which for me is quick as I am very picky about detail with audio and video. The picture this displays in Standard Dynamic Range is great. The High Dynamic Range it plays is excellent. Very detailed and sharp. I have no complaints with the picture quality for those, however, I was not impressed with the upconversion capabilities of this player. Standard DVDs looked extremely grainy and washed out and standard blu-rays, while a better resolution, also looked very grainy and somewhat washed out. I have experienced much better upconversion capabilities and features from other players. The audio is phenomenal. High resolution on this thing really does make a huge difference. It has definitely made my speakers sound quite good when compared to my old player. Atmos is my favorite format and it performs extremely well with it. I do wish it had a nice set of analog stereo audio outputs, but at the price point, it's not expected. All in all, I really enjoy having this player in my home theater setup and look forward to watching many more movies on it.

No Nonsense 4K Ultra Player with Atmos Passthrough
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Panasonic 4K HDR DP-UB154P-K Blu-Ray player is a non-streaming simplistic player that provides a superior video cinematic experience with 4K Ultra Blu-Ray’s vs. a standard Blu-Ray player. I primarily needed to upgrade my older Blu-Ray player to access Dolby Atmos surround sound support, along with watching the newer 4K Ultra Blu-Ray movies. Now the Panasonic online information does not state it supports Dolby Atmos, meaning it does not decode it. But it does “pass through” Atmos metadata content to my AV 7.1.2 Atmos capable audio system after I tweaked some of the default audio setting options (Bitstream, not PCM). Once setup for Atmos pass-through, I am more than just satisfied with this unit, I am a supporter of this 4K Ultra HD technology. Watching the 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Japanese Cyberpunk inspired movie Alita Battle Angle, although an inherently visually dark movie, I couldn’t help at times paying more attention to the video detail color depth and contrast versus just watching the movie. The HDR10 support, along with Panasonic’s “high-precision chroma processing” no doubt played into the delivery of the highest quality video from a disc I have seen on our XBR 4K flat-screen. Watching standard Blu-Ray discs appeared up-scaled and enhanced too, so that’s a plus for my older Blu-Ray collection. Although not a 4K Ultra disc, my 2015 Blu-Ray “San Andreas” looked the best I have seen from a visually bright movie. But again, the primary move to this technology was to access the Atmos surround sound support that made listening/re-watching this movie a new fully immersive experience. Note that watching older DVD’s up-scaled did show only minor improvements due to what I assume are the limitations of the original DVD limited image quality format. Yeah, DVDs do look better, but they also looked just as good on my older Blu-Ray player that provided up-scaling. So I would consider that a wash, unless you are upgrading from a much older DVD player without up-scaling capabilities. The back of the player has a single HDMI output for connection to your HDTV or directly to your AV system. There is also an Ethernet connection only used for firmware upgrades. Note that the front of the player has a USB port that can also be used for firmware upgrades per the instruction manual. My only negative encountered with this system is with the remote controller. It is way too small with all of the required buttons crammed onto its miniature frame. Whenever I wanted to pause, or use any other feature control, I had to turn on more lighting to see which of the tiny buttons with their related descriptions/icons to press. Now if you are a “insert disc, hit play, and watch until the end” type of viewer, then this remote should not pose a problem. One final caveat, if you require a player that includes free and/or paid streaming options, or additional features, then you will need to look elsewhere. But if you have your streaming bases covered with other devices, then the Panasonic DP-UB154P-K may just be a cost effective 4K Ultra player option worth your serious consideration.

A simple Ultra 4K Blu-Ray Player that does the job
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of those products that does exactly what it’s intended to do and doesn’t try to throw in the kitchen sink. If you’re looking for a no-frills Ultra 4K Blu-ray player and don’t need any streaming capabilities like Netflix, YouTube, etc… then this may be for you. The image quality is fantastic. The remote is on the smaller size but not too small so it shouldn’t be hard to lose. The buttons are intuitive and the on-screen controls and setup are simple and easy to get around. For input/output it has an ethernet port and an HDMI out on the back and a USB-A on the front (for other media like photos and music). One thing to note though is that it does not appear that the HDMI port is has ARC capability (meaning that it can communicate with your TV for adjusting volume and other synchronized functions like turning the player off which would also turn the TV off). Another thing to note is that it does not come with an HDMI cable. My only real complaint would be that there is a slight hum from the player while it’s playing a disc. Almost all the time you won’t be able to hear it over the sound that’s coming out of whatever you’re playing but if it’s completely quiet in the room, you may hear that hum.

Covers all my basic needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great straightforward 4K UHD player. Lighter on the output options and features, but it works for the form factor. Speaking of the form factor, it is very small. Fits perfectly in my entertainment cabinet right on top of my other components. Easy to connect and up and running in no time period on the rear. There are only 3 inputs. Power, ethernet, at HDMI.All sound and digital output will travel through the HDMI as there are no extra external outlets for sound. Being a digital picture, the picture is as clear as can be.No hang ups there. It Is supports hdr10+ but not Dolby vision. That's an od omission when all of the Dolby sound options are there. It does have 24p playback should your TV support it. The other optional picture/sound options covers just about all my bases. Several Dolby choices. Up Inside of the box, you get the player the power adapter the remote and batteries, that's it. Being there are only two outputs, a cheaper set of ethernet and hdmi cables should be included. A good simple uhd player that will fit in to your set up without Compromising too much space. Lacking dolby vision and including cables, I'd still recommend .

Easy set up, nice picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was extremely easy to set up, everything synced quickly. I played a DVD, 4K blu ray & regular blu ray. The blu ray looked awesome, very clear picture, even the DVD looked good. I used Bohemian Rhapsody 4K blu ray & I’m not sure if it was the filming technique they used but I really wasn’t all that impressed with the quality of the picture. I’ll have to try another & see how it is. As always, animated movies look incredible. You can play videos, music or view photos. This is a very small, lightweight player & the remote is a decent size but I have small hands, if your hands are large you might find the buttons too small or close together. It is a great player with good quality pictures & I definitely recommend it but feel that the 4K could’ve been better & the graphics & start up voice seem a bit dated for the high price. Also it seems a bit basic because doesn’t have a lot of features. The buttons on the top of the unit are just open/close & power. 1 5v port on the front , 1 HDMI & 1 LAN port on the back.

Compact, capable 4K Blu-Ray player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first noticeable thing about this player is how small it is. Unpacking it takes seconds and it really is just the player, remote, batteries and an external power supply. It replaced a much older bedroom-installed Sony player that could not do 4K and the difference in footprint was quite noticeable. The older player had power on board which may have contributed whereas this player has a separate power brick to plug in. The only other connections on the Panasonic player are USB, Ethernet and HDMI-out. It does not offer a second HDMI-out and there is no wireless network adaptor either, so if you want to use BD-Live features or stay up to date on firmware, you will need to plug this unit into an Ethernet port. I could see this being difficult for some home users. Having said that, when I fired it up and plugged it into Ethernet, it already had the most recent firmware installed. Once the player starts up, it goes to a basic screen that offers Video, Music or Photos options and then lets you pick from playing via USB or disc. You can also get to the settings from the menu on the left of the screen, where you can test network connectivity or change audio and display settings. I found I was able to force the player to check for 4K at 60Hz. output and it seemed to work with just the basic HDMI cable I had it connected to the TV with. I did not test with a disc I know plays back at 60Hz. though. Audio options on the player are good, with most known formats available. My TV can process Dolby Atmos and when I tested with “Mad Max Fury Road”, it was routing the audio correctly to the TV speakers. Although not as good as my dedicated home theater, for a bedroom TV playback, it looked and sounded good. I am surprised that the player does not include Dolby Vision as a video output. Likely this is down to licensing costs, and it is a love-it-or-hate-it format (some say it is too dark) but I prefer to have it as a choice. The player does however cater to HDR, HDR10, HDR10+ & HLG formats so is still very capable of the latest video formats on UHD discs. The player does not have any apps like Netflix, Prime, AppleTV+ etc. so owners will still need some other method to access streaming apps. I do not miss these on a disc player, preferring a dedicated player but so long as the owner has a TV with apps or a streaming box like Roku, they should not miss these. Playback of discs, both UHD and standard definition is very good and discs startup fast. The video and audio output on my LG C2 TV was excellent and the player is very quiet, with no noticeable disc “whir” sounds. In summary, this is a good UHD disc player that performs its disc playback task well. While it misses a couple of features other players may have, they are not deal breakers and the player is a good upgrade for anyone wanting to play back 4K UHD discs.

Movies are strikingly stunning w/this 4K Player.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Panasonic 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player (Blu-ray Player) allows me to enjoy my blu-ray 4K disc as they were intended to be viewed. This is my the first standalone 4K Blu-ray player. In the past I’ve used my game console to play my movies via discs, so I wasn’t sure if I actually “needed” this player and I admit I was a little skeptical. However, once I connected it to my 4K TV and played my first 4K movie, I was simply amazed at how vibrant and beautiful the colors looked, how clear the picture and sound was, and how a few of my old blu-ray movies on disc, looked newer in this Blu-ray player. This Blu-ray player works great right out of the box. Movies are strikingly stunning from the first glance and beyond. This Panasonic 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is not a device that has a lot of complicated buttons or even a lot of buttons in general. It looks simple, compact, yet sleek in design. It’s small, lightweight, and has a black matte finish color. Not only does it look simple in design, but it is simple to use as well. There aren’t a lot of buttons on the remote either, just the ones you use most often. The player works right out of the box. The popup menus are easy to navigate and the menus easy to understand and use. This Blu-ray player is capable of playing various discs such as 4K HDR, UltraHD Blu-ray, HDR 10+, and DVD Video. You can enjoy great sound in Dolby Audio, DTS HD and play your audio CD’s as well, all via an appropriate and compatible HDMI cable. I'm really glad it's backward compatible as it allows me to play my entire collection of discs. The Blu-ray player’s remote is nice and small, sleek, light in weight, and ergonomic so it feels great when holding in hand. The remote does come with batteries to get you started enjoying your player right away. I’ve owned this Panasonic Blu-ray player for just about three days now and each time I’ve watched a movie, my mouth is left opened in amazement. I can’t stress enough how beautiful the picture is. I’ve been primarily streaming the majority of my media content and had moved away from using physical disc, I know see how that was a mistake as even with super high-speed internet I still wasn’t getting the best picture quality with the highest possible level of detail. This Panasonic 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player may be little pricey compared to others, but I really like this player and once you bring it home and use it, you may agree that it’s worth the cost. The only reason why I didn’t rank it higher than 4 stars is because of the price, but I can honestly recommend this Blu-ray player without reservation.

You Can’t Go Wrong
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Panasonic 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player DP-UB154P-K is my second 4K DVD player. My prior one is a few years old so I was excited to see how it measures up. In the box is just the player, a remote, and a manual. I placed the player in my master bedroom. Setup was a breeze as the on screen display takes your through each step. Simply select your language and perform the video connection test. Then accept the terms of use and you’re quickly up and running. There was a prompt to check for a firmware update which brought to light my first disappointment since there is no wifi on this unit. I have no ethernet in my master bedroom so I could not update without moving the player. I am a bit baffled by the lack of wifi but when considering that the DP-UB154P-K offers no streaming functionality I guess it makes more sense. Some may find the lack of streaming to be an issue since no YouTube, Netflix, etc. is available but I don’t really mind since I have dedicated streaming devices which no doubt would outperform any integrated solution. I was ready to check out the player. I started with the menu. Things are pretty basic here but along with settings there are options to play video, photo, and music files via the usb port or from disc. The player supports all the following UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, MKV, JPEG, FLAC, WAV, ALAC, DSD, AAC, MP3, AIFF, AVCHD. The DP-UB154P-K supports these 4K/HDR formats HDR10+, HDR10, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG). Excellent! I have a Dolby Atmos sound bar so I was also very pleased that Dolby Atmos is supported. I have the DP-UB154P-K connected to my LG OLED tv so I was expecting some stunning video and audio. I was not disappointed. Simply amazing. I was definitely impressed by the performance of the Panasonic DP-UB154P-K in terms of responsiveness. Certainly much better than my old player. The remote is fairly small and is overall quite nice in terms of functionality. Ultimately you can spend a lot more on a 4K ultra HD blu-ray player but if you don’t mind the absence of streaming or wifi you can’t go wrong with this player. I certainly like it. Recommended.

Amazing for owners of huge DVD collections!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start off this review, I have to be honest that this is for a niche sort of buyer. This Panasonic Blu-Ray player is for the dedicated movie lover who has upgraded to a 4K TV and wants to enjoy their huge collection of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs that they are unwilling to let go of. It is additionally for those who already have streaming available via their smart TV, Apple TV, Fire Stick, or other similar device since this Blu-Ray player is not a Smart Device capable of streaming services on its own. With that said, here has been my experience so far. First of all, set up is as intuitive and as easy as can be expected with a simple HDMI and power plug connected device. Pass-through audio to my sound bar works very well and this player appears to support HDMI pass through for audio control and power controls as well to my TV remote without any fuss. Now the part you are waiting for: how do my old DVDs and Blu-Ray movies look upscaled to 4K digital resolution? Well, they look absolutely amazing! Rewatching my old Blu-Ray copies of Gladiator, Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans, etc. has left me astounded. I compared the image from the Blu-Ray upscaled version to streaming in 4K directly from Amazon Prime on a couple of the movies and I found, to my layperson eyes, that the image appeared to have the same fidelity on my 65” 4K OLED TV! This is exactly what I was hoping for when it comes to enjoying my old movie collection. I am very glad to have this as it now means that when I get a hankering to watch one of my old, classic favorites, I need not rent it on Amazon Prime or search endlessly through a half-dozen other streaming services to find it. I can just pop in one of my old movies and enjoy the high-resolution, high-quality image experience! Thanks for reading and I hope this helps to increase your confidence in making this purchase!

Great player only missing Dolby HDR
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My previous device to watch Blu-ray movies was a gaming console from the previous generation . It worked ok but it was because I happened to have one. This device is a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player and it's amazing .it does HDR but only HDR 10 and HDR 10+ no Dolby HDR. I wish it had Dolby but it's not a deal breaker for me. This does support Dolby audio which is great if you have the sound system for it. I have a lot of old DVD's and a good amount of regular Blu-ray discs and this unscale these to 4K and does a great job at doing it . I actually find this device does a slightly better job than the gaming console I have previously used for watching movies on. As far as watching 4K Blu-ray discs I find this player does a great job doing it and I can't complain about the picture quality. I've tried a few different movies from the Mission Impossible movies , Top Gun Maverick, Alita Battle Angel, and the newer Planet of the apes movie. This player showed it didn't have any issues playing these movies on the player at all. If you don't want to spend a ton of money on a player that has all the bell and whistles and no interest in a console this player will do great .

Very basic player with good picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is nice 4K player. The picture is good and it was very easy to set up. The player walks you through the initial set up. This is a very basic player as it does not come with a cable or Wi-Fi. The cable was not an issue as I have several high-speed cables but not having Wi-Fi was a surprise as I am sure most people do not have ethernet in rooms where they might use this player. I luckily use power line devices for these cases. Performance wise the disc drawer is a little noisy but works fine. The player decodes various audio codecs for surround sound and DTS-MA stereo. There are a number of sub menu options but the manual is very weak at explaining any of these options. Particularly the zoom function. Actually, the manual is almost useless. I connected this to a Calman calibrated 4K HDR monitor and the picture was very good. I do wish the player had Dolby Vision as all of my 4K movies are in Dolby Vision. All in all the player does its intended job but I would probably recommend stepping up a model or two in Panasonics line to get some more features and performance.

Compact design. Plays from USB as well.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Bluray player was easy to install and offered the ability to playback some video formats that I had not been able to replay from my PC bluray burner. This was a surprise. The unit is fairly compact in terms of stand alone players (my previous one had a much wider and longer footprint). The player handled the standard purchased bluray movies with ease and there is not much more I could have asked from it. This was easily detected by my Hisense tv as well. Remote control was easy to use (something that is not always the case). I did find that the response at least to opening media slider to be a bit slow on eject and closure using the remote button. Does have ethernet port in back which I used to double check firmware update. Additional features: usb input - could play video, photo, and music from front usb and automatically detected device once inserted - also tested decade old pc burned DVD's and they played without issue. Additional (tested) file formats supported over older units: ts and mts (from Movai edits) and mp4

Great player!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are very pleased with this Blu-Ray player, which also plays CDs and DVDs. We installed it correctly, so when we put in a DVD, the TV immediately jumps to the right playback setting. Setup is very simple and straightforward. Latest generation player that does its job well; reads video files in hd or 4K. This player does a great job of relaying the picture to its fullest quality with Dolby vision. Stunning image quality. I have a Sony full array tv and the sound quality and picture quality is amazing. Dolby vision image is extremely pleasing on the huge 75 inch tv. The menu images are clear and crisp and easy to navigate. Remote is relatively less in quality and could have been a bit sturdier. I like the option of having a repeats function. I have used it a few times now and I am loving the quality. This Blu Ray player has exceeded all my expectations. It is rightly priced and it delivers great given the price point. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Amazing product from Panasonic.

Excellent Sound and Upscaling - Wonderful Player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, let me admit that the Blu-Ray player I replaced was well over 10 years old. I really should have replaced it sooner, because this new Panasonic player made the experience of every movie I watched over the last few days unbelievably better than my old player. I’ll start with the setup, as there are a few important notes. The player itself has a small footprint, does not have a front display, and has a front USB input, a rear HDMI out port, and a LAN port. There is a power button and a tray eject button on the top of the player, and the unit does not support wireless networking, nor does it have any smart features. The remote easily fits the hand, has all the usual buttons, but does not light up in the dark. The player was very easy to set up with my 4K ready TV, but I just needed to make sure that the HDMI in port I used on the TV accepted a 4K signal. Note that many TVs only have select ports that will accept a 4K signal, and it is indicated in the reference manual for the TV. For example, one of my TVs has only two of the four HDMI ports that support 4K, while my other TV has all three ports supporting 4K. I use an optical cable between my TV and my surround sound system—which was unchanged from my last Blu-Ray player. Overall, I was up and ready to go in about 15 minutes, after an initial start-up screen that was easy to follow and complete. I decided to test the video quality (including 4K upscaling) and audio quality of this player with four titles to begin with. The first two were Blu-Ray releases about 10 years old—"The Hobbit” and “Star Trek Into Darkness;” the third was the remastered “James Bond Moonraker” on Blu-Ray, and the fourth was the epic mini-series “Pacific” on DVD. The first in the player was “The Hobbit,” and I appreciated the fact that the player indicated the playback was in 4K. (The player does not indicate when the playback is not in 4K per se—but if there is no 4K indicator upon the start of playback, then it is not upscaling. There were some previews and splash screens on all the titles I played were I noticed the playback switched from 4K to non-4K, but the indicator always popped up on the screen when there was a change). I was absolutely stunned by the picture—color and crispness—as well as the fullness of the sound coming through all my speakers. This movie never sounded or looked so good in my home theater. But I was not convinced yet, as a lot of the scenes in “The Hobbit” that are most impressive are computer generated images. “Star Trek Into Darkness” continued to impress with incredible contrast and sound. This is where I started to notice the richness of the sound and the deeper, crisper bass. “James Bond Moonraker” was simply unbelievable—I was speechless through most of the opening scene of the movie—it looked so much better than on my old player. But where I was most impressed was with “Pacific.” I had just finished watching this series on DVD with my teenage son and so I invited him to re-watch the first episode on this new player. He could not stop commenting on how much fuller the sound was—with deep bass and great surround—and also how much better the picture was than on the old player. Both of us are rather picky about the quality of a picture and sound, and we were both super impressed. I was able to jump, fast forward, and rewind through the movies easily with the remote, and the picture updates on the TV as this is done, which is helpful if you are looking for a specific scene. Since the unit is not wireless, firmware needs to be updated by ethernet—not a horrible inconvenience, but other players offer wireless (at an additional cost). I also miss the backlit remote, but there are usually only a few buttons I use on the remote anyway, and once I know where they are, it’s OK. I use all the smart features through my TV, so I really don’t need the duplicate of the smart features on the Blu-Ray player. I do miss not having a front display to show how far I am into a movie, but I can use a button on the remote to show that, which I will get used to. Overall, I was really impressed with this Blu-Ray player. It delivers where it counts (in sound and picture). While there are some minor features missing, I really didn't mind them being missing after just a few days with the player.
