Great image stabilization - this was my biggest surprise. Other features that caught my attention: shoot fast action with ease, easy-to-use Wi-Fi connectivity, amazing light capture and 4K video and photo functions - isolates video frames at 30 frames per second as high resolution photos. It gave me excellent results and it’s friendly to use. It definitely exceed my expectations because it is an excellent walkabout camera and lightweight.

More fun than a DSLR!

I really like the size and weight of this camera. It encourages me to just go out and shoot, which I don't look forward to with a DSLR. It's very discrete, especially using the tilting screen as a waist level viewfinder, so you can get some great candid shots of people, where as people often avoid you or pose if you've got a big DSLR up to your face.
The image quality is very good although not quite up to the standard of a good APS-C or full frame camera, but the differences are not likely to be noticeable unless you are making gallery sized prints or using very high ISO.
Initially I thought the 4K photo modes sounded silly, but they do turn out to be useful in some situations. You only end up with an 8MP image which can be limiting if you need to do some post capture cropping or make very large prints. The GX85 is not the best for capturing sports or other fast motion subjects because the auto focus can't always track a moving subject , but the 4K photo capture mode allows you to get some cool still images at just the right moment of action, assuming the auto focus worked well enough to get a sharp image.
Again, my favorite thing about this camera is the size, but there is a downside to the compact dimensions - there's not a lot of room for your thumb. I found myself occasionally inadvertently hitting the buttons near the thumb grip. There is an after-market thumb grip that might help that situation, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping that I get used to it and learn to keep my thumb in the right spot. The kit lens is decent and very light and compact. If you like to reach out with a telephoto, you'll need to get another lens as the max reach on the kit lens is 32mm (equivalent to 64mm on a full frame).
I don't do much video so I won't comment on that aspect.
Overall it's a really fun camera at a reasonable price.

Extremely impressed with this camera. For the amount of money you spend on this you wouldn't think it would deliver such amazing results. I've had to rely on this camera on more then one occasion when my main camera died, and every time it impressed me more and more with how well it handles shooting. My favorite thing about it is how portable it is, you can literally carry it anywhere and you wouldn't even realize. The touch screen works extremely well and is very responsive. Highly recommend.

I participated in an Advocate Program on behalf of Panasonic USA. I received product samples as part of my participation. All opinions are my own. After using the camera for a little over a month I have to say it gets the job done. For such a small compact camera, it provides pretty good image quality. I found my self using this camera when I didn't feel like carrying heavy gear or was just panning to go out. I was able to fit it in a small bag or coat pocket and use it whenever. The size and weight definitely made it convenient.

Be aware of the shutter issue that won't go away

The camera was purchased as an open box in June 2016. Right after the box was opened, camera was malfunctioning. Every shutter press took multiple pictures. At first it seemed to be the camera settings, but even changed to single-shot mode, it behaved the same. Took the camera to BestBuy store and various support people looked at it, but nobody could figure out what went wrong. Finally contacted Panasonic and sent in the camera for repair. A month later the camera came back, but it only lasted a few months before the same problem surfaced again. Had to send the camera back again for service.
Very disappointed about the quality of this model DMC-GX85 and the service of Panasonic support!
