On a recent trip through southern Utah, I took several hundred pictures. I was shooting raw+jpg and found that the in-camera jpg processing leaves a lot to be desired. The jpgs were pretty flat and a bit murky. However, a little tweaking on the raw photos really demonstrated the outstanding performance that this camera is capable of. The panorama mode is seamless. Focus is spot on. Response is quick. Low light performance is good. This is not a camera for the casual shooter as the number of features is daunting, but a little study of the manual and some field practice will really pay off.

I purchased the Lumix as a backup to my Nikon Z fc for our Great American Road Trip across country to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. I bought this as an open box item (I had to ask the salesperson to call his manager, as he would not take the camera out of the open box display or sell it to me). The manager took out the camera, even though there was nothing but the camera (including no battery or charger), I knew the quality of this point-and-shoot camera and ended up with around a 45% discount off the retail price. I have since bought a battery and charger, have learned a lot about the exposure functions and truly love the images of the Leica-licensed lens. The one inch sensor makes this camera...there are many other features about this camera to like, but, as in most cases, the lens and the sensor makes the camera. If you want a high-end point-and-shoot with a versatile zoom range, this camera is for you.

Overall this is a very impressive camera. It has a nice 10x zoom, and a relatively fast lens at the wide end. There is complete manual control, and more features that even an enthusiast is likely to use. The image quality ranges from acceptable at the telephoto end wide open, to very good at the mid to shorter focal lengths with the lens stopped down a little bit. But the convenience of having a decent length of zoom lens makes it worth the slight trade off in image quality at the longer focal lengths, especially considering the small size of the camera.
But what I am really impressed with is the 4K video quality, both at 24 and 30 frames per second. There are also a number of features and controls you can use while shooting video. And the video quality doesn't seem to suffer at the longer focal lengths like the photo image quality does. Overall, I think a novice to intermediate level photographer will be very satisfied with this camera. Throw in the excellent video, and compact form factor, and this is a definite winner.
I had considered the newer version of this camera, which has an even longer zoom range, but the lens was a little bit slower and I didn't think that would be as useful for the kind of photography I do. Plus I shoot a number of micro four-thirds cameras when I really need top notch stills and or 4k video quality.
From an overall enthusiasts perspective it earns four stars, but for an overall camera for a beginner or intermediate level photographer this is definitely a five-star camera.

The picture quality is good, it's easy to use, and the 10x zoom is fantastic given that the camera is quite compact. Usually this zoom capability requires a much wider housing. My only complaint is that the extensive set of electronic setting options are difficult to follow. The instruction booklet could be more extensive.

I spent a long time going between this camera and the Canon G7 mkii. It was a really tough choice. I'm glad I chose the Panasonic. The picture quality is amazing n par with my Canon SLR. My only complaint is that it is hard to learn the features of this camera. I purchased a separate book to help me learn it.

Camera works well in all conditions, low light as well bright daylight. Zoom is effective and clear through most of its range. I find my picture quality is better than many SLR cameras.
Expensive and not for someone wanting basic photos. It if are seeking quality photographs in a small compact camera this is your camera
I also have a Sony 100 and this camera does not have as good low light than that, but it also doesn't have a limited 70mm zoom.
If you can afford both cameras you are set. For a quality camera with solid results in most conditions and a good zoom lenses it's worth the price.
If you are thinking of purchasing a entry to mid-level SLR with multiple lenses check this out first.

I got this after doing extensive research. I wish the manual was more user friendly but the camera is intuitive and you'll pick it up fast. I love so many function keys which can bind your most used settings. The zoom is lovely, though occasionally the slowness of the lens at the max end of tele can be frustrating, but its a compromise. Battery lasts long enough, though you might find getting an extra may be helpful. DO consider getting an external charger, the thought of charging the battery IN the camera can be disconcerting. All in all, a great buy on a budget.

I’m very new to cameras and have only really used point-and-shoot cameras, but this one is a great camera to start exploring. I’ve brought this camera to concerts, and the pictures I’ve taken in here have definitely beat the ones I’ve taken on my phone, hands down. It’s also nice and compact to bring on vacations and family events.

I'll start out with the one bad characteristic, the lens is a little bit soft at certain apertures and focal lengths. However, unless you're pixel peeping, you probably won't notice it. The lens is also a little bit slower than a lot of other 1" cameras, because it has such a long zoom range. Overall I think it is worth the trade-off. It has great manual controls, is fairly straightforward to work with, and the touchscreen is fantastic. This is a great all-in-one camera to take on a trip, if you don't want to bring your larger interchangeable lens camera with you.
Any recent overseas trip, I took an Olympus e-m1 Mark II with several lenses, the Canon g7x enthusiast camera, and this. I took the overwhelming majority of pictures with this camera. In camera raw processing is very nice also.
The overall video features and quality are outstanding on the camera, lots of customization available on the video.
I would actually recommend this camera over the newer version, because although the zoom range is longer on the new version, the lens is a little bit better quality on this one, and the apertures are faster. Plus being an older model it's less expensive.
If you are looking for the ultimate in image quality in a pocketable camera, get the Sony RX100 mk 6. But you'll pay three times more for it.

This is a GREAT little pocket camera. Very point-and-shoot, plus there's super high quality video, 4K bursts, etc. I won't tell you everything it does, because there are people better versed than me. But I bought it to use mainly for my Scout Troop (so I don't have to have my phone on me when we're out adventuring!), and it is everything you'd ask for in a pocket camera: Compact, excellent zoom, long battery life, great quality photos and videos.

Love this camera - great for just point and shoot travel days. The advanced settings take a little bit longer to learn, but the manual is very helpful, and there are YouTube videos to watch. However, the basic functions are very easy to use, and can be used right out of the box.
I do recommend buying backup batteries - I use mine for daily shoots, and my battery tends to last about 2 hours

I work with this camera and it is just the right size to care around. It take great pictures. The only problem I have had is for some reason it will change to video without me knowing it. Might just be me. I took a picture of ducks in our pond at the same distance as a Sony A600 with a much bigger lens and the pictures were almost the same. Also took video of the Beach Boys and they were in good quality when we were over a 100yd away from the stage and at night.

I had a Kodak Easy Share Z760, which was a great camera for getting in 2005. It finally started acting up due to battery issues, so I thought it was time to get a new one. Tried a couple out, returned on, then settled on this.
The Kodak Easy Share, even though aged, was a hard camera to replace, because that took great pictures for a point & click (with some manual control, to boot).
Now I can say that I finally found something that's MUCH better, and can be a simple point & click, or there's also the option to go with a wee bit of a steep learning curve (that gets easier, trust me). But there's lots to learn with this camera, and I've only just started learning.
But I will say, that on auto or manual, this camera takes clean, crisp 35mm-like pictures, in darkened or lit rooms, and I've yet to try outdoors (can't wait).
Yes. Terrific quality, but like II said, I've lots to learn yet, so I know I didn't come close to reaching this camera's full potential.
And it was great to get a few hundred bucks off, while on a half-off sale.

Love the camera. Takes great photos; easy to use. fantastic displays; touchscreen is awesome! Have seen reviews that dis the viewfinder display, but if want a camera with all the features this has, don't know how you could ask for a better viewfinder display than this one. Love the fact that with the diopter adjustment, I can see perfectly without using my readers. And no glare!

Great travel companion! I shoot with a Fuji mirrorless camera and was looking for something that my significant other could use on trips alike. She isn't as versed in cameras as I am and it is easy for her to use and understand while getting high quality images. Great to fit in a pocket or small bag for traveling

Used this on recent vacation and loved the pictures coming out of it. Still too new to be able to use all of the features, including full manual capabilities and raw, but did fall back on auto many times which worked very well. Not quite pants pocket sized but with almost SLR abilities it beat having to schlep a big camera and several lenses on a trip! So far highly recommend.

For those who are starting out with point and shoots and not researched LUMIX/Panasonic. Here is a few things from my short time with the camera.
I was interested with the long zoom 25-250mm Leica lens that came with it. This sold me immediately. Plus the 20MP sensor is a plus! Since I used this for a concert I loved the high burst. Although I was in JPEG rather than RAW my SD card processed all the photos in a timely manner.
Now, the downside to this. Without knowing the problem with Panasonic LUMIX I was horrified with the Zoom Error where it wouldn’t retract the lens back into the camera and it would stay stuck out/in. I would have to turn off and remove the battery. And since I was hoping that the camera would not give any issues during the concert I was panicking if it would work.
Overall, it’s a good camera! Just keep this error in mind when purchasing.
