This Panasonic microwave with built in Alexa has been a blast to use.
Setup - Opening up the box, you are greeted with the typical stuff. The microwave is nicely wrapped, and there is a manual that goes over the setup. Once you plug it into a power source, it walks you through setting up the time, and connecting it to Wi-Fi.
Use - The microwave itself has been functioning great so far. I’ve had no issues while heating up food. I do enjoy the auto sensing feature. Basically, you place any food inside of the microwave, and press the auto sensing button. It does it’s magic, and heats up your food perfectly. At times, it will ask you to rotate or flip it. I have not come across anything that came out cold. All of my food has been thoroughly cooked.
Style - Lastly, I love the stainless steel look. It matched all of my other appliances in my home well. Panasonic has been around for years, and they know how to make great appliances.
All in all, this microwave is definitely worth a shot if you’re in the market for a new one.

One of the Best Microwave Ovens

The Panasonic NN-SV79MS 1.4 Cu Ft Microwave Oven with Inverter Technology and Alexa compatibility is a beauty! With its stainless steel design, it matches most of my other kitchen appliances and shines much brighter.
This microwave can be set up to respond to voice commands after setting it up to use Amazon's Alexa making it quite easy to use. The oven cooks very evenly and thoroughly using Panasonic's Inverter technology. The device fits under my kitchen cabinets and is a very nice addition to my kitchen.
My only complaint is the thick black power cord - it makes it very hard to put it against the counter wall and is shorter than I wish it was - could use another 2-3 inches in length. The oven comes with convection and Sensor cook, uses 1200 watts, has an LED display and a knob you turn to manually select cooking time if you so desire. There is no number pad on the front panel to input from.
It takes a bit of learning to set up and get using the microwave but once you have, it works easily and very well.

Great microwave that includes Alexa functionality!

This is my first time using an inverter microwave and my first time using an Alexa enabled microwave, so this was a new experience. This microwave does a great job at microwaving. Food cooks evenly and consistently thanks to the inverter technology. I can definitely tell that this does a better job of heating food evenly and consistently than my previous non-inverter microwave.
When it comes to the Alexa functionality, that did work pretty well. It allows you to tell Alexa a specific amount of time you want to cook something and then the microwave starts. From my usage of this feature, it always worked reliably and quickly. That being said, you do still have to walk up to the microwave, open the door, and put the food inside. By the time you do all that and are standing right there, I personally prefer to just set the microwave manually. I think it is quicker and easier. For me, the Alexa functionality feels like it requires more effort than just setting the microwave manually, so I don’t expect to be using that functionality much. I wouldn’t spend extra money on that feature unless it is something you really want and feel you have a use case for. Some may really like this feature, but for me, it feels like more of a gimmick.
There are some things I did not like about this microwave that I would like to point out. When I received this microwave the first time, the unit that was sent to me was defective and only worked intermittently. Fortunately, the replacement is working properly, but it does have an annoying sound that comes from the microwave that doesn’t seem normal to me. It is very noticeable when I run the microwave. Not sure if that is just my unit or what but the first unit that did work intermittently never seemed to have this sound. It doesn’t seem like the sound has affected the functionality of the unit though, which is good. I do wonder if Panasonic is having some quality control issues with these units considering these issues I experienced.
A few other things to point out. There is no keypad on this unit to type in the time to cook something. Either you can use Alexa or you turn the knob on the unit to set the time you want. It is more difficult to use the knob if you need a long amount of cooking time as it sets the time in 5 second increments. Also, our previous microwave would display the clock at all times, which was very useful. This Panasonic unit only displays the clock when you are using it and for a short period after. I couldn’t find any setting to enable it to stay on all the time which is quite disappointing. Keeping the time on uses very little power at all, so not sure why there couldn’t have been an option to have it stay on. It is really nice that the clock on this syncs to the internet so you don’t have to set it, but it is less useful since it doesn’t stay on all the time.
Overall, this is a good microwave. I really like the inverter technology and how well it cooks food, which is the most important thing. While I did have some issues with this unit and think there could be improvements to this Microwave in the future, I am happy with it overall. If you want a microwave that does a great job of cooking and has Alexa functionality, this is a great option!

Pro:
-Alexa compatible
-Automatic settings
Con:
-Sensor cooking either undercook or overcook
-Small
As a standard microwave, excluding all the smart features, it’s fine. It has simplified controls and heats up food fast and evenly. As much as I love smart features on anything, this seems more of a gimmick to me. The voice control works well but doesn’t really save time and the sensor cooking can be unreliable compared to manual setting.
The microwave looks nice, having a brushed stainless steel exterior. The controls are simplified with six buttons and a dial. There’s no number buttons, but having used a previous Panasonic with similar layout, it’s not an issue. It does need an extra button press or two, rather than just turning the dial to set the time and press start. The interior is a bit small. The rotating glass plate is about the size of a standard dinner plate.
Setting up was simple. Upon powering up, you can set it up through the Alexa app with a QR code and it’ll connect to your wifi. You can skip it entirely too but you won’t have the voice commands available. The settings are retained if the power goes out, which I’m really thankful for.
The Alexa voice control has a wide range of commands. It can be something as simple as telling it to heat for a certain amount of time, something more specific like “microwave frozen vegetables,” or telling it to cook something by weight, time, and power level. The feature itself is cool and the response time is immediate, but it takes about the same amount of time to activate Alexa and say the command as it would for you to turn the dial. Plus you’re already at the microwave so it doesn’t really add that much of a convenience.
The sensor cooking has settings for reheating, various frozen foods, drinks and liquids, vegetables, etc. It senses when the cooking is done by detecting steam, but it’s very hit or miss. Reheating tends to overheat, making the food dry. Food that is covered seems to throw the sensors off, while frozen food stops halfway through. I just end up using manual settings like I would normally do.
In the end, it’s still a good functioning microwave. The smart features just don't really add convenience over dialing the time manually. Voice control is there if you want and it does work well. I mainly use the microwave for quick reheating or frozen foods, and for those, the sensor cooking didn’t really work that well.

Great Microwave with smart features & cooks fast

The Panasonic Microwave with Inverter Technology and Alexa compatibility is a nice microwave with smart home tech inside. Setting up the microwave was fairly easy and not too complicated. The only installation is placing the Glass Tray and Roller Ring on the inside of the microwave. Pretty much every microwave I’ve purchased requires installing the tray and roller ringer inside the unit after taking it out of the packaging. The 58 page manual is very thorough with easy to read instructions and illustrations. The microwave has two ways of setting up Alexa. The Zero-Touch method requires you to have opted in to link your device to your Amazon purchase. Since this did not apply to me, I had to use the Barcode Setup method. This method requires you to open the Alexa app on your mobile device and it will automatically find the device. The Alexa app was not able to automatically find the device, so I clicked on Add Device and scanned the Barcode that is located on the inside panel of the microwave. The microwave was not able to connect to my Wifi because the WiFi setting, which should be in ready mode, was not. I had to press and hold the Popcorn button for about 3 seconds to turn on the microwave’s WiFi. I was then able to complete the setup process of pairing it with Alexa. Using Alexa commands is fast. As soon as I give the command to my Alexa home device, it instantly initiate the command to the microwave. You really don’t need a microwave with Alexa support, but it’s good to have for those times you want to impress someone, or for those times when you’re cooking something that requires additional steps. Selecting the time and pressing start for most microwaves is quick and easy. This microwave with built in Alexa is great for those times when you have a specific time you’d like to enter, along with a certain power level you’d like the food to be cooked at. I can quickly initiate that command using Alexa, rather than pushing a bunch of different buttons on a traditional microwave to execute the same command. The microwave cooks much faster than my previous microwave. It’s probably due to the Inverter technology. I don’t have to cook or warmup my food as long as I did on my previous microwave. The build quality is pretty good. However, I noticed that when I close the door it doesn’t sound as premium as my previous microwave. It has a rather cheap and loud sound. I also noticed the feet underneath the microwave makes is sit up higher than my previous microwave. I have my microwave installed in an opening above my oven. With the taller feet on this microwave, it creates a larger space between the microwave and the shelf it’s sitting on. It would have been nice if the feet were a tad smaller, so it could give it a cleaner look where I have it installed. Overall, I’m enjoying this microwave with it’s built in Alexa features.

I thought it was a little weird at first having a microwave that you can control by voice and not have number buttons on the screen to enter the amount of time you wanted to set it to, just open your Alexa app connect via wifi scan the QR code & your on your way with quick & easy voice control with 100 voice commands I moved me Alexa to the kitchen so it close by & can be cleaning while making a meal I’ve never really used the microwave except for simple warming up leftovers as making popcorn. So I decided to give it a try I first used the defrost which defrosted my boneless chicken breast pulled it out seasoned it & put it back to cook choose the weight & it cooked to perfection. Baked potatoes also cooked good not dry or undercooked, always stood there and watched my popcorn it has 3 level setting to make popcorn so it wouldn’t burn I pushed the popcorn button and left it cooked perfect and did not burn, so many preset options, I was excited side it was definitely bigger then my previous countertops microwave it have a removable glass try for easy cleaning, 1.4 CU ft of cooking space with 1200 watts of power, auto adjusting cooking for varies foods, nice stainless steel body fit in perfectly with the rest of my appliances. Loving my new Panasonic NN-SV7MS, it makes me feel a little lazy as much as I’ve been using it hands free no need to get your microwave dirty when multitasking cooking meals.

We're in a time now where we can talk to our devices and tell them what to do without lifting a finger, Now even with this microwave! Did you forget your coffee when you heated it up earlier and now need to reheat? No problem Alexa will do it for you.
With everything tech being automated or voice activated nowadays, it really takes some of the stress out of our days with devices like this.
Out of the box it's a beautiful brushed aluminum exterior, with an unusual dark inside. I honestly this is the first microwave I've ever seen that wasn't white or a similar light color inside. Tends to make it easier to see what mess is inside that you may need to clean in my opinion. But I'm a fan of manly look of black and silver, metal and glass look so I actually like the look inside and out.
One thing the last two microwaves haven't had including this one is a numerical pad with actual numbers that you can push a precise number in. But this has a jog dial which is super easy and fast to use so no real complaints. I'm just a creature of habit I suppose haha.
One of the nicest features I liked was the inverted heat, dispersing heat evenly cooking everything throughout. Not leaving cold spots like in some other microwaves I've had in the past. It's stated that it can acknowledge 100+ Alexa commands. It really saves you the hassle of making a mess of the microwave buttons if you're in the middle of preparing dinner. I'd definitely recommend this to others!

Hey Alexa, microwave popcorn!

This microwave oven combines power and smarts to make life in the kitchen a little easier. There are 20 Auto/Sensor Cook options ranging from heating a cup a coffee, cooking frozen nuggets, or softening cream cheese. Within each option, there are subsequent selections such as the ounce count or quantity being cooked. It may seem overwhelming at first as you scroll through the sensor cook options to find the specific one that you need. That’s where Alexa comes in. Once you place your desired food into the oven, just close the door and tell Alexa what to do. For example, you would say “Alexa, microwave 4 of frozen pancakes”. To be honest, this is a cool feature but not sure if it will just be a party trick when friends are over or if it will be something that I do every day. But for now, it is convenient to just ask Alexa to do something versus having to fiddle with the buttons and dial. With our love of popcorn, it seems our daily voice command seems to be “Alexa, microwave 2.8 ounces of popcorn” and off it goes!
I do want to point out that the Alexa voice commands only work if the door has been opened within the past 10 minutes, which is a great feature to prevent kids from randomly goofing around trying to tell Alexa to start the microwave. Additionally, the feature can be turned off altogether if needed.
Overall, the combination of power, cooking accuracy, and Alexa integration make it a valuable addition to the overall kitchen experience.

Inverter Technology Rocks
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Apparently I have been living in a cave and had no idea what inverter technology is. Rather than blasting at 100% power for various intervals to achieve slower cooking this unit can throttle to a specific constant output power, which, in this case, results in even more efficient cooking especially in rewarm and defrost modes.
Although I have been happy with my previous unit I could not resist the opportunity to own and use my first smart appliance. My inner geek as been fulfilled. The ability to issue vocal commands as you place the food in the device is oh so convenient. Even with a good layout with all the functions available these days it can take a moment to find the correct setting. Now it is as easy as saying Alexa cook 4 potatoes.
For completely manual operation the front panel is easy to use even with the limited number of inputs. But why bother when you can manually say Alexa cook for 4 minutes at 70% power. The thing is that the presets are just excellent. Internal sensors detect temperature and that along with the basic parameters such as food type, execution, and weight/quantity the system produces nicely defrosted foods, perfectly cooked frozen or fresh vegies etc.
All in all a great microwave that will fulfill your inner geek while preforming various culinary functions very well. Enjoy!

First class microwave with sharp appearance and highly functional. Performs as would be expected of any microwave really but with some neat added perks new tricks. This thing is smart compatible and can be controlled with the Alexa app. Setup is simple – just follow the included instructions and once linked to you Alexa account the microwave will function and respond to voice commands through the app. This is high power 1200 watts but also highly efficient and adjust its own power based on what you’re cooking. Many common presets and function items to get things cooking easily without much hassle. The large 1.4 cubic feet interior capacity makes with quite capable to handle pretty much any size dish. Of course has the almighty and always necessary “POPCORN” button so rest assured you will still be able to host movie night.
Overall main takeaways for me are that this is a nice looking powerful unit with some neat new voice command features that are cool if you’re in to that, but for me seemed a little but over the top for a microwave, but still very cool none the less.

In the market for a new microwave? The Panasonic NN- SV79MS is a sleek and stylish microwave.
The packaging it comes in is very sturdy and rigid. Once I opened it up nothing was damaged. Which is a welcome surprise as many products are poorly packaged these days.
Once opened the setup was very simple just plugged it in and was ready to go!
My first impressions were that it was the perfect microwave as it’s everything one could hope for. The preprogrammed 20 cooking options was awesome!
I could cook anything in this with its 1.4CU space. Definitely won’t do say a large turkey at the holidays.
I tried bacon, potatoes , eggs, and several different pre programmed options. They all came out perfect as I would expect. Even heat all around didn’t notice any cold spots.
The biggest feature that I love about this microwave is the Alexa integration. Over 100 commands! I was able to direct the microwave to cook something while outside and working. I just had to place it in there before I went out. I gave the command to Alexa to cook and boom by time I came in it was cooked.

This is such a sleek looking appliance. We have a lot of stainless in our kitchen and this fit right in. Slightly smaller than the previous microwave however the suave inside is the same. 1200 watts so make sure you pay attention to microwave directions since most are for 1000 watt or 1100 watt from what I've seen lately. The Alexa commands are kind of fun and silly, my oldest son seems to think that's the best part of this "robot microwave" as he calls it. I'm super impressed with all of the programming and cooking presets. The turbo defrost works better than any other microwave I've used. It's not super loud and so far has been super easy to clean. The popcorn preset works super well. My favorite part is the inverter, everything heats up so evenly now. No cold spots effects when heating up leftovers. If you use plastic or melamine plates for kids please be aware the plate gets hotter than I'm used to but I've just started heating everything on a regular plate to combat that one small issue.

I love this microwave.
It's beautiful, large and powerful. And best of all, Alexa helps me cook.
If you already have the Alexa app, setup is simple. Plug the cord in, wait for the microwave to connect to the internet, open the Alexa app and follow the instructions in the app. If you don't have the app yet, it's a quick download. Setup was quick and easy.
Setting a bag of popcorn in the microwave, I told Alexa to cook popcorn to which she asked the weight. Once I gave her the info the microwave started and the bag popcorn was popped to perfection in less time than any other microwave I've had.
Needing ground beef defrosted for supper I told Alexa to defrost one pound of ground beef, the microwave started and in 6 minutes I had one pound of beef defrosted all the way through with no browning on the outside.
Alexa, add 30 seconds to the microwave, or Alexa cook for 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
With over 100 voice commands Alexa does it all.
Using sensor reheat to warm up leftovers works great. The microwave senses steam to calculate when the food is heated through.
All operations are available without using Alexa and you'll still get the great results. But having Alexa help in the kitchen is awesome.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback with us! If your Alexa function on the NN-SV79M microwave is running slow, there could be a few reasons for this. Firstly, ensure that you have a stable and strong Wi-Fi network, as a weak connection can cause delays in Alexa responses. Also, make sure the microwave is within the range of your wireless network and Echo device. -M

I invested more than I usually do for a microwave to have a good one last longer as average life of a microwave should be 5 years. This stopped working about 20 months later and I had to lug this into the Best Buy store for service. Not easy because I am a widow and weigh 98 pounds and no one else to take it in for me. It was covered under a service protection plan I had purchased. They repaired it and I lugged it back home. The exact same thing happened 3 months later but the service plan had expired 20 days before and they would not honor it. I will not buy from BB again or a Panasonic.
