Tremendous 4K player, very impressive. One of the most impressive 4K players we've seen in a very very long time. It hits the sweet spot between quality and affordability.

About 2 years ago, I bought the Xbox One S to play 4K Blu-Rays. The only reason why I chose the Xbox is that at least I could use it for 4K discs and at the same time be able to play games. It was 2 for the price of 1. But I am not a gamer so I didn’t use it much to play games but to watch 4k Blu-Rays. I wasn’t impressed at all and I thought my regular Blu-Ray player even had better picture quality than 4k discs on the Xbox. Fast forward 2 years later. I realized that I wasn’t maximizing my 65” Samsung QLED TV that I bought last year and watching mediocre 4k discs using my Xbox. I researched for several days and chose this Panasonic DP-UB420-K. I finally bit the bullet last week and ordered it. What a big difference! Like night and day. I now have great picture quality watching the 4k movies on this Panasonic 4k player. Even the sound is a lot better, specially those discs with Dolby Atmos. My regret is that I should have bought this sooner and when it was on sale for $100 less. Great job Panasonic!

If you don’t need Dolby Vision then this is the best 4k player out there for the money. Really the lack if external display and Dolby Vision support are the only real differences ive found between this and the UB820. That’s a great player and if you find it on a good sale, go for it. Otherwise, youll be plenty happy with this one. Great picture and the HDR optimizer makes a big difference.

AMAZING Quality coming out of this 4K projector. My picture is crystal clear and there is no lag or any issues. Controller is nice and easy to use as well. It also does an excellent job upscaling Blu Rays. I don't use the smart features as I have fire sticks.

this unit can output great sound and picture with BluRay disc and 4k. the UI is not as pretty as I would like but the ease of use makes up for it. two HDMI ports for tv and soundbar. easy wifi connectivity and apps available in a proprietary app store

Good and so far no problem at all. Excellent player and just needed 1 connection to operate. Easy to use .

Work well. Can watch all of our dvd’s blue ray and 4k’s.

Upgraded my HD Panasonic TV to a Sony 4K HD TV. Being a big Panasonic fan I figured since I couldn't buy the TV I'd puchase the DVD player. Excellent play back. My no-blue-ray DVD's picture enhancement is awesome. Music Cd's audio is unbelievable. Excellent price for the many features!

I had recently bought a 70" 4K TV for the house and I also bought the Panasonic blue ray player for it and it works great. What I hadn't noticed was that this player is 3D compatible. Well I have an older LG 47" in the den that is 3D and my 3D player had quit working some time ago and so I wound up buying another one of these for that TV and now I can watch 3D video's again. I hope they keep this model around for a long time to come.

Great UHD Blu-Ray player with plenty of options to accomodate different AV setups. The streaming and app interface seems dated but I can't say how well it works since all streaming I do is directly through the TV. Bottom line is buy it for Blu-Ray and DVD playback and if your are doing that in 2021 you probably dont need the builtin streaming. Sidenote: There is some crosscompatibility between my Samsung TV and Yamaha reciever so that the turning the player on turns on the TV and reciever. The TV remote can control some of the player functions though the player's own remote is still quicker for play/pause as the TV remote ends up operating via a proxy on-screen-display.

Menu blinked on & off when we set this Blu-ray player up initially. We purchased a new good quality 4K HDMI cable ( Monster), and the unit worked perfectly. Hopefully it will continue to operate this way !

We purchased this item to replace an older DVD/Blu-Ray player(not Panasonic) we were having trouble with. We've had 2 problems with our purchase: 1) unit comes with a quick set-up guide only. This was not enough to properly set up the unit and integrate it with our other components. We were able to find a more detailed user guide on-line, but it is poorly written and often confusing, and still doesn't give us the information on all the features. 2) The main problem we have with integrating with our other components is that an older model of Panasonic (VHS RW and DVD RW in 1 machine) reacts to inputs from the new Blu-Ray remote control, and they interfere with each other. Our work-around is to unplug the older machine when we are not using it. We dislike this very much. Except for these problems, the new unit works quite well, and we enjoy watching it for older DVDs and for Blu-Ray discs.

I have some Telarc DVDs that are 2-sided, One side is DVD-AUDIO, the other side is DVD VIDEO/DVD ROM. This Panasonic model will NOT play either one. For example, TELARC-DVDA70541 Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture, The liner notes say "A DVD-Audio player is required to play the high-resolution surround and stereo programs on this disc. This disc will NOT play on a CD player. This disc also contains compatible DVD-VIDEO programs." The disc can play in dts surround and dolby digital surround. As expected, trying to play the DVD-Audio side results in the DVD displaying a message to flip the DVD over and play the DVD Video side. Done. Guess what? "Cannot read disc." Even after firmware update. The disc is not damaged, it is in pristine condition, and these aren't cheap. My old cheapie Sony played the DVD-Video side. R.I.P. If you have a collection of discs like this I suggest you keep shopping. I am forced to decide if I recommend this item. CONDITIONAL yes. NO if you have a collection of discs like mine.

Panasonic has always been the brand we have bought for the quality, functionality and price and this device did not disappoint. Picture quality is excellent. Very easy to use. Along with streaming functions it also plays CD's, DVD's and Blu-Ray's.

So far I am very happy. This is my third Panasonic player. I've had blu ray version on 2 TVs for quite a few years. This one loads quickly and upscale of blu ray and DVD works well. Easy to set up and use.

Very solid Blu Ray player that also handles our DVD collection well. Straightforward use, though the remote control has some puzzling options we haven't figured out yet.

This BluRay player delivers high quality performance as expected from a respected company.

Easy set up takes control and insures optimal setting are in place for viewing, without the mundane toggling through process of programming. Make sure to use an Aufioquest Ocean HDMI or higher cable model to insure the best picture and sound quality!

So far it has performed great. I have not had any problem with any disc that I have played so far. Good machine.

I replaced a blu ray with this 4k player. I own a Samsung 4k player too. I actually preferred the Panasonic though. However, I rather recently put in a blu ray of the Valkyrie and while it would read the menu it said it couldn't play the disc. Hmmm. While some discs can go bad I tried it in the Samsung and it played. Ok, so I put in a 4K of Private Ryan and it played OK until a certain part and it froze up. Coincidence ? Probably not. The chance of picking a random disc not being playable and another freezing in a particular part makes it probable it's the player. However, if memory serves It did play a recent Lord of the Rings 4K disc perfectly which i think i tried after the issues. I'll have to try more discs though to see if I run into more issues. I stream alot though directly from TV and watch alot of the movies that way too though. In any case the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars is the probable issue with the player. Interesting I see another person is reporting the the same issue with random freezing. If it is indeed the players it's not good and I wouldn't recommend. For now I would still recommend assuming this isn't a common issue. Since owning for almost 4 months though I can't return it so hopefully this doesn't become worse or more of an issue.
