Phillips Hue (2 gen)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After having the 3rd generation I mistakenly purchased these lights. I quickly ran back to return them, they do not have all of the colors that the 3rd generation has. Go with the generation 3 Phillips Hue.

Ambience colors are weak
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The light works good with Alexa as far as on/off and brightness levels. I am very disappointed with the weak colors. Save your money and get the white one.

awesome!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive got 35+ hue lights and love them. The only downside was the 40w equivalent for the colored bulbs. I prefer a brighter light. Whoo hoo, these do that!!! Noticibly brighter!!!! The only downside is the amazon echo and ivee can't control the v2 bulbs yet :-( Im assured they are working on it and its worth buying despite this. I plan to buy more once the integration is available. The decorative lamps are fine with 40w but lamp lamps need to be brighter! Hue rocks overall!

Blue is Purple
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not recommend if you want the color blue, these lights give off purple instead of blue. I have tried several blue pics with different color temps & get the same results. I have 14 Hue Bloom's & they have a deep rich blue color.

Relatively inexpensive dual purpose lighting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Of course everyone will have there own idea about what is relatively inexpensive but when I was looking at products capabilities of Philips Hue standard base adjustable white tempurature and with color control high end products which perform as well as the Hue are very costly. The bulb design allows me to adjust the beam angle from wide to narrow by way of the light fixture I select to install it in. For example behind the television I have created s very narrow light projection angle by installing the bulbs in a tall, slender uplight can type fixture where the bulbs are recessed so the light escaping washes the wall behind the big screen TV at a narrow beam. I have installed the Hue bulbs in varying light fixtures to affect the beam angle of the light. Hue bulbs are absolutely free from issues, such as him, flickering and strobing, throughout the full dimming range and unaffected by noisy power lines such as I have in my apartment. You can select the color tempurature of white light and have fun with the great range of colors these bulbs can output. For those unaware the Hue bulbs set to brightest white are claimed to have a lumens output of a standard 60watt light bulb though I feel it look more like 70watts. I have, therefore, more standard higher output bulbs throughout the apartment for greater illumination when required. Now that I have so many Hue bulbs within a short distance from one another I rarely use the standard lights in my home. As for control of the Hue lighting system. That is a little less straight forward I have discovered. The current IOS app put out by Philips to control Hue was recently redesigned and I find it cumbersome to use. You can still use the older Philips app however new users may not have that option. That said there are many developers who have created inexpensive Hue apps only 2 of which I have tried. For my small system the IOS Huemote app has worked just fine. My geofencing (Hue system knowing when I leave and return home) is still controlled by the original Philips app I installed when I got my very first Hue bulb. I never come home to a dark apartment after dusk. I have just learned that my newly acquired Logitech Harmony remote system is capable of controlling the Hue Bridge as well. The heart of the Hue lighting system is a small white Hue Bridge which is about the size of a 3rd generation Apple TV. It has 3 blue LED status lights and a button on top used to perform bulb setup. The bridge wirelessly controls each Hue bulb however the bridge itself must be plugged into your home network with an Ethernet cable (supplied). So your controllers, phone, tablet, Harmony remote send commands to the Hue Bridge which then wirelessly transmits the commands to the bulbs you desire. I have not had any issue with the Hue Bridge being unable to wirelessly reach any bulbs in my small home. Perhaps additional bridges should be required as repeaters in a larger house.

Not what I thought
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this bulb along with a start up kit. After hours of wasted time I returned it. The Phillips app requires another app to make it do what I wanted . Too much work for expensive light bulbs.

Good bulb
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The bulb is not a bad bulb. It just requires you to buy a hub to go along with it just adding on to the cost.

Very Cool, Not Quite Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In order to use the bulbs, you will need to purchase the Hue Bridge, which plugs via short Ethernet cable into your wireless router. The setup was fairly straight-forward. I purchased several of these light bulbs about 8 months from the date of this review; to be installed in various places in our living room. The lighting is good, based on the size of the room that I installed them in. The box lists the brightness in lumens, which to most people I know, is not very helpful. You get beautiful color in all ranges except the yellow to green range. The yellow and the green are somewhat dull (not very saturated.) Reds, purples, blues, oranges all are very good. At full intensity (100% bright) the light is very good. The white is a slight off-white. I have been primarily using the Hue Pro app Version 2.3.8. I purchased it so that I could have more control; but then the Hue App added a lot of functionality after I purchased the Hue Pro app. With the app, you can set timers on the lights and which color scheme you wish to use. You can create your own preset color schemes, and in the Hue Pro, it comes with some presets including 2 random color presets; which change each time you activate them. I didn't intend for this to be an app review, but to take advantage of the all the features of the Hue lights, you need an app. I also have been using the Philips Hue App (which has recently been updated to version 2.4.0 (96) on the Android platform but have not explored it yet. It seems to provide some cool features. You can also connect to the Hue Bridge (required) while away from home through either app, but the Philips Hue app requires you to create an account with them. You can obviously directly turn lights on and off with the app, and as of this writing, you can use a manual dimmer to control the brightness of the lights, but I don't know of a way to adjust the color of the light manually without an app. We have also purchased the Amazon Echo, which, when configured, allows you to turn the lights on or off using vocal commands, as well as set the dim level. I have had very, very few issues with the product after installation. Even adding more lights was not difficult. Using IFTTT (If this, then that) recipes, the Hue system along with other home automation tools (Nest thermostat, Apple products, Samsung products, and so on) is capable of some really cool stuff. (You’ll have to look up IFTTT yourself.) In summary, while expensive for home lighting, I liked the product and would recommend it to people looking for some cool, if not unusual lighting effects for your home.

Great Smart Home product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love these bulbs. They work seamlessly with the Amazon Echo and put out some amazing colors. My only gripe is that some of the colors arent as vivid as others.... but a small price to pay for something that works this well.

Very cool lights
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They are a bit expensive for a lightbulb, but having all of the different selectable colors, plus the fact that it's LED and will last a long time, it's worth the money.

The disco future is here
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just like the white light bulbs but with a few neat twists. Ill copy paste my white bulb review below this because they can do everything the white ones can, but first I want to hit on the differences. obviously they can do color. I will say that most of the colors (your reds, blues, pinks, purples) look amazing. It has trouble emitting some of the spectrum however, mainly green and variations of it. Im sure there is a technical reason why (which im sure someone will point it no doubt) but i dont really care why. The point is it doesnt but it doesnt really detract from the product. You could say their color function is a novelty, and it is, but Ive had them for a few months now and when I do get a chance to relax in my bedroom, its really fun to throw on the deep blues or light lavenders or even have each one be a different color. Although your main use of them will probably be the white for every day use, they can still be awesome. and REALLY perfect for kids rooms. Now onto the everyday functions. These little gems really are awesome. I hooked these up to my Amazon Echo and now i can walk into my bedroom and say "alexa, turn on my overhead lights" or "alexa turn on my mood lights" (i have the color ones in various fixtures around the room and call them my mooood lights) and boom they come on. I can even say "alexa, set my bed lights to 50%" and they dim. Even without the echo they are still quite awesome. If I am away from my house for the night (or multiple nights) i can switch lights on and off from my phone so i looks like someone is home. I have it set to an alarm that has them turn on on weekdays at the same time my alarm goes off so that I have light as well as sound to wake me up (and because i get up when it is still dark out, i can see where i am going) It also has a function that when you walk into the house (basically when your phone connects to your home wifi) it will turn on your lights. I am sure there are many more uses and functions I have yet to discover... im still playing though.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't think I can go back to using regular lights anymore. These are great and the colors are much calmer than I thought they would be. Only thing is that it's a big on the expensive side for a light bulb.

You don't know what you're missing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Adding Philips Hue to my house has added another level of comfort. I never knew what my house was missing until I could change the color or temperature of my lighting. From chilling out in the evening or needing to focus on a project, don't underestimate the value of lighting!

Works fine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does exactly what you buy it to do. I mean the price is always gonna be of some contention, but I mean it isn't a normal bulb so I guess you shouldn't complain much. I use the philips hue system in my house every single day so even though the bulbs are obviously pricier, they do work as they are supposed to and I get my moneys worth.

it is a great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love Hue! It is easy to setup, the colors are pretty good. Hard to get real dark intensity but great pinks, reds, blues and purples. You can put a lot of bulbs on one controller.
