Customers enjoy the Hue White A19 LED Starter Kit's ease of use, brightness control, and compatibility with smart home systems like Apple HomeKit and Alexa. Many appreciate the simple setup and the ability to automate lighting schedules. I thought I had bought a great kit of light bulbs for my new home but they turned out to be the best set of lights that I've ever had. They can be programmed to be on and Ican turn them on or off with my celphone even if I am away from home!
I need to get some more for my family and friends, this kit will be the perfect Christmas present.

I like these smart light bulb. Because you can control the ambiance from high to low and you can control them individually so that you won’t wake up your wife or husband. It’s very cool gadgets you can use a timer for the morning and night. Highly recommended.

Bought this for Alexa integration. That part works flawlessly. I can also dim the lights with the phone app. That also works quite well. But here are where the good stops.
So this Philips Hue bulbs (4) with bridge is a great starter way to get into home automation. Set up was fairly easy, though you would need to be close to your internet modem or wifi router/ network router to plug in the internet cable. This is where the WEMO switches have the upper hand, where they already have the wifi connection built in and all you have to do is connect them wirelessly to your wifi router. Yes, I understand that the bridge is there for expansion, as you can add quite a few more lights to the same bridge, so the bridge in itself is a separate, private wireless router. But it could be hard to install for some application as you have to be close to your home router and an AC outlet. Putting that aside, the connection stays pretty good. I have the lights in the basement, and the hue bridge in the basement and Alexa upstairs. Alexa more times than not, will detect and control the lights before I go down. When I am in the basement, my only control method is my app, which is also pretty responsive. It may sometimes take a couple of tries to get the right dim or for the light to show up in the app but most of the times it gets it right. The nice thing about is that you can set up scenes, for example if you are having a guest night you can have all of them set bright, and when it is movie time you press a button and they dim to your preset liking. I have mine set up to 1% dim on two of them and off on the other two to create a dark but not totally dark movie experience. All in all, it is pretty convenient and am thinking to add some more bulbs to lamps in the bedroom and livingroom.
That is where the good things end. Here comes the 'bad things'.
There is no way (haven't found it yet) to remote control the lights away from home. As your lights are on their own hue bridge / router, there is no way to tap into your home wifi from anywhere in the world and turn the lights on/ off or even see if they are turned on or off. This is where the WEMO switched do a much better job. there is a setting that detects when you are away from the lights via the cell phone app, to turn the lights off when you leave home and on when you return, but that part is pretty useless. Also, if you ever lose power or have a power surge, the lights turn on. So if you are away on vacation, your lights are on for the entire day. You can also set a preset program to turn the lights off at a certain time (mine are set to turn off at 1AM every day). But again, it would be nice to see if your lights are on or off. If they incorporate that, then it would be a much better experience. Also, unlike the WEMO which are actually wall switches, you have to leave your lights in the on position all the time. If you ever flick the switch by accident, your lights won't work. So it is best to use them for nightstand lamps in bedrooms and maybe living rooms. I wouldn't use them at point of entries where you need instant light, i.e. when entering your home. There, again, is where WEMO switches win, as you can operate them as normal on/off switches as well.
OVERALL: These are pretty nice to set the mood in your room as you can dim them. The dimming feature is what sold me on them, as I needed some dimming lights in my basement. Other than that, it depends how you want to control your lights. Do you want convenience of turning lights on./off from your couch and don't want to get a screwdriver? Then this is for you. Are you a bit more handy and have no problem turning off the power to the house and install wifi switches, for a bit more control on your lights (minus the dimming feature)? Then get the WEMO switches or WEMO plugs. You do get a bit more with this package (4 bulbs and a bridge for about $100), but you get more control with WEMO, although $100 will get you about 2 switches (they are almost $50 each). .

Easy to use and easy to set up. This kit contains the Hue's hub which connects to your Wifi via it's own application found in the App store or the Google store. The four bulbs that come with the kit allow you to experiment with the kit to determine if you like it and will consider expanding. I liked it, it's easy to set (all via the application) you can designate room where the bulbs are found, turn them on/off with Alexa or with the application. Also, the lights can be made brighter or dimmer via Alexa or the application.

I bought these on a great black Friday deal for $60. normally $100. to try them out , I have been watching these for a while now. They were very easy to set up to my home WiFi network & then link with my Amazon echo dots. Now that I have them set up I can just tell Alexa what to do with them, on & off & you can set the brightness from 10% to 100% all with a voice command! I am disabled & this is a big thing for me not having to get up off the couch or chair just to turn on a light. eg: Alexa turn all lights on , Alexa dimm front door light to 25% etc, I see myself getting more smart home products in the near future. In all a great deal on a great product & yes they are as bright as or brighter then a 60 watt bulb @ 100% & they only use 9 watts @ 100%! You do need home WiFi in your home to link them with the hub & you don't need an Echo , Google etc. device ,you can use your smart phone app to control them. They also work away from home , on timers etc. its almost endless what you can do with these bulbs. I only wish I would have bought them sooner!

So this kit was my first Hue lights purchase. They were easy to install but immediately the hub and bulbs each required an update which took a very long time (hours). It was kind of annoying that a brand new product required such an onerous update. I hope they don't need to be updated on a frequent basis. Installing the Hue app and getting basic functionality was fairly straightforward. Getting them set up with my Google Home mini was a bit more involved but eventually worked out. It required making an online account at meethue.com, giving the account access to my Hue components, and then giving Google access to the Hue account. I am somewhat concerned about having to give access to my network because of possible security vulnerabilities. I am considering moving all of my home automation stuff to a separate guest wifi network. I really wish Google Home could just access Hue locally and not have to go thru the internet. So having voice control over the lights throughout my house is very cool and works fine so far. If it continues to operate reliably and not require lots of maintenance, I may update this review to 5 stars. I chose to start with this basic white light starter kit because it was substantially cheaper than the color lights and really basic home lighting thru voice control was my first priority. The color lights look cool, but really they are kind of a novelty. If these basic white lights work out well, I will consider getting some of the fancier lights, when they go on sale!

I purchased these lights to go with amazon echo's. Pretty easy set up. They work great. I do not have dimmable light switches in my home so these work with no problems. It is nice to dim the lights just by telling it to do so. Pricey if you don't get the kit on sale. You do need to remember what you name each light if you do not make a group. Twice it did not connect to alexa when asked to......then it did.

I bought a set of lights for myself and wasn't sure how much I would use them. I came home late one night and loved how I could control them with my voice or phone before I got in the door. They respond quickly and I love the dimming feature finding the perfect lighting for every room. They were easy to set up with minimal effort, no ugly cords or devices and only a simple bridge (small white box) by my computer. This became our gift of the season giving everyone in our family a set. Several of our family members are older and live alone so they felt safer having the lights on when they came home and the ability to control them by voice. They make it safer to get up at night by installing one in the hall outside the bathroom and pleasant to have a dimming feature for the bedroom.

Blew my mind. Simple to set up and an absolute joy to have. I also have Google Home minis. These work fantastic together. I was unsure of the "smart home" approach. The anticipated hassle of the investment and time to figure what works well with certain products was my excuse for not getting into "smart home" products. I wish I took the risk earlier. Simple, convenient, saves time, and money. I have all my lights, TV's, music automated. I having young and energetic kids and this "smart home" thing has so many benefits and blessings I could go on for days with the reasons this would help. Start here with the lights and you'll get into the Chromecast, Nest and many other options. I find it well worth it.

Oh my goodness - this is wonderful! I could easily hook the lights up. I could go to bed and read a bit with 1, 2, 3, or all 4 ceiling fan lights on. Then just tell Alexa to shut the lights off and they are off. Got up this am when it was still dark and just told her to turn the lights on and they were On! Wish I had gotten these long ago. I'm sure I will regret just not springing for the color changing ones but I can only justify so much being spoiled! Guess I don't REALLY need pink lights!

I purchased this light starter kit on a black Friday sale to replace an old 1st generation bridge that was starting to fail. The new generation bridge was easy to set up with my smart phone & WiFi, I also was able to link it with my 2 Amazon echo dots with the alexa app! I am disabled & have a hard time getting around the house at times. Now with the Philips Hue set up I can turn the lights off & on , dim them from 10%-100% all without getting off the couch, chair, bed etc. Great product & at a great price & it has made my life a lot easier controlling the lights with just my voice. I would recommend these to anyone!

After years of contemplating I finally went ahead with this purchase thanks to a Best Buy daily deal. Easy to install, bright enough bulb and works flawlessly with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit. It also gets updated from time to time with new features and fixes. Would have preferred a wireless hub instead of wired. Still a 5 star product.

I purchased this for a relative around Black Friday because at the time it cost just about as much as the two bulb starter kit I purchased almost a year ago. Even just the dimming bulbs in a ceiling fan make a world of difference and being able to adjust everything from your phone while you lazily lounge about is just the way to go.
Add in the color and white ambiance bulbs and you have a million different options to really change the look of your place. Our boring white everything, cookie cutter apartment really comes alive with all the different configurations and colors and all the highlights and lowlights of different complementary colors interacting is just cool. The fact that its the most widely supported software wise means it will play nice with almost any other hardware or software you have and gives you the opportunity to do other cool things.
For example, I have my Hue lights synced with my Logitech Harmony universal remote hub so when I watch a movie, the hub turns on my TV, receiver, and bluray player, swtiches to all the right inputs, and then dims all of the Hue lights in the livingroom. Then when I turn off the TV, the lights come back up.
People may say there are practical uses such as light scheduling for security or whatever but they're just trying to justify their purchase which if it helps you sleep at night you can say the same but Hue is just a cool gimmick. There's no need to make excuses for it. If you've seen the pictures and videos of room setups with the Hue lights and all of the creative places to put them and you think its pretty awesome, then you'll enjoy them.
And this is a great way to get started since you'll need the hub UNLESS you opt for, or already own the latest and greatest Amazon Echo which has the hub functionality built in but I can only really recommend that if you already own it as its not cost effective.
But just a warning, when you make the plunge you'll be addicted and then all of your lights won't be good enough and you'll have to replace them all.

The bundle is much more affordable than buying the parts separately.
However, I still think this is an expensive product.
I am using it with my Google Home and Google Home Mini and it was very easy to install and setup.
It needs some getting used to (not to turn on and off manually), to use the app or voice commands, but once you do its great.
You can also set timers, schedules, and other methods of turning light on/off like:
I turn the entrance light on after sunset and the rest of the lights when I get home (if it is after sunset).recognized by Phone GPS.
If it was not so expensive I would get them for the whole house.
P.S. if you have a lamp that needs many light bulbs or that uses different light bulbs you can get the smart tap (I don't have it).

I was skeptical at first about getting the bulbs, just because you can just by a dimmer. But they were super easy to set up, hooked it up to my ipad and now I can control it just by simply telling siri to turn on or off the lights. Its especially useful for my 3yr old, who didn't like sleeping in the dark. I would recommend it to anyone! If you haven't purchased them yet, wait until black Friday, when they will go on sale again!!

We use these to automate our lights that kids tend to leave on..such as an upstairs hallway. Surprisingly, I was able to use just one light bulb to automate the light. Set up using Alexa with the Hue bridge was easy. The bulbs are brighter than I expected. You can get the color changing bulbs, but I replaced those with this set. These are also in the floor lamps by our reading chairs. So convenient to not fumble for a switch!!

Being my first foray into home automation, I wanted to make sure I bought a kit that was easy to setup and compatible with Apple's HomeKit.
Setup literally took 5 minutes. Put bulb in lamp, turn on lamp, plug in Hue bridge, connect ethernet cable to available port on router, download app and follow on-screen instructions.
If you would like to automate the lights in the home and do it quickly and easily, choose Hue!
