Many appreciate the simple setup and the ability to automate lighting schedules. However, some customers find the price to be a significant drawback, and a few have experienced issues with the app's functionality and the range of the bridge. Smart Lights for a Smart Home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I purchased the Hue bulbs a little over a year ago to outfit our entire apartment. It started with a few bulbs here and there and then exploded into every fixture in our home. Now we own a house and have Hue bulbs in every fixture except in the unfinished side of our basement and two overhead lights in our living room and bedroom. We have an Apple ecosystem in our home, so everything "smart" that we own is compatible with our Apple HomePod and Apple HomeKit. It's very convenient to turn on the geo fencing settings so that all of the lights turn off when the last person has left the home. It is also very easy to just pull out your phone and change the color (if you have the color ambiance bulbs) or the brightness of any bulb. Each bulb in our house has its own unique name, but with HomeKit you can set up rooms. So all you have to say is 'Hey Siri, turn on the (blank room) lights'. It's super convenient when you have arms full of groceries and need to turn the lights on, or have the geo fencing have the lights turn on as soon as you pull into the driveway. Hue bulbs have changed our lives drastically and slashed our electric bills by a TON. I will say that the ONLY downside to the smart lights is when the WiFi goes down. You have no ability to change the lights or even turn them on. I highly suggest purchasing a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) or battery back up for your WiFi system if you're concerned about any power outages.

Works well, but system has limitations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The system works well, setup is easy, I can control my lights via my iPhone and Alexa. But the Hue system is missing support for a hue dimmer that allows the dimming of "regular" lights. If want to control the lights in a chandelier you would have to install alot of Hue lights, why not use a Hue dimmer and control "dumb" lights? I think Philips is missing the boat here.

LightsAreGood....But
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The lights are good, and although there was a staggering lack of instructions, they're easy to install, connect to the router and download the app and software upgrades. But, the functionality of the app is questionable. I set up two "rooms" to far, the "Bedroom" (a spare bedroom) and "Outside". The "Bedroom", was setup to turn on at 10:00PM, and the "Outside" was set to turn on at sundown, and off at sunset. When I went through the whole process, and then I woke up to find both light still on. The rooms were also setup as individual rooms, and then as a routine. Can someone help, because the lack of instructions for this product is truly staggering. The website offers no help either. It is really surprising that not even basic instructions are written.

Pricey but very good. Apple HomeKit disappointing.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve only had the lights for a few days but wanted to share initial impressions especially for set up while it was still fresh in my head. I purchased a starter kit with 4 standard white bulbs, an additional 4 bulbs and 4 flood lights for outside. Initial set up was easy with HUE. I started with 4 inside lights. Apple HomeKit set up with my iPhone was a not intuitive but I got it done. The four interior lamps worked perfectly and I could control the with Siri. I downloaded the HUE app to see what it could do. It said there was a firmware update so I did it. Everything stopped working. Apple HomeKit wouldn’t recognize any of the bulbs. I had to reset the HUE hub to factory and delete everything from my iPhone and start from scratch. But HomeKit still didn’t work. What finally resolved it was downloading the CORRECT HUE app. I apparently was using a 3rd party app not the Phillips HUE app. Once I did that I was able to set the bulbs up quickly thru the HUE app. It was much more intuitive and quicker than using HomeKit. And it synced itself to HomeKit so I could use Siri. I would recommend starting with the HUE app and then adding it to HomeKit. The app is also more reliable then HomeKit. I installed 4 more bulbs in outside lanterns around the garage doors. HomeKit kept saying connection to the bulbs was lost. I finally fired up the HUE app to see if I could reset something but the bulbs worked perfectly from HUE. Still adamant about using my iPhone and Siri, I did some research to see if I needed a WiFi extender to help bring the exterior bulbs in range. Apparently the Phillips HUE devices do not actually use the WiFi. They use a technology called ZigBee. They act as repeaters themselves via “ZigBee” built into the devices. Learning this, I then installed the outside floodlights which were between the HUE hub and the garage lights. The connection to the garage lights improved dramatically. But HomeKit was still throwing an occasional error while the HUE app was working flawlessly. I purchased HUE wanting to strictly use my iPhone but the more I used Homekit and the HUE app, the HUE app proved to be more reliable and easier to use. If you're an Apple user, don’t be hardheaded like I was initially about not wanting to use the HUE app. It works great. Fortunately it’s the interior lights that are consistently working with Siri which are the one I use voice control with. The outside lights are on a schedule via the HUE app and turn off and on their own.

Best Lights
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.was thinking of getting these last year when me kids got sick (dogs) but instead i left a light on during the day. Sometimes i would leave in the morning and it was still dark or get home late and it was dark. i wish i would have bought these sooner one of the best purchases i have made and they work great. Very easy to setup and after doing research having a bridge for the lights is better than connecting individual lights to your WI FI. Can't wait to get more lights to connect to my Hue bridge. Thanks for a great product.

Love the lights
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the purchase, it takes time to adjust from not turning off the lights. Also the set up was a little confusing to set up each buld on the app between both apps Alexa and hue. Then again i am not tech savy. However, I figured it out & I love it.

Bridge won’t connect to internet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Philips hue starter kit on Thursday installed the lights, hooked up the bridge, and followed the instructions on the app to set it all up. By this point all is going well. I could control the lights from the app and from Siri on my iPhone. Ok so now it’s time to try to set up the hue bridge with the “out of home” feature. After many attempts it kept saying that now Philips hue bridge was not found on the network. After double checking and making sure that the bridge was connected to the router right, going into the router settings and making sure everything was set right, trying to contact Philips support several times with no luck, and then checking online forums for similar problems and solutions *which many people had the same issue*. I came to the conclusion that the bridge must be defective, today I took the starter kit back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new kit. When I got home I immediately hooked everything up again, went into the app and set everything up, but yet again I couldn’t connect it to the out of home feature. So I tried again to get in touch with Philips hue support. Finally I got through to someone, they asked me what kind of internet connection I have, I told them I have AT&T. They came back on the line and told me that their technical department said the bridge will not work with ANY SATELLITE OR CELLULAR INTERNET!!! No where on the box does it say that is an issue, but I now have a $100 useless system. I do not recommend this product to anybody that doesn’t wish to deal with days of headaches trying to make it work, and just to get told that it doesn’t support your internet provider or your equipment. It’s useless and a hassle all well just taking your money.

good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.my only complaint about this product is that I wish it supported wifi without ethernet. I have to put the hub always close to the router which at times could be annoying and limited, especially if you use a router with one port.
