I initially purchased the Philips Hue Starter Kit as a novelty/fun item to have. Then i started seeing the true value as I set the bulbs to different shades of white depending on the time of day or what I was doing at the time. Yellowish tint during the day. In the evening I set a whiter light for a sense of more energy. A low red tint while watching tv. I can set the lighting scene from my notifications area on my iPhone. Easy to set up. Easy to add more bulbs later on. My Amazon Echo can control the lighting thru verbal commands, though I haven't set it up yet.

These lights are amazing!!! I love that I can control them from anywhere. Changing the colors based on my mood is one of the things that I love best. Friends are always amazed when they see my lights.

I realise these are rather expensive and gimmicky at this point in their production, but they are fun - millions of combinations and colours, good strong design, and ease of use. The only downside is the app itself is, well, touchy, to say the least. It's crashes are annoying, but when it works, it's great. You can geo-fence your home, use pictures to alter light settings, and (not that you'd have this many), control up to 50 lights through the app. You can also get other people's colour combinations and download those. There's also a decent number of Hue related apps that allow for strolling and disco like effects that the Hue app doesn't. It's a fun product, but not a necessary one. Still, enjoyable!

I love this lighting system. Comes with 3 bulbs so is good for one bigger room or spread out in smaller rooms with single bulb fixtures. There are multiple apps available to run these from 3rd party developers besides the official app. The only negative is they can't be used in a circuit with a dimmer switch. (The bulbs dim on their own based on your preference, so this is just related to providing the correct power to the wifi receiver built in to each bulb.)

I really enjoy the lights, however I feel that these lights are way over priced. I stll bought them because I love gadgets. The Hue app itself could be a bit better. I like the fact thatt there are other apps for the lights. I have mine centered around the TV. I also have the light strips under the TV stand. The lights were easy to set up with the network connection. I can control them with my phone. Even with the high cost of the lights, it makes a big difference in the room. The more lights you add the better the ambiance.

I have waited about a month to write this review to ensure the smooth operation of the system and to give a more complete review. The installation was a breeze. Once you download the App and follow the simple instructions you are done. Nothing complicated. The choices of lighting options is impressive. Mood lighting and accent lighting is a breeze. I have installed this on both my Ipad and my phone and it works fine on both. I was even able to hook it up with my Amazon Echo to use voice control of the lights. New apps are added all the time. Great fun and great buy!

I received this as a gift, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it at first. However, I looked around and found a couple of 3rd party apps that do a nice job at creating interesting lighting effects. Then discovered that I could program these guys to turn on at a specific time each night, and gradually dim, then switch to a dim and dark shade of purple at bedtime. They lull me to sleep, and I love it! My biggest complaint is that the base station must be hard wired into the network- no wifi! Additionally, the range from base station to bulb isn't as strong as my home wifi network, so I had to move my airport express into the bedroom in order for the lights + base station to function in the bedroom.

I only have a few complaints about these lights. 1. The wifi range of the bulbs is somewhat limited. The "hub" that it comes with needs to be fairly close with little to no walls between them. My hub is currently about 30 feet away from the farthest bulb and only one wall between it. I had it at 45 feet away with 2 walls, and one bulb wouldn't connect. 2. I wish there were more colors available. There are many colors to choose from, but some just don't exist (dark green and a true blue). You can come close to a blue, but it's either a light sky blue or it turns more into a purple color. 3. Expensive. Yes, these are expensive. 4. You can't renumber the lights. You can rename them, but not renumber them. In the app, you select the light by number and drag it to what color you want. It's difficult to remember which number is which bulb, unless you unplug and move the bulbs around in a specific order. 5. They don't remember their color if you turn off the light switch. If you turn off the lights through the app, then turn them back on through the app, they remember their color, but I don't want to have to find the app, launch it, then turn the lights on that way. I want to just flip a switch. I figured the hub would have memory or even the lightbulb have some ROM in it that would allow it to remember what color it was on last. Too bad - this is my biggest complaint. Now for the good part. They work and work well. The main Philips app that you download is somewhat limited; however, there are plenty of other apps (iphone in my case) that seem to work nicely. The one I like the most is called Scintillator.

I have been collecting LED lighting for a few years in an effort to replace my existing lighting as much as possible with the best lights I could find. I have tried most all of Phillips' earlier LED lights as well as other manufacturers. I like variety, so I always had my eye out for a multicolor LED bulb that would work in standard fixtures while also providing a bright enough light to be actually useful. These bulbs produce similar to a 60W white bulb in lumens. On top of that I prefer the cooler colored lights in to 5500 kelvin range, giving a more pure light with less of the red found in incandescent lighting. These lights can reproduce the whole spectrum of "white" light, from the yellow ranged incandescent to the blue tinted higher ranged light. They can also create all the ranges of colored lighting as well as be dimmed. The wireless bridge controller does require a computer or a tablet/phone to operate the lights to their full ability. I had purchased a couple of weeks later the Hue Tap as a wireless light switch for use when I don't have a tablet handy to control the system. If you plan to combine this with the light strips, beware that the color tones are not the same since they use different LED technology the tint of the colors will not be identical to the bulbs.

I've used home automation products before and so far I'm happy with Hue. I find it responsive, even with my hub buried in the basement. The lights are really nice and present a nice glow. Having them for a few weeks, I'm noticing I'm not suing the color patterns much. I have lux lights and like them better than most regular lights, so will probably move forward with just using those and saving some money. I took off one star for price. The color bulbs are expensive and the lux are a few bucks more than other home automation lights. I use Cree lights as my secondary, they work well with the system.

I was hesitant at first when deciding if I wanted to spend the money on the starter kit or not, but once doing research and talking with friends I came to find out that these light bulbs will pay for themselves over time and electric companies like Duke Energy will actually reimburse you if you use them. It was a no brainer! Not to mention the multitude of ways you can use there lights and all the features offered through the app store!

I was just about to purchase some led ambient lighting when I saw these at best buy website. The day after I drove to the nearest store to check em out price was acceptable as they are wifi enabled tech. Saved up some entertainment budget money (didnt go out) and ordered them online picked up installed been working for three months straight. Took care of my ambient lighting when I need it and works are normal bulb produces nice colors.

These bulbs have been available for something like three years and haven't dropped from their sky-high price even a little, so it's hard to give them five stars. Having said that, there are a lot great things you can do with them if you take the time to set them up properly and sift through various third-party apps to find the controls you like best. My favorite use so far is the "alarm" we set for my toddler's room that comes on every weekday morning and slowly increases in intensity and changes color over about a 20-minute period to sort of ease him into getting out of bed.
