Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Hue White Ambiance A19 Wi-Fi Smart LED Bulb's brightness and ease of use, praising its adjustable brightness and simple app control. The bulb's compatibility with various smart home systems is also frequently highlighted, along with its straightforward setup process. However, some customers find the cost to be a significant drawback, and the need for a separate bridge is also a point of concern for a few.

I bought it thinking that how cool it would be to be able to turn lights on and off by saying to google home. little did I know you need a bridge to connect the light to the google home so whats the whole point. there are other lights that doesn't need such a thing.

I already had color lights and a light strip, but hadn’t seen a need for the white ambience lights. However I had a couple of floor lamps that really didn’t need color. These bulbs were perfect. Like all hues lights, setup was simple, quick and easy. Literally took less than a minute to get each bulb online. I have the bulbs on routines for mood lighting each evening. However what I really love is that these floor lamps are on switched outlets. Therefore, anytime I can turn the wall switch off and on and the lights come on at full brightness without even grabbing my phone. If I leave the wall switch on, the lights still cycle through their scheduled routines. While no color, the bulbs still have a wide range of shades, mulch more than just a regular dimming bulb. I would highly recommend these for anywhere that you don’t need color, but capsule utilize smart bulbs.

Too expensive to be so unreliable

After working for months, the home hub was no longer able to reach any of the bulbs. With no troubleshooting options in the app, I had to factory reset the hub in hopes of correcting the situation. The hub then refused to locate *any* of my lightbulbs, forcing me to get each bulb out of their sockets throughout the house, one at a time, to get the serial number and manually type it in. That was no guarantee the hub would find the light bulb. As I write this review I have multiple bulbs that I can no longer control. Philips Hue is supposed to be the premiere smart light solution. This is absolutely not my experience and will not look to them for future smart home improvements.

I have five of these bulbs installed in my home now, and generally like the idea, but they are a bit expensive. The only problem I have is that the hub keeps setting them to 50% brightness and a yellow color which I have never set them to and it gets frustrating! I also have a Google Home so I have to tell t to turn the brightness up and set the color. I have checked into the problem and found that it is isolated to the hub, not Google. Others have found the same problems also, so I hope an update will take care of the problem. It is kind of nice to be able to tell the lights to come on and turn off with my voice! I will be looking into some of the other sockets and bulbs to see what can be added to the system now that it is up and running. Overall, very happy with the fact that it always works, just a bit disappointed that I have to mess with it most of the time. I have IFTTT, so I may play with setting a program to set them to full power and bright colors each time.

These lights are a great addition to my home. I am really looking forward to getting more lights, sensors, and wireless switches to outfit my whole home with LED technology. I really hate replacing light bulbs, especially when they are supposed to last a few years and after a year they are dead. First off, they come with a nice 3 year warranty on parts and labor, but they are rated for 25,000 hours of use. For me that should be at least 10 years....maybe more. I purchased the bridge to go with these and that allows me to control them with my Alexa, google home, and Phone via the Hue App. I also purchased a wireless switch and put in on the wall in my kitchen where I really wanted my light switch to be at. For some reason the builder put the switch in the middle of the kitchen, which you usually want the switch to be near the entrance of the room. Well, the wireless switch solved that problem. The different modes the lights can produce are excellent. They are: Relax, Read, Concentrate, and Energize. They are yellowish to super white. You can also customize the shade of white to your liking as well. The initial set up with the app was pretty easy, but the updates that the lights needed out of the box did take a few hours. The app does tell you that so just be patient and let it do its thing. I can't wait to get more of these lights for my whole house.

First off, make sure you have a "Hub" to use these. Once you have that you can control many different bulbs thru the app. These bulbs go from dim to daylight bright with the touch of an app. The app allows you to control the bulbs and how they react. You can also use these with Alexa for easy voice control. Really cool item!

It's important to note that the bulbs require an additional purchase of the Philips HUE hub if you don't already have one. The hub is easy to set up using a smart phone. Once set up, the bulbs are very nice. I especially like that they have a dimmer function in the application, so the bulbs can serve as bright light source or a night light if you want a soft glow. The application also allows for the system to follow your schedule. I have it set to turn off the lights when I leave the home and turn on when I return. The return is set to only come on after dark. The features are very smart. I'd like to see if these will work outside. I live in a very cold part of the world, so I will need to see how they withstand the extreme temperatures. The bulbs are round and would also look nice in a vanity. I have become a fan of home components that I can control remotely and this is a great addition.

I’ve been a HUE user for a while, so I’m already equipped with a hub and multiple lights in and around my home. These white ambience lights are a big step up from the 1st generation bulbs I replaced, however. They really shine (pun intended, of course) when used as part of an automation routine. I have these set to slowly come on in my bedroom each early a.m. with a cool hue to aid in a more natural waking routine- and come evening do a fade out with a very warm color temperature to mimic sunset and help transition to bedtime. These have a wide color temp range, and more importantly, have a much smoother transition from off to dim to bright (and vice versa) than the previous bulbs. I know these bulbs, and this system, is not the cheapest option, but it is an area where you clearly get what you pay for. I know I can see the difference! (Ok sorry, I couldn’t resist one more).

I have previously bought a Phillips Hue starter kit that has the Hue bridge and 2 of the A19 white LED lamps, I also bought anther 2 white A19 thinking that its the same as white ambience. I loved the functions of the bridge especially that I was able to link it easily to both Google assistant, and an Alexa enabled device and I was able to setup schedules and control them (no one at my home cares to turn the lights off when they leave a room). but the regular Hue A19 was just a yellow LED light, so I bought the A19 Ambience because i prefer the blueish- white to the yellow one. the Ambience has many pre-set scenes for white color degree or warmness, and you can also create your own white warmness degree. I now have 3 rooms in my house completely powered by Hue, and I plan on adding more and switching the whole house to Hue.

The Hue Ambiance White adds the ability to change the color temperature of your lighting to suit you preference, comfort level, and mood! When paired with the Hue Hub, you are able to set up different scenes and settings with these lights. The most notable one is the "Go to sleep" and "Wake up" settings, these adjust the light gradually to assist in putting you to sleep and waking you up in a more natural way. Both of these function has left me more awake and alert, a huge benefit to have by just changing out the lights! They also integrate very nicely with Google Home/Assistant in offering a convenient way to bring lighting into you smart home!

I really like these bulbs. Fun technology. I use them in my porch lights and programmed them with the Hue App. to go on at dusk and off a few hours later. The only problem I have is the Hue App does not seem to turn the lights on to the shade of white I have programmed. Set up was easy enough. You do need the Hue Bridge and smart phone app. to set up the lights. You first link the bridge to your wifi network, then use the app to find and register the light bulbs. The app. is pretty user friendly but could use a little polishing up. I did expect the bulbs to be a little brighter, the reason for 4 star. A little pricey for me to use throughout the house at this point, but can see using more of these once the price comes down a bit.

    Simple 5000K capable WHITE bulbs

I'm a newly huge fan of the HUE system. I have a decent integration and quite a few bulbs, lights and Accessories (dimmer switch & motion detection) and I use IFTTT, Alexa and Google Assistant. These lights offer a nice color range -- from traditional "Soft White" (2700K) to a Daylight / blueish color (5000K). Setup was a snap with the Hue App - I added a 'new room', then I powered up one light at a time, (so I know which one I'm working with, as to not name them incorrectly), added them to the App and assign them to the newly created room. Once that was done, I just opened Alexa and scanned for Smart Home devices - and Unlinked / Linked Google to Hue (and reassigned EVERY bulb again) and that was it. Here's some Alexa Gold -- if you've ever have to re-configure your Alexa / Hue configuration, you'd have noticed that Alexa won't 'forget' the old stuff, like Google Home does. To fix that, go here: alexa.amazon.com and select Smart Home, Devices & Forget All. Then, a rescan will get everything clean from Hue. Like Google Home, without IFTTT, you aren't able to change these to a Scene -- say "Nightlight" as you'd see in the Hue App. You need to create a custom Applet in IFTTT with a trigger word like - "Nightlight Bathroom 4" - where it'd interact with IFTTT and HUE and subsequently change the scene to Nightlight in Bathroom 4. Or, if you muck with it too much & just want it back to the Hue scene "Bright" -- yep, another IFTTT Applet & off you go ... or use the App. Overall, if you want to use the App and that's it - perfect. If you want to use the 1984-style telescreen-esque devices like Alexa and/or Google Home, you have to change your ways a bit, or just go back to the App. Either way, 5 Stars here!

    Convenient and easy to control

I have a Philips Hue Bridge set up near the center of my one bedroom condo’s floorplan. Setup was fairly fast and intuitive using a Google Home Mini. Not so using an Amazon Alexa Bluetooth speaker @ someone else’s two story 2,500 SF house. Had to figure out extra steps and use Skills. Probably should have tried to find a video to aid me. Just so U know I bought a Starter Philips Hue kit from a local Best Buy. They sent me email to help me. Really like this follow up feature. Too bad I had already completed setups before getting the email. Love the convenience of being able to control the Philips Hue A19 white smart light bulbs using a Ultimate Ears - BLAST Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker with Amazon Alexa Voice Assistant. And I was able to add another person to Alexa for voice controls. Also used the Hue Smart Motion Sensor in my bedroom, over my computer nook and in the outdoor light fixture near my front door. Have the Philips Hue and Alexa apps installed on my Nexus 6 phone, for remote control of the bulbs when I’m not at home. Best home investment I’ve made this year. Recommend it highly for anyone interested in controlling their home lighting better.

The technology in these light are awesome. My favorite part is that you are able to change the color of the white. From a yellowish white all the way to a bright white. They are also energy efficient and outlast traditional light bulbs in life expectancy. The only downside to these lights is that you have to buy an additional hub in order to control them. Without the hub they still work as regular light bulbs but you cannot choose which color white they are.
