Yes, there are cheaper DIY Automation lights on the market. But how long will that company be here. If you've been following DIY Automation for the last few years you've seen a few companies come and go. Philips has been around awhile and they know lighting. The HUE line has been a lot of fun. With different scenes, being able to control just one light bulb on a switch that has multiple bulbs is great. Use a couple motion sensor coupled with different bulbs for nightlights. This way they're only on when they need to be at a brightness that I want. This style was purchased for use in a bathroom that I converted one of the 4 can lights on a single switch to use as a ceiling fan and would need to be on all the time. Solution: 1. Already had the hub 2. Three Hue retro fits 3. A Hue remote switch Install, program and several dollars cheaper than an electrician to run new wiring for the fan. 4. Create routines with Alexa 5. Happy wife Also have some colored bulbs, highly recommend getting some

I purchase four of these Downlights to replace 4 regular Dimmable LED Downlights in my living room. Primary reason for the switch was to have them work with Alexa, and be able to incorporate into my smart home routines. Setup and installation was fast and easy. Now I have voice control and routines set up to turn on when I enter my house after sunset. Yes they are dimmable, but I don’t understand the claim of 50,000 shades of white. Who can actually differentiate 50,000 shades of white? Anyway begin hue lights they are fully compatible with Alexa and SmartThings and I am satisfied with my purchase. Four Stars only since they are kind of expensive.

I was shocked how easy these downlights were to install into our bathroom recessed overhead light cans. Literally took 45 seconds. Like all Hue lights, to work you must already have a Hue Bridge and a Hue lightswitch. While I wish they would sell full spectrum colored light versions, I am amazed at how different qualities (cool vs. warm) of light are possible, and what a difference it can make. Bathroom now feels like a spa.

Totally surprised at how easy these were to install and setup on the Hue app! Everything you need comes in the box. Got these for my front porch as I hated not being able to change the brightness - well now I have several themes and variants to provide just the exact amount of light needed to fit my mood..lol These are all self contained and easy-peasy to install. Very high quality...extremely happy!

Since this lamp is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, I installed this over my front door. Since the light color may be adjusted from warm to cool white, I was able to tweak the color to the perfect color to show off my front entrance. I love the fact that I can adjust the dim level from my iPhone as I want (like when I receive an alert from my Ring Doorbell)

I prefer utilizing smart dimmers but I didn't want to get one just for our entry door recessed light. It was super easy to install and quick to link with my Echo. I love the fact we can dim the light and choose the shade white that we prefer, great price for a recessed light!

I bought 15 of them for the outside of my house and I love them. Easy to install and easy to pait with the hub base and phone. I need to get more because now I'm excited for them and addicted on how they make my house look.

I recently had 16 installed throughout my house. They perform great and are simple to use with the Amazon Echo and other devices. At $35 per device, they are reasonably priced to easily upgrade your home.

Have purchased three of these to retrofit the can lights in my 1950's home. Very easy to install and look great. Paired them with the Hue dimmer which makes them very functional. Excellent product.

Fit right into recessed light opening and I love the fact that it can be changed from warm (orange) glow to daylight (blue) and everything in between along with the dimming feature as well

I purchased 6 of these downlights for my basement remodel. They are easy to install into any recessed light housing and the build quality is very high. Adding them to my hue app was simple, although two of them required me to manually enter the serial number in order to add. The best feature of these lights is the ability to change the color temperature of the light. This is great in the basement where sometimes I want more of a daylight white when I'm working on something and other times require a softer white. I enjoy being able to set up scenes, such as turning off the lights over the TV in order to reduce glare or bringing all of the lights down low when I'm watching a movie. My only complaint on these lights is occasionally the hue app can be a little buggy, and the lights either get out of sync on color temperature or forget what they were set to when being power cycled.

Easy installation, great retro-fit. Works without any flaws. Easy to add to Hue light bulbs bridge. Works with Alexa and Google. Only wish they came with a multi-color option.

This is one of my favorite Hue lights - it is so easy to install and the price is reasonable. Going to buy more once it goes on sale.

These lights were easy to install and they look very nice flush against the ceiling. The color is a nice cool soft white which is so much easier on the eyes than a bright white. I had recessed flood lights before, over my couch, so it was uncomfortable to sit below them with the glare. These Philips Hue are much more comfortable and as money allows, I will replace the rest of my recessed lights with the these. They are not cheap that won't be easy. I think I paid $69 for the two.

I'm a big fan of these lights. A couple of things i've noticed: 1) Default settings aren't that bright. I freaked out at first. Use the pre set setting of 'Energized' as this will give you the bright setting you are looking for. 2) When installing them, open up the 3 clips as wide as possible and then make sure when you twist them into the cans, that they are tight. I had one that i didn't do tight enough and ended up coming loose and falling out. My bad and i've learnt since.
