Customers admire the hue BR-30 Starter Kit's ease of use, vibrant colors, and the ability to control the lights individually via smartphone app or other smart home systems. Many appreciate the straightforward setup process and the extensive compatibility with other home automation devices. However, some customers find the product expensive, and a few have reported experiencing a buzzing sound from the bulbs. The app's user-friendliness is also a point of positive feedback.

Easy to set-up and instill. Family has lots of fun changing the mood of the lighting for gaming, TV watching, reading or what ever activity we're doing. The APP is easy to understand and use. Planning on adding other types of lighting and accessories in the near future.

I was looking home automation. I downloaded app HUE Lights on iPhone. Configured to home network and added schedule. Light on at Dusk and off at Dawn. No more worries on turning on and off even away from home every day. I had to pay $5 for more than 3 lights.

Bright white light for standard use and endless options for colors. Expensive for whole home install but really no need. Set four 30 bulbs and three 19 bulbs up in a zone of a large great room and they give great effect.

We currently have three Hue bulbs in various recessed lighting spots upstairs. We also have a ton of windows without window treatments on our second story so every night it's a light show for the neighbors. It's something that just adds that extra cool factor to our home. I rolled my eyes when my husband bought them but now I love them and have fun changing all the bulbs to different colors every night. It's nice to be able to control the whole system from our smart phones.

This light is so cool can use your cellphone to control the lighting. That's not all it can be any color you want it to be. You can have a light show its sound activated it can switch due to special themes like thunderstorms Christmas tree wind there are so many different apps and I can go on forever you can get as many bulbs as you want and put them all over the house name each one and have a light show or use it for regular lighting. Lights to my Control

I really like the fact that I can control the lights to my home without having them on those plug in timers. I thought they were expensive and wouldn't be working with my lamps, but they work great and I am happy I used the expense.

Was pretty easy to set up and it works with various other services. Got it working with my Nest camera to automatically turn on the lights when it sees someone outside.

Hue starter kit is a good deal, but wait for now

The Phillips hue starter kit comes with 3 bulbs and a hub. The hub is the first generation hub though, and there is a new version out (squarish body). The new hub added HomeKit integration so it may be better for you to wait until the kit is released with the current generation hub. Overall, the hue is a solid stable performer but more expensive than other solutions on the market. I got the hue to control my supply of ge link bulbs (third party bulbs). I lost connection to these bulbs a week later and couldn't reconnect them, trying Phillips and GE customer support and all the resets and channel changes. Overall the hue is one of the better automation solutions on the market but the industry is young and there's plenty of room for improvement

Works as advertised you can control the light color and brightness easily using tablet/phone apps. Note that for really advanced control you may have to buy some apps such as Hue Disco, to sync lights with music (if that's your thing). The free app controls basic functions so not mandatory to buy any apps, just allows some more advanced functionality. Fun to play with and practical in my home theater application so you can control them with Logitec remote macro.
Note that I found the BR30 starter kit on sale for less than the price of 3 additional BR30 bulbs, so picked up 2 to get the needed number of bulbs for my application.

I honestly wasn't sure if I needed them ,but now that I'm not sure what I did without them. Setup is as easy as pushing one button on the bridge and geofencing ensures you never leave your lights on or come home to a dark house. I plan to buy more bulbs and eventually do most of my house

This was my first purchase of the Hue series. I love my Hue set, but here are a few things I wish I would have known/realized..
-The bridge is very easy to setup.
-The included lights are flood lights. Most likely will not fit in some lamps (you will need to purchase the smaller light bulbs for certain lamps.)

I love the color changing feature. It is pretty cool. However, I have issue with some bulbs buzzing. after some research I swapped out the dimming wall switch to a simple on and off switch which is suppose to solve the buzzing noise issue. it didn't solve it for 2 /3 bulbs. I move the affected bulbs around and the noise follows the bulbs. On the other hand, GE link lights do not have this issue, I have 8 of them.

The lights in my condo are located on the complete opposite end of where the switch is. I bought Philips Hue not only so I could control colors, which there are many apps for as well, but so that I also could turn the lights on and off with my tablet and phone, not having to walk to the opposite side of my place. It may be lazy but it removes that annoyance from when I lay down to go to bed and realize that those lights are still on. I just pick up my phone and click "All off" on the Hue widget.

Philips Hue - creating the smart home

I bought 13 bulbs over a two month period. I want to control the time on and off of individual bulbs, bulbs by room, and whole house. Brightness and color are also choices. Settings are retained in scenes in the Philips Hue app. It does what is claimed, and does it with less carbon footprint than traditional bulbs. They add new life to old lighting.
