I put it behind my TV. The only thing is if you cut it you cannot use the other half that you cut off from the power source so you essentially waste the light strip of you cut it.

If using a computer and connect to TV/Monitor. Can download a Phillips hue app that can control the lights in sync with TV screens to enjoy changing colors with movies or shows. Love It!

Philips - Hue Lightstrip Plus Dimmable LED

And not in a good way. Many review says adhesive SUCKS. And that's the best way I can put it. This crap couldn't hold a dead gnat in place. Which is not THAT big of a deal if you're installing it on a wooden surface (just buy some of those light strip holders that you screw in). There are comparable smart light strips that are half the price, offer way longer lengths and MUCH better adhesive backing. Avoid this junk at all costs.

Mood Lighting

They serve no real purpose to me other than ambience and mood lighting. I use an app feature (Lava Lamp) which changes the color. This gives great effect to my television and sitting environment. The flexibility and adhesive allows the strips to be placed anywhere you want. But, each strip does require it's own power outlet.
