In my opinion Philips makes some of the best to be had smart lighting for your home. Bar none. I’ve been using smart lights from them for well over six years now and I love them. I’ve been using smart home cameras from a few different brands for about just as long. So I was happy to see both smart lighting and a camera system in one device from a company I love. First the good. The flood light gets plenty bright. Bright enough to light a fairly good sized potion of my front yard. A nice bonus is that like a lot of other smart lights from Philips I can set the color to just about anything which means if I have guests over and we are in the front yard I can set the color to match the event. Or I can set it to be a non-annoying color for the middle of the light. Image quality from the camera is above average. Whether using the flood light or not the picture comes in clear. The downside, if you can call it that, is that you can only use the camera via the Hues app. There is no HomeKit support built in like my other cameras in my home. This means I can’t bring up on my living room TV via my AppleTV. Philips say that it’s coming sometime, just not yet. There are a couple of subscription plans you can sign up for to provide greater functionality and features but it is another monthly subscription you pay for. There are several features without a subscription but if you wish to keep some videos long term you pay for it. Another reason to home for full HomeKit integration. Now setup is an entirely different story. If you are comfortable working with electrical installation you are ready to go. If you are like me and don’t feel like possibly lights yourself up then you’ll need to work with a professional electrician so keep that in mind with the kit. Overall this setup lives up to basic expectations for a camera or a flood light but be prepared for some limitations if you want more.

The Philips Hue Floodlight and Camera struck my fancy as I was looking to replace an existing floodlight that was installed when we got out house. I have a few Phillips hue lights from indoor recessed lighting to their outdoor wall light, so I know they get really bright and have a bunch of options depending on how you'd like to light the area. In the box was the Floodlight, Camera plus some manuals and installation guides. The camera is magnetically attached to the stand and gets power from a cable attached to the light fixture. The Floodlight is attached the housing with some adjustability, and allen wrench is included for adjustment. Installation was fairly simple, there is a screw on the top and bottom of the fixture, when they're removed, you can remove the back portion which is what you'd mount. The circular mount is in the middle of the back plate which you would screw in to your gangbox. The main portion of the fixture with the light attached has a ground, plus a black and white wire. There is a ground screw on the mount which you will attached your ground to, then I tied that in to the ground from my wiring. I the simply connected the black and white wires to their respected match from my electrical wire. (I had turned off the power at the breaker before I removed the previous floodlight and installed the Hue Floodlight). I didn't find any wire connectors in the box so be sure to have your own on hand. Since I already have a few Hue lights in the house, I was able to open my Phillips Hue app and setup the floodlight in my devices. It was fairly straight forward, I simply needed to set a name, location and pick a default color for the light. The camera does get set up separately and you will need to scan the QR code during setup that is included in the box. Setup was pretty straight forward, it also wants to setup to arm the device for Home and Away statuses. I didn't really want that as it's in back, but I did set it up to trigger lights when motion is detected. I really like the light, my backyard is an okay size and the Hue Floodlight lights up the whole space without really bleeding over in to the neighbors side. The color options with the Hue lights is awesome! You can easily set it up to a theme based on the season or event if having a party. The camera has really good coverage also, not certain of the exact degree but it's covers a wide angle from where it's pointed. The camera gets added to the Security section of the app, which is right at the top. In there you can control the Armed status and view your cameras. I typically check my cameras in the Google Home app, which I can add the Floodlight to easily, the camera though is showing up as a light so I am not able to see it in the app. I am not sure if the camera isn't compatible with the Google Home app, or if I may need to do something for the app to see it properly, but I haven't had any luck yet. Overall I love the floodlight, if I can't get it to pair well I may be more on the fence to switch to a Hue Floodlight (as I want to keep adding Hue lights to my place) and another brand camera to support my Home app. If it does end up working, then I am a happy camper and this would easily move up to a 5 star product for me as it would fit the needs of the space!

Philips is trying their hand at everything. While they do bring the craftsmanship and build quality that I love and expect of a Philips product, I think there are some things lacking in this product which is something to consider especially at this price point. I believe that this is their first iteration of a floodlight camera and foray into security so there is definitely room to grow. Right out of the gate, one thing that I can guarantee reviews will mention is the need for a Hue Bridge. It is a separate device, almost like a hub of sorts, that helps you control the light. This was unfortunate and to me seems completely unnecessary. Everyone is trying to jump on the "smart" device game and coming up with their own hubs and controls which I think will eventually get to a breaking point. I did end up getting a bridge to actually control the lights. The quality of the light is there. It gets very bright. A nice feature is also being able to control the color of the light. One huge negative for me was the lack of motion detected light activation. I thought a key use of floodlights are to act as deterrents in response to intruders especially if advertising as part of a security system. That being said, the camera quality is great. Images were crisp. All in all, I think the foundation is there for Philips to create a great product.

When I was offered the opportunity to test and review the Philips - Hue Outdoor Floodlight Camera, I quickly jumped at the chance. I already had another brand of security flood light mounted to the front of my house, but that brand switched cloud service providers and the quality went downhill etc... So the Philips Hue camera was delivered, and I quickly unboxed it, reviewd the install and set up instructions, and then I removed the Brand S security flood light, and installed the hue. 1st observation is that it is very well built. The case is metal, and it's well designed and easy to install and make adjustments. As soon as I turned on the ckt breaker the light powered on, and it was super easy to set up using the Hue app found online. However once installed and connected to my phone and the Wi-Fi, I tried to set the recording sensitivity, which shows as being possible in the app, but it turns out that's an advanced feature, only available with a subscription. Ok fine... I don't plan on subscribing to a security plan, as I already have another security system that works just fine and doesn't require a subscription. So.. I decide to just adjust the camera where it's ponting to the area I want to monitor, and I'll adjust it again if needed if it picks up to many false events etc... then I find out that it doesn't record any events either... once again it requires a subscription for that feature to work... Basically the only feature on the camera that works for free is the live view, and the intercom/microphone/speaker etc... So, onto adjusting the light settings... I check the application and there aren't any settings for changing the color of the light. There is a setting for adjusting the sensitivity for triggering the flood light, and a time duration for how long the light can stay on, but neither of those features would work on my light. It just stays on 24/7... it hasn't turned off even once since I installed it... every bug in the neighborhood now hangs out on my porch... So I turn to the internet to see what I must have done wrong.... Nothing it turns out... in order to get the lighting features to work I now have to go out and purchase a $60 hub interface called the Hue Bridge to be able to change the light settings. Well I didn't buy the hub, because I'm not going to keep using this light. My plan is to replace one of my other outdoor lights in the back yard and just use a switch to turn it on and off. As much as this light cost, it should come with the hub if needed, and all the features should be included without requiring a subscription plan. Also the light portion of this floodlight is kinda ugly, it's kind of tacky looking. Overall It's pricy, not very classy, doesn't come with everything needed to make it work, and will stop working correctly once the included trial period runs out unless you pay for a subscription. I rate it at 2 stars due to it's high quality of construction and ease of installation and adjustments. The light is very bright as well. If you don't mind paying a monthly fee, and you also don't mind buying the hub controller to unlock the extra adjustments and features, then this light would be a good choice, but if not then I wouldn't recommend it.

As floodlights and security cameras go, this entry by Philips falls somewhere just above the middle of the pack. First, it should be noted that to reap the full benefits of this device you must have a Hue bridge. This isn’t necessarily clearly advertised, which I think Philips could do a much better job of clarifying. You will need to factor the additional cost into your cost / benefit analysis if you do not currently have a bridge. The installation is not difficult, if you have some electrical knowledge. This is not a battery powered device, you must tie into your current electrical system. The included instructions fall well short of being helpful for a novice. Another area of improvement for Philips to consider. While I’m not really sure why you would want soft colors on a security camera’s floodlight, it is there if you want it. Personally I prefer to use the brightness of a pure white light for the best security. On the positive side, this is a decently bright light and the sensor functions very well. The camera provides clear visuals and is easy to adjust. Nothing that makes it a clear winner from other security cameras on the market, but if you are in the Philips ecosystem this camera will certainly get the job done. Would I recommend? I would with some caveats. There are more robust systems that are easier to install and provide an overall more robust ecosystem. Meaning, from the security side there are more products to combine into a powerful protective group. Those with other Philips systems may find this a decent addition, especially if looking to provide an additional layer of security to one particular area.

I currently use Ring doorbells and floodlights outside my house and all Hue lighting products inside my house. Because I already have the Hue app, I was looking to give the outdoor light a try primarily because some of my neighbors have colored lights outside, and they look cool. First thing I noticed when I went to swap one of my Ring floodlights with this Hue light was the quality of the product. The bracket is well thought out and easy to install and the light itself feels like a durable and premium piece of hardware. My Hue app found the camera right away because I already have a Hue Bridge. You will need one in order for this camera to work. I was looking at my driveway after the hardware updated. So far, so good. Unfortunately, there is a subscription required to use the camera to its fullest. No recording clips and no setting motion zones. You only get live alerts and alarms. The fee, per camera, is $40 a year. $100 a year gets you access to up to 10 cameras. The colored light is what I came for, and this unit didn’t disappoint. The colors are vibrant and bright. It makes my house look really cool. I could see myself slowly replacing my Ring cams with these because of the colored light, but I’d wait for a sale.

Newest addition to my Hue ecosystem

I was looking to replace the outdoor light in my backyard and saw that the Philips Hue Floodlight Camera was on sale. I already have 39 other Philips Hue bulbs (to include several "regular" A19 bulbs, an Econic Outdoor Wall Light for the front door, eight BR30 bulbs for recessed lighting, five candelabra smartbulbs for the dining room, a Hue Go, and multiple light bars) as well as Philip HUe dimmer switches, so I am familiar with the Hue ecosystem. I already have a Hue Bridge and the app installed so setting everything up was easy. I've installed outdoor lights before (most recently the Hue Econic Outdoor Light for my front door last year) so installation was simple. The light, housing, and camera are of excellent quality. I installed the floodlight in my backyard by the sliding door leading outside under my deck, so it is somewhat protected by the elements. I haven't signed up for the Secure plan yet, as I am unsure I need it. I live in a safer area, and didn't really need a camera in the back, but I have wanted to replace the light. When I saw the Hue Outdoor Floodlight Camera on sale, it was a no-brainer to expand my Hue ecosystem. The camera was just a value add for me.

    Floodlight + Camera = Magic

We had a plain white floodlight at our home which had stopped working, isn't on any switch we could find (still no idea where it was wired to), and needed to be replaced. I had set up a wire-free, battery powered (4 x 18650 button top) camera on that corner of the house (well there were a camera on each corner of the house when done) that had a solar panel connected to it (and so one on each of the cameras) but I was really wanting to get the flood light fixed. Funny enough we had just started talking about doing so when I got the chance to get this Philips Hue Outdoor Floodlight Camera and so as soon as I saw it I jumped at the opportunity to do so. Since our then current floodlight was inoperable & had no working switch connected to it I decided to hire and electrician to come to our home to install this new floodlight. It cost me a few hundred dollars once it was all said and done but we now have a fully working floodlight & camera all-in-one and so I was able to reposition the camera that was on that corner elsewhere to watch our shed where all our lawn care equipment & all my car parts, car tools & car cleaning supplies are. Super happy camper with this device. Our other cameras are 4K and while they are indeed good I honestly cannot say that this one looks worse, it has a really great quality camera even with it only being 1080p and meshes well with the rest of our system. All-in-all we are extremely happy with our Philips Hue Outdoor Floodlight + Camera setup and I am extremely happy that we were able to get that side of the house light up very nicely. I love it so much that at my mother's house she is needing a new floodlight and I am going to talk her into letting me get her one of these to put up at her home. Luckily hers already has all the wiring being 100% operational and so it will not cost us anything except the price of the device. Whether you have a floodlight already or you need one installed, you cannot go wrong with this device because of the quality of the camera & the lighting output from the floodlight. Everything is great & perfect! Thank you Philips!

I really wanted to love this floodlight. I loved the thought of being able to change the colors and the integration of the security camera. Out of the box it feels very well made. Very sturdy, heavy and clean looking. The actual light itself can be turned and adjusted to face whatever direction you want it to, and it has a built-in siren as well. One thing I'd overlooked was that it isn't wireless, and that it actually needs to be wired to the house in place of or in addition to my regular porch light. Having never installed anything like this on my own, I had to pay someone to come and assist with that, as my Landlord didn't have the skills to install it either. That said, the electrician had a very easy time installing it, but unfortunately, due to some kind of short in the wiring, the darned thing would turn off and on! For the time that I could actually test the features, the camera looks amazing. Very clear picture in the middle of the night, although the sound was a bit fuzzy - I attribute this to the fact that I live right next to the freeway. I don't think that issue is related to the unit itself. It definitely puts out a lot of light, the comparison to my old porch flood light is like night and day! I can see the whole yard. You do need a subscription to utilize all of the features, and it would be great if I could set it to turn off and on at certain times. For basic home security and great lighting, though, this is a good option. I'm going to look more into the full system!
