Had the original sync box, but was always bothered by the loss connection that would happen often. Watching a movie or show could be tolerated but annoying having the screen go black for a second or two. But playing a game was too frustrating to use the sync box that I would just plug directly into the tv. But with the release of the 8k box blank screen is almost all but gone. The only time I have noticed it in the past few weeks is when watching something on you tube when a commercial pops up the screen goes black. Must be a format thing, taking a second to switch resolution/ hdr and such. But playing on my PS5 and Xbox have had no trouble at all. Wasn’t thrilled buying a whole new box, but happy to finally experience lighting without syncing issues.

I held out for this one due to the fact that the first model had a lot of complaints. I was worried it would become a hassle and need rebooted and etc. It’s been working rather well. The sort of tech you enjoy and eventually sort of forget about it because it just works and stays out of the way. It’s crazy expensive. I know there are cheaper choices out there. If you already have a hue bridge and the lights, it feels less expensive. But it’s definitely expensive. But it also just works and the setup was pretty easy

So glad the updated 2.1 hdmi sync box is here! Had been using the slow buggy Phillips hue app subscription from my Samsung S95C TV For syncing my content and video game consoles in 4k 120hz. I also owned the last 4k Philips sync box FYI. Set this 8K 2.1 box up in less than 5 minutes, and it is a night and day difference from last 4K 2.0 sync box. Automatic syncing turns on lightning quick and lights also move fast and keep up with my PS5 PRO 4K 120 fps games! Couldn’t be happier! Expensive investment but is future proof! Highly recommend you pick this up before they sell out.

This was a great purchase. I have no regrets it changes every movie and video game that I played and it feels like you’re immersed in the show. It’s great.

I upgraded from the 4k box to the 8k box and it was well worth the upgrade. It works smoothly and supports full HDMI 2.1 features such as 4k 120hz, VRR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDCP, etc. It is still capped at 10 syncable lights at a time though. Be careful ordering open box/used on Best Buy. My first sync box I ordered, I got scammed and a 4k sync box was in the box. I returned and bought a brand new one but this was the second time I have gotten scammed with old tech items in new boxes from Best Buy.

I’ve used Phillips Hue play for years and I couldn’t imagine watching movies or music videos any other way. It adds so much impact to what you’re watching. And if all your lightbulbs in your room are Phillips Hue, it surrounds and immerses you in whatever you’re watching. It’s not cheap, but you are also getting an 8k HDMI switcher that allows you to add all your gaming and streaming devices with smart features like auto switching or voice commands.

This product works great. It gets rid of the hiccups that you may have with the black screen for two seconds with the old sync box. It just does not happen with this item.

Works great when it works.
Upgraded to new router, had to make separate guest non wifi 7 network just to be able to connect. Should have option to be able to use network cable.
New "bug fixing" firmware update broke auto light syncing when connected to second output of av receiver (2.5.0 work flawlessly). Now have to go into app and start manually.

This is an excellent product if you really want a fully immersive entertainment experience. The cost of entry may be a bit high when you factor in the sync lights, the hue bridge, and the sync box but it really is cool when it's all together and you get a great cinematic experience. I'd mostly use for games or movies or when playing music in the living room. Imo it can be worth the price and effort to put it all together for that dazzling cinematic experience.

Great product, but yes it's expensive. I selected it because I have a lot of Hue lights in our house. I was expecting there to be glitches and bugs as it is electronics and another set of variables for everything to work together. So far it has been very easy and works great. Setting up the positioning of the lights to match the screen is a bit finicky, but once set it works great.

From gaming, to watching movies, to playing ambient graphics during get together, the Hue sync box is a good value and can bring your entertainment room to life!

Finally, with support for 4k@120, the next generation of Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box is here to delight owners of modern consoles/graphics cards in computers, and further enhance your home theatre with ease. Latency of color changes is acceptable in normal and intense mode, but I do wish this would share a power adapter with say, the play gradient strip or play light bars, as these power bricks in the Hue ecosystem are massive.

Works as intended. Works with PS5 with VRR. Do have issues on occasion where signal drops and I lose video. There is also a relatively long wait time for the TV (Sony A95K 65") to recover the signal from the box. But when it works, it works. And what it does, it does well.

This latest box from Hue finally fixes the tug of war sync problem with newer apple TVs. Only removing one star for the fact that Hie was aware the last gen product had issues, and provided no upgrade path or discount for existing owners who have been complaining for years about Apple TV compatibility.

Overall its a great buy. Yes irs pricey, but i love all the phillips hue line. Only downside is it doesnt work with your smart tv internal apps.. i had to use it with my apple tv hub to get the experience.

Still new and i have only just started using it. But so far it seems to be just a little bit faster than the gen 1 unfortunately I have not been able tontest performance from my ps5 for gaming just yet but i am expecting it to be better than the gen 1 and get the 120hz to my tv.
