I tried the first generation of this product and it wasn’t good. Couldn’t get it to connect and work with my TV. This new one was fast and easy to connect. Works great! The Hue app has a single tab for “sync” which makes it easy to use. So far so good!

Fixed all the issues the sync box v1 had. Bought this so I could pass Dolby vision without issues from my blu ray player and have my Xbox perform at 120hz at 4k. It has better WiFi connectivity as well

Love the the immersion this provides by matching your lights to a movie or game you're playing! And with this sync box you can use with the modern day gaming consoles because and will work seamlessly

I wanted to love this device, but after weeks of frustration, I’m officially done trying to make it work.
I recently went all out on my home theater upgrade. I have a Sony A95L OLED, a Sony 3000ES receiver, the latest-gen Apple TV, Panasonic UB820, Xbox Series X, and PS5 — all connected with high-quality AudioQuest HDMI cables. Everything in my chain supports the latest standards (4K 120Hz, Dolby Vision, VRR), and everything works perfectly together… until I introduce the Hue Sync Box 8K.
At first, setup seemed fine. It worked just like my older Sync Box (which I’ve since moved to another room), but now I could finally enjoy 4K 120Hz gaming with my Hue lights. That excitement didn’t last.
One night, my Xbox suddenly stopped displaying an image — just a black screen. The other devices still worked, so I brushed it off. Later that evening, I tried my Apple TV. No video, only the UI “click” sounds. The PS5? Same story: audio but no picture. The only way to fix it was a hard reset. And even that is a mess — the reset process is inconsistent and takes 30–40 minutes of trial and error to get the box working again.
After finally getting things running, I thought maybe it was a one-off. But a couple days later: same issue. No image, no stability. Another hard reset.
The final straw came today. I turned on my Apple TV to watch Alien Earth and immediately noticed the picture looked wrong. Checked the settings — Dolby Vision had completely disabled itself. Apple TV claimed my display no longer supported it. I checked my Xbox — same result. The Sync Box had essentially crippled my setup’s capabilities.
I pulled the Hue Sync Box out of the chain and, surprise: everything instantly worked again. 4K 120Hz, Dolby Vision, VRR — flawless. Which tells me this isn’t my TV, receiver, or sources. The Sync Box is the weak link.
For a device that costs this much and is supposed to complement high-end equipment, this experience is unacceptable. Constant resets, random failures, and outright breaking Dolby Vision support? No thanks.
The old Sync Box worked fine. This 8K model feels rushed, unstable, and simply not ready for prime time. If you’re thinking about upgrading — don’t. Stick with the old box, or skip it entirely until Philips sort this mess out.

The 8K Philips Hue Sync Box is pretty much an improvement all around vs the 1st gen unit. The 8K sync box works just as seemlesly as it’s predecessor, and of course now has the ability to sync @ 4K/120hz. Cost as always is higher than we’d all like (it is after all a Phillips Hue product), but it does deliver on its specs. If you already have Hue lights and/or are upgrading from gen 1 like me I would definitely recommend. If your starting from square one there are more economical options out there…but you of course you do get what you pay for.

Had the prior sync box which had issues with some resolutions and playback formats causing the tv not to display content. this sync box works great, no issues on any resolution, and love the colors and lights.

This is definitely an upgrade from the previous version. The last one I had would frequently lose connection from my amplifier, which handles both audio and video. This version works so much better with my amplifier. It’s extremely responsive to what’s going on the screen and makes movie watching very fun.

Works great until you try to use your xbox series x on 120hz. I literally have an 8k HDMI cable made for the speed and what not but it glitches out and doesn't work in 120hz through the hue sync.

Works great. This adds a whole new dimension to the movie-viewing experience. Though it is on the pricy side, it does seemlessly integrate with all other Hue products as expected.

Works well with my setup. Only complaint I have is the price. Been happy with the source switching options as well. Only complaint I have is the price obviously =)

Glad to see HDMI 2.1 support. Given though, this only is needed on TV's that support this feature, it may not be a necessary upgrade over the 1st gen unit.

Absolutely love it. It works so much better than the old 4K version. I had issues with the old one on a 4k setup and the picture would occasionally drop out. That issue is long gone now.
