I recently upgraded to the Phillips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K, replacing my older 4K version, and I am beyond impressed! The improvement in both performance and visual effects is remarkable. The 8K version provides smooth sync with my TV and HUE lights. The added support for 8K makes it so I can use my gaming systems with the 120hz and VRR LLM.
Setting it up was a breeze-just plug in your devices, follow the easy steps on the app. The bulid qulity is solid and its a sleek addition to my entertainment setup. the only thing I dont like is the price. It adds up with the light strip and the bridge.

You’ll want to fill your room up with lights. I’ve been waiting for this version for a while, and I love it. It pairs nicely with my setup, and I kind of also like having an HDMI switch that’s also smart and controlled via phone.
The one star was taken away because I’ve noticed some lag here and there between the lights and image or the image and external audio going through the box. The app also isn’t great. Kind of clunky and confusing with less customization than I’d like.

This box works very well as is compatible with all current features of hdmi 2.1. It loses a star because of its price for what it is and I have to turn off vrr features on my tv when I want to use Dolby Vision. For some reason it will not work with these features enable on my Sony tv. It’s a minor inconvenience but should be fixed.

Hard to Set Up - Gave Me a Headache

I love my Hue smart home set up. I have Hue lights all over the house and on the back of TVS. I mention this so you know I am familiar with the Hue Set-Up. This Phillips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K was NOT easy to set up. I set it up using my Hue App. I finally thought it was set up (It said it was) but my movies had no sound. The sound just went away. I double checked my TV and Surround System and all was good. Unhooked the Sync Box and my sound was back. I tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. I finally started everything all over again. Nothing worked. I checked the reviews on this product from other users and found that some had to replace the HDMI cord. Tried that and finally. got it to work. Took 2 days! Now my sound and lights work. The problem is the flickering lights are giving me a headache. So I am not using this on my TV that we watch movies on. I really wanted this to work. I have wanted it for a long time but It is not worth a headache.
Hooked up the Sync Box on another TV for gaming using the new HDMI cord I bought and it works great for gaming, Doesn't seem to give anyone else a headache. I added a photo of the HUE lights I used on the back of the TV. The teenage Grandkids love it!!

I recently got the Philips Hue Sync Box 8K, and overall, it’s been a great addition to my setup. The lighting syncs beautifully with the screen, creating a super immersive experience whether I’m watching movies or gaming. The 8K support future-proofs the setup, and everything looks and feels premium.
The only downside is the input switching — it can only be done through the app on your phone, which isn’t always convenient. It would’ve been great to have a remote or physical button for quick changes.
Aside from that, the performance and visual impact are excellent. If you’re already in the Hue ecosystem, it’s definitely worth it.

The problem with the last version of Sync box was that it only supported HDMI 2.0, not 2.1. Because of this, 4K 60fps was supported, but not 4K 120fps or 4:4:4 chroma. This fixes all of those issues, and has pass through so any Dolby Vision or 4K120 devices (PS5, Apple TV 4K 3.0) will work flawlessly.
You’re able to sync everything fairly easily in the Hue app, though I wish there was a more seamless way to switch between devices (maybe better integration with Apple HomeKit).
The nice thing about these devices too is that they give you 3 more total HDMI ports per device. It seems expensive, but having just one setup hooked up to your tv really does make a world of difference!

Works really well, I mean really well. Lag is so slight and adjusts between movies and music very effectively through the HuE app. It's just too expensive, certainly a luxury item.

Easy to set up, no loss of features. VRR, ALLM, and HDMI switching all work as expected! Currently enjoying 144Hz. The only thing that doesn’t work, is when all devices are off, and you send the “on” command through the TV, through the sync box, and to the HDMI device to wake it up, it doesn’t work. Still 5 star review, it’s an amazing product

New 8K Sync Box solves all old Sync Box issues

I had the original Hue Play Sync Box and it really did enhance my theatre space. However, the lack of HDMI 2.1 meant that I couldn't fully utilize my TV/Consoles and it gave my Sonos system all sorts of fits. Moreover, the box died after a couple years.
This new Sync Box solves all of those issues. Setup was easy and, while only been a week, I have had zero issues with the entire system. Its a niche product and quite expensive, but I am glad I made the investment.

This box enables the light strip to sync with the TV, creating a light spectacle while you're enjoying your favorite content! Depending on what/how you use it, you may need to pay a small monthly subscription to have standard television screens sync with the lightstrip.

Works exactly as expected, although the price is quite expensive. My only hope in the future is Philips stays more on the ball with the evolving television market. As great as this product is, it is years behind the curve as 4/8K, VRR and 120mhz have been around for quite some time now.

Replaced a 4K HDMI sync box - it took Phillips this revision to get the sync box right -- works like a charm vs. the 4K version which would drop the connecton to lights etc... too costly though but once you are in the philips hue eco-system you need to be committed.

Fantastic! Having way less issues with this box than the older box. Everything worked straight out of the box as soon as I added it to my Bridge. The one thing I really wish it had was an ethernet port. It makes more sense to place an ethernet port in the sync box than it does the bridge. Either way glad to finally have an HDMI 2.1 sync box.

The box finally has hdmi 2.1. If you ever used the previous version you’ll know the story: when it works it works. The single largest issue with this is the app. It is inconsistent at best. It often struggles to connect with the box and is stuck forever on “connecting” meaning that you can’t issue any commands or start any functions. They used to have a separate hue sync app and that one worked somewhat decently but also had the same issues. I just wish Philips just included a remote and had hard button commands. App is terrible.

Fantastic. Absolutely elevates the watching experience of everything you watch. Everything works perfectly. The quality isnt diminished at all. The only downside is you still have to buy the lights separately and you have to run everything through the HDMI. You can't use smart TV apps.

Hue Sync Box 8K Review

The Hue Sync Box 8K is an excellent addition for creating an immersive lighting experience that enhances movies, games, and music. The ability to synchronize with an 8K HDMI setup is a big win for those with high-end systems, and the vivid lighting effects elevate the overall entertainment atmosphere.
That said, the device isn’t without its quirks. I noticed a slight delay when the box was placed farther away from the light strip, but moving it closer resolved the issue. It would be great if the device had a stronger signal or better range to prevent this inconvenience.
Overall, it works great most of the time and delivers a stunning visual experience. A few tweaks could make it flawless, but it’s still a worthwhile purchase for Hue ecosystem users.

It’s exactly what you want it to be. It’s perfect when it works, and it’s stunning for every instance you imagined, “My lights would look great here”. However, output died on me 2 months after. Have the best Best Buy who took care of the exchange. Would recommend, when works.

Had the original sync box, but was always bothered by the loss connection that would happen often. Watching a movie or show could be tolerated but annoying having the screen go black for a second or two. But playing a game was too frustrating to use the sync box that I would just plug directly into the tv. But with the release of the 8k box blank screen is almost all but gone. The only time I have noticed it in the past few weeks is when watching something on you tube when a commercial pops up the screen goes black. Must be a format thing, taking a second to switch resolution/ hdr and such. But playing on my PS5 and Xbox have had no trouble at all. Wasn’t thrilled buying a whole new box, but happy to finally experience lighting without syncing issues.

Interesting effects, easy to install, a bit pricy for what it does though. It adds lighting background that complements what's happening on the screen. Explosions - rage/red glow, etc.
