Works as intended. Have my consoles and pc hooked up to it. I only wish there was a way you could get the gradient lightsteip synced with the smart tv apps that are run through tv, apparently it only syncs with those if you have a samsung tv.

Philips Hue Sync Box 8K – An Absolute Nightmare

I wanted to love this device, but after weeks of frustration, I’m officially done trying to make it work. I recently went all out on my home theater upgrade. I have a Sony A95L OLED, a Sony 3000ES receiver, the latest-gen Apple TV, Panasonic UB820, Xbox Series X, and PS5 — all connected with high-quality AudioQuest HDMI cables. Everything in my chain supports the latest standards (4K 120Hz, Dolby Vision, VRR), and everything works perfectly together… until I introduce the Hue Sync Box 8K. At first, setup seemed fine. It worked just like my older Sync Box (which I’ve since moved to another room), but now I could finally enjoy 4K 120Hz gaming with my Hue lights. That excitement didn’t last. One night, my Xbox suddenly stopped displaying an image — just a black screen. The other devices still worked, so I brushed it off. Later that evening, I tried my Apple TV. No video, only the UI “click” sounds. The PS5? Same story: audio but no picture. The only way to fix it was a hard reset. And even that is a mess — the reset process is inconsistent and takes 30–40 minutes of trial and error to get the box working again. After finally getting things running, I thought maybe it was a one-off. But a couple days later: same issue. No image, no stability. Another hard reset. The final straw came today. I turned on my Apple TV to watch Alien Earth and immediately noticed the picture looked wrong. Checked the settings — Dolby Vision had completely disabled itself. Apple TV claimed my display no longer supported it. I checked my Xbox — same result. The Sync Box had essentially crippled my setup’s capabilities. I pulled the Hue Sync Box out of the chain and, surprise: everything instantly worked again. 4K 120Hz, Dolby Vision, VRR — flawless. Which tells me this isn’t my TV, receiver, or sources. The Sync Box is the weak link. For a device that costs this much and is supposed to complement high-end equipment, this experience is unacceptable. Constant resets, random failures, and outright breaking Dolby Vision support? No thanks. The old Sync Box worked fine. This 8K model feels rushed, unstable, and simply not ready for prime time. If you’re thinking about upgrading — don’t. Stick with the old box, or skip it entirely until Philips sort this mess out.

Looks stunning in 4K 120 fps paired with the ps5 pro. Been waiting on this upgrade for a long while!! Only 4 stars because…I hooked it up to my 8K tv and…it can’t recognize the connection. I tested the 8K with the ps5 pro connected straight to my tv, so I know it works. Not sure if a software update is needed or what the issue is. Not the biggest deal since literally only 2 games support 8K right now and i only own 1 of them. Plus 8K has its limitations for fps and other functions with the ps5 pro in general; but still if you’re toing to advertise this as an 8K sync-box, then i expect it to work.

The sync box finally got the upgrade I’ve been waiting for. After years of frustration watching all my content in 1080p because my sync box couldn’t do 120hz 4k even though all my equipment was capable. Just switched the box out and changed the setting to 4k Dolby vision and we’re off and running.

If you watch tv/movies through apps on your TV I would not recommend this unless you plan on buying an Apple TV or chromecast. If you play and or watch on a xbox series x or PS5 and have a TV that can do 4K @ 120, I’d recommend not plugging it into the sync box and buy an Apple TV or chromecast. You graphics get lowered when pulling HDMI through sync box even though it says it doesn’t. However if you have a cable box or Apple TV/chromecast I’d highly recommend this. As someone who thought it would be lame for the lights to sync, the ambiance while watching movies is honestly amazing. I never thought I’d say this but it truly enhances the the watching experience.

Works great until you try to use your xbox series x on 120hz. I literally have an 8k HDMI cable made for the speed and what not but it glitches out and doesn't work in 120hz through the hue sync.

This 8k sync box is a much needed upgrade from the 4k version. It was super easy to setup and sync with all my other lights. The software works flawlessly and haven’t had a single issue. This was the much needed entertainment upgrade I was needing for my setup. Thank you.

This is definitely an upgrade from the previous version. The last one I had would frequently lose connection from my amplifier, which handles both audio and video. This version works so much better with my amplifier. It’s extremely responsive to what’s going on the screen and makes movie watching very fun.

This is one of my best buys i have made this year from Best Buy! I have this Philips Hue play HDMI Sync Box 8k connected to the Light strip behind my tv and the 2 lights on each side of my sofa. It makes me feel like at the movies and also goes great when I play music!

I had the original sync box and decided to upgrade. Way less connectivity issues (can use with my ps5) and everything can be done in one app. It is a very expensive upgrade but well worth it doesn’t break the bank for you

I bought the original one a year ago and realized it wasn’t HDMI 2.1 which made it almost useless for my PS5 and Xbox. This one does everything you want it to and works much better than the previous version.

I recently got my Hue Sync box and it’s been perfect! I wanted to get a sync box for the TV to pair with my gaming system but I heard a lot of reviews on the previous version that made games lag. This has been perfect and shows great colors and no lag! Highly recommend!
