Overall this product is nice to have. Some issues we had with it though was sometimes we'd have trouble connecting to the different devices (i.e. Playstation, Nintendo Switch, etc) and that made it a hassle to deal with. Overall though it was a cool product to get.

Bought this sync box to pair with my Phillips Hue light strip and a pair of light bulbs. Connected really quick. Only down side is that when you pair it with your Google Home you have to give so many different commands so it can do what you actually want it to do.

Been using the Sync Box for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts. Wanted one when it was first released but I knew that as a new product, that it would be glitchy and need a few updates before it was ready for primetime. Before you try using this device DO THE UPDATES FIRST. Can't stress that enough. Update the device first, make sure that your lights are updated, create your entertainment zone in the main Hue app first, and download the Hue Sync app. The Sync Box uses its own app for control, not the original Philips Hue app. For simplicity sake I use my stereo receiver as a hdmi switcher instead of the Sync. Less work for the Sync Box and less chance of it locking up switching ports when all it has to do is monitor one port. Before you add the Sync Box to Alexa or Google home get familiar with it first and play around with it for a few days. So far my Sync works great and the Hue lights do a great job of expanding the effects field of my tv and makes the actual viewing area look larger. I'm running 7 Hue Play Bar lights on the back of a 65 inch Sony 4k TV. You can use Play Bar, Light Strip, bulbs, lamps, or any portable lighting made by Philips Hue for effects as long as they have been setup in your entertainment zone first. I love it so far and will be adding lights in the corners to increase the effects. Great item with a small learning curve that can get more expensive real quick. Enjoy.

One of the best additions I added to my entertainment system along with the Philips Hue Gradient Light Strip. I just wish they had a way for it to work directly with my smart tv.

After messing around with opensource software, custom products and almost going away from Hue lights for my entertainment areas this BOX was finally introduced and then I bought it!! While others will tell you the downfall with Dolby vision I can tell you using this box with all of my TV inputs (Apple TV and Xbox) I cannot tell any visual issues. The only problems we run into our with our surround sound system (Sonos); there are times that it doesn't read the sound input but we had this issue before the Sync box was installed. For light setup started with are 3 Hue PLay lights that are mounted to the TV and then 3 other color hue bulbs in a floor lamp and finally a single color bulb in a table lamp. 3 lights at the front of the room and the other 4 at the back of the room where we sit. While the color changing to match the screen content is awesome having so many lights interact was a bit annoying/intrusive. We opted to have only the front 3 lights color change for TV/movie use and then add in the back 4 during gaming.

Most of all, it works with lights as intended to have a great lighting effect. I find the control between inputs to be clunky and a bit annoying, but overall it does its job.

Overall a good product there are some quirks that you have to get used to but once you figure them out and know that occasionally you have to reset by turning on and off it’s OK it does work well when it’s working and provides a great atmosphere to your movie viewing

The Sync can make for an awesome experience. The box can be buggy at times and doesn’t always play well with my Soundbar. Doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 which isn’t great for the next gen consoles. Hopefully they release a newer version soon.

A bit quirky when switching between different devices, but works as advertised. It’s a surround sound for your eyes that enhances the movie experience. It was a pain to set-up and after several calls and online videos I found out it will not connect to a dual router, only to 2.4GH.

    Pros mentioned:
    App, Color, Ease of use
    Cons mentioned:
    Apple tv

I’ve really wanted to buy this for a while but I was reluctant after reading some reviews. I said screw it and got it anyway because I wanted to judge for myself. The setup was incredibly simple. Literally just turn it on and follow the instructions on the app. Took me about 6 minutes from taking it out of the box to being able to use it. I use my Apple TV, PS4, Xbox, and (don’t judge) PS3. My tv only has two hdmi inputs so I would constantly plug and unplug when I wanted to use a different device so the fact that I don’t have to do that anymore AND I still have one input left on the tv itself is fan-freaking-tastic! Based on what everyone was saying it seemed most of the issues were coming from the app but I have yet to encounter any of those issues (and if in the future I do, I’ll update this review). Up to this point it’s been incredibly easy to use. Also I love the amount of controls and settings. You’re able to program your tv remote turn on the box, manually select an input, or even hace it where the box recognizes a device is being turned on and switch to that input automatically. I have yet to try voice control with my google home though. The lights. I have I think six bulbs connected to my “entertainment area” and a light strip behind the tv which is also connected. You can control the brightness which is convenient for different types of movies. There’s also the intensity (the degree to which the lights reflect the screen). I.E. low intensity=light subtle flickers and colors change more transitionally vs. high intensity=flashes of light that are more noticeable and accurate to what’s on the screen (better for action). I’ve played on all three consoles on game mode and in all honesty I’m not sure I see a difference in game mode as opposed to video mode. It still looks really good though. Music mode is really cool and I can’t wait to have friends over after this COVID person has left the chat. The brightness strongly reflects the volume of what is being played so a chorus might look some what random but still noticeably in sync but a drop/bass heavy part will clearly brighten the lights. It’s really cool. The ONE complaint I would say I have is the price. Don’t get me wrong I love having it and don’t regret getting it, but while it’s a powerful little device, I don’t know that’s its worth $230. I’d be a little more inclined to tell my friends with hue lights that this is a must have if it were closer to the $100-$150 range. That’s not exactly something you can control so it’s whatever but still... Overall, it’s a great little device. I use it just about everyday and I still love it!

I have a ton of hue lights so I needed this so I could have lights sync w movies, games, etc. the only flaw I’ve found is it syncs with the devices feeding into it. So if you want to watch a movie on your smart tv vs on a box feeding through the hue play box then it won’t be able to sync the movie w the lights.

if you've got Philips Hue lights behind and near your TV and want to sync it all up, look no further than the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. It will transform the way you watch TV. It intercepts your TV signal and matches your lights to what is being displayed on-screen, resulting in an experience that's more immersive than ever. It's expensive sure, and it can't be controlled by a remote, but it's worth the money to really elevate your home entertainment experience.

Absolutely love this unit. There is one downside though..no Dolby vision support as of now. But they are proactively updating it's firmware. They just recently added HDR10+ support. All this is a licensing issue so just like HDR10+ hopefully soon will be updated. But that being said I honestly shut off Dolby vision in favor of the Hue lights because they bring much more to the table. You have to experience it to believe it. On the matter of price...if you are already invested in the Phillips hue ecosystem this is a MUST BUY!

It is a joy to have/use. Syncing is fantastic. My biggest issue is the fact that the TV screen tends to black out every once in a while. Especially when playing video games. Also, HDMI devices are unable to automatically turn on the sync box. Not sure that it's worth the price but, still gets a 4 star from me.
