    Nice lights for voice control

So this kit was my first Hue lights purchase. They were easy to install but immediately the hub and bulbs each required an update which took a very long time (hours). It was kind of annoying that a brand new product required such an onerous update. I hope they don't need to be updated on a frequent basis. Installing the Hue app and getting basic functionality was fairly straightforward. Getting them set up with my Google Home mini was a bit more involved but eventually worked out. It required making an online account at meethue.com, giving the account access to my Hue components, and then giving Google access to the Hue account. I am somewhat concerned about having to give access to my network because of possible security vulnerabilities. I am considering moving all of my home automation stuff to a separate guest wifi network. I really wish Google Home could just access Hue locally and not have to go thru the internet. So having voice control over the lights throughout my house is very cool and works fine so far. If it continues to operate reliably and not require lots of maintenance, I may update this review to 5 stars. I chose to start with this basic white light starter kit because it was substantially cheaper than the color lights and really basic home lighting thru voice control was my first priority. The color lights look cool, but really they are kind of a novelty. If these basic white lights work out well, I will consider getting some of the fancier lights, when they go on sale!

I purchased these lights to go with amazon echo's. Pretty easy set up. They work great. I do not have dimmable light switches in my home so these work with no problems. It is nice to dim the lights just by telling it to do so. Pricey if you don't get the kit on sale. You do need to remember what you name each light if you do not make a group. Twice it did not connect to alexa when asked to......then it did.

If you're looking for a great way to get started using lights that you can control with your devices and/or home assistant devices, this is the best way to go. It comes with 4 bulbs and the hub to get you all started. Once you get the lights plugged in and synced to the hub, you can also add it to your home automation system, like Google Home, and control the operation of your lights with your voice. These aren't the colored lights, just one white color. But they're still GREAT because you can dim them to set the mood for a romantic dinner ("Hey Google, turn the lights down to 25%.") or wake them up if you drop your fork and can't see where the dang thing fell under the table ("Hey Google, turn the lights up to 100%."). Granted, you've got to have the Google Home or Google Home Mini to make that work.

This is the Philips Hue White A19 LED Starter Kit that I purchased. Set up was easy. Step 1: Install Philips Hue App and log in with google account or create new Hue account. Step 2: Connect Hue Bridge to your router. Step 3: Use the Hue app to set up the Hue Bridge. Step 4: Install bulbs, rename them and assign them to your desired rooms. Step 5: Link Google Home or Elexa, etc. to Hue Bridge. Step 6: Turn on/off these bulbs with your voice using google home/alexa/Siri, etc. You can also turn on/off these lights with your Hue App as well. Optional Step 7: You can install IFTTT App for more automatic lighting controls such as turning on lights when you arrive home, turning off light when you leave home. Automatically Turn on/off light at certain hours, tc. I am happy with this starter kit. Will buy more bulbs when they are on sale to install around the house. hng724

I first started with bellkin wemo system using smart plugs and switches. They work well but installation of the smart switch was hard because of a small box. And the earlier plugs were big so they blocked two outlets. The philips hue system was much easier to set up and use. Install the app. Set up the bridge. Put in the smart bulbs. Assign them names. Both systems work with Alexa. Both systems can be controlled anywhere in the world via the app. The wemo system does seem to lag using Alexa where the hue is more quick to respond. If I had to start over I would use more hue items and only use wemo items for the built in lights. But try this starter kit and see if you don’t start buying more hue bulbs and devices.

I bought a set of lights for myself and wasn't sure how much I would use them. I came home late one night and loved how I could control them with my voice or phone before I got in the door. They respond quickly and I love the dimming feature finding the perfect lighting for every room. They were easy to set up with minimal effort, no ugly cords or devices and only a simple bridge (small white box) by my computer. This became our gift of the season giving everyone in our family a set. Several of our family members are older and live alone so they felt safer having the lights on when they came home and the ability to control them by voice. They make it safer to get up at night by installing one in the hall outside the bathroom and pleasant to have a dimming feature for the bedroom.

Very practical applications in my home. I bought the starter kit on Black Friday, and then bought light packs for more rooms on Cyber Monday. I have routines to help wake up the kids and myself at different times each weekday with a 15 minute fade-in. I still use my alarm in case I'm just too tied to get up, but the light fade-in works for me so much better. I have light routines for dusk and for dawn that control which lights turn on and at what brightness. My wife synced her Apple ID to the hub so she can control the lights by name with Siri. She uses her voice every night to turn off the Master lights even though all our smart lights are scheduled to turn off automatically at midnight anyway. When you setup the lights, its actually rather fun naming each light so you can uniquely control each one. My son's light name is Boy. My daughter's is Girl. Others include desk, sink, back door, garage door, his, hers, couch, mantle, landing, even monkey (for the light with a monkey shade). Lights can be grouped into rooms. We have Retreat, Office, Kitchen, Living Room, Master, Blue room, Pink room, etc. We now have an Echo Dot synced to the hub. I love using Alexa to control whole rooms or individual lights. I even created an Alexa voice control where lights in the living room are set to dim when my wife and I are ready to watch TV with our wine in hand. For my birthday in May, I'm going to ask for some Hue in-wall light switch controls to control selected ceiling lights and chandeliers. Thank you Best Buy for offering such an attractive holiday promo that got me to try this stuff out. Ordering online was easy and I was so glad I could pick up my purchase at my Store.

I have tried so many things and returned a few companies products i this learning curve. The HUE lights are highly addictive. At first their point seemed too high for my hobby project that my wife would not accept right off the bat. They’ve lowered the prices and a still pumping out great new products. They are very reliable and very customizable. I love them. I love them I love them. See below for another review I placed about the Google Assistant see just how well the lighting has melded into my wife’s Psyche!!!!! =============••= Yes, “them”. At first I bought one and I bought an Echo also. I kept my Google Home Assistant Speaker and returned the Exho. I have bought 2 of the original style and two of the minis for my home. Couple with my smart switches, outlets and bulbs and with both chromecast to 1 tv and the other to anextra monitor and then 2 of the audiocast to two diffferent high output audio speakers in larger rooms and without an Assistant in those particular my house is coming alive. It’s funny, at first my wife kind of put off and frustrated with me doing this. Now she’s fully onboard, so much that other morning after just awakening she hurting the living to fold some cloths she left on the couch the night beforehand. I was still I bed and I heard her say “Turn Living Room” af few moment later I head her say it again. And then I heard her say “Turn everything on” and I could tell by her voice she was frustrated and I could tell by looking the cracked door that no lights were so. So. I said, the ‘mini’ speaker in my bedroom, “Ok Google, Turn Everything On” and voila the living room, dining room, bed room, kitchen, breakfast, many lamps and the Christmas tree all lit up to the preintendes brightness values. I get up an go toward her and say “Whats Up?” I then say, you gotta say Hey Google or Ok Google first. She said well they came on and I told her I heard and and did it for her from the room. She was irritated that her voice sauce was not tuning on the Lights. I have slowly building my system for about 4 months now. During the period she has become so used to the Speakers and talking to command them that she even thought to just go and Flick a switch or button for any light. She’s used to bossing these rooms around I guess. It was truly very cute and funny. BUT the best part is the feedback. ALL the MUSIC from google play. We have a very extensive Apple iTunes Music Library I have compiled from about 4000 CD and then the stuff we purchase through Intunes. I was actually waiting for the new Apple speaker to show up and that why I don’t have one of the larger model Googles. Apple has not delivered I’m just stick to my Google. Any back to the music. Our purchased library is huge. GOOGLE PLAY is exponentially larger and it rocks. I can come home and say Hey Google play some cool Jazz from the 50 and she will begin to fill the room with all kinds of music and artist I would never even think of. I can ask her to Play Contemporay Christian and she’ll plank all out favorites and a bunch of new songs my local radio stations have not let me hear yet. Wi H google play mynacccount in Yourube is upgraded to Red status. That means no stupid you tube ads and I think higher quality definition. She’ll play YouTube to the assistant and Cast devices in audio and replay the contest on my monitors (better that that echo display) and she’ll play my Netflix, news cast and a ton of other stuff on to my chrome cast. In the morning she tell me about the weather, my travel time and my agenda and reads to me the top headlines. We use the one in the kitchen the most. It is usable from Kitchen Living Breakfast ans Dining room areas with how my house it laid out and where I placed it. A great resource she pull up recipes, set times, and does so much. And now, she able to make phone calls too. The call come from my number so my contact know to answer and still I can use her to call MY phone on those occasions it has misplaced itself. My wife, it know her voice from mine and she can do all the above for her preferences. What I really really really want and am waiting in creating calendar events that tie into my Gmail ( and Apple and Outlook) Account’s and the ability to send voice to text messages from her. And real large on my wants to read and create emails. She say something like, “i’m Sorry I can’t help with that yet”. Come on google. Give it to me. My family came for thanksgiving. They fell in love. On Black Friday I bought a bunch of products to get them for Christmas. They’ll be hooked.

The Philips Hue Starter Kit came with everything needed to start creating your smart home. The lights are LED, which have a drastically smaller wattage than incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, but the same amount of lumens. Setup was easy, and in minutes, I was controlling the bulbs through my phone. The Philips Hue app allows for routines, location based turning off/on of lights, and a host of other features that I enjoy fiddling around with. Along with a smart speaker (such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home), you can turn off the lights without getting up off the couch!

I purchased these to have better control of the lighting at home and for security as well when traveling away from home. You can schedule the lights to turn on based on time, sunset/sunrise, geofencing. I like the fact that they are dimmable as well in this way you can set scenes like nightlight or movie time, wake up, and coming home to activate certain lights. The kit is very easy to set up and get up an running within 15-20 min. I have mine set up with Homekit and its great. Make sure to update your app and lights when available. It adds functionality.

I bought this as a gift for my mother and father-in-law. They only have little lamps throughout their house with no overhead lights. This is perfect because now they can turn heir lights in by speaking too. If you don’t have these lights I highly encourage you to try these and claim you don’t like them. I know in my own house I love the fact I can dim the lights at night and not see the light reflecting off the tv while watching a game or some other show. But my favorite thing is keeping the lights dim in the morning so I don’t feel blinded by the light.

Recently installed them in my bedroom and I am very pleased. I was a bit hesitant about getting the lights because I heard someone say they were hard to install/manage. Comes to find out, It was an EXTREMELY easy set up & I might just get some more to place throughout the home. The Hue Lights app is super user friendly and straight forward and the lights work well with my current Echo Dot. Definitely recommend this product especially if you already have an Alexa system in the home.

Easy to use and easy to set up. This kit contains the Hue's hub which connects to your Wifi via it's own application found in the App store or the Google store. The four bulbs that come with the kit allow you to experiment with the kit to determine if you like it and will consider expanding. I liked it, it's easy to set (all via the application) you can designate room where the bulbs are found, turn them on/off with Alexa or with the application. Also, the lights can be made brighter or dimmer via Alexa or the application.

Nice lights with very easy setup...One caveat...make sure you leave the light switch on so that the lights have continuous power. If your inadvertently flip the switch, the lights will disconnect from the network breaking the connection to the app

Bought this for Alexa integration. That part works flawlessly. I can also dim the lights with the phone app. That also works quite well. But here are where the good stops. So this Philips Hue bulbs (4) with bridge is a great starter way to get into home automation. Set up was fairly easy, though you would need to be close to your internet modem or wifi router/ network router to plug in the internet cable. This is where the WEMO switches have the upper hand, where they already have the wifi connection built in and all you have to do is connect them wirelessly to your wifi router. Yes, I understand that the bridge is there for expansion, as you can add quite a few more lights to the same bridge, so the bridge in itself is a separate, private wireless router. But it could be hard to install for some application as you have to be close to your home router and an AC outlet. Putting that aside, the connection stays pretty good. I have the lights in the basement, and the hue bridge in the basement and Alexa upstairs. Alexa more times than not, will detect and control the lights before I go down. When I am in the basement, my only control method is my app, which is also pretty responsive. It may sometimes take a couple of tries to get the right dim or for the light to show up in the app but most of the times it gets it right. The nice thing about is that you can set up scenes, for example if you are having a guest night you can have all of them set bright, and when it is movie time you press a button and they dim to your preset liking. I have mine set up to 1% dim on two of them and off on the other two to create a dark but not totally dark movie experience. All in all, it is pretty convenient and am thinking to add some more bulbs to lamps in the bedroom and livingroom. That is where the good things end. Here comes the 'bad things'. There is no way (haven't found it yet) to remote control the lights away from home. As your lights are on their own hue bridge / router, there is no way to tap into your home wifi from anywhere in the world and turn the lights on/ off or even see if they are turned on or off. This is where the WEMO switched do a much better job. there is a setting that detects when you are away from the lights via the cell phone app, to turn the lights off when you leave home and on when you return, but that part is pretty useless. Also, if you ever lose power or have a power surge, the lights turn on. So if you are away on vacation, your lights are on for the entire day. You can also set a preset program to turn the lights off at a certain time (mine are set to turn off at 1AM every day). But again, it would be nice to see if your lights are on or off. If they incorporate that, then it would be a much better experience. Also, unlike the WEMO which are actually wall switches, you have to leave your lights in the on position all the time. If you ever flick the switch by accident, your lights won't work. So it is best to use them for nightstand lamps in bedrooms and maybe living rooms. I wouldn't use them at point of entries where you need instant light, i.e. when entering your home. There, again, is where WEMO switches win, as you can operate them as normal on/off switches as well. OVERALL: These are pretty nice to set the mood in your room as you can dim them. The dimming feature is what sold me on them, as I needed some dimming lights in my basement. Other than that, it depends how you want to control your lights. Do you want convenience of turning lights on./off from your couch and don't want to get a screwdriver? Then this is for you. Are you a bit more handy and have no problem turning off the power to the house and install wifi switches, for a bit more control on your lights (minus the dimming feature)? Then get the WEMO switches or WEMO plugs. You do get a bit more with this package (4 bulbs and a bridge for about $100), but you get more control with WEMO, although $100 will get you about 2 switches (they are almost $50 each). .

The bundle is much more affordable than buying the parts separately. However, I still think this is an expensive product. I am using it with my Google Home and Google Home Mini and it was very easy to install and setup. It needs some getting used to (not to turn on and off manually), to use the app or voice commands, but once you do its great. You can also set timers, schedules, and other methods of turning light on/off like: I turn the entrance light on after sunset and the rest of the lights when I get home (if it is after sunset).recognized by Phone GPS. If it was not so expensive I would get them for the whole house. P.S. if you have a lamp that needs many light bulbs or that uses different light bulbs you can get the smart tap (I don't have it).

These lights are fantastic. "Hey, Google...turn on the lights"...and voila, 4 lights are instantly on...or "turn on living room" and just the LR lights are turned on, or whatever combinations of voice commands you want. Dim them, make them flash, name them, group them, schedule them...or control them remotely with the Hue app. Setup was fairly easy... works with my Echo, too, plus I'm still learning what all they can do. I highly recommend them.

This was my first dip into the smart home/smart appliance world. This product was so simple to use. Plug the base unit into my router and the other bulbs anywhere in the house. My phone controls the lights now and I can even make sure they are off when I'm not home. The bulbs are high quality too. Should last a lifetime!
