    Bridge won’t connect to internet

    Posted
    Mike

I bought a Philips hue starter kit on Thursday installed the lights, hooked up the bridge, and followed the instructions on the app to set it all up. By this point all is going well. I could control the lights from the app and from Siri on my iPhone. Ok so now it’s time to try to set up the hue bridge with the “out of home” feature. After many attempts it kept saying that now Philips hue bridge was not found on the network. After double checking and making sure that the bridge was connected to the router right, going into the router settings and making sure everything was set right, trying to contact Philips support several times with no luck, and then checking online forums for similar problems and solutions *which many people had the same issue*. I came to the conclusion that the bridge must be defective, today I took the starter kit back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new kit. When I got home I immediately hooked everything up again, went into the app and set everything up, but yet again I couldn’t connect it to the out of home feature. So I tried again to get in touch with Philips hue support. Finally I got through to someone, they asked me what kind of internet connection I have, I told them I have AT&T. They came back on the line and told me that their technical department said the bridge will not work with ANY SATELLITE OR CELLULAR INTERNET!!! No where on the box does it say that is an issue, but I now have a $100 useless system. I do not recommend this product to anybody that doesn’t wish to deal with days of headaches trying to make it work, and just to get told that it doesn’t support your internet provider or your equipment. It’s useless and a hassle all well just taking your money.

after this system was setup, it worked for a day, then quit. my son told us we had to manually turn off and on every light, then push the hub reset. then wait and try again. it came back on, FOR 8 HOURS. down again, this repeated for 2 weeks until my son could come over, he tried to reset. came on less than an hour. customer service and best buy says my apple time capsule isn't strong enough wireless router, and i need to up grade it, ordered a new orbing 3 station wifi. installed it, and lights worked for 2-3 hours. got up this morning, "NO RESPONDS" MESSAGE ON EVERY LIGHT IN THE SYSTEM! this system is way more work than getting up and turning the switch on or off. when it works, you can change colors, big deal. $400 for lights, $300 for router, and lost my time capsule. what a bunch of JUNK!!!!!

The bulbs are great but the hub...not so much. I "try" to use it with Alexa and even with Siri and about 80% of the time I get that its unavailable. So its pretty useless and costly. I contacted Phillips 4-5 times and just get a email for troubleshooting but zero help. Maybe my hub is bad? However between this and other bulbs I wasted well over $300....Not happy!

Seems like a great idea but the app is awful and you can expect to constantly reconnect your lights everyday. I spent a few hundred dollars on Phillip hues lights and I have to use them as normal lights because their app to control the lights is unbearable. I’ve tried multiple 3rd party apps but now you’re opening yourself god knows who.

I’m fairly gifted at setting up tech stuff. I’ve put together many Home theaters, own a Macia Pro drone and enjoy DIY capabilities. The Philips Hue starter kit was impossible to get set up. After numerous attempts, I packed it up and returned it. Instead, I bought a smart plug and easily connected it to WiFi and my Alexa. Don’t bother with this.

Doesn’t work well with google home. Light bulbs don’t have number labels. I don’t know what bulb is number 1, 2, 3, or 4. I have to guess. Take so much time. After figuring out what number the bulb is, it did not turn on. End up returning

I went for this brand due to their reputation. However, it did not work well with Google home. It was either hit or miss. However, I experienced more miss than hit. Will not recommend.

This product was terrible. I was getting full connectivity and the mobile app still couldn't locate the bridge. I returned it to the store after hours of trouble shooting

The bulbs have lasted over a year now. We love using our Google to turn the lights on and off.
