Bought this for Alexa integration. That part works flawlessly. I can also dim the lights with the phone app. That also works quite well. But here are where the good stops. So this Philips Hue bulbs (4) with bridge is a great starter way to get into home automation. Set up was fairly easy, though you would need to be close to your internet modem or wifi router/ network router to plug in the internet cable. This is where the WEMO switches have the upper hand, where they already have the wifi connection built in and all you have to do is connect them wirelessly to your wifi router. Yes, I understand that the bridge is there for expansion, as you can add quite a few more lights to the same bridge, so the bridge in itself is a separate, private wireless router. But it could be hard to install for some application as you have to be close to your home router and an AC outlet. Putting that aside, the connection stays pretty good. I have the lights in the basement, and the hue bridge in the basement and Alexa upstairs. Alexa more times than not, will detect and control the lights before I go down. When I am in the basement, my only control method is my app, which is also pretty responsive. It may sometimes take a couple of tries to get the right dim or for the light to show up in the app but most of the times it gets it right. The nice thing about is that you can set up scenes, for example if you are having a guest night you can have all of them set bright, and when it is movie time you press a button and they dim to your preset liking. I have mine set up to 1% dim on two of them and off on the other two to create a dark but not totally dark movie experience. All in all, it is pretty convenient and am thinking to add some more bulbs to lamps in the bedroom and livingroom. That is where the good things end. Here comes the 'bad things'. There is no way (haven't found it yet) to remote control the lights away from home. As your lights are on their own hue bridge / router, there is no way to tap into your home wifi from anywhere in the world and turn the lights on/ off or even see if they are turned on or off. This is where the WEMO switched do a much better job. there is a setting that detects when you are away from the lights via the cell phone app, to turn the lights off when you leave home and on when you return, but that part is pretty useless. Also, if you ever lose power or have a power surge, the lights turn on. So if you are away on vacation, your lights are on for the entire day. You can also set a preset program to turn the lights off at a certain time (mine are set to turn off at 1AM every day). But again, it would be nice to see if your lights are on or off. If they incorporate that, then it would be a much better experience. Also, unlike the WEMO which are actually wall switches, you have to leave your lights in the on position all the time. If you ever flick the switch by accident, your lights won't work. So it is best to use them for nightstand lamps in bedrooms and maybe living rooms. I wouldn't use them at point of entries where you need instant light, i.e. when entering your home. There, again, is where WEMO switches win, as you can operate them as normal on/off switches as well. OVERALL: These are pretty nice to set the mood in your room as you can dim them. The dimming feature is what sold me on them, as I needed some dimming lights in my basement. Other than that, it depends how you want to control your lights. Do you want convenience of turning lights on./off from your couch and don't want to get a screwdriver? Then this is for you. Are you a bit more handy and have no problem turning off the power to the house and install wifi switches, for a bit more control on your lights (minus the dimming feature)? Then get the WEMO switches or WEMO plugs. You do get a bit more with this package (4 bulbs and a bridge for about $100), but you get more control with WEMO, although $100 will get you about 2 switches (they are almost $50 each). .

    Nice lights for voice control

So this kit was my first Hue lights purchase. They were easy to install but immediately the hub and bulbs each required an update which took a very long time (hours). It was kind of annoying that a brand new product required such an onerous update. I hope they don't need to be updated on a frequent basis. Installing the Hue app and getting basic functionality was fairly straightforward. Getting them set up with my Google Home mini was a bit more involved but eventually worked out. It required making an online account at meethue.com, giving the account access to my Hue components, and then giving Google access to the Hue account. I am somewhat concerned about having to give access to my network because of possible security vulnerabilities. I am considering moving all of my home automation stuff to a separate guest wifi network. I really wish Google Home could just access Hue locally and not have to go thru the internet. So having voice control over the lights throughout my house is very cool and works fine so far. If it continues to operate reliably and not require lots of maintenance, I may update this review to 5 stars. I chose to start with this basic white light starter kit because it was substantially cheaper than the color lights and really basic home lighting thru voice control was my first priority. The color lights look cool, but really they are kind of a novelty. If these basic white lights work out well, I will consider getting some of the fancier lights, when they go on sale!

Lighting great, App/Software not so much

Overall I am very happy with the product although I have only had it installed for two days now. I have been using the product with Google Home and am very satisfied with using voice commands to operate the lighting. I have 8 lights assigned to various rooms/locations in the house. The bridge is communicating easily with each bulb in various locations in the house. The only bad part of this experience has been the App/Software. The App does not recognize/find the bridge. After a lot of work it finally recognized it for a short period only to lose contact again. This happened repeatedly. I knew it was not a matter of the bridge being too far from the bulbs because when I would get a bulb appropriately setup, it would continue to communicate with the bridge even though the App could not. I finally downloaded a third party App and it worked flawlessly. However, I spent a number of hours to make this all work trying to use the Phillips Hue App.

This was was first entry into the smart lighting & likely won’t be my last as I become more familiar with the Hue products. Pros: super easy install & set up of the bridge. Setting up HomeKit thru my phone was also fairly simple as well as creating different scenes. Cons: really the only issue is the light switch needs to always be “on” in order for you to control the lights using either HomeKit or the Hue app. Not a big deal for me, but wife & kids are still used to flipping the switch for lights on/off. Overall, I think the concept & product are great. However, being able to install a smart switch that would function like a normal switch, but also allow for greater WiFi functionality might be a better option if available.

After MUCH research I decided on the Phillips Hue system as they consistently rated the best of all WIFI able LED bulbs. Best part was a great sale at Best Buy, besting even the lowest online prices. The Hub wasn’t hard to set up but also not quite as simple as all the “plug it and play it” accolades in many online magazine reviews. But it was a short learning curve and now it works well both with the app and my Amazon Echo system. I purchased an additional color LED bulb. Pros: Completely dimmable, control from both smart phone/tablet and Amazon Echo, bulbs produce excellent light for my homes needs. Cons: Bulbs can still be expensive, Hub takes many minutes to update firmware at installation, bulb naming not obvious at first, changing bulb locations must be well planned out.

The bundle is much more affordable than buying the parts separately. However, I still think this is an expensive product. I am using it with my Google Home and Google Home Mini and it was very easy to install and setup. It needs some getting used to (not to turn on and off manually), to use the app or voice commands, but once you do its great. You can also set timers, schedules, and other methods of turning light on/off like: I turn the entrance light on after sunset and the rest of the lights when I get home (if it is after sunset).recognized by Phone GPS. If it was not so expensive I would get them for the whole house. P.S. if you have a lamp that needs many light bulbs or that uses different light bulbs you can get the smart tap (I don't have it).

I love having these lights in our home. It was easy to setup and link with our Alexa device. The only issues I have had involve the Hue app itself. I often have trouble connecting to it to control the lights. Of course, I can still control them using the Alexa app or just telling Alexa what we want to do with them, whether it's on, off, dim, or whatever percentage we want the lighting at and it works. My son likes it because he sometimes is afraid of going to a room where the light is off so he just asks Alexa to turn the light on and problem solved. I definitely enjoy the convenience of being able to turn off the lights while I'm away for those times I forget to turn them off before leaving.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. The setup of the bridge is pretty easy, just plug into power and your local network, and it is easy to setup. The lights take a little more coaxing, and I found that using the Hue app independently from the skills section of my Amazon Alexa app proved to work better in terms of setting up the lights for initial use. Once done in that app, they seem to work seamlessly with the Smart home section of the Alexa application. Overall, a very good product that works quite well, as long as you have a good basic grip on technical matters. Those who struggle with the finer features in things like smart phones and computers might need a little help, since the included instructions are a bit sparse

Recently got the Google Home Mini so I was looking to make the house smart. Looked at different smart bulbs and was having second thoughts about the Philips since it requires a hub as opposed to competing brands (eg. Lifx, Wiz). Black Friday was a good chance for me to get these for a fairly "reasonable" price, at least as far as smart bulbs are concerned. Setup was quick and painless, including its incorporation into Google Assistant. I did find the fixed color temperature disappointing (quite warm too) and have to purchase the more expensive Ambiance bulbs for that option. Still a good buy overall and now cheaper to buy the bulbs alone if I plan to add more around the house.

My wife and kids laughed when I bought these, but now they use it often. I have many lamps so 3 of these bulbs set what ever mood and lighting level I ask for. They are all white, but dimming sets the mood. I found these very useful, but a little unclear with which bulb number I was installing during setup. I named everything, did all the updates and downloaded 3 apps that all work fine, but have different features, so I use them all. Alexa is useless when the Internet is down, thank you at&t. The apps still worked when wireless is up. Guess I'm stuck with Philips now, since the hubs are not universal.

Now that I figured out how to set It up, I love the system. First off you have to plug the hub into your router and a power source. Each light bulb is numbered 1-4. You have to figure out which one they are by using them because they are not physically labeled. Go to routines to program them on and off. To turn them off or on while you are away you have to link it to your home assist app ie google. And turn on or off through that program. It doesn’t work through the hue app unless you are within Home router distance so not good for operating away from home. Once you figure these things out I love it.

This got me hooked on home automation. Super easy to use, and good value to begin. Setup was pretty smooth once I got the basics down. Now I’ve purchased many more coordinating items to sync with the system. The one suggestion I have is that the lights and app are clearly capable of doing spectacular things, but almost feel like th\ey\ve been dumbed down too much. It’s great to start out, but Phillips should have and advanced version that you can go to where all of the training wheels are off. Regardless I purchased this starter kit for everyone in my family for Christmas this year.

I bought it based on the recommendation of my colleague. Extremely happy with the product. I can control it using my phone, Amazon Echo. Works as promised. THe one con that I would say is that not many smart bulbs are available with the small base that fits in the ceiling fan holder. Suggestion: If Phillips can add sunrise and sunset timers in the app, then these bulbs can be used outside. Since it works with WiFi, weather info would be easily available. Not sure if other smart bulbs work with Phillips Hue controller I plan to add more bulbs in the near future

Most of my home has hard wired Z-wave wall switches, so I really don’t need the white bulbs included in the kit. I was mostly after the hub so I could put in some strip lighting on our kitchen cabinets. That being said, this is a fine kit and it works as advertised. In the long run, if you’re able to hardwire dimmer switches, it would be more cost effective for what is essentially just a set of dim able bulbs. On the other hand if you are after custom lighting effects, this is a good starter kit.

Love having smart lights in the house. You do kind of have to get use to not turning off the switch when leaving the room, but if you have a google mini or your phone/smart watch in hand, you can easily just turn off the lights. They are kind of expensive, but LEDs are and if you can get these on sell, well worth it!! You'll love being able to turn the lights off without going to the other room or turn on outside lights. You will also have dimming capabilities if you didn't have before, great product if you are tech abled.

Set up was easy through HomeKit and Siri. But connecting to Google Home has been unsuccessful!! I bought these to use with Google Mini, which has been a very irritating experience trying to get bridge linked!! I have deleted, rebooted, factory reset and more and still haven’t gotten them linked to Google!! Works great with Siri!! I have contacted customer service but yet to hear from them!! Considering returning for lights better compatible with Google!! I recommend only if you don’t want to use with Google.

I would have given this a five star if it wasn’t for the yellowish hue that it has. I was expecting it to be white not yellowish. Set up was easy with the instructions and was a better deal accompanied by the free echo dot, but there should be some clarification on how yellow it is or at least have the ability to change the hues from yellow white to white white. I would recommend but just be aware that the “white” is not as white as it may seem.

The lights themselves are great, although their lowest setting is still a bit too bright to serve as a night light. The software is the real letdown. There's not many settings to choose from and I had to resort to 3rd party programming of the lights to do what I wanted them to do. The good news is that Google has lots of options out there for home automation now. Combined with IFTTT you should be able to get the most out of your Hue lighting.

This was the only practical option for a smart upgrade in an older home at this time. When the price of bulbs this black Friday dropped to the same price level of when we were forced off the incandescent bulbs, then it was when I made the choice to "smarten up" my rooms and automate routines. Easy to set up, convenient when I need to go out of house or arrive home or forget to turn some room off. As easy as triggering app.

The lights themselves are nice and bright, and the color is warm. The base station works well, too. The only negative comment I have is that the setup is trickier than it needs to be. If you are upgrading from an older base station to this one, you should leave the old one plugged in and turned on before starting the new one. Also, the setup process would only recognize one new light at a time. Trying to setup more than one light would crash the app.
