This is my review of the Philips - Hue White Ambiance Wellness Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp - Black, and the overall Hue Lighting System. I can’t discuss just the light without going into my experience related to the lighting system as well. Before I get into the lamp and lighting system, you need to know that to use these lamps or any of the Hue devices, you need to have the Hue Bridge. The Hue Bridge is the hub that connects to the local network. The Hue devices then connect to the hub (the Hue Bridge). The Bridge can connect up to 50 different devices. The Hue Bridge is sold separately and runs from $50.00 to $60.00 by itself, but overall, I think you get a better deal if you purchase a starter kit. However, know that even if you own Amazon Alexa or Google Home, you still need the Hue Bridge. I received 4 of the Ambient Wellness table lamps in one bigger box. Each lamp was in its own box consisting of a base, a glass globe, and an ambient Hue bulb. Each lamp was very well packed, and secure. The Wellness Table Lamp is a small globe lamp that is about 6 or 7 inches wide and about 6 or 7 inches high. The base on each of these lamps is black and made of solid wood that has enough weight to easily support it. There is a groove cut out on the bottom of the base for the power cord to pass through which prevents the lamp from rocking. It is actually a very attractive design and will fit into just about any decor. I took the first lamp out of its box, screwed in the bulb, and read the directions that come with each lamp. I expected it would take me about 10 or 15 minutes to get the Hue Bridge set up and another 10 minutes to get the first lamp to function. The directions tell you to plug the light in and then go to the Hue website to get the installation instructions. I am not a technical genius, but I do know how to follow directions and I consider myself to be competent when it comes to setting up electronic gadgets, computers, WIFI, Bluetooth, etc. Well, I spent hours trying to get that light to connect to the Hue Bridge. I was frustrated with the whole experience. I could not determine what I was doing wrong. The Hue Bridge was connected to my WIFI, and I registered it with Phillips. I certainly did not expect to have any trouble getting these lights set up. I knew I would eventually get it. I decided to let it go that day. I gave it some thought off and on in the next few days and finally decided to see if I could get the 2 bulbs to work that came with the Bridge Starter Kit. If I could get them to respond I would feel good about something anyway. I screwed one of these bulbs into my desk lamp, opened the Hue App and named this light “desk lamp.” I then instructed the App to find a new device. The Bridge found it! I finally had control of a light. From there I named each lamp depending on which room I placed it in. I then connected each lamp one at a time to the Hue Bridge. Then I named each room where I wanted to place a lamp. I named one “bedroom.” The Hue App would then list each device and I would check which light I was placing in that room, like “ambient light #4.” I then opened the Alexa App and went to “Smart Home.” I tapped “bedroom,“ and “Ambient Light #4” showed up with the option to choose the ambient color and how bright to make the light. I could then tell Alexa to do each task from that point on. I went through this process with each lamp and room. I think part of my problem was that my iPhone wanted to use the “Apple Home Kit” App after I had installed the Hue App. I have the Amazon Echo (Gen.2), and an Echo Dot. The Alexa App also got involved in the process when I was trying to set up the first light. This all came about because there was nothing explaining how the Hue App integrates with the other Apps. If I had only started with the Bridge Starter Kit], got the 2 lights that came with it to work, then the Ambient lamps would have been simply a matter of naming the room each was in, naming the lamp itself, and connecting each one individually. What I found out somewhere in the whole process was that the devices connect off of each other sort of like “piggy back.” If a device is too far from the Hub to connect it will connect to the nearest device. That is what happened when I got the bulbs from the Starter Kit to connect. The rest of them then followed suit. I also disabled the “Home Kit” App in IOS, ignored the “Alexa App,” and only used the Hue App to set up the room structure and each individual light. Then the Alexa App knew the names of the rooms and the names of each light. I would Imagine that it would work the same way with Google Home and Apple Home Kit, but I was not going to experiment at this point. So, in closing, the Hue Wellness Ambient Lamps are great. There are 6 different settings of warmth those bulbs can be set to for “color,” from cool daylight to warm white, and each color setting can be dimmed from 0% to 100%. It is so nice to be able to tell Alexa to “turn basement lights off,” or “turn dining room light to 50%.” I fully recommend the lamps and the Hue lights. I will only give 4 stars to the Philips - Hue White Ambiance Wellness Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp - Black because of how ambiguous the instructions are. I looked at other reviews when I was trying the original setup hoping to gain insight and saw that many others were also frustrated too. Then again, maybe it was just me and the fact that I am now 64 years old that I had challenges.

This is a very nicely built little table lamp with a sturdy metal base and heavy glass shade. The smart LED bulb that comes with it is a white dimmable model (that the Phillips market department somehow has decided enhances "wellness") that is roughly the same brightness as a 60 watt bulb. If that's what you need and price is absolutely no object, perhaps this is the lamp for you. Otherwise, maybe not. Because the $100 price tag on this thing is just the beginning. It really doesn't do anything (and I mean anything) unless you also already have or invest in a Hue hub ($60) which is required to control the lamp. It lacks even a basic on/off switch. So you are talking some pretty serious money just to get this small table lamp up and running. But lets assume you don't care about cost. If that's the case, this thing does everything Phillips claims. Once you download the Phillips Hue app and get the lamp set up, it can do all the smart stuff any smart bulb should do. You can turn it on and off with the app (or, much easier, with Amazon Echo or Dot once you set that up). You can set up customized timers to have the lights go on and off at certain times or even sunrise and sunset, with fade ins and fade outs of the period you prefer. Or tie it in with motion detectors. (those cost extra of course). For what it's worth, the bulb that comes with the lamp is an upgraded "white ambiance" bulb instead of just a plain old dimmable smart bulb. That means the light can be warm or cool, depending on your needs. Regular bulbs are mostly just warm, like incandescents. I assume this is what makes it a "wellness" bulb. The best thing about the lamp is that it works with Amazon's Echo, because simply speaking a command to turn a lamp on or off it lot easier than digging out your smartphone, launching the app and finding the appropriate on off switch. Be aware that if you opt for Amazon's s Echo Plus, which has a built in hub that in theory replaces the pricey Philips hub, there is a price to pay. Some functionality is lost since Phillips wants to make sure you DO buy one of their pricey hubs. You can do more with the light this way, in terms of customization, than with the Echo Plus hub. And if you have already set up you light using a Philips Hub, there's a somewhat complicated process for resetting the bulbs so they are controlled directly by the Echo Plus instead of the Phillips Hub. The lamp also works with Hue's color bulbs (but of course those can cost $50 to $100 each) if color is important to you. The lamps works well but there are a few cons, besides the price. I found the required app somewhat flaky sometimes, losing track of what it was supposed to do. Timers that worked for a time suddenly stopped working for no reason, I had to delete them, put in new ones to fix the problem. This seemed to be associated with upgrades to the app. Also, be aware that in the event of power failures, the lights lose track of what they are supposed to be doing. So when the power comes back on, they immediately turn on to full brightness. A rude awakening if it happens in the middle of the night. Worse, you have to unplug them to turn them off since it takes a while for the hub to come back up if your wi fi router goes down at the same time. My only big concern with the table lamp is that it is a pretty tightly sealed unit once the shade is attached. The instructions that come with the bulb say never to place the bub in an enclosed space. But since Phillips sells the lamp and bulb as a package, I guess it's OK. In the end, this lamp does what it is designed to do. But I could not give it top marks because of the high price and somewhat flaky app that controls it.

The setup of the Philips Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp was extremely easy. This was my first venture into smart home lighting. It’s a lot simpler than I anticipated. This product is a lamp with a bulb that can connect to a Philips Hue Bridge. Without the Bridge, you won’t be able to use the lamp. However, the app (labeled Hue on the iPhone) immediately recognized the bulb after pressing the add light option within the app. The key feature of this lamp is that it is voice controlled. For this to work, you must set up Siri (on iPhone) through the Hue App. The process is rather quick and painless and it works flawlessly. Another great feature is the ability to have the lamp turn off and on based on GPS location. If you forget to turn the light (or lights, if you have several of these bulbs on your Philips Hue Bridge) off at you home, upon leaving your house, they will turn off for you. Upon your arrival, they will turn on if you’ve set up that feature as well. The performance of this lamp is a great experience. Using voice control is very responsive and accurate to what you want the light to do. By simply saying, “Hey Siri, turn the light on,” the light will turn on without being near it. The app is a great complement to the lamp. Through the app, you can access pictures that you’ve taken. After selecting a picture, you can set it as the ambience and the lamp will do an amazing job at replicating the lighting in that photo you took. I took a picture of blue Christmas lights around my neighborhood. The lamp didn’t struggle at all matching the blue ambience in the picture and it gave off soothing and relaxing tones. The lamp exceeds my expectations. I didn’t know why smart lamps were necessary nor how customizable they can be. It comes with pre-selected images for various ambiences but you can set you own with any picture from your phone. You can also schedule the lamp to turn on and off at certain times simulating a sunrise, facilitating the wake-up process. You don’t know what you are missing out on until you try one. I highly recommend this product for people who want to add nice decor that can be controlled with your phone or voice. The lamps base and cover colors blend well with most environments and its customization makes this product a unique and welcoming piece of tech into any smart home.

Design/Setup: Upon opening the box, there are instructions, the lamp, and a Hue Ambiance 60-watt light bulb. Setup was quite simple since all that is required is screwing on the light bulb and lampshade, plugging the lamp in and connecting it to a Hue Bridge (not included). The lamp has a modern design with white matte glass and a black wooden base. It does seem well built compared to other lamps of this size and the tight seal between the base and glass cover prevents dust collection on the inside. Overall, I appreciate the simple setup and like the design of this lamp, but since the design is very modern looking, it might not fit the decor style of every home. Features: What I like most about the Hue Ambiance Wellness lamp is that it can mimic a sunrise in the mornings and even replace an annoying alarm. This can be set up in the Philips Hue smartphone app. Similarly, warm ambiance lighting is perfect before bedtime. Because of this lamp, I have realized that lighting can make a significant difference in my morning and evening routine. Getting up in the mornings is more pleasant because I am gently awakened by sunrise-like lighting instead of being jolted awake by a loud alarm, and it is easier to fall asleep at night because I can have the lamp on a warm, dim setting. During the day, the lamp can be put on a bright white setting that is great for being productive. As with the other Philips Hue products, this lamp can be controlled with your voice (Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home required), which is an added convenience. Verdict: The Hue Ambiance Wellness lamp has made a positive impact on my lifestyle. I would encourage you to try it out for yourself to see how ambiance lighting can impact different activities and moods, such as waking up or going to bed. This is more than just a lamp. It is a lifestyle changer.

    A “Smart” Lamp for Everyone

First, the design. This thing looks like a slightly squarish mushroom. Don’t take that as a negative…it’s actually quite pleasing to look at. Another plus is its small draw of only 10 watts. It might “max out” at 800 lumens, but, with an estimated “thousand upon thousands” of shades of white, this thing is fantastic. Also, let’s not forget that the included LED bulb has an expected lifespan of approximately 25,000 hours. If you’re getting the idea that this thing is great…you’re on the right track. Now, I realize spending $100 on a lamp is a lot of money (especially considering you also need to have, or purchase, a Hue Hub in order to use the lamp, but, when I say it’s well worth it, I mean it. Unlike some of Philip’s other Hue products, which have the ability to show numerous colors, this only shows white…but 50,000 shades of white, in almost every temperature you can think of. If you want a pure white, it can do that…if you want a bluish hue, it can do that…if you want an orangish hue, it can do that. for a “white only” LED lamp, its abilities are quite amazing. I’ll be honest…I’ve written a few short reviews, and several very-lengthy reviews. Those long ones have been for very tech-heavy products, of which this is not. To make this short, sweet, and simple, I’ll just say that, on a 0-10 scale, I’d give this a 9-10 rating. I seriously like it that much. You control it from the app, and it just works. Best of all, you can toss out your “programmable” outlet timers to control your lamps when you’re away. With the app, you can program more advanced schedules that any of those timers could ever do. Even better, you can control the lamp from wherever you are in the world, giving an even greater impression that someone is home. Let me put it to you another way. This is the first review I’ve done for a product I received free, specifically for the testing & reviewing of the product, that I will state in the review “I received this product free…not at a discount, but free”. I am telling you this for a very specific reason. I think the Philips Hue White Ambiance Wellness Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp is so fantastic, I went and got three more. If that tell you how great I think this is, nothing will. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or somewhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

So what is this? The Philips Hue is an app based system that allows you to turn the lights on and off (dim and change colors depending on the lamp) with an app or if available, with a Voice Assistant (Google, Echo, etc). For the intents and purpose of this review, this hue lamp CANNOT be used without the Philips Hue Bridge so you have to make sure to get one to seamlessly integrate the light and the bridge is NOT included with this lamp. When you get your Hue Bridge, you hook it up to your router and then through the app, you search for your light. That takes probably 2-3 mins max. I like the app because with this light, it allows me to dim from 0-100% with a slider bar, and the app also has pre-programmed schedules or you can set your own schedule. This is convenient if you will be out of the house and you want the lights to go on and off while you are away or for example if you want the lights to automatically go on at a certain time in the morning and off at night. The lamp itself is really light and has a warm ambiance to it. Having it hooked to Google Home, I am able to turn it on and off with my voice based on either room, or light name. Don't expect instructions inside the box, rather look on the side of the box where it simply says "download the app" and follow instructions. It was very easy from there but it threw me off at first. The manual just shows how to assemble the light, but make sure to get the light bulb serial number before assembling the light cover because you might need it for initial setup. The lamp brightness is good and I really like the ability to dim to whatever level you want. After dimming it, the light will stay at that dim level when turning on and off unless you change it. I have mine in the baby room so I keep it very dim (25%) and that allows baby to keep calm and not wake up if I need to check in. I think this lamp is a great product so I gave it 4 stars. I didn't give it 5 because it requires a bridge which is sold separate, and also because the bridge requires to be wired to my router. I'd think by now, they could at least have a wireless bridge. I do recommend it though.

I hadn’t used any Hue products prior to receiving this light, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The light itself consists of a wooden base, a smart bulb and a frosted globe. It is very simple, somewhat modern, but subtle in appearance. I had to order and install a Hue Bridge before I could use the light. Be sure to note that before ordering this light. It also requires a mobile app, in my case from the Apple App Store. I had no problem installing the bridge, but it took a few minutes. Once the bridge was installed and updated, I was able to search for this light and add it to the Hue device list. Since the new Bridge is Apple Home Kit compatible, I was also able to add the system to Apple Home and control it from there. The system offers control over brightness and color temperature. Color choice is from bright white to warm yellow. Brightness from full to nightlight. The Hue app also allows you to choose from various “Scenes” that offer preset for color and brightness, The app also supports “routines” that offer support for home and away, wake up, sleep, and timer. I haven’t played with these too much yet, but the look like they offer quite a bit of flexibility. The lights can also be controlled by other apps as well. It was a positive first experience and I will likely expand my Hue system now that I have the bridge installed and can just add components to the system.

I have had some of the LIFX products but this was my first experience with the Phillips Hue brand of lighting products and honestly I'm pretty impressed. Once I received the lamp it was easy to setup and I had already preinstalled the app on my iPhone and iPad. After a quick setup of the lamp itself and then some configuration in the app I was ready to go. Note that the lamp doesn't seem to have an actual on/off switch which is why I deducted a star. If my wife or a family member of friend wants to turn on the light I seriously doubt they will have the app and the knowledge on how to do that so in this case I think it was somewhat of an oversight not to include this. However, once you get over that shortsighted issue I think the actual use of the lamp is really nice and yes it does provide some serious ambient lighting. It's also very bright if you want it to be. In the past I've had colored lighting so I thought I'd be somewhat disappointed with only using the shades of white but it's pretty impressive all the different shades that this thing can put off without being actually coloured. I don't think I ever really realized just how many shades and hues of white there are until I used this. Anyways, bottom line is my wife and I love this lamp. I think it has found a permanent place beside our bed and we both love waking up to it coming up and lighting up our room slowly and with a warm hue. It's also quiet handy to be able to brighten up the room if you're doing something like say assembling something and you really need to see what the heck you are doing. All in all I'd highly recommend this lamp, it really is a really nice addition to a lamp collectors repertoire and it works especially well in the bedroom for a wake up light.

I got this lamp because it said it worked with Alexa. I must have missed the memo that said this lamp works with the Hue bridge that works with Alexa. So, if you think you can just buy this and presto chango it works with Alexa, think again. Soooo, I went and bought the bridge seeing as I intend to move into having a fully-functioning smart home. Then came the set-up. What little information is given is written in British English rather than American English so you do have to know what mains are to realize you have, in fact, plugged the lamp into an outlet. Once I sort of figured out how the app worked and got the bridge set up and the light hooked up to the bridge, turning the light on and off from my phone was easy. Easier still was hooking the lamp up to Alexa. Pros - I can have my lamp come on when I get home so no more walking into a dark house. Alexa easily turns it on and off and dims it as requested. This is wonderful for those of us who are physically challenged, much better than the clapper. Cons: There is no on-off switch if you just want to use this as a normal light. You have to unplug it to shut it off. You do need the Bridge for it to work the way it is designed to do. The instructions leave something to be desired for those who are not used to working with a smartphone. Overall, this lamp seems like it will do the job I would like it to do. The loss of the star is for lack of warning about needing the bridge, no independent on/off switch, and also for the lack of instructions for the less tech savvy.

When I received this, I did not realize that it required a HUB/Bridge to operate it. Once I realized that it came with a standard white bulb without the color options, I opted to purchase a Dimmer instead, and I am glad I did, as the dimmer is lower cost than the HUB/Bridge and has more functionality since you can attach it almost anywhere and use the dimmer itself in remote form or attached to the base frame in the convenient location of your choice. The lamp works as expected, as it goes through a very wide range of dimming levels. The circular shade allows for great lighting in all directions, and the low profile allows the light to have a better spread. Since I went with the wireless dimmer option as opposed to the HUb/Bridge option, I cannot speak to use of the HUE App, but the dimmer with remote more than meets my needs, and I find it much more convenient to use than accessing my phone and an app just to turn my lights on (I might feel differently if I had a broader HUE lighting system than just the one lamp in my home). I've been so please with this device that I may expand my Hue home lighting network after my upcoming move. I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know, as this is so convenient, especially with the remote dimmer. Definitely a 5 star device!

This is my first venture to the world of philips hue. I am no newbie to the world of home automation as I have a home security system installed (i.e. locks/unlocks doors, cameras etc).. As much as I would just want to keep adding features to it I decided to go the more cost efficient way - thus my first table lamp. So for starters, this lamp will not work (to turn it off and on wirelessly) without a bridge module (to control it via wifi) that you have to buy separately. If you plug it directly without the module it will still light up but unless you have a wall switch to control the outlet it plugs on - its just another ordinary lamp that cost almost $100. You only need one bridge module to control multiple hue bulbs. It is also compatible with google home for voice activation. The only thing I find unappealing is that the lamp has no manual on and off switch. The lamp itself is portable and has this mushroom shaped cone that is really perfect for small end tables. The bulb does a lot of things (dimmable, wireless, connectivity, adjusts contrasts etc). So basically you are paying for the $29 bulb and a $71 lamp.

I needed a light for my office and wanted an LED table lamp. If this is your first Philips smart light, you need a Philips Hue Bridge starter kit (sold separately). You also need to download the Philips Hue app to your smartphone or tablet, as this is how you control the lamp. Start the Hue app. First, set up your home, then select the room in your home where you want to place the light, and the app should find your lamp. If the app cannot find your lamp, simply enter the serial number on the LED bulb. Then you are set to go. You can put the light on a timer; change its hue to one of three preset color/brightness settings (nightlight, dim, bright), or change the light color and brightness to match your mood or the lighting in a photo. Pretty neat! Pros: Easy to set up and assemble. Various light "temperatures" possible, from very cool to very wary. Wide range of brightness possible. Cons: There is no "on-off" switch on the lamp itself; you must use the smartphone app or plug/unplug the light to turn it on or off. You must purchase the Hue Bridge WiFi starter kit separately.

So cutting to the chase here, this is a wildly expensive lamp. While its built really well i just dont see the value. It comes with the white bulb, frosted glass shade and the base. Its all very easy to disassemble which you will do if you want to use the colored hue lights as like mentioned above it only comes with the big standard white bulb which is disappointing in a lamp at $100. The app works well and you can set different moods, they really do work but my main gripe with this lamp is it literally can only be controlled through the Hue system or the app. Now thats not an issue when you want the thing on and once its on it is fine but you have no on or off button, you literally have to pull the cable or use the app to turn the thing on or off. That may sound trivial but when getting up for work at 6am its a pain because i have no light until i get up, walk in the dark and grab my phone off the shelf. I'm not sure as to why they felt the need to remove the power button on a $100 lamp. So its a nice lamp with great mood features but i wouldn't recommend it unless you are already heavily invested in the Hue system

The Ambiance GLOBE is a unique lamp kit. In a world where almost everything is made of plastic, its neat to see a product that is made from organic parts. First a stylishly hand made glass globe covers a Phillips Ambient bulb. This special HUE lamp allows you to set the mood via light. Restful, Alert, Concentration, Readings and more. The black painted base is turned from natural wood. I was able to link to both the Phillips HUE hub, WINK and Amazon app in a few minutes. The app helps select the different moods the lamp can be set to. I plan in using this in the bedroom to wake me via soft light this winter to simulate the summer sunrise. No alarm clock blast needed.

This la,p doesn’t put out as much light as I’d hoped, but the positives outweigh that one negative. The lamp is a nice addition to our bedroom when we don’t want the full lights from the ceiling fan but aren’t ready to be in darkness. He fact that it has settings for reading, relaxing, etc. makes it a good purchase. I wouldn’t have thought that the relax setting would actually be beneficial, but it is. Nice way to lay in bed when you’re not ready to sleep but need to just chill. The lamp at full cost is a bit pricey, but since finding the right lamp for the bedroom was such a chore the price isn’t so bad.

I was pretty excited to get this and try it out, then I got it and disappointment set in. It’s not a bad looking lamp, and very sturdy. But without a Hue Bridge, all you have is a $100 lamp that you can’t turn on or off. So unfortunately this review is based on just what I have, which is a heavy, expensive lamp that you can’t turn on or off. To turn it on you plug it in, to shut it off you unplug it. This modern, futuristic, smart device is anything but, without the bridge. The bridge runs around $50 if you are so inclined. If you already have the bridge, it may be for you, if you don’t, you have just a lamp, that you can’t turn or off.

This is an excellent lamp. The number of light hues available is outstanding and my ability to dim the light keeps my husband happy since it's on my nightstand and he invariably falls asleep first. I've also been pleasantly surprised by how much I appreciate being able to turn on the light when I head to bed - so I'm not bumping around in the dark to get to a lamp while my husband sleeps. This light lost a star because it has no manual on/off switch. If someone in the house just needs to use it quickly, that isn't possible.

This lamp is stylish, dimmable, and a nice addition to any room. It can be activated with voice commands, but I wish that it also had a physical on/off switch. The bulb cover is easily removed with an innovative rubber apparatus allowing you to twist it on and off. The light itself is perfect to read by. If you are looking to upgrade lights in your home, this smart lamp is a great choice.

This Phillips Hue Light is simply a base and glass lamp with a Philips hue bulb inside it. It look very nice and gives off plenty of light. But it is missing a simple on of switch. So to turn it on you actually have to us the Hue App, or you can do it through Alexa. But sometimes technology makes it more awkward that the old fashioned way. When I am sitting at my desk it much easier to simply turn the light on and off with a switch. Which you cannot do. But at all other times it is nice to have the Hue app to adjust.

This lamp is awesome. It comes with a base, lamp globe, and dimmable light bulb. The globe has a snug fit onto the base, so it should help keep bugs from getting inside. You will need the Phillips Hue Bridge in order for the lamp to work with your home setup. The lamp sets up easily with the Phillips Hue Bridge. I was able to adjust the light bulb using the app, Alexa, and Google Home. The light bulb can only display various shades of whites, no traditional colors. I'm really enjoying this lamp.
