I have never really had any luck with electric razors, they either don't get close enough or they tear up my face and head. I've been shaving my head for close to 15 years and always find my best shave to be with a regular razor. Not anymore. I got the new one from Philips, downloaded the app and answered a few questions about my shaving habits. I have sensitive skin and have problems with ingrown hairs on my neck at times, so the app set my razor for sensitive skin. After that I gave it a try and all I can say is wow! I started by shaving my head, I have never had an electric was so smooth but also got so close! There was zero irritation and I didn't have to go over the same areas repeatedly. This thing got every hair the first try, absolutely amazing. After that I attached the handy trimmer and did around my beard and side burns, again, perfect. Then I put the shaver on the base and set it to clean. This is so important to me because of my skin sensitivity and ingrown hairs, having a clean razor is a must. This base is magic. A few hours later I used the razor on my face and neck around my beard and had the same results as my head. Just incredible. I am going on vacation today and will be bringing this as it replaces my traditional razor, shaving cream and beard trimmer. Amazing product!

The Phillips Norelco 9700 is a new razor from the Phillips family. I have to say that I was surprised at how large it was when I first opened the box. This is for my son to use and I was concerned at how much space this was going to take up on the counter. The shaver was easy for him to set up. The instructions were very easy to follow. You can set the shaver the to charge directly from the shaver to the wall or charge it using the SmartClean System. It says the battery will last up to 50 minutes. The shaver works wet or dry and you can use it the shower. The packaging says that the shaver is their #1 product for sensitive skin. In the instructions it says you should give it at least 21 days or three weeks to try and covert to the new grooming system. My son hasn't has any issues with the shaver after using it for a week. The shaver has given him a very close shave and he hasn't had any irritation from the shaver. The last thing this shaver comes with is an app that will work with your smart phone. It gives you advice on your shaving routine. Pros: Easy to use, clean close shave, works wet or dry Cons: A little big with the cleaning system to sit on the counter

What is the most important aspect of any razor? My opinion is how close it shaves. I’ve been shaving for about 50 years. Needless to say I have a tough gray beard. I’ve tried all types of razors and this Philips Norelco - 7900 Wet Dry does a great job. I’ve used this razor 2 times, once this morning. I don’t shave every day. The first time I used this razor my beard did not reappear for 3 days. The shave was close and comfortable. As far as a trimmer is concerned, this razor has a separate unit instead of a pop up. To use the trimmer, the shave head pulls out and is replaced with the trimmer. A first fo me, but it works quite well. In order to keep getting those shaves close, this razor comes with shave head cleaner. I haven’t used it yet but will use it soon. This is a smart razor which records shave information and transmit that data via Bluetooth. I haven’t worked with yet but I’ll have a look at that soon too. Overall, a great razor for it’s close shave, cleaning ability.and shave information data.

Pros: Cleans itself Quick charge Good battery Cons: Not many accessories for the price Cleaning cartridge can add up My husband doesn't normally like this type of razor as they tend to pull at the hairs on his neck. This is the first razor he's been able to use comfortably. The trimmer attachment works great for quick clean up of the beard or on hairlines for my husband and son. The battery charges quickly and lasts longer than I expected. It's nice to be able to put it on the base and know it's clean when it needs to be used next. The base is a little clunky so we did have to rearrange part of the counter space to make room but that's a minor complaint. I would have preferred a few more attachments to be included for the price but the ones it came with work well. The cleaning carts are nice however if the costs adds up I'm not sure how useful they will be in the long run.

Not Happy Me

      Hi Thorpe,

thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We're sorry to hear that you're unhappy and that the Shaver Series 7000 is not what you expected. Although your Shaver is able to connect to the Groomtribe app only via a smartphone, we would like to assure you that the use of this app is optional. The app simply provides tips on your shaving routine and technique, so it should not affect the working of the device itself. In regards to charging the Shaver, this model is indeed designed to be cordless for optimal convenience. The Shaver comes with a powerful and energy efficient lithium-ion battery, which charges fully in just 1 hour. If you're in a hurry, you can also plug the charger in for just 5 minutes, and this will give you enough battery life for one full shave. Moreover, the SmartClean System effectively cleans hair, foam and gel from your Shaver, with its unique Dual Filter. The cleaning solution is an alcohol-free, skin-friendly formula that guarantees a fresh and hygienic Shaver. We hope this information is helpful.

    Good Rotary Shaver

The Philips Norelco 7940 came very well packaged, so well it was a little hard getting the separate box packaged pieces out of the main box. Attempted a shave prior to charging for the first time, and maybe due to not fully charging prior to the shave, the shaver created a slight razor burn. The instructions refer to a “21-Day adaption process; They say it is fact that your skin and beard need to adjust to a new grooming system. Instructions state that you may experience a little skin irritation starting out, using the 7940 razor exclusively should allow your skin to become accustom to the 7940 rotary shaving heads. I registered the shaver, downloaded the shaver app, and connected the shaver to the app on my android phone, and yes that is correct, a shaver app. The app is optional and is not required to use the Philips Norelco 7940 shaver. My mustache is what the Philips app refers to as a “horseshoe mustache”. My first pass (right and left side of my mustache and face), the app displayed Duration 0:56 min and Technique 50%. I turned the shaver off and then back on and proceeded to shave the inside of my horseshoe mustache and lower neck area, the app displayed Duration 2:44 min and Technique 35%. The shaver instructions stated to keep all three rotating heads in contact with your skin, and with light pressure. With my mustache and shape of my face I found keeping all three shaver heads in contact with my skin rather hard to do, especially around my chin and lower lip area. I assume with time and practice this I might figure out how to do this. I attempted another quick, dry, shave after charging the 7940 Shaver to a full charge, I charged the shaver using the Philips SmartClean System. The shaver did much better as far as less irritation. I suggest allowing the razor to dry completely prior to shaving if you have removed it from the SmartClean System. I know you can shave with the 7940 shaver wet or dry however wet you would be using a lubricant which would be smoother. Dry should be dry, if the razor is damp from the cleaning system it will not move smoothly over your skin. I could clean the shaver under the faucet with warm water and let it dry but I do like setting the razor in the cleaning system and letting cleaning station clean and charge the shaver. It states that this will also lubricate the blades, if you are dry shaving this may be a good meaning of cleaning the razor. Note: Use caution as to where you place the SmartClean System due to possible leakage of the cleaning fluid, if the SmartClean System is tilted slightly, and have a towel handy when removing the shaver from the cleaning system. I don’t have a electrical plug in my bathroom so I placed the SmartClean System on a wood cabinet in the bedroom, when I removed the shaver from the SmartClean System there was a fair amount of cleaning fluid in the shaver head and it dripped out on our floor. With time, and trial & error, we’ll see if my skin gets accustomed to the 7940 shaver. I did get a very close shave and I found I became better at using the Philips 7940 Razor quickly. Using a little Aloe Vera Gel after shaving relieves any irritation which is getting less with each shave.

Razor works well, Bluetooth instructions vague

I've been using a prior version of this style Philips Norelco razor for years and decided to go with a new one instead of replacing the heads on mine again. Opening the box, everything was packaged well. The razor is right at the top packaged inside the travel case. Underneath this is the cleaning/charging station, with the power cord and trimmer heads inside smaller cardboard sections on either side. First step was charging the razor since it came with a low charge indicator. I did this through the power cord only. I'll wait to use the cleaning station until a later date. While it was charging, I went ahead and downloaded the GroomTribe app to my iPhone and logged into my existing account. I figured I'd go ahead and take care of the warranty registration through the app but got a message the razor wasn't connected. Once the charging was complete, I opened the app and turned on the razor. First step was to check the Bluetooth devices on my phone for a new pairing request. Nothing there and another attempt at the warranty registration got the same message. So, off to the instructions. The first step in the Preparing for use section is Pairing the shaver and smartphone. 1. Download the app. Check 2. Make sure Bluetooth on the smartphone is switched on. Check 3. Switch on the shaver. Check 4. Open the app and follow the instructions to start the pairing process. This is where it becomes vague. Opening the app, there are no instructions. At the top you have the Account symbol, the Shaver symbol and a message symbol. The shaver symbol takes you to the Shaver Link, where you'll find the warranty registration link that you can't use until paired, The Account Link and a Support Link. Then there's the Shaver Symbol, no instructions there and the same for the Message Symbol, but there is a screen for a shaving assessment; “I feel...irritation” with a slider bar for the degree of irritation ranging from None to High. After about 15 minutes of repeatedly trying all the various links including the support link. Locking the razor which turns off the Bluetooth and then unlocking to turn it back on and hoping to either see it in my devices list for pairing or to find the instructions had magically appeared in the app, I discovered you have to complete this first shaving assessment to get the pairing instructions to come up. This needs to be better documented in the razor's manual and support page. Once I successfully paired the razor, I hear a noticeable change in the speed of the heads, which I'm assuming was due to the fact I was at the low end of the irritation scale. Using the razor, I have to say I'm very happy with the overall shave. The area on my neck, just below my jawline never seemed to come out as well as the rest of my face with the old razor, but I can't really feel a difference after shaving with this new version. After using the razor, the first two days, I checked into the app again and reviewed the shave history. Both entries said to watch my time, indicating the duration of the shave was long. So maybe this is contributing to the occasional minor irritation I'm experiencing. The razor feels good in the hand, not too heavy or light and is slightly quieter than my older version. Other than the poor documentation for the initial Bluetooth pairing, I'm very happy with this razor.
