Not as close of a shave as Braun’s 900 series. It was quieter than the Braun.

This shaver works great in the wider areas of the face. But it doesn’t do a good in tight places (i.e. mustache/upper lips close to nose).

This is my third Philips shaver I have ever used in the last 14 years. Philips shavers have always been reliable and long lasting. Compared to my previous Philips Norelco premium product, this one is better. It employs a technology called SenseIQ and uses AI, I know it may sound gimmicky but it just works well. I almost never use shaving cream as I shave in dry condition. Each time I got satisfying results with no skin irritation. Philips employ special protective coating to shield face from irritation and this is important when we glide to shave our facial hair. Using shaving cream would probably yield better result but I have no need to use them because dry shaving works well. The rule is simple, use the trimmer first if your facial hair are not short. The battery is long lasting enough for more than a couple of shavings. The cleaning pod keeps the shaver cleans. Based on my experience using older generation of premium Norelco shaver, the blade remains sharp even when you only use tap water to clean the shaver. For optimum cleaning, Philips recommends you to use their cleaning cartridge that will rinse the shaver with their special cleaning liquid. Reliability of product is an important factor in making my decision when purchasing a shaver and the Norelco Shavers deliver on that point with minimum maintenance involved. There is also an app so you can personalize your shave even better. The pop-up trimmer is also extremely useful if you don’t shave regularly every couple of days. The shaver also supports voltage up to 240v, not just 110v, so it is travel friendly as we can plug the shaver safely into any power outlet in the hotel when traveling outside the US. Overall, this is a very nice product.

The Philips 9500 shaver is yet another step up in the series. My current razor is the 9000 and it has been a very nice shaver. The 9500 is every bit as good as my older shaver and also adds the addition of a pop up trimmer and a nice head cleaning canister and a fairly hard sided travel case. The new head design shave extremely close and so far, I have had no irritation from this razer. I have sensitive skin and I am very impressed. The shaver includes a separate button that allows you to lock the unit for travel and make some adjustments. There is also a ring that gives you a visual indication of how much pressure you are applying as you shave. The head on this unit does not appear to be compatible with the older models, so you will have to replace it with a new head designed for this series when the time comes. This is a very nice razor that gives an excellent shave.

Around 20 years ago I purchased the Phillips Norelco Spectra 8825XL, a triple-header rechargeable wet/dry shaver. I have never had to buy another electric razor, and have been using it almost daily since. So when I had the opportunity to acquire the Philips Norelco 9500 Rechargeable Wet/Dry Electric Shaver with Quick Clean, Travel Case, and Pop up Trimmer, I jumped on it. I figured it was time to retire my old faithful razor and get a more modern version. As I unpacked it from the box, I was struck by how much "stuff" there was inside. The razor, the cleaning station and solution, charging cable, storage case, cleaning brush and documentation. Norelco recommends downloading the app, so that was my first step after fully charging the razor. Charging took less than one hour. I downloaded the app and explored it thoroughly. There are a ton of relevant resources available in and through the app...everything from how to get a good shave, how long it will take before your face adapts to the razor to get the closest and most comfortable shave possible, and even has a neat sub-app that will give you an idea of what you might look like with certain beard styles. The app tracks shaving activity...how well you did on pressure application, the circular motions, and so forth. Then it basically grades you on your performance with percentage indicators. And for the die-hard techie, you can even monitor your shave WHILE you are shaving using your smart phone. The real test came the next morning when I actually used the razor to shave. When you pick up the shaver, the display automatically activates letting you know how much charge is left on the battery. Using the button at the bottom of the display, you can cycle through several different information displays. I just turned it on and began to shave. Since I was familiar with the documentation and other information, I knew that I was looking for the light to be green. I experimented quite a bit with this feature, purposely using too much pressure and too little. The light changed accordingly. The shaver operates at about the same loudness and my old electric razor, and that is not overly loud. In the end I found the shave to be remarkably close. My overall evaluation: The one thing I had to keep in mind was that this is a smart razor. As such, it is a more involved and intense experience that let's say, an old-style electric razor or disposable bladed razor. One would have to ask if the wealth of feedback and information is necessary. Again, this is a smart razor, and smart products are purposely designed and marketed as information providers. On this level, the S9500 does an outstanding job of giving the user all the information he could possibly want. I can see that the usage of the app would diminish over time as I become trained in the proper use of the razor, making the app less necessary. The shave itself was not as close as my other Philips Norelco electric razor, but I remember that when I first started using that one, my shaves weren't all that close then either. It took a good two or three weeks for my face and skin to adjust to the razor. I can see this will be the same. I can say however that there was zero noticeable irritation, which was impressive. The one and only "negative" aspect of the razor is that it just doesn't get under the nose very well. Unlike many of its predecessors, the S9985 was designed with a more box-like design on the shaving heads, whereas others utilize a more rounded design, allowing closer access. The trimmer works quite well, and can actually be used to remove hair from the ears. One thing I absolutely love about this razor is that I can use it in the shower or tub. I like the fact that it won't work if the power cord is plugged in, which will hopefully discourage folks from trying to use it like that when it is plugged in.I noticed that the complete shave used about 10% of the available power. This would mean I can expect around 10 shaves on one charge, give or take. I also love the cleaning aspect of the system! I am looking forward to the long term results of this cleaning system to see just how well it holds up. Knowing myself, I probably won't clean it after every use because there are just those mornings when I am running late. So that will add to the test as well. All in all, this is a great razor. It feels good in the hand, shaves without irritation, provides useful feedback, and is obviously a very well-made product. Even the storage case is top-notch. I like the floating head design which allows for close contact to the face, even around the chin and other contoured areas. This truly is a top-notch razor, and I have complete faith that it will last twenty years just like my other Philips Norelco razor. I would heartily recommend the Philips Norelco 9500 Rechargeable Wet/Dry Electric Shaver to all my friends and family.

    Super Close Shave!

I've been using electric razors for approximately 50 years, so I consider myself an expert. I have owned every major brand on the market and I'm very pleased to say that this Philips razor is awesome. This product offers superior closeness, can be used wet or dry, is powered by a lithium battery (with fast charge capabilities), a one touch button to quickly open and clean the razor, a pressure guard sensor, and some other great features. The bottom line is that this product is capable of giving you a really, really close shave with no facial irritation. To me this is what it's all about and everything else is secondary. Don't get me wrong, as the razor has great features, but I judge how well a razor shaves and the results you wind up with. The comfort level is amazing, and it did not pull my facial hair when shaving as other razors tend to do. Run times are LONG and the digital display gives you a read-out of the percentage of the remaining battery. This razor is really on the quiet side duration operation and is probably one of the quietest razors that I have used. The product has a nice comfortable feel in your hand while using. It feels well balanced and seems very well constructed. The shaving heads float and follow the contours of my face. Shaving near my nostril openings is always a challenge as I find it difficult to shave in this area and get good results. Enter the Philips 9500 which easily handled the challenge. Shaving the hair in this area was a lot easier with less shaving passes needed to do the job. I'm very happy with this product as it performed flawlessly and offered up nothing but the best of shaves. This by far is the best razor that I have ever used in my life. Shaves are really close and in fact I have never ever experienced a closer shave. Using it wet or dry is a real plus. Philips has a winner on its hands!
