Super Happy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know how many people are buying this more for the hair clipping function than the beard trimming one, but that's what I needed and I am more than happy after the first use. For starters, if you're moving over from a corded clipper to this one you will immediately appreciate the simple fact that there's no cord to have to deal with or have draped over your shoulders as someone cuts your hair. It also just gives you way more flexibility about where you set up to do a haircut in your house by not needing to have access to an outlet. The razor's lightweight. It's balanced. It just feels good in the hand and it had absolutely no problem holding a solid charge for a 20+ minute haircut. The guards are incredibly simple to get on and off, and adjusting the length even further is as simple as turning a knob. On the receiving side of things, there was absolutely no discomfort. The guard is smooth and the blades didn't yank my hair. It was an easy and comfortable experience. My wife, who has a lot of experience with clippers from grooming dogs, was impressed by how little vibration there is with these clippers and how they didn't get hot at all over the duration of my haircut. It's a solid win all around if you're looking for a way to keep your hair short without paying a barber $30 bucks every few weeks. I can add that I'm one of those guys who doesn't like to shave but also doesn't want a beard. I went about 8 or 9 days without shaving and decided to give the beard trimmer a try just for the heck of it. Because of the adjustable length I was able to find one that worked perfectly despite my facial hair not being all that long. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the hair was long enough that it would have hurt using my normal electric razor; anything over a few days growth results in some painful pulling when using that guy. But with this one it was again insanely smooth and took things down to a very short stubble with no effort, and in no time, at all. It's kind of ridiculous to have two electric razors for shaving one face but... I am 100% going to use this method again in the future. This razor for the long hair, the other for the close shave. I swear it will save time overall compared to using the dedicated shaving razor alone. It should be obvious, but I'd enthusiastically buy this again. Great product!

Lightweight, portable, and effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m a relatively lazy shaver. I can’t grow much of a beard either, and the longer I let it grow, the uglier and patchier it looks. A beard trimmer is a necessity for me because it allows me to avoid the pain of having to use a razor, but at the same time at least keeps things looking decent. Enter the BT5502. It comes with three guards, two which are intended for beard maintenance, and the third which can be used for trimming hair. A neat twist on the 5502 is that it also adjustable, so you aren’t just limited to what the guards can do. For example, the short beard guard can actually reach from 1/64” to 25/64” using an adjustment built into the 5502. The long beard guard (and man, I am envious of you who can grow a full beard this long!) can trim lengths from 13/32” to 25/32”. The hair guard is also capable of cutting the same length as the long beard guard. In practice, the BT5502 was extremely easy to use. It charged in less than an hour. It already had the short beard guard on it, so I adjusted it slightly (the dial on the BT5502 will tell you how much is going to be trimmed off) and trimmed a week’s growth of beard in just a few minutes. One thing I really liked about the BT5502 was the evenness of the trim. I’ve had other beard trimmers that cut really short around my chin area while leaving the other spots at a uniform closeness. Made things look kind of funny. But the BT5502 was as uniform a trimmer as I have had in my bathroom. I highly recommend.

Next level Norelco.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always used Norelco shavers and I enjoy how they keep reinventing the wheel. In this case, it comes in the form of a new type of card that goes in front and around the blade. Not only that it couples in with it a height adjuster for the main blade. Furthermore, right out of the box it's not charged so fair warning there. Get it on a charger as soon as you get it out. However, I let it sit for about 6 hours and it was ready to go. Shaves you very close and without nicking you. How did it under the sink to clean it as I shaved and the hair came right out. Didn't seem the least bit difficult to clean, keep clean or use. From this point I think this is going to be my go-to shaver. Just got to play with it a little and find out which guard goes with which look. Guys, if you have a tendency to go with a full beard, an all around, just a mustache or whatever combination of facial hair you guys like to roll with this is a great shaver. My only complaint is that it doesn't come unlike a holster or a self-cleaning tool. I think an optional charging bay that you can stick it face down and clean. It would be a very welcomed and cool addition. But other than that, I'd be proud to buy this again.

Great Beard trimmer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Phillips Norelco Beard and Hair Trimmer is great trimmer, minus one little feature. The Norelco series 5000 is loaded with many different features, as well as accessories. In the box you get 3 different attachments, and the charging cord. The trimmer is fully waterproof, which makes it easy to clean, just run it under water. The stainless steel self-sharpening blades are designed to be able to cut through the thickest hair with just a single pass. The battery states that it lasts 90 minutes on a single charge, with only 1-hour to fully charge it. Not to mention there are 40 different adjustment sizes (why someone would need that many, is anyone’s guess but it’s nice to have the options). The only thing that this trimmer is missing is the built-in vacuum. In my opinion, I think the vacuum should be mandatory in all beard trimmers seeing how messy it is. The first thing I did was plug in the trimmer to give it a full charge before my first use. Now the box claims it has a 1-hour quick charge, but it took about 3-4 hours to fully charge. I’m not sure where there getting those numbers, but I was nowhere near one hour... The first time I used the trimmer it felt amazing, the way it was able to glide over my face with ease was so soothing. I have thick facial hair, and this was able to trim it off perfectly without any knicks or snags. While I really appreciate the 40 different size options, this can be a bit confusing when trying to find that preferred length. The trimmer does cut with precision, especially when shaping and trimming my beard. I had amazing control over it the whole time. The only problem is the amount of hair I had all over my shirt and sink, this is where the built-in vacuum would have been nice. Other than that, I was left feeling good. Overall, I think the Norelco 5000 is a great beard trimmer. The battery does last a long time, but the 1-hour quick charge seems to be a little off in my case. There are plenty of different size options for anyone’s satisfaction, plus with the extra attachments you can trim any size beard. This not only trims with ease, but it is incredibly accurate as well and the sharp blades won’t cause any knicks or snags while trimming. The only thing I wish this had is a built-in vacuum to catch all the hair trimmings. Otherwise, this is a great trimmer, and I highly recommend it.

Works well for what it is!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice, easy to use, cordless trimmer. It is fairly quiet and the battery life is quite good. Setup: not much. Basically you just charge it up, and click on which trimmer guard you want to use. Use: you can use this trimmer with one of the three guards, or without a guard at all. I have a “stubble” look, so I use the shortest guard which has an adjustment between 0.4mm and 10mm. The longer guards go all the way up to 20mm. They are very easy to change out, simply grab the guard and pull it off and click the new one in. There is a spin dial that you turn to change the height of the guard and adjust beard length. Besides the at, there is a single on/off push button. Cleaning: this is one of the first trimmers I’ve owned that I don’t have to oil. I hated having to oil my old trimmers. This unit claims it’s self sharpening, so time will tell with that. Otherwise you run under water, and use the included little brush to keep the trimmer blades clean. Easy peasy. Overall: I like this trimmer. The only thing I wish it had was something that could catch the hair. There is stubble everywhere when I’m done. That’s the only complaint.

Clean smooth shaves
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer and Hair Clipper Series 5000 is pretty nice. I have a longer beard, so I had to comb it thoroughly for a better shave. The blade guards weren't as good as I thought, but they still did the job. I have a straight hair type, and I still got tangled up in guard. So if your beard is considerably longer, it might get tangled in guards. They are not strong enough, in my opinion. I did love the rolling blade adjustment. It made for clear blade height with the numbers on the dial. So it got the job done uninterrupted. The included guards made my shave easy and clean. The trimmer design is not built for wet use, so not ideal for use in the shower. But it has a great blade design. But you can clean under running water. The battery life is excellent. So not much downtime. For the most part, I looked, but I will look for a better, firmer trimmer for my beard type. I wish it came with a carry case, but I was out of luck. It fully charges quickly, and there is a five-minute quick charge. It would still be an excellent gift for any man who loves a groomed beard.

Handy Trimmer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used the trimmer cordless. The cordless allows you to move around and gives more freedom of position. The trimmer for the beard is pretty good and the trimming is pretty precise. I love the way it cuts the part when cutting the hair. You are able to make good lines and edging with it. Trimming the mustache is pretty precise and clean. The adjustments of the different combs are helpful with the different sizes. The dialer helps adjust the length of the trimmer from the comb. I like the handle of the trimmer, it has a steadiness to it. Was able to cut hair more evenly, without having to keep looking at what I was doing. When cutting did it in phases. Overall the trimmer is very easy to clean. While the combs do need more cleaning, because the hair can get caught up in the comb. However, you are able to easily slide it out by hand or the cleaning brush. PROS: Easy to clean Edging Portability Handling Adjustabel Comb Length CONS: Doesn't cut like a barber with think hair Have to cut in short motions to cut it even

A great beard trimmer and hair clipper
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was provided a unit as a part of the Technical Insider Network. Off the top, the Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer and Hair Clipper is a well-built trimmer. Even though it's made of both metal and plastic, it does not feel cheap when you are using it. One important note: the device does show that it is washable, but not waterproof, so if you are looking for a device that can be used in the shower, this might not be the device for you. The Trimmer/Clipper has three main attachments. However, that does not mean your choices are limited as far as only three levels. Towards the middle of the device, there is a manual zoom wheel that adjusts the head by a couple of millimeters in one direction or another. This allows incredibly specific trims and cuts. Another aspect that I really enjoy is that you can use this device whether it is charging or not. This is pretty important when you first unbox the device, as it does not contain an initial charge. I am also looking forward to see how the self-sharpening blades hold up over time. All in all, this is a very utilitarian device that I recommend.

OK trimmer. Could be better.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Philips beard trimmer is cordless with included accessories. It comes with 3 guards, which you can also adjust with the adjusting knob on the front of the unit. It does not come with a carrying pouch or bag, like other trimmers I’ve purchased from other manufacturers. The build quality os decent. It’s on par with other cordless bear and hair trimmers I’ve purchased in the past. The noise level is about average. It’s not too loud while also not being whisper quiet. The trimmer is cordless, however it doesn’t have as much power as I anticipated. It cuts OK when using the guard to trim my beard, but it didn’t seem to have enough speed and power to make lines outlining my mustache and beard. I tried using the trimmer without the guard attachments to outline my mustache and trim the small hair on my neck. It didn’t do a very good job. This was after I made sure the beard trimmer was fully charged. I had to resort to using my plug-in trimmers. The Philips cordless trimmer has potential, but is not really suing my needs.
