The Philips Norelco Portable Shaver is the perfect size for trips. The shave is exceptionally close, and the blades are more easily around your jawline. This razor was simple to use and gave a clean shave. It is silent and catches the hair, so you don’t leave a mess. The battery life is exceptional, with just 5 minutes plugged in from a dead battery enough for one shaving session. It’s also rated IPX7, making it water/shower-proof, in addition to being washable. It does charge via USB, but it doesn’t utilize a standard connecter like USB C. If you lose the cord, it cannot easily be replaced immediately. The traveling case is compact but does not have enough room to carry the charging cable. Overall, the Philips Norelco Portable Shaver is a great option for traveling. It’s compact, has excellent battery life, and is a good shaver. The only letdown for me was the charging cable. It just means another cable you have to carry and keep track of. A USB C charging port would have been more convenient and accessible to replace if it had ended up missing.

Small and Light Shaver with Great Battery Life

This is a compact but very capable shaver that's easy to use! Design The Philips Norelco Compact Shaver has a clean look. I think it's a good fit in my hand. There's a lid that goes on the bottom, over the port for the power cord when you're using it or over the top when it's not being used. There's one easy to see and use button. Just press the button to turn it on and press it again to turn it off. There's an indicator LED that indicates the battery status. There are no grips on it, the sides are smooth plastic, but I haven't had any issues with it slipping while I'm holding it. The lid snaps on the top well but is easy to take off. When you put it on the bottom there is barely enough friction to hold it on. It's held on with my hand pretty well anyway while I shave and if it did come off it wouldn't be a big deal. I do like having it on the bottom while I use it to keep the water out of the charging port. Snapping on the top is more important I think, to keep the blades clean while traveling, and it does that well. The top assembly that holds the blades pulls off to clean and snaps back on nicely. A USB cable type A cable is included to charge it. The end that connects to the shaver is not USB, so you will need this cable, but finding a place to charge it should be easy because of the USB port. It also comes with a very nice hard, zippered, case that's a hard case but almost soft to the touch. Comfort and Shave I find it very comfortable to hold in my hand and easy to shave with. While it's compact, it's not at all too small. I've been using it daily and I'm very happy with how it works and the close shave it gives me. It is made to be a wet or dry shaver. You can use it in the shower if you want. I don't use it in the shower but I do shave with water. I don't use any shaving cream or after shave, even before this shaver, and I'm very happy with the results. Battery Life The box says the battery will last for 2 months when shaving a minute a day. I'm not sure if I'm unusual but it takes me longer than a minute to shave. Still, if the battery lasts for about 60 minutes, I can probably get two weeks out of it and that's great! Really, for such a portable shaver, I think that's excellent battery life! I wouldn't need to charge it for most of my vacations. Summary I'm planning to use the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver as my primary shaver, since it gives me a great shave and has excellent battery life. I wish the lid would stay on the bottom better but that's not really a problem. The travel case is a great bonus and I love the USB cable which makes it convenient to charge anywhere. If your looking for a travel shaver or even a new shaver to use daily at home, I think the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver is an excellent choice!

    Compact and convenient travel shaver

I got rid of my last electric shaver decades ago and never looked back, but the new Philips Norelco “on the go” travel shaver pulled me back in to try an electric shaver again. Its compact size and long battery life are designed to go with you so you can shave whenever you need to do so. In the box you’ll find the shaver (already charged) along with a nice, zipped travel case and charging cable. The case does not have room for the cable, but that’s to make it as small as possible for just taking the razor with you. Charging requires a USB-A wall adapter, which is not included in the box. Norelco says that a full charge lasts for 60 minutes, and that’s probably accurate. I’ve been using it for the last 10 days on the same charge, and it’s going strong. That’s especially nice for something that you will be taking with you, since you might not want to have to worry about charging it in your car. Let’s talk about why you would buy one of these, and that’s shaving. The smaller size means that there are only two shaving heads, not the traditional three. Obviously, that’s a good thing because it makes it smaller, and it does fit easily in the hand. Norelco recommends moving the shaver in a circular motion to allow the blades to cut from all directions, and this does in fact make for better performance. This shaver is completely waterproof, which I love. One reason is because it makes it super easy to clean after each use—just take it apart and run the heads and body under the water. That’s it! Another reason I love the waterproofing is that I can use it in the shower, or with shaving cream. This makes the shaver very versatile and allows you to use it in the way you prefer. I tried it all 3 ways: dry, in the shower, and with shaving cream. Dry is the quickest and most convenient, but I think it may actually get a little closer with the use of shaving cream. Regardless, it's nice to have options to use it however best works for you. The instructions say that it can take 21 days for your beard hairs to adjust to this type of shaving, especially if you’re coming from a traditional razor and shaving cream. I’m not quite up to 21 days yet, but I’ve gone more than 10 days so far and I can definitely tell that the closeness of the shaves is getting better. Overall, however, I wouldn’t say that this shaver can get as close as a non-electric razor, but it’s quite good. Could this replace those disposable razors and shaving cream? That depends on what you value most. If you would like to break free of having to be at a sink in order to shave, then this will set you free. Its small size and long battery life will allow you to shave while commuting to work, saving time. It’s also great for a quick touch-up in the middle of the day before that important meeting, when it wouldn’t be practical to go to the restroom and lather up for a shave. To me, that’s one of the biggest reasons to use a shaver like this one. If you value the ability to get the closest shave possible, I’m not sure that any electric shaver can beat a regular razor, but no regular razor can beat the convenience of an electric shaver. There’s also the benefit of not having to worry about nicking your skin like is so common with a regular razor. Norelco says the blades are self-sharpening, but also recommends replacing them every year. I’m hoping that they’ll actually last longer than a year, but we’ll see. If I continue to get closer shaves as time goes on, I’ll be very happy to leave my razors and shaving cream behind.

Great Razer for Travel and Touch-Ups & Shower Use

This Philips Norelco Compact Shaver is something I can tell you already will get a lot of use, whether for travel (less to carry) or for 'touch ups' beyond the morning shave. It is noticeably light and it has two rotating blades, which are easier on the skin than I expected, like the 3-blade Philips Norelco ("Care Touch") razer I had been using (replacement blades are easy to find for that one, so it's lasted quite some time). The charger for this device is a USB cord, which unfortunately does not seem to store in the case for this device, so I will have to try extra hard not to lose it (though it looks like it will fit the same power adapter as most other Philips Norelco shavers I've used). It features a lock mode (turned on and off by long holding the power button) to prevent it from accidentally turning on, such as while it's packed with a lot of luggage that might press against the button (my toothbrush could "use" a lock mode like this has). With a battery that lasts two months, you can just fully charge it before any trip and expect it to be good for most trips without bringing the charger. The compact shaver being waterproof, I can see myself using this in the shower and getting two things done at once. I can recommend this one because it comes from a brand I trust and have used for decades, is light and portable, and cuts well enough for a razer its size. I might not recommend this for everyday use, as a 3-blade model might cut better/faster, but for touch ups and travel use this is terrific.

For a two rotary blade razor, this does a remarkable job. The more you use it the better you get at hitting the hair lines left between the blades. A circular motion, like most rotary blade razors, probably works the best. I use a slightly tighter circle than with 3 or more rotary blades. I do have some gripes, not all sunshine and roses. I am allergic to roses, so that would be a separate gripe. The charging cable is proprietary to USB A. I have already misplaced it once. Using a USB type C on the charging side would have been a much better choice considering how many of those I have laying around. Beyond the cable, no charging brick. You could charge off a laptop or anything with a type A connector. Sadly my laptop is type C. The case is very nice, but too small to carry the charging cable, the entire reason I misplaced the cable from the previous comment. The last gripe is a couple bits on the design. The power button is right where I hold the unit while shaving. Needless to say, I power off at least 3 time per shave. Moving the power to the lower part of the razor or on the bottom would make more sense. The other design flaw is the cover and the blade housing fitting. The cover will stay when covering the blade, but it fits on the bottom of the razor while in use but not snug enough to stay. Trying to remove the blade housing to clean inside is a fight. It fits really tight and is very hard to remove. On the good side, battery life is great as long as you don't lose the cable. This is a good thing. But could be bad if you forget where you stored the cable since it doesn't fit in the case. I would recommend to most. But if you have a grip problem, you may not be able to clean the inside of the razor.

    On-the-Go or Everyday Shaver

The Philips Norelco Compact Shaver is a fantastic on-the-go shaver. It truly is compact with a nice protective hard leather case. I think it is a good everyday shaver too. It contoured to my face and shaved closer than my three headed Philips Norelco. Philips recommends trimming no more than a 3 day growth but I used it wet and dry on a 7 day growth. Sure it probably took a little longer but wet or dry it was a nice close shave. That really shows that this shaver can be clutch in an emergency. It did go quicker and smoother with some shaving cream but the end product was the same. I didn't have any skin irritation with either method either. I noticed the heads got a little gummed up with the shaving cream but a quick run under the sink let me finish. I wish the case accommodated the charging cable to make it better for someone always on the go. Two annoyances about charging are that it has a special connector instead of a universal one and it doesn't come with a wall wart. I like that it has a travel lock though. Cleaning was quick and easy. Most of the hair is captured in the chamber but for a longer beard some started to fall out. Then pulling the heads off and rinsing the insides was easy just not conducive to packing it up right away. Even though it's compact this shaver would be perfect if there was a small trimmer for mustache and side burns. It could really handle every situation and go everywhere with that little addition. Regardless, I like this shaver way more than I thought and quickly upgraded it to my daily shaver instead of only on travel. I would recommend this unless you're looking for something a little more all in one. But for a simple clean shaved look anytime this is a must.

The razor was exactly what I was looking for, a small profile so that I could travel with it and not have to worry about taking up too much space. The quality of the shave was quite good as well, very smooth shaving, and it was easy to handle. The shape and size was good and actually easier to maneuver than some longer thinner models I have had. Cleaning and maintenance was easy also and it looks like swapping out blades and our screens shouldn't be a problem. The included cord was long enough to allow a decent distance from out let without feeling like I was reeling in a fishing line to put away when finished. The weight was distributed well and it was about like handling a heavy bar of soap or a large anti-perspirant or deodorant stick. I also thought it was relatively quiet for the form factor and the vibration from the motor didn't seem excessive. All in all, it is a very nice travelling razor and I certainly needed one. Even If I don't travel, I expect to use this frequently at home, particularly if I need to clean up quick.

I like to use an electric razor when I'm traveling but don't always like carrying around a rather bulky unit. This device solves that problem by providing the quality of Norelco's razors in a very compact unit. It includes a nice carry case and charges quickly with the included USB-C to USB charge cord. The charge indicator light lets you conveniently see the charging status. The blades are protected by a fully protected cap. It fits very securely and takes some effort to remove. My first attempt sent the razor heads flying out. They were easily replaced, and I like the fact they can be popped off to clean with water. The unit is completely waterproof and can be used in the shower. The way it is shaped, I like the fact you can prop it up on either end or lay flat. This is big deal when traveling when you may have limited space to setup your shaving supplies. It has a loud buzz and powerful sound. It shaves about as good as my full size 3 blade unit. Is an excellent choice when traveling or looking for a fast shave.

I like this trimmer a lot more than some of the other compact and portable trimmers I’ve tried. The construction is nice and doesn’t feel cheap, and I can say the same about the carrying case. It’s easy to disassemble the head to clean it out when necessary, and when in use it glides well without getting stuck or causing nicks. I am glad that there are two blades rather than just one - it allows the trimmer to stay compact but keeps it from having low enough performance to be only really useful for touchups. Part of me thinks that the carrying case would be better if it had room to hold the charger cable as well, but the battery life is honestly good enough that I think it’s fine without it. Overall, I really like this trimmer. It doesn’t feel cheaper for being a compact model, just a smaller version of the same thing I’m used to, with the same good performance. The case is really nice, and it’s the perfect size and shape to toss in the bottom of a bag and carry about with you. I’d absolutely recommend keeping one of these around for situations where you’re out and about and need a trim, or for travel.

    • Portability This portable electric shaver is great for travel and can fit in some of my pockets but easily fits in your bag without taking up much space. If you're worried about it turning on in your bag you can set a travel lock to avoid that mishap. • Performance I noticed that it didn't provide the smoothest shave but it was enough to clean up the facial hair and create distinct lines to separate overgrowth in some parts of the face and shape the beard. • Battery Life I haven't had to charge this shaver and the claims are that it can last up to 2 months on a single charge. I don't use it for more than a minute at a time since I use it for the overgrowth instead of doing a complete shave. If you're in a need of a quick shave and you ran out of power, you can charge this shaver for 5 minutes and it'll give you enough for one full shave. • Comfort I will also mention that each time I have used this shaver I have done so without any shaving cream and the blades are comfortable and doesn't feel like it is pulling on my hairs. • Conclusion I really like this shaver simply for the portability factor. I can carry this around with me in my bag on my work trips without having to worry about bringing additional shaving cream of aftershave and can feel confident that I will still have enough power to last me a full trip. It is also very convenient to be able to quick charge in a facial hair emergency.

I have been traveling more a day or two at a time and I saw this shaver as a way to cut back on luggage space. Generally I use a 4 foil style shaver, and prefer foils in general. I had a norelco rotary dhaver before my current main shaver for about 15 years, but barely used it because I thought it did not get that close, and it irritated me more than a foil. I saw this and I liked the size and price on it, so I figured I'd give it a try. It comes with a USB proprietary charging cord, no brick, the shaver, and a little travel case. Pretty standard. The feel/build on this is good, doest feel slippery, and not flimsy. Build is a lot like regular daily use shaver. That being said, using this reminds me again of why I don't like rotary shavers. I have a slow grow beard, my sparse shoter wiskers I seem to have to hover over and rotate the unit a lot over the spot i’m shaving before it nips the hair. That leads to more irritation. Getting up under the nose for the mustache region is not as easy, I feel I don't get as close with because the blade is away from the edge a bit. All that being said, my purpose for this will be traveling, and generally I don't travel for business as much as I used to, mainly visiting family and such. I generally only shave every other day when I do travel, and that is where I think this will function better. I remember these rotary blades struggle with short on me, but about 48 hours it did an acceptable job. The rpm’s on this seem a bit slower than my old one, but I think it’s the actually same because it is very quiet. That will work well if sharing a room with my family on vacation. I get up earlier than them and this won't wake them. I should have went with a small single foil shaver like my very first one I had 30 plus years ago. It was slightly bigger, but probably worth it. Again, I know this is more of a travel/touch up shaver and it's my face type that likely makes it not as effective. It does what it supposed to do, but for me I should have chose another. I will keep this and use it as intended, but I would not reccomend this to friends and family. It loses points in function and performance for me. Keeps it's score in value, build, size, and purpose. I like how quiet it is also. It's 3 of 5 stars for me.

    For Shaving in a Pinch

I don't travel as much as I used to, but packing my full-size shaver was always kind of a pain because of the real estate it took in my toiletry bag. Enter the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver. It is about half the size when loaded in its carrying case as my full size shaver. That alone is a big win as I don't generally carry a large bag so space is always a premium. The unit is a twin blade model and is a slim rectangular build. It feels comfortable in the hand and is pretty lightweight. Battery operation seems good and should probably allow for at least a week of shaving if you are doing it once a day. Comes with a nice compact case and really does feel like a nice package. So why only three stars? Well, the point of a shaver is to shave and that is where it is pretty middle of the road. In a pinch it does the job, but it takes several passes and starts to irritate my skin to get a close shave. If you are someone who only wants to do quick touch-ups and leave it your car then this shaver has your name written all over it. If you want to travel with it as a replacement for a larger shaver you have at home then keep your expectations in check. Again, it will get the job done, but it won't be the closest shave. Overall, I think what Philips Norelco has done here is a solid job for a niche audience. Just know what you are getting into.

I was looking forward to using the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver. It came in a a very nice zippered travel case. First impression, of the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver, it has a nice solid feel, while being compact. I currently have and had many Norelco hair care products and have generally been satisfied and impressed. Unfortunately, the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver, I feel was kind of a let down. It has two parallel, floating shaver heads, which requires overlapping motion to get all facial hairs. The floating head springs seem kind of soft, which does not apply enough pressure for a close shave. The floating heads actually sink below the surface level of the shaver, which basically guarantees not being a close shave. The surface of the shaver doesn't glide across moist skin as well. Completely dry skin it glides satisfactorily. I can't comment on lubricated skin. Overall, the Philips Norelco Compact Shaver just would not be my shaver of choice for a travel shaver. I would and have packed other Norelco for travel use. The nice compact size does not justify it being a recommended travel charger. Would it work in a pinch, yes. But not a go to shaver.
