This is my first foray into specific head shavers. When the Phillips Norelco head shaver pro 5000 came around, I snatched it up quickly. I usually use a regular shaver I bought years ago to shave my head, but it's always a hassle with hair going everywhere making a mess. The head shaver pro 5000 fixes this and makes the whole process easy. The packaging was done very well. The box neatly contained the shaver, cord and travel pouch with a small brush. Usually there is extra packaging or booklets that are not needed. I know this isn’t a huge factor, but like the shaver itself, cuts right to what is needed which is appreciated. I believe the full charging time was around an hour as the shaver had no juice left. My personal experience was a learning one right from the start. My hair was about a half inch when I initially tried to use the shaver pro and didn’t work well at all. I learned quickly that this shaver is for close shaves only! After an initial shave, I used the pro 5000 and have to say it was the closest shave on my head I have ever had. The shaver took only a few minutes to shave my whole head and I was finished. Now unlike other hair shavers, I know this is to be used more often to keep that close shave on my noggin. I waited a few days to write this review because I wanted to use it again to verify my experience. I also want to point out that the Pro 5000 can also be used in the shower as well, very nice. I have ruined other shavers with water, so this is a nice +. If you are looking for a head shaver to be bald and beautiful, then this will at least make you nicely bald. I recommend the Norelco head shaver pro 5000 to anyone looking for a good close head shave.

The Philips Norelco Head Shaver Pro 5000 is a great head shaver with no major complaints. It's easy to use and works great. Cleaning is a little bit of a hassle compared to other shavers, but it's because of the design of the head shaver and how the shaving heads are attached. This is not a huge issue and is easily solved once you get used to the design. Other than the issue cleaning, there are no huge issues with the shaver itself and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality head shaver that is easy to use and works well. My only real gripe, is that I don't like Philips decision to stop including a plug for their charger and instead including only a proprietary USB cable that requires you to either purchase a USB charger from them, which I'm sure is why they made this decision, or to use your own compatible charger. They of course also changed the cutouts on the plugs to make all older cables incompatible with these new devices, making it so that you have to use this new cable with a USB charging brick. This is only an annoyance to me that doesn't detract from the quality of the shaver itself, but it is a trend that is becoming more and more prevalent and annoying from large companies that purposely require you to purchase more items from them just to use the item you already purchased.

I have been eyeing a head shaver for the past couple of years but just never got around to getting one. So, I was excited to give this a try when it popped up in availability. I did not know what to expect but I had my expectations. I like the feel in the hands. The unit charged up quickly with the included power cable. I had let my hair grow out about a week to give this unit a little test. Right from the start this shaver did a pretty good job on my over night hair (little oily) so it did not grab the hair the best. I did not experience tugging or pulling which was one of my expectations. After getting most of my head done I moved on to my face not expecting much. This unit does not like facial hair that much or longer head hair. So, I proceeded to shower and go back to shaving after I dried off. I did not try this in the shower even though it is rated for such. Much better experience here! The shaver glided over my head and left a clean and smooth surface. I went over my scalp probably 4 or 5 times just for making sure I got all the hair. I feel like I was able to do all of this in 10 minutes and I am pretty impressed with this shaver.

Best shave you can get without a standard razor

As a guy who's been shaving his head since 2008, I can tell you I've tried almost all of the gimmicks and trends and standard ways to shave a head. Over that time, I have found one true way to get the best and closest shave...a classic razor. BUT best and closest comes with major downsides, the biggest being time. On top of that, a shave with a standard razor usually needs to take place in a shower, you need a sharp razor, some form of shaving cream/gel/conditioner, and hope you don't cut yourself. So yes, I do still believe the good ol fashioned razor gets me the best shave by the numbers, but in reality, I've spent years looking for that elusive second place shave. Enter Philips Norelco. Philips Norelco has put out a lot of different tools to shave almost all areas of the body and they've been doing it for a long time. They know what they're doing, usually. I have had some stinkers to be fair. But for the most part I have always had good luck with the brand. Actually, up until I got this razor, I was using a Philips Norelco face shaver with 3 blades and had decided it was the best way to quickly get a decently close shave - wet or dry. So when I saw this razor, I thought, ok, here's a brand I know and use everyday, with a new tool designed specifically for head shaving, I have to try it out. So enough backstory, what do I think about the product? Well I gave it 5 stars, but it's really more like 4.5 or 4.75. That's only because I have some questions about long term care. Not that I think it is made cheaply or will break easily, but because if you're not careful, you may end up with dull or maybe even rusty blades. Like I mentioned, up until now, I was using the same brands face shaver for my head and I liked that it had an easy flip top for the blades to rinse everything after a shave. I would leave it on the counter open to air dry. By the next day it was dry and ready to go. With this new head shaver pro 5000, (I will not be writing that full name out every time. Let's just say pro 5k) after finishing a shave, I removed the blades - which again was very easy, just lift with a little force and it clicks off - I rinsed everything off like the manual suggests and left the parts separated to air dry. About 30 hours later, I put the blades back in, again easy and quick snap, and started to shave my head. Since this razor and others I have had allow a dry shave and since my head is quite tough after years of shaving, the dry shave does not irritate my head and I do it often when time is a factor. I started to run the razor over my head and felt a cold damp resistance. Apparently, despite being left open in a dry area for more than 24 hours, there was still water trapped somewhere in the razor or blades and it was coming out as I shaved. This did happen more than once and I'm still trying to figure out how to get it dry enough to use the next day after rinsing it the day before. So, is this a deal breaker? Heck no. It's just a very long explanation of why I don't see this product as the end all be all, 5 stars, never buy another razor again item. But I also believe that product doesn't and will probably never exist. So the pro 5k is still impressive how close it gets to that mark. Besides the weird issues with water remaining trapped in the unit for extended periods of time, I am having very positive results with this razor. Like I mentioned, the brand is known for making good shaving products and this is no exception. The blades arrive sharp and ready to go and with a pretty quick charge, you can start shaving. I like the 4 blades that cover more area of the head but still flexible enough to get over all those round and rolly bumps that is the human skull. I didn't have any irritation, even when dry shaving. But when you add a little help from your preferred shaving cream ( I like good ol conditioner) and hot water, the shave is actually pleasing. This obviously is easier and less messy to do in a shower, which is fine because the pro 5k works just fine in a shower. It can not be submersed, so don't drop it in a sink full of water or a bath tub, but otherwise, it is water tight. The razor glides over your head smoothly getting as close as you can without a blade and leaving a surprisingly smooth scalp when finished. And because the blades cover so much area, you can be done in 5 minutes or less. Which is great because you can get a fast charge on a dead battery in about 5 minutes to give you 5 minutes of battery time. (according to the manual). I didn't try this yet because I wasn't able to drain the battery in the week I've been testing it, which means hey, great battery life at least. Cleaning is the other thing I want to talk about quickly because it appears this razor sells as two versions. One with a cleaning kit and one without. Mine does not have any additional cleaning tools, so I can not comment on them, but from the manual that includes instructions for the other version, it seems like the cleaning kit is just a bowl shaped like the razor head you put the razor in and run for a bit to clean it all. I have NO idea if it's more complicated than that, but for what it's worth, I think it's pretty easy to clean this razor with hot water under the sink and rinsing everything. And of course, every once in awhile you need to take it apart a bit more and thoroughly clean the blades and parts to keep it running in good condition. I can not speak on this products long term life because I've only had it about a week, but I can say my other philips norelco shaver in a similar price range has lasted many years. I've only had to replace blades obviously, but I did do proper maintenance and kept it dry and clean over that time. Some people may say the shape and handle of this razor is a bit awkward or bulky, and they may have an argument there. But I think once you get used to it, you will find it easy to handle and able to quickly get a close shave. The manual also mentions two convenient ways to hold the razor; by the handle or between your fingers right above the blades. I found this very useful, as I would hold it by the handle on my first pass to get everything knocked down and then switch my grip to get the final close shave. This isn't just about comfort for holding, it's because between the handle and the blades is a bit of a shock absorber. (That's where you wrap your fingers around in the secondary holding pattern.) So when you hold the handle, the blades are a bit more gentle and glide faster and easier. But when you hold it between your fingers and almost palm the blades, you remove that shock absorber and can get an even closer shave. But beware, this may cause irritation to more sensitive skin. Because of this, I use that hold sparingly and usually just at the end of my shave to get a close cut. Figure one quick pass over everything. OVERALL I think if you're willing to take care of you product, you can't go wrong with this brand. Replacing blades is easy and the included manual shows how to change them in detail. The shave is close and gentle but fast and easy. The included carrying pouch is high quality as well as the blade guard. The only real knock is it's USB charging cable but no included AC adapter brick. Yes yes, we all have them laying around right? Well, check those bricks, at this point most of them are so old they don't provide fast charging or even medium fast charging. I think companies should stop being greedy and start including ALL the parts needed to charge a product, but this is not solely a philips norelco issue so I'll move on. If you're looking for the best way to shave your head without using a traditional razor, I think the Head Shaver Pro 5000 from Philips Norelco is a really good choice. It is a bit bulky which may make traveling with it difficult but it gives you the shave you want every time in a quick and easy way.

I’ve been shaving my head for over 15 years now and I believe I’ve tried just about everything out there to make it easier. I’m currently using clippers and a shaper, requiring twice the work and still not a super close buz. I’ve also had numerous variations of the head shaver from a bunch of different companies and found they were very easily broken where the head and grip together. Enter the Philips Norelco Head Pro. There’s something to be said when a trusted shaving brand puts their engineering dollars into a specialty product like this one. It’s like Philips said “hold my beer” to all those other brands out there, and hit this one out of the park! First thing I noticed was the design is solid. No part of this unit feels cheap and it’s going to last. That makes it a great value for the price and a wonderful holiday gift for anyone who shaves their head. You’re probably wondering by now if it does a good job. After a quick charge, I put it immediately to work and turned a 5 day growth into a completely shaved head in less than half the time it takes me normally! You can feel the power adjusting depending on how much pressure you put on the head, and it constantly flexes to get the most surface area. All in all leaps and bounds than any product I’ve tried in this category previously.

I shave my head almost daily and I use a razor blade so I thought I’d give this Head Shaver Pro a try. My hair is thin so I figured this shaver should have no problems. My first try was a dry shave and to my disappointment, I couldn’t get a smooth shave even with multiple passes. I was hesitant to press harder but I did and that didn’t help. Some parts of my head were smoother than other spots. After a few attempts, I decided to try shaving with shaving cream. I got better results but it still was not a smooth shave I come to expect from a razor blade. Maybe I’m expecting too much from this razor but that’s what I was expecting. Especially from a Norelco product. There are others with 5 blades so maybe that will be better. It is built fairly descent with matte and glossy black plastic. The glossy plastic is slippery when wet so not sure why they went that knowing it will be used wet. It has an LED charging indicator but it does not have a battery charge indicator. I am actually disappointed that this shaver did not work for me.
