The only issue I have is the beard clipper is not built in any more and you need to change heads which is a bit annoying

The Norelco S9000 Prestige feels like a piece of art in your hand! It's thoughtful design is evident from the moment you open the box. The included hard-side, zippered case is a welcome improvement over other's cloth-bag solutions. The shaver charges quite quickly and the large, lighted display lets you know the status of your battery in real-time. The generous three head, pivoting, cutting unit is very comfortable and only requires a minimum application of pressure to deliver a very clean shave. Although the documentation warns that you may need some time for your face to adjust to the new razor I found it to be very gentle on my skin. I have a habit of giving my face a break over the weekend so my Monday morning stubble was a bit of a challenge for my old razor. Not so for the S9000! All-in-all a great product and well worth your consideration.

Best shave I've ever got out of an electric shaver

The S9000 Prestige is a no-nonsense electric shaver that gave me the best close to skin shave I've ever gotten out of an electric shaver. Usually, I end up going back to my manual Mach 3 razor to get that close shave but with the S9000 Prestige I feel comfortable with sticking with it because it does as good of a job with the benefit of convenience. The battery life is nothing short of amazing too. After charging it to full charge I have yet to recharge it and it has been 2 weeks. The display on the razor is motion sensitive, and will turn on when you pick it up. It clearly displays the battery percentage level in large numbers, and also has an indicator to let you know when the shaver needs to be cleaned. The shaver has a very ergonomic design and feels great on hand. The razor head itself curves effortlessly against your skin and feels great. The shaver has buttons to increase or lower the speed of the shave but for me it hasn't made much of a difference either way. This may be useful for people that are more sensitive to the shaving speed. It annoyed me at first that to clean the head there wasn't a simple button you can push that would open the head like other Norelco shavers. With the S9000 Prestige you have to manually pull the head off to clean it. Fortunately, that feeling went away quick after I realized just how easy it was. The head pulls off easily, and you runs both sides through running water. Then you click the head back on just as easily. It takes seconds and was never a chore to do. Another annoyance that may remain annoying is that the trimmer is now a separate tool instead of being attached to the razor itself. This makes it more likely for you to lose it. The trimmer itself however works great and does the job. The shaver comes with a traveling case but no stand. Even some cheaper Norelco shavers I've bought come with a stand, but this doesn't. If you set it down on the counter it can wobble. While the shaver does give you a close shave, I did feel it tug my hairs a couple of times when I shaved while it was long. The feel of the shaver on hand, the amazing battery life, and the close to skin shave is enough for me to totally recommend this shaver.

extremely close shave for an electric

The philips Norelco s9000 Prestige lives up to it hype for an extremely close shave, nearly as close as a razor. The s9000 as received comes with a charging cord, a chrome body, travel case and a trimmer accessory. There is a lot to like about this razor. For Instance I have been using the s9000 for over a week and the battery level is still at 88%, the new blade head is smooth, the body has 3 selectable blade speeds to help you find the perfect shave and it is ergonomic. There are, however, two things that I think Philips Norelco neglected on this razor that even my old Philips arcitec razor has. One is a decent charging stand. A razor at this price point should come with something nicer than a cord to stick in the end of the razor for recharging and the other is a built in trimmer. Having to keep up with a separate attachment and then having to remove the blades and replace with another unit is annoying to say the least, especially when older model razors had these features. Even with my two gripes about this razor, it is still a very nice unit, has a very long lasting charge and shaves very, very well. I don't think you will find a better electric shaver on the market. I just wish Philips would have added a charging stand (or QI charging) and an attached trimmer.

A heads up to anyone reading, this review is based upon my use only on my neck. I always have a full well kept beard so I often have to shave my neck and maintain the outline to keep it looking decent and less messy. My current mid-grade electric foil shaver is ok enough but I seemingly have thicker hair that grows whichever way it feels like so it takes more time and effort than I currently like to get the job done. I could be a less common case, though. Since my current electric shaver couldn't complete the job on my neck, I still had to take out my regular beard trimmer to do the outline and get whatever missed spots that refused to cut. Besides missing spots, the electric shaver often irritated my skin, pinched and didn't cut close enough to my jawline leaving more work for my beard trimmer. I've been wanting to upgrade again but was afraid to ever go even more expensive in case it wouldn't have made a difference for me. However what the S9000 advertised seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I had a 5 day old growth on my neck before trying this so naturally I was a bit skeptical based on what the S9000 said it could do versus my previous experience with electric shavers. Neither my current foil shaver or the electric shaver I had before that could handle it without seriously irritating my skin and constantly going over the same areas. I never shaved right before or after a shower either because either the soap or shampoo would further the irritation and create a rash or the skin would be too soft from the steam and the same would happen after. It has 3 speeds so based on the directions I went straight to speed 3 (the fastest, which I will assume is best for longer lengths) and to my excitement it worked very comfortably with barely (if any) irritation at all. I was also able to get closer cut to my beard. I'm definitely a fan of the trimmer attachment, too. It's the same small teeth I like to use with my other trimmer to do outlines yet it is even wider which lets me cover more area at a time. The next few subsequent uses was after a couple of days of growth on the lowest speed (for closest shave) to see how it did on shorter hair. It was causing a bit of irritation though I'm not surprised, but it was nowhere close to what I'm used to. They say it takes a few weeks to adjust so if this is all I'm getting now than it's still good enough for me. I'm going to keep playing with the speeds to find my personal sweet spot. I never thought it would be useful to have a variable speed feature but I'm not so sure I'd want to ever use one again without it as it's quite convenient. The whole head can be removed which you must do to put on the trimmer attachment. What I will call the "blades cap" comes off separately for cleaning with water. It does have some kind of a sensor to let you know if the motor is clogged which is nice but it's better to clean it after almost every use anyway. However this brings me to my only fear of the product - While I would not exactly call it flimsy, the blades cap has a semi-fragile feel to it and I fear the way you pull it off is a bit precarious. I would really hope over time it doesn't quickly wear out the mechanisms that allow it to snap into place as it does take a bit of force to take off such a seemingly delicate piece. I'm not sure why there couldn't have been a small button release to ensure the least amount of wear at this price. Normally I would leave the neck to do once every 5 or so days (I work from home and have that luxury) because of the time and effort it took to do it, but now I can knock it out so fast whenever and not worry about walking around with a blotchy red neck. I haven't had any luck in the past using these things wet or with shaving cream so I have yet to try it with this product. But this kinda gives me the sense it would be worth trying if I ever needed do. What's a bit contradicting is on the website they say this would work even on a 7 day beard yet the instruction booklet recommends buzzing your hair down before using if at a 3 day old or more beard. While that may be more a reserved notion to keep customers happy, I'm more inclined to believe the former. I would definitely still try using this on my neck after 7+ days. But for my face which grows way thicker I couldn't say since I nearly never completely shave it. This product is one of those things that for the price it BETTER work and fortunately it definitely does. They encourage to give it 3 weeks before thinking of returning so it's worth the try if you're on the fence about upgrading and feel like you are running out of options for yourself. I gave it 5 stars but I wanted to give it 4.5 because it remains to be seen if the blade caps are more durable than they look after repeatedly removing to clean.

The Philips S-9000 comes with a good travel case, cleaning brush, charger and trimmer attachment. I immediately liked the feel of the S9000 in my hand. Having used a Philips/Norelco rotary before I was accustomed to the feel although the ergonomics are way better with the new handle and head design. I used this for a few days regularly then grew out some serious stubble to put it to the test. Day to day use was good, although I feel there are better electric razors out there for the money. This seemed to be a little rough in places my other electric is not. I just prefer the linear blade models and still do. It did take care of some serious stubble however I just don’t think it is as close of a shave as my usual. I will say with the rotary blades you really don’t have to pay much attention to the directional growth of your hair necessarily. So you are free to just go in small circles. The trimmer is not integrated into the unit so you have to remove the razor head and put on the trimmer. Not a big fan of this, one more thing to keep track of and adds to the size of the travel case. The trimmer itself works well though. All things considered it is effective at what it does but not enough to make me change models. I would recommend trying it out.

    Awesome Electric Razor

I liked this razor right out of the box. It has a sleet, modern look with a premium feel. It feels ergonomically pleasing in the hand and has a nice heft to it. The razor has a digital LCD readout for battery level and other details. It has a very quiet motor but it certainly isn't weak. It has three levels of shaving intensity and I never felt the need to go beyond the lower two power levels. It has Nonotech precision blades which give a great shave. I used the product on day-to-day shaves, and once with three-day growth. The shaves were the same, with no tugging or pulling. The shaves around the curves in my face were very close and the trimming attachment worked well with my beard. Cleaning is quick and easy, and the shaved hairs came off very quickly. It charged in just under an hour. It comes with instructions, charger, a trimming attachment to shape sideburns and beards, and a hard shell travel case with zipper. I have had electric razors in the past and did not particularly care for them. This electric razor has changed my mind, and I would recommend this premium product for all men, even those used to straight razor shaves.

Great, Close Shave, Even in Hard To Get Spots

I switched to this Philips Norelco S9000 shaver from a lower tier rotary electric shaver, and am very impressed with it. I’m getting a much closer shave, and more importantly, the S9000 cuts the hairs in those hard to reach spots (on my neck, the angle of my jaw, etc.) on the first or second pass. Other shavers have needed many more passes, or just missed those spots altogether. This model has the ability to choose between three different shaving intensity levels, which is nice, but now that I found the right level for me (balancing comfort with closeness) I don’t think I’ll really need to adjust it again. The digital readout of battery percentage is helpful for planning purposes, letting me see before packing for a trip whether I'll need to bring the charging cable.

    Staying smooth through the week

As I wake up pretty early, I typically only shave on the weekend. That means as the week carries on, I start looking fairly scruffy. I wanted to get this to help maintain a cleaner look. The shaver looks nice and futuristic almost. It runs fairly quiet so I don’t have to worry about the noise early in the morning while my wife is still sleeping. As I’m using this consistently through the week, I can’t state how it performs against 5-day shadow. I have noticed that I do have to run over my upper lip and in the goatee spot several times. Even then I still find a few hairs that seem to escape. The battery seems to hold up pretty well. It’s great there’s a digit battery level readout. It does feel comfortable as a dry shave so I haven’t had a need to try it wet but maybe I’ll give it a go this weekend where I’d normally use my razor. The case will come in handy when I travel overseas but day-to-day I just leave it out. Overall I’m happy with the shaver.

Very Good, But Not Sufficiently Better

The Philips Norelco - S9000 Prestige Wet/Dry Electric Shaver gives a great close shave with just one pass. I'm a long-time user of Philips' electric shavers and find them excellent for giving me a great basic daily shave. Even the pop-up trimmers are good enough that I only have to use my beard trimmer occasionally. The S9000 comes in a premium case, has slightly larger cutting blades, includes an led display for battery level and other information, and has 3 speeds. It comes with a trimmer head that you swap-out with the normal shaving head when you want to use it. As nice as it is, I find myself conflicted as to whether or not I would recommend it. Is it worth the significant bump in price? - The S9000 gives me a great close shave in under 10 seconds as opposed to under 20 seconds from my lower-priced Norelco. - Taking off the shaving head and then putting on the trimmer head took much more time and effort than the simple pop-up trimmer on the lower-priced model. Also, I found the trimmer head on the S9000 to be less effective than the pop-up trimmer. So, although I do not like giving a 'not recommended' review to a quality product, I would recommend a lower-priced Norelco to my friends instead of this. In essence, Norelco's success at producing excellent, affordable electric shavers works against the pluses of the S9000.

It works well on short to medium length facial hair. It didn't take long to fully charge. The head of it conforms well to the shapes of your face. Very close shave. It's lightweight. Overall worth the money.

Excellent shaver if you don't like shaving cream!

Philips Norelco has created a sleek, stylish electric shaver that works really well for those who aren't too keen on using shaving cream during their daily/weekly/? shaving ritual. To be clear, though, you can use shaving cream if you'd like; since the device is water-resistant (it can be used in the shower), the shaver won't get ruined. For me, I tested the shaver after about two weeks' worth of growth -- effectively having a beard where the facial hair was about half an inch long (I have course hair, so I could be representative of a lot of guys out there!). While it did take some doing -- meaning unlike a straight razor, I did have to go over areas a number of times -- the shaver did its job, with very little skin irritation (I don't have the most sensitive skin, but I can definitely tell when I do something different to my face in this respect). Using a swirling motion (as recommended by Philips Norelco), I could get a baby-smooth result with this device. Further, there is an LCD panel on the front of the shaver that shows how much charge is left, as well as iconic reminders to clean out the shave heads (simply done by pulling the set of three heads straight off the top). Also, for those who travel on a regular basis, there is a way to lock the power button so that you don't waste a charge in a suitcase. The only thing to watch out for is replacing the blades approximately every year. The company specifically states on the shaver handle what you'd need to order (which is good; I hate having to search out replacement model numbers!). However, since this particular model is so new, there's no way to currently know how much they'll cost. I am a regular subscriber to a well-known shaving service. Is this shaver good enough to replace that service? If the unit I received also included a trimmer attachment to maintain my goatee and I knew how much Philips Norelco would charge for replacement blades, there's a very good possibility that I'd be a "yes" on that.

    The Best Norelco Yet

I've been using electric shavers my whole life, both rotary and foil, and the new Prestige beats them all. The first thing I noticed is how different the shaver feels against my skin, even from older Norelco models. It feels softer, the heads really swivel and follow the curve of my face. I waited for a few days of beard growth so I'd really be able to see how well it worked. It shaved my face like a lawn mower cuts the lawn, It seemed like after one pass the whiskers were gone. In a much shorter time than normal i was finished. I kept checking my magnifying mirror to see if it missed a spot or two but couldn't find one. This shaver, unlike most "top of the line" models does NOT come with one of those electric cleaning stations. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as with many of them you need to keep buying cleaning cartridges from the manufacturer. With this shaver, when you're finished you just let the water from the faucet pour over it. You then lift the shaving head holder off the shaver and rinse them under the tap. The shaver is now perfectly clean and it didn't cost you a cent. And yes its totally waterproof so if you want to shave in the shower, no problem with shaving cream or not. The only negative I can mention is that unlike any current shaver I've ever seen the trimmer is not part of the shaver itself. You have to pop off the rotary heads and then click the trimmer attachment onto the shaver. After a few days I realized that it was just easier for me to keep my old shaver handy and if I needed a trim I'd just use its trimmer. It was quicker and worked just as well. That's really not a big deal. You buy a shaver for its shave quality and this one gets a 10 out of 10.

I can't remember the last time I got a new shaver that wasn't wet/dry. That seems a must have nowadays. The last shaver I had I could never tell when it had to be recharged. This one has nice clear LED digits showing how much power you have left before needing a recharge. You'll get a nice close shave with the NanoTech precision blades. One exception, if you want to call it that, is the beard trimmer, so you can clean up the whole face more easily. If you travel, you'll love the travel lock mode where it won't turn on accidentally when left in luggage/carryon. You'll also get to use the nice case it comes with. Overall, a good all around value with better than average closeness

Just got the S9000 Prestige. I've been using Norelco Electric's since before they were cordless (i.e. a long time ago!), and the Prestige is their best razor yet. Pros: Very close shave, Cons: — No integrated Sideburn trimmer, but a trimmer is included that you need to remove the shaving head to install. Better to just get an inexpensive dedicated trimmer. — No stand / charging stand, so razor is placed on its side when not in use. (I have a Sonicare toothbrush that includes a charging glass that I never use, and it works great as a stand for the Prestige
