Premium & Excellent Shaver with Smart Features

==== Summary ==== The Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige is an excellent rotary shaver that is light, easy to operate, and offers a close shave that rivals a foil shaver. The fit-and-finish is excellent and both the shaver and its carrying case feel premium and durable. Smart features such as Travel Lock and Cleaning Reminder are thoughtful and helpful additions. It is a great product from Philips. *Pros: -Premium feel, nice fit-and-finish, & great build quality. -Easy to operate. -IPX7 water-resistant. -Quiet operation. -Nice, big LED screen. -Easy maintenance. -Helpful smart features (Travel Lock, Cleaning Reminder, Replacement Reminder). *Cons: -None ==== Design ==== I was impressed from the get-go when I started unboxing the S9000 Prestige. The box is attractive and has a nice, soft texture to it. The parts are neatly organized inside and easy to unpack everything. It kind of felt like I was unpacking a premium smartphone from Samsung. The carrying case for the S9000 is the nicest of its kind I've seen and touched so far. It is a hard case with soft textures front and back and it exudes quality and durability. The soft texture offers solid grip and reminded me of high-end eye glassware cases. Just by looking at the carrying case, you know there is something nice and expensive inside. As for the shaver itself, the S9000 Prestige is constructed very well with its attractive matte black and brushed stainless steel design. Despite the appearance of lots of metal components, the unit is surprisingly light and comfortable to use for an extended period of time. All the seams and lines are perfect and the fit-and-finish is excellent. Operating and maintaining the S9000 couldn't be any easier. To start shaving, just press the big Power Button, use the + and - buttons to set your shaving comfort level (Low, Medium, and Fast), then put the three rotary heads on your skin to start shaving while making small circular motions. Here is a nice tutorial video from Philips on how to shave with the S9000 Prestige for those not familiar with rotary shavers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GjUCQBVKf4 After shaving is finished, I cleaned the shaver by turning it on and running the head under some warm tap water as instructed. For a more thorough cleaning, you can just pull off the top part of the rotary shaver head to rinse off the hair chamber inside and/or twist off the three individual shaver rings. Once done, you just snap the top back on to the base. Super simple and easy. The smart features of the S9000 are conveyed through the big and bright LED screen & offers useful information at a glance - the battery level, the shaving comfort level, and notifications if any are available (e.g., Battery Low, Cleaning Reminder, Travel Lock, Overheating, and Replacement Reminder). I find Travel Lock to be an especially thoughtful and helpful addition as it can prevent accidental power-on and drainage of battery. The S9000 came with a single extra attachment - the Sideburn/Mustache precision trimmer. It was a simple affair to pull off the rotary shaving head and snap on the attachment. And it performed very well neatly trimming my sideburns. For design and build quality, I give the Norelco S9000 Elite (SP9820) a 10 out of 10~! ==== Performance ==== Having used a Philips Norelco rotary shaver in the past before switching to a Braun foil shaver, I was pleasantly surprised by how close the shave was. The older Norelco model I used from about 6 years ago was not able to shave as close as my Braun foil shaver and it was too time-consuming to use due to the many passes I had to make on the same spot. With the S9000, not only is the shave as close as my Braun Series 7 foil shaver - if not better according to my wifey - it doesn't require so many passes that I get impatient and frustrated. As a result, I'm quite pleased with it and I can put aside the Braun as a backup now. Other aspects of the S9000 that compares more favorably to my foil shaver is that it is much quieter in operation and it does a much, much better job at shaving the angled areas of my face (i.e., jaw area) and my neck area. This is just an inherent advantage of a rotary shaver compared to a foil shaver. It is not a complete win for the S9000, however. Although it offers a closer shave than my foil shaver, the S9000 does require more shaving passes than the foil. Approximately, I would say that my shaving time increased by about 1 minute overall. With that said, I rate shaving closeness a 10 out of 10, time consumed a 8.5 out of 10, and overall performance & satisfaction a 9.5. ==== Closing Thoughts ==== Philips has created a fantastic rotary shaver that is premium in build with great fit-and-finish that is lightweight, performant, and simple in operation and maintenance. The built-in smart features such as Travel Lock and Cleaning Reminder are great additions. I would highly recommend the S9000 Prestige for those looking for a close shave with a quiet operation and easy maintenance.

    Closest shave ever!

Over the years I have jumped back and forth between razor and electric for shaving. I like safety and convenience of electric shavers, but I also like the closeness of a razor. Oh, the dilemma. Until I got ahold of the Norelco S9000 Prestige electric shaver. Out of all the electrics I have tried in the past, this is the first one to give me the closest feel to a razor shave. With other electrics, to get a close shave, I would have to add extra pressure which would produce a bit of a razor burn. (Close, but, Home Alone type of face on fire when applying aftershave.) With the S9000 and its three floating heads, no extra pressure is needed. The feel of the three rotating heads is quite comfortable and they seem to almost wrap around the contours of my chin and face. With this being said, let’s dive into what I like and dislike: Likes - Device Feel: The unit is light in weight but not too light. The contoured shape feels good in my hand and the placement of the speed and power buttons do not get in the way when shaving. The side and back rubber provides a firm grip, even when wet, and blends well with the metal. - Digital Display: The display is a nice touch. As soon as the device feels your touch or movement, it displays the remaining battery percentage. Other information displayed includes a charging indicator, battery low, personal comfort speed setting, a cleaning reminder, travel lock indicator, head replacement reminder, blocked shaving head indicator, and the “hey dummy, unplug me before shaving” indicator. - Shaving Heads: The three rotating shaving heads are the most comfortable I’ve ever felt. The pivoting platforms for each head provides for a close shave around the contours of your face. Even my sensitive skin loves the floating feel of the heads. The design of the shaving heads are supposed to sense the beard density and automatically adjust for handling up to a weeks worth of growth. (Which has happened only once in my entire life, so I’ll not be testing this feature.) The shape and design of the shaving heads provided me with a very close shave, even in the tight under the nose curve and over the point of the chin spots, which are my danger spots with a razor. (I won’t get into the gory details.) - Battery Life: I’ve been using this shaver for three weeks and I’m only at 50% battery after a single overnight charge. I’m impressed. - Cleaning: I love that I can rinse the heads under a running faucet without worrying about getting the rest of the device wet. In fact, for a wet shave, you can use the device in the shower. Any water suspended within the heads actually flows through the middle of the device and out the bottom. - Comfort Setting: The speed of the rotation of the heads is adjustable with three different speed settings. I like using the lowest setting for those times when I’m trying to be quiet, but I personally prefer the medium setting for a close shave. Dislikes - Precision Trimmer: While the trimmer works fine and is very precise, I personally don’t like the idea of having to pull off the shaving heads and then snap in the trimmer. I always feel like it’s wrong to yank the heads off of the device and that I might break it. - The Travel Case: The case is just way too snug for the shaver, the cord, and the trimmer. I was able to do it, but I really had to work hard at it. Overall, I’m very happy and satisfied with this shaver. It is, by far, the best electric shaver I have ever owned and provides the closest thing to a razor shave. Being able to use it in the shower is a huge plus for me and it has always performed well. Worth the price? Indeed.

    Norelco's Best Looking Rotary Shaver

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Design, Shave quality, Speed
    Cons mentioned:
    Use on beards

This Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary shaver does have an improved build quality compared to Norelco’s earlier models of rotary shavers. This Norelco is built about as good as an electric rotary shaver could be made. The Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary shaver is built mostly of stainless steel. It is not immediately obvious that this shaver is built of stainless steel, as many products nowadays are made of plastic that is coated in such a way that it looks metallic. I stuck a magnet to the outside of the Norelco shaver, and the magnet does stick to it, so this is how I knew it was made of real stainless steel, and not metallic looking plastic. See the pictures that I included with my review, as the images show the magnet stuck to the stainless steel on the Norelco shaver. Most of my experience with electric shavers has been using the foil type of shaver, and before now, I have never owned a rotary shaver. Now that I have a Norelco rotary shaver, I am now able to compare the two types of electric shavers: here is my assessment: This Norelco rotary shaver is noticeably quieter than a foil type of electric shaver. This Norelco rotary shaver does shave differently than a foil shaver, but the shave is about as close. It did take awhile to get used to the rotary style of shaver after having used a foil type of shaver for many years. In my opinion, the functioning of a foil type of electric shaver is simpler and the foil design has less moving parts. The foil type of shaver is also a bit easier to shave with, and the foil type of shaver is easier to clean after a shaving session. Both types of electric shavers have advantages and disadvantages. This Norelco S9000 rotary shaver is advertised to “cut exceptionally close - even on a 7 day beard.” I did find that this Norelco rotary shaver does cut a longer beard a bit better than a foil type of shaver can. With that said, optimally, a long beard should be cut with a beard trimmer first, then the electric shaver can finish off the beard, if you were to use an electric shaver to cut a long beard on a regular basis, this would only wear out the shaver blades quicker than normal. The way that the rotary shaving blades assembly is removed from the swiveling gearbox is a bit awkward at first, but after practicing disassembling it several times, the process is fairly easy. I like to clean an electric shaver almost every time after is is used, to keep it functioning as good as possible. The process of cleaning the blades on this Norelco rotary shaver, took almost as long as the process of shaving my beard. It is best to apply a bit of soap to the blade areas, then snap the cutting blades assembly back onto the swiveling gearbox, and then power on the shaver for like 20 seconds to let the soap dissolve any oil and grease. Finally it is necessary to dip the rotating blades into a bowl of warm or hot water for 20 seconds, to rinse off the soap. If this process is not done fairly regularly, the rotary cutting blades will get to be a bit bogged down by the oil and grease residue. The precision trimmer attachment which is included, is nice to have, but it is really only good for accurate trimming of small areas such as the sideburns The precision trimmer attachment is not very capable at cutting the main beard if ever it needs it. I often do not shave for like 5 days in a row, and then my beard is too long to be easily cut with an electric shaver, at which point it is necessary for me to trim my beard down as much as possible with a beard trimmer, then shaving with an electric shaver is easier and quicker. If Norelco would have made the precision trimmer into a high quality whole beard trimming attachment, then this would have been a substantial improvement in the overall quality of this Norelco beard shaving kit. After all, what is a customer going to be more satisfied with? The barely capable precision trimmer that is good only for accurate trimming of certain parts of the beard, or a versatile high quality beard trimming attachment which could easily cut a thick beard if necessary. The power supply that is included is decent, and I describe it as only decent, because I also own a $50 Norelco beard trimmer which has an almost identical power supply. The way I look at is the following: This Norelco rotary shaver has an original selling price of $300, this is 6 times more than my Norelco beard trimmer, it would seem like this Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary shaver should have a substantially better power supply. This situation is only going to cause the customer to wonder why a $50 beard trimmer would have virtually the same power supply that a $300 rotary shaver has. With that being said, when I first received my $50 Norelco beard trimmer several years ago, I felt like it was a pretty decent power supply, and it is a pretty good power supply for a $50 beard trimmer, but the included power supply just does not match the quality of the Norelco S9000 rotary shaver itself. In my opinion a newly designed and improved rotary shaver, should have a newly designed and improved power supply to go along with it. This Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary shaver does have a few nice features that are unique. The first unique feature is that it has a proximity sensor which displays the battery percentage when the shaver senses motion, so there is no need to turn it on to see how much battery power remains. The second unique feature is that this Norelco rotary shaver has 3 motor speeds. Overall this is one of the best looking and well built electric shavers I have ever seen. I am rating this Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary shaver kit at 3.5 out of 5 stars,. I would have rated this Norelco rotary shaver at closer to 5 stars, if it had an impressive beard trimming attachment and a better power supply.

For a shave as close as a blade...

This is the best electric shaver that I have ever used. I should probably elaborate some more on that, but honestly that statement rings true for me. The design of this shaver is incredible, I have never had one that felt so good in the hand as this one and the chrome/black really is sharp looking. I have been using electric razors for all of my life and all but one of them was a Norelco one. Norelco as a company stands behind their products and they have always been helpful when I did have an issue with a razor…even past the warranty. Speaking of which, you get two years with this one and if you register online, they give you an additional 6 months. The razor’s blades will last you about a year and it has an indicator that will let you know when it’s time to replace them. The head comes off and you are also give a trimmer attachment to put on. That is probably my only gripe…I do find myself using the trimmer a lot and my previous razors all had that built into the body, but this one you have to remove the head and swap it out. A minor inconvenience, but it does allow for additional attachments such as the skin cleansing brush (not included with this model). I plan to check that feature out. The buttons are easy to use as well. There is a power button and a toggle button where you can increase the power level by 3 settings. Also, the battery percentage is easy to see and will light up when you move the razor. There is also a clean head reminder. Of course this is a wet/dry shaver and sturdy carrying case and power adapter is included as well. My previous Norelco chargers are the same so it’s nice to see that they have not changed that.

Very Good, But Not Sufficiently Better

The Philips Norelco - S9000 Prestige Wet/Dry Electric Shaver gives a great close shave with just one pass. I'm a long-time user of Philips' electric shavers and find them excellent for giving me a great basic daily shave. Even the pop-up trimmers are good enough that I only have to use my beard trimmer occasionally. The S9000 comes in a premium case, has slightly larger cutting blades, includes an led display for battery level and other information, and has 3 speeds. It comes with a trimmer head that you swap-out with the normal shaving head when you want to use it. As nice as it is, I find myself conflicted as to whether or not I would recommend it. Is it worth the significant bump in price? - The S9000 gives me a great close shave in under 10 seconds as opposed to under 20 seconds from my lower-priced Norelco. - Taking off the shaving head and then putting on the trimmer head took much more time and effort than the simple pop-up trimmer on the lower-priced model. Also, I found the trimmer head on the S9000 to be less effective than the pop-up trimmer. So, although I do not like giving a 'not recommended' review to a quality product, I would recommend a lower-priced Norelco to my friends instead of this. In essence, Norelco's success at producing excellent, affordable electric shavers works against the pluses of the S9000.

Premium Electric Shaver is a Smooth Operator

    Pros mentioned:

The Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige Wet/Dry Electric Shaver is a beautiful piece of technology and workmanship. It features 3) high speed, rotating circular blades. Because this shaver cuts by rotating blades, rather by the traditional reciprocating blades, it is whisper quiet, making a nearly silent, gentle whirring sound, not the annoying loud buzzing sound of the traditional shaver. This razor excels at trimming your head to a near wax smoothness. It actually trims the contour of your head closer and smoother than the leading reciprocal blade shaver. The Lithium- iON Rechargable battery charges in 1 hour. Easy to clean - just hold it under running tap water and gently shake it. This razor features an LCD battery condition display that accurately describes the remaining battery time. This razor balances perfectly in your hand; it is easy to hold and to use. The included carry case is protective, just the perfect size and makes travel with this shaver a perfect travel companion. CONCLUSION: I love this smooth operating razor and have added it to my daily routine. It earns my Highest Recommendation.

    Awesome Electric Razor

I liked this razor right out of the box. It has a sleet, modern look with a premium feel. It feels ergonomically pleasing in the hand and has a nice heft to it. The razor has a digital LCD readout for battery level and other details. It has a very quiet motor but it certainly isn't weak. It has three levels of shaving intensity and I never felt the need to go beyond the lower two power levels. It has Nonotech precision blades which give a great shave. I used the product on day-to-day shaves, and once with three-day growth. The shaves were the same, with no tugging or pulling. The shaves around the curves in my face were very close and the trimming attachment worked well with my beard. Cleaning is quick and easy, and the shaved hairs came off very quickly. It charged in just under an hour. It comes with instructions, charger, a trimming attachment to shape sideburns and beards, and a hard shell travel case with zipper. I have had electric razors in the past and did not particularly care for them. This electric razor has changed my mind, and I would recommend this premium product for all men, even those used to straight razor shaves.

    Works as Promised

    Pros mentioned:
    Price, Speed
    Cons mentioned:
    Pull, Use on beards

A heads up to anyone reading, this review is based upon my use only on my neck. I always have a full well kept beard so I often have to shave my neck and maintain the outline to keep it looking decent and less messy. My current mid-grade electric foil shaver is ok enough but I seemingly have thicker hair that grows whichever way it feels like so it takes more time and effort than I currently like to get the job done. I could be a less common case, though. Since my current electric shaver couldn't complete the job on my neck, I still had to take out my regular beard trimmer to do the outline and get whatever missed spots that refused to cut. Besides missing spots, the electric shaver often irritated my skin, pinched and didn't cut close enough to my jawline leaving more work for my beard trimmer. I've been wanting to upgrade again but was afraid to ever go even more expensive in case it wouldn't have made a difference for me. However what the S9000 advertised seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I had a 5 day old growth on my neck before trying this so naturally I was a bit skeptical based on what the S9000 said it could do versus my previous experience with electric shavers. Neither my current foil shaver or the electric shaver I had before that could handle it without seriously irritating my skin and constantly going over the same areas. I never shaved right before or after a shower either because either the soap or shampoo would further the irritation and create a rash or the skin would be too soft from the steam and the same would happen after. It has 3 speeds so based on the directions I went straight to speed 3 (the fastest, which I will assume is best for longer lengths) and to my excitement it worked very comfortably with barely (if any) irritation at all. I was also able to get closer cut to my beard. I'm definitely a fan of the trimmer attachment, too. It's the same small teeth I like to use with my other trimmer to do outlines yet it is even wider which lets me cover more area at a time. The next few subsequent uses was after a couple of days of growth on the lowest speed (for closest shave) to see how it did on shorter hair. It was causing a bit of irritation though I'm not surprised, but it was nowhere close to what I'm used to. They say it takes a few weeks to adjust so if this is all I'm getting now than it's still good enough for me. I'm going to keep playing with the speeds to find my personal sweet spot. I never thought it would be useful to have a variable speed feature but I'm not so sure I'd want to ever use one again without it as it's quite convenient. The whole head can be removed which you must do to put on the trimmer attachment. What I will call the "blades cap" comes off separately for cleaning with water. It does have some kind of a sensor to let you know if the motor is clogged which is nice but it's better to clean it after almost every use anyway. However this brings me to my only fear of the product - While I would not exactly call it flimsy, the blades cap has a semi-fragile feel to it and I fear the way you pull it off is a bit precarious. I would really hope over time it doesn't quickly wear out the mechanisms that allow it to snap into place as it does take a bit of force to take off such a seemingly delicate piece. I'm not sure why there couldn't have been a small button release to ensure the least amount of wear at this price. Normally I would leave the neck to do once every 5 or so days (I work from home and have that luxury) because of the time and effort it took to do it, but now I can knock it out so fast whenever and not worry about walking around with a blotchy red neck. I haven't had any luck in the past using these things wet or with shaving cream so I have yet to try it with this product. But this kinda gives me the sense it would be worth trying if I ever needed do. What's a bit contradicting is on the website they say this would work even on a 7 day beard yet the instruction booklet recommends buzzing your hair down before using if at a 3 day old or more beard. While that may be more a reserved notion to keep customers happy, I'm more inclined to believe the former. I would definitely still try using this on my neck after 7+ days. But for my face which grows way thicker I couldn't say since I nearly never completely shave it. This product is one of those things that for the price it BETTER work and fortunately it definitely does. They encourage to give it 3 weeks before thinking of returning so it's worth the try if you're on the fence about upgrading and feel like you are running out of options for yourself. I gave it 5 stars but I wanted to give it 4.5 because it remains to be seen if the blade caps are more durable than they look after repeatedly removing to clean.

Best shave I've ever got out of an electric shaver

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Battery, Design, Shave quality

The S9000 Prestige is a no-nonsense electric shaver that gave me the best close to skin shave I've ever gotten out of an electric shaver. Usually, I end up going back to my manual Mach 3 razor to get that close shave but with the S9000 Prestige I feel comfortable with sticking with it because it does as good of a job with the benefit of convenience. The battery life is nothing short of amazing too. After charging it to full charge I have yet to recharge it and it has been 2 weeks. The display on the razor is motion sensitive, and will turn on when you pick it up. It clearly displays the battery percentage level in large numbers, and also has an indicator to let you know when the shaver needs to be cleaned. The shaver has a very ergonomic design and feels great on hand. The razor head itself curves effortlessly against your skin and feels great. The shaver has buttons to increase or lower the speed of the shave but for me it hasn't made much of a difference either way. This may be useful for people that are more sensitive to the shaving speed. It annoyed me at first that to clean the head there wasn't a simple button you can push that would open the head like other Norelco shavers. With the S9000 Prestige you have to manually pull the head off to clean it. Fortunately, that feeling went away quick after I realized just how easy it was. The head pulls off easily, and you runs both sides through running water. Then you click the head back on just as easily. It takes seconds and was never a chore to do. Another annoyance that may remain annoying is that the trimmer is now a separate tool instead of being attached to the razor itself. This makes it more likely for you to lose it. The trimmer itself however works great and does the job. The shaver comes with a traveling case but no stand. Even some cheaper Norelco shavers I've bought come with a stand, but this doesn't. If you set it down on the counter it can wobble. While the shaver does give you a close shave, I did feel it tug my hairs a couple of times when I shaved while it was long. The feel of the shaver on hand, the amazing battery life, and the close to skin shave is enough for me to totally recommend this shaver.

Wish I had bought something like this years ago

    Pros mentioned:
    Battery, Price, Shave quality

I'm middle aged now, and only wished I would have bought one of these somewhere in my lifetime before now. Why? This is by far the nicest shaves I've ever had. Once I splurged for a barber's shave, and even that wasn't as close a shave as this provides. I've bought Philips Norelco razors for many years and they are really decent, no doubt, they last a long time, inexpensive, great battery life, easy to clean, etc. The thing is, there is no comparison to this. This provides a super close shave, with 3 speeds to get an even closer shave due to the high speed of the blades, or you can slow it down and not go quite as close. As recommended, try with a low or medium speed before you work your way up to HIGH because if not you may get some razor burn until your skin adjusts - no rash for me, but I could feel that I've shaved closer than ever with this. The body of this has a luxury feel to it, and it really is amazing. There is a charging window that shows you the status of the charge, a reminder to rinse after shaving, a speed indicator, etc. and is motion sensitive so just picking it up displays these things. Cleaning is a breeze. You can take the blade body off and rinse easily under the tap, you can rinse where the blades contact the rotors, and you can remove the blade covers and rinse everything out there too. As with all of their razors, this is easy to clean, and simple to do. Thankfully there is no silly bathing base to have to use or crazy stuff to do to keep it clean - it is so simple and yet such a wonderful shave. There is a beard adapter included that you can put on this, a standard charger, and an absolutely wonderful hard shell case that won't crush in your luggage. I was able to put the razor, charger, and user guide in that case without any issue. I'm so glad I've had the opportunity to give this a try, and will never buy anything less than this next time. I will certainly change blades and keep this as long as I can, and eventually will replace it with a then current version. A good shave is like a feeling of getting a shower or putting on freshly cleaned clothes - it feels good. This razor, while not the cheapest of their offerings, is worth it when you get such a decent shave.

Smooth as a Baby's Bottom Shave

    Battery, Design, Shave quality

I have used razor blades, electric foil shavers, and electric rotary shavers. Prior to the Norelco S9000 Prestige, I have been using a Norelco 5000 series. The packaging of the S9000 is excellent. It looks and feels like a premium product. That quality continues as you open the box and reveal an extremely nice looking electric rotary shaver. The shaver is lighter than my previous razor and feels great in my hand. The chrome well let everyone know you didn't skimp on on your razor. I would've preferred to have some kind of charging stand, but that's more superficial. The shaver itself comes with several features (nanotech blades, BeardAdapt sensor, and rings coated with metallic pigments to reduce friction) that seem more like marketing gimmicks. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. What I can tell you is that the shave is better than my 5000 series. The S9000 Prestige has three speed/power settings: Sensitive, Normal, and Fast. Sensitive is the slowest speed but still provides a "thorough" shave. Normal would be for everyday use and fast is supposedly when you're in a hurry. For a razor that claims to not need multiple (or at least fewer) passes, I'm not sure if these settings really have an impact. After using the S9000 a couple of and playing around with the different speeds, I couldn't tell that any speed worked better/worse than the other. It might make more of a difference you had an extremely thick beard or longer growth. In any case, the shave you get is as close as you can get to a read razor blade shave. I found that the cutting heads followed the contours of my face well so that definitely minimized the number of times I had to go over areas. One thing I really like about this razor is that it shows a detailed 3 digit battery charge percentage. Based on my use (using the normal speed), a full shave takes about 3-4%. My other Norelco razor just has a 3-bar battery indicator, but I can easily get 1.5 week of shaving off of a single shave. It looks like the S9000 will exceed that! My only other critique (aside from wishing there was a charging stand) is the way the cutting heads are removed/opened for cleaning. My 5000 series has a hinge which you can easily flip open, clean, and leave open to let dry. The S9000 lacks the hinge so it totally detaches each time you open it. I worry it may come detached or get lost because of this. I prefer the hinged version. In conclusion, I am very impressed with the S9000 Prestige. It definitely out performs earlier models so you're getting a better shave for the extra $$ that you're spending. I also like that you can shave wet (foam or gel) or dry. You can also get the shaver completely wet like while you're in the shower so it's very versatile. Whichever way you want to shave or where you choose to shave, you'll be impressed. Pros: *Close shave *No irritation *Excellent battery life *Quick charge (1 hour for full battery / 5 min for a regular shave) *Design, build quality, and appearance Cons: *Lack of hinge on the shaver heads like in previous models *Lack of charging stand

i haven't purchased a new Norelco in about ten years, so when it was time to do so i decided to get a high-end model. i can't complain about anything with this product, but i will say i'm pretty underwhelmed. i feel like the overall shaving experience is comparable to the ten-year-old worn out Norelco that i was replacing. i should have just gotten the model that was half the price of this one...

I've tried multiple Norelco razors and this is definitely the best, especially for 3-5 day stubble.

This is a very good shaver. It shaved very close. It’s expensive, but I keep shavers for 5+ years, so it’s worth the high price.

Very expensive razor but it works great, razors might be razors, but the heads they use make all the difference.

    Quiet razor that works

    Battery, Design, Shave quality

This review is based on 2 weeks of daily use on my husband's sensitive skin, using this razor as a replacement for his electric foil razor. Overall I found this razor to far surpass my expectations. Out of the box, the first thing I noticed was that the razor is light weight, and fits in hand well. This razor has 3 speeds based on desired sensitivity, and the display is large enough to easily see battery status and settings. I'm impressed with the battery life, after charging it only once, for about 1 hour, I have used it daily for 2 weeks and the battery is just now at 50% charge. As far as the performance, the shave is very close, yet comfortable. It doesn't leave my skin irritated as many foil razors do. I like the flexibility of the shaver head to get a close shave no matter what angle or area I am shaving. Overall, in comparison to a straight foil razor, the Norelco does a better job of shaving, without the costly cleaning station and without the skin irritation. Overall I'm a big fan of this razor's performance and design. Pros: Quick shave Works great for sensitive skin Doesn't cause irritation Close, even shave coverage Easy to clean, no cleaning solution needed Great battery life Very low noise Cons: The trimmer attachment feels a bit under powered for sideburns

    Shaver heads

Philips Norelco - Norelco S9000 Prestige Wet/Dry Electric Shaver - Light Brushed Chrome Some important things to know about this shaver: • A full charge takes about 60 minutes. Since mine came out of the box with a 10% charge, the initial charge took me less than the advertised 60 minutes. • A five-minute charge gets you enough power for one shave. • It’s waterproof and can be used in the shower (wet shave using either a shaving foam or gel). • They recommend cleaning the heads after each shave for best results. (Simply run them under warm water.) • The shaving heads should be changed annually. • There’s a full two-year warranty and a 45-day money-back guarantee. • It comes in a nice hard-shell protective travel case which holds the razor, the clip-on trimmer and the charger. • The electronic display provides lots of information, including remaining battery percentage. It alerts you when the battery is low by a flashing orange light and a beeping sound. There’s also a reminder to clean the shaver and it alerts you when it’s time to replace the heads. It also reminds you to unplug the razor before using. • There’s a safety feature that prevents the shaver from working if the shaving heads are blocked and need cleaning or if the heads are damaged and need replacing. • There are three personal comfort levels from high to low for the user’s personal preference. Having used lower-priced triple head shavers for years, I was anxious to see how this more expensive shaver compared. While the documentation says it may take up to three weeks for your face to get used to the shaver, my previous use of this type of shaver meant I was able to get a great shave right out of the box. It’s a great feeling when you get a really good close shave, and this shaver produced a wife-approved shave that I hadn’t experienced for quite some time. I look forward to many more “close shaves” of the good kind.
