Bought this to replace an 18 month old LG. Not as many features as LG but this one works. Paid 140. for this one. Paid 320. for LG. Repairs on LG were 69. to trouble shoot, 19. shipping and 147. for part.

Upon arrival, I successfully setup the machine and formatted a DVD. I successfully recorded a one minute program test sample. It played back. Then all heck broke loose. Programming and off/on control worked but nothing else did. I couldn't even romove the DVD form the unit until I turned the recorder off for an hour. (I also unplugged the unit). Upon turning the unit back on, I was able to remove my DVD. I phoned Phillips and they were willing to make good but I needed a working unit that evening, so I returned the unit to my neighborhhood Best Buy and purchased new unit. Refund was instant.

I have bought refurbished before, but was in shock when this item arrived. The VCR was dented, the DVD did not work, the VHS tape would not eject...a total mess. Iike looked like someone had taken this out of a dumpster, stuck it in a box and shipped it off.

This is a great unit, Philips is a quality badge. One button records your VHS tapes to DVD, and you can set the speeds from super long play to HQ (my recommendation) for storage and upgrade purposes. One snafu, the refurbished unit only came with French guides, manuals, I had to contact Philips customer service and provide proof of purchase to get English version (no charge). They don't make these anymore, get 'em while you can.
