Basic Epilator, but does the job

This seems to be a pretty basic device, but it does what it is supposed to do. This is my first time using an epilator. The instructions were easy to follow. The long cord was very helpful, although I think it would be nice if it was a chargeable unit. It is light weight and easy to grip and very portable. The head size is a couple inches wide and seems to cover an adequate area. It is also easy to disassemble for cleaning after each use. It removed most hairs the first time, but I had to go over the area a couple of times to get them all.
As mentioned, this was my first time using an epilator. It was more painful than I expected. Using this on large areas or sensitive areas of the body will be too painful for my tolerance. While waxing is also painful, that removes a larger area at a time and is quick, whereas the epilator is more of a continuous pain while using it. I don't have a very high pain tolerance, however, so for those with a better pain tolerance or experience using an epilator, it may not bother you as much. I have been told you get used to the pain and it lessens with continual use of an epilator.
I did not lower the rating due to the pain factor, as that may just be my tolerance level and lack of experience. For those who have used an epilator before, I think this one will certainly meet your needs.

Compact size, though since it is not cordless, you still have to carry the AC adapter. Easy to clean tweezer head but make sure you remove it from the machine and unplug it from power since it is not meant for wet use. It is pretty painful to use at first though if you use it frequently enough, depending on how fast your hair grows, you get used to it. If wet use was allowed, it may be less painful but not as effective getting more hairs. If you can't tolerate some pain, stick to shaving. Found the power/speed setting button too smooth/slippery and kind of hard to push with your thumb. It could use better grip, maybe some grooves in a future model.

Gee, your leg looks hairless!

Let's face it - shaving is a chore that most of us would rather not have to do. Any way we can find a way to save time / effort on shaving would likely be worth it, right?
Well, maybe...
The Philips Satinelle Epilator delivers on it's promise of being a small, compact epilation device that works well. The device is sturdy, and the included shield for sensitive areas is definitely a plus. (The shield essentially raises the epilation head from the skin about 1/8th of an inch to protect "sensitive" areas.). The included cord is long enough, but I have to imagine that most people are going to use this in a bathroom where outlets tend to be few and far between, so a longer power cord would be a nice addition in the next version of this product. However, the compact size lends well to travel.
For comparison sake, I tried this on one leg and then conventionally shaved the other. A few days later, the leg that I used the Satinelle Epilator on is still smooth, and the conventionally shaved leg already has stubble growing back in. This is definitely a pro for this device and the epilation process as a whole.
One con that is not necessarily unique to this device, but the epilation process in general is it is not a pain-free endeavor. To boil it down, by epilating, you're essentially ripping hair out from the follicles. The one leg that I shaved essentially put me at my pain tolerance for the session and I was honestly relieved it was done. If you have a low pain tolerance, epilation may not be a fit for you. Googling will show quite a few ways to reduce the pain felt when epilating, including everything from Advil to margaritas!
Overall, the product works very well at what it does and the results are awesome - your shaving areas will never be smoother and you can definitely stretch out the length of time you need to maintain those areas - if you can tolerate the process itself.

No more tweezing a large area by hand

If you are the type of person who has been using tweezers to pull out hairs on your body one by one, then this Philips epilator is for you. If you prepped the area you would like to get rid of hair to basically stubble length, this epilator will pull it out at the fraction of time that it would take you to tweeze. Now, if you have never tweezed or gone waxing before, the epilator process will be a rude awaking of pain. However, the money you save from waxing will make up for this epilator. It would have been more convenient to have a battery powered epilator but since you want the speed and power to make pulling hairs out fast, the super long power cord is great. The corded operation ensures that the pulling of hair is fast. Last thing you want is a weak epilator pulling your hair over and over because there is not enough power. The Philips epilator allows other accessories to be used on the main body, but you have to purchase those separately. The unit itself is fairly loud, about the loudness of a hand drill. This will definitely be noticeable for people in the room to hear. Overall, if you were used to tweezing and waxing, this is an alternative that will speed up the hair removal because it pulls out the roots and will save your hands the pain of trying to pull hairs one by one.

Basic epilator, but consider the pain

This is a very basic-type epilator and does what it claims - pulls out hair. The size is good for travel, but on the other hand it’s a corded system so it limits usage a bit. There are two speed settings so you can adjust it to a bit more comfortable limit. The device itself feels sturdy and fits in the hand quite easily due to its compact size. There is a cap that makes the tweezing area smaller for use in sensitive areas. The head is washable so cleaning is a bit more convenient.
Now comes the hard part. Being a first time user the pain was intense. The epilator did it’s job perfectly, and the skin was smooth to the touch in one pass. But the process to be called “gentle” maybe a hyperbole. I think with repeated use the pain will be more tolerable, but I don’t imagine it’ll be “painless” in any manner even in the future.
So, if you are looking for a decent, small epilator and prefer a corded solution, this is a good product to consider. However, be sure to research whether you can handle the pain - especially if you have pain sensitivity issue.

I got the Philips Satinelle Essential Corded Epilator for my wife as she wanted to try it out to see how she liked it compared to shaving. Here are her thoughts (because, sorry, I refuse to try it out myself):
After using it a few times, I feel that it still just takes quite a bit longer than a razor and shaving cream, but this one is considered their "compact" version, with a smaller area. I do have to keep going over and over some areas, and even then, my legs still don't feel totally smooth as a razor after using it, but part of it could be my dry skin and also that my leg hair seems to be fairly thicker. A tip, make sure hair isn't too long or it's very painful, especially the first time you use it (found that out the hard way - OUCH!). There are two speeds, but I didn't notice any difference in comfort between them, so I mainly used it on the higher speed.
The size and shape are good - it is easy to hold and use. One thing, it is little louder than I would prefer. Also, the cord is a decent length but still not long enough (we have a wide bathroom, so no electrical outlets close enough to the tub) so I have to use an extension cord. An even longer cord would be better.
I will say It definitely is growing back slower than using a regular razor (which is the idea behind it). I think over time my legs will probably feel smoother, but right now, I think I still like a regular razor better. I won't give up on it just yet.
I did also try using on my chin hairs, using the sensitive area cap at first, but ended up removing it. My chin is smooth, but it did miss a few hairs (even after going over the areas many times).

Thank you for writing us a feedback about your Satinelle Epilator. How unfortunate to hear that you were not a fan of the product. In most cases, it does take some time to get used to the sensation. However, we are glad that it did not turn out to be a waste, as your granddaughter has loved using it.

I have been using an epilator for my forearms for probably 15 years. This one does the job, but the width of the epilating head is small, therefore you will need more passes with it to get the job done. Also it is a bit slower than what I'm used to, that could be more painful to someone new to using one of these.
This is a very basic model that comes with: The epilator, cord (needs to be plugged in during use, not lithium battery operated), and a sensitive area cap.
If you are new to epilating, this would be fine, also it's an affordable price point. You will get used to the feeling of your hairs being yanked out by the epilator and over time will not feel anything. My arm hair used to be fairly problematic for me, as a brunette all I saw was my arm hair when I looked at my forearm. Now I barely have anything. It's like tweezing your eyebrows. If you keep doing it eventually the hairs get smaller and smaller. If your hair is longer than 1/4", I would recommend trimming the hair first then epilating.

This is my first time using an epilator and honestly, it’s not that bad!
I read that it is way less painful if you shave before, wait about 4-5 days, and use the epilator when the hair is shorter so that’s what I did.
You can definitely feel that you’re pulling the hairs out but it’s not that bad. Some areas bring more pain than others but I actually thought it was going to be a lot worse!
Super easy to assemble. The directions are very clear.
It is super compact and lightweight. I like that the head can be detached and cleaned under running water.
Cons: It is not cordless. It needs to be plugged in order to function. It is a little too loud.
I totally recommend if you are not too sensitive to pain.

This epilator is not as great as it could’ve been.
The pros:
The unit itself is lightweight, the razor head is easy to remove and clean, the switch is easy to operate with one hand.
The cons:
There aren’t enough tweezers in the head and a lot of width is wasted with the edges of the razor guard. The unit seems a little bit underpowered (I know this is an epilator and not a sports car... but I had higher expectations from the Philips brand). This epilator doesn’t have the power/precision to get fine/short hairs, so you’ll need to wait until hair is longer than you normally would’ve let it go before epilating with this. Alternatively you can just epilate more often and settle for an ‘ok’ job.
I think that if Philips takes our feedback back to the drawing board, the next iteration of this epilator will be great.

The Philips Satinelle Essential Corded Epilator works as advertised. If you are not familiar with how an epilator operates, I would highly recommend reading the user manual carefully and watching some videos on how other people use them. When used properly, it is a quick way to remove hair from unwanted spots. The biggest question is always about the pain level. It is comparable to using wax to remove hair; there is definitely an amount of pain. The good news is that I found the irritation to the skin went away faster with the epilator, and the hair stayed away for longer. I used it on my legs, but it does come with an optional guard for use in sensitive areas. If constant shaving or waxing isn't working, give the Philips Satinelle Essential Corded Epilator a try. I had excellent results.

Epilator works great on different body areas. I used it on legs and underarms and in both areas all hair had been removed. Having a cover for sensitive areas is a plus. Small size makes it perfect to take on trips. The cord is long enough to reach different areas without it getting in the way.

The epilator is a cute design and does its job well. There are two speed settings: the lower being better for someone who is a bit intimidated by it. Being my first time ever using an epilator, I was a little hesitant at first but am now in love with how fast and convenient it is!

I really like this hair removal device. My legs can be very sensitive when I shave. I sometimes have red scratch marks from scratching in the middle of the night. I have to get certain razors and shave cream. This has helped out a lot. My legs are not itchy and I dont have to use it often. The only thing I don’t like is how much it hurts the first time you use it. It got better with each use, but I was not expecting that kind of pain. I def recommend you keep at it because it does get better.

This product does remove hair as it's supposed to do. Why anyone would do this over waxing is beyond me but the product does work. It is pulling your hair out so it is painful. I do not like the design as it was very slippery in my hand. It is also loud. If you are looking for a more cost effective epilator or just want to try one out, this could be a decent option for you. I just found this item too painful to use but everyone's pain tolerance is different.

Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. It is a pity that you found it too painful to use. When using an epilator, especially for the first time, some pain is to be expected. This, however, should become significantly less uncomfortable as the skin becomes used to the process. In order to reduce the painful sensation, we recommend trimming the hair or shaving a couple of days prior to the epilation, as shorter hairs are way easier to pluck out.

This is my first and last epilator. It huuuuuuurts! I tried it on my underarms with the included sensitivity cap, with very short hairs. It's very uncomfortable. However, on the legs, the pain is bearable and I could tolerate it enough to do the whole thing. Makes the skin nice and smooth. The underarm was tolerable for maybe 1.5 seconds, and that's with it barely close to skin. I would recommend it for legs. I dare not try on the bikini line. If it matters, I do not normally get the bikini area or underarms waxed.
