The Philips indoor grill is a decent option for simple indoor grilling. I was generally pleased by the results of the food I grilled during my testing. [ Pros ] - The infrared lamps leave meat more tender than fire grills do. - The infrared lamps provide more consistent heating for a smooth grilling experience, lacking the hot/cold zones and flare-ups of fire grills. - Angled placement of the infrared lamps reduces smoke generated from grilling. - Cleanup is simple, aided by light-weight non-stick grill grid and removable drip tray. - Good size for grilling on a counter-top. [ Cons ] - The infrared lamps produce blinding red light that, thanks to their angled placement, get direct access to your eyes when you stand near the grill. This made it difficult to monitor the food I was grilling during my testing. - Lack of temperature control reduces grilling flexibility. I wasn’t able to control searing/charring as much I would have liked. - The reflector surfaces seem very prone to permanent damage. No amount of dish liquid or scrubbing was able to remove the grease burn spots generated by each grilling session. Presumably, the build-up of these spots will reduce the effectiveness of the lamps over time. - The handles on the grill grid do not provide sufficient insulation for bare-handed handling while the grid is still hot.

Out of the box, the Philips Avance Smokeless Indoor Grill impresses you with quality build and simplicity. there are only 3 parts. The main unit, the cooking grid and the slide out drip tray. You can take it out of the box and be ready to grill almost immediately. It is easily large enough to cook for a family of 4 but not so large that you wouldn't want in in your kitchen. The power switch has 2 settings, full power and keep warm. Full power heats to 446 degrees and maintains that exact temperature throughout the cooking process and provides even heat all over the cooking surface. There is an instruction booklet which also provides suggested cooking times and is very easy to follow. There is also a suggested warm up time of 6 minutes prior to placing your food on the grill. So far, I have cooked salmon and steak. Both cooked perfectly with a crunchy sear on the outside and juicy perfection on the inside. To clean you must wait at least 30 minutes for everything to cool down. I found the cooking grid and the slide out drip tray to be extraordinarily easy and fast to clean. However, the interior walls are very difficult to clean. The instruction booklet will tell you to just wipe with a damp cloth. That didn't work. I then tried Dishwashing detergent with hot water, nope. I finally had to use a ceramic cleaner with a lot of elbow grease to get it clean. And, this why I deducted 1 star. Pros: Easy to set up and use. Grills food perfectly Cons: Very difficult and time consuming to clean interior walls

    Grilling in the AC!

I haven't ever considered an item such as this as I always just cooked outside on the grill. This item, however, has changed that for me and gotten me out of the heat and into the AC! The box was good and sturdy with no damage. There was virtually no assembly, and we had it up and running in no time. A once over of the Owner's Manual made sure we were doing everything correctly. We plugged it in and let it run to make sure any manufacturing oils/other unseen things were burnt off. Wow, this thing is bright and hot! We also found our first shortcoming as this thing pulls lots of juice. We tripped the circuit breaker twice as we were trying to make fries in a fryer on the same circuit. After stopping the fryer we had no additional problems. It truly is smoke free as we made several burgers with little to no smoke. All the drippings fall to a small pan at the bottom (which is easy to pull out and clean) away from the heating lights. The burgers cooked quickly with little mess. Afterwards, the grill top is easily removed for cleaning (and the grill is non-stick) and everything else just needed a quick wipe down. We haven't tried steaks yet, as we wanted to test with what we thought would be messiest. All in all, this is a great addition to our kitchen and will be used often. If you like a grill but hate the heat or clean up, you should seriously consider this item. It is well worth it's price! Good shopping!

    Easy Grilling, Great-tasting Food

My girlfriend absolutely loves grilled food (who doesn't?), but where we currently reside, we do not have the option of grilling outside. The Phillips Avance Collection indoor electric grill is the next best option, and it does not disappoint. The grill starts up quick and does not at all take long to reach 450°F. We've made a few different foods, including burgers and hot dogs. We've even used it to make breakfast! In every case, it's cooked evenly and left the food tasting great and very close to how it would taste on a gas grill. For someone who doesn't have access to a gas grill, it totally beats using a stove or oven. And very little to no smoke while cooking is a huge plus. Once we're done, I clean up immediately. It takes so little time to clean the little mess there already is thanks to the detachable non-stick grid and drip pan. The only substantial con is its lack of temperature control. You have OFF, WARM, and ON. A medium cook setting would make the grill even better. I can definitely see myself using this electric grill often, especially during colder months. I'd definitely recommend it for those that enjoy grilled foods but don't have the option to use a fire or gas grill.

I have mixed feelings about this, thought it'd be cool to be able to grill indoors in winter or if it rains but the list of "do nots" had me almost paranoid to use it. First the infrared light tells you not to look at it, well you have to to cook your food, so I wore sunglasses, it is very bright! Next don't put under a cabinet, well my counter space is small & I had it away from cabinets but they were very warm, so I was waiting for them to ignite. Don't put near a stove still or working. I made chicken & vegetables from their recipe book, the chicken was dry & I only cooked it as per directions. I cut the vegetables large like they said & half of them fell through the grates into the bottom. They took a long time to cook. Cleaning was easy, the tray slides out so you can clean it. The inside changed color after first use. It only smoked a little too, nothing like the George Forman grill smoked, plus it's a lot larger. Might give it another try but think I'll take it outside , which defeats the whole purpose.

I've had the Philips Avance grill for a few days now and really like it so far. Assemble the parts (a snap), wash the grill, and it is ready to use. Because there are is no flame or hot coals to be concerned about, safety issues are minimized. To cook, use warming setting for a couple of minutes, switch it to "on," then load it up with whatever you plan to grill. I put 4 pork loin "steaks" on, and there was room to spare on the grill surface. Following the suggested cook time shown in the accompanying instructions, the result was very tasty. The infrared cooking process works well. Smoke was minimal, and any drip was caught in the pan (easily removable for cleaning) underneath the grill. Yes, the food may not have the same grilled flavor as from an outdoor grill, but it is the very best of any other electric grills I have tried. Clean up is easy, though not quite as easy as the promo materials imply. I expect to get a lot of use out of this very nice grill, and the only problem that I have so far is figuring out where I will store it when it's not in use. I'd definitely recommend the Philips Avance grill.

The Philips - Avance Collection Indoor Electric Grill is a convenient way to grille indoors all year round. It's pretty basic, lightly constructed and quick heat up. We tried a bunch of different food stuffs on this grille, from fish to burgers to a vegetable medley wrapped in foil and everything came out decently cooked. The design does in fact do what it says dramatically reducing grease splatter in the cooking area although there is no down-draft fan to aid in this performance. Cooking area provides an nice, even environment and cleans up easily. All this said, the unit feels cheaply constructed and is very light. Even the control knob as a low-budget feel/action to it. The lightweight construction may be a huge advantage to some who struggle with heavier kitchen appliances - but to us - it feels like a cheap Walmart toaster - and as such - should be much lower in price. For thirty dollars, this would be a easy recommendation but there's really nothing fancy about his grille. We expected much more from this widget.

Overall the grill is very nice. Nice sturdy construction, nice metal cooking grates with stay cool handles. You can have the grill out of the box and cooking food in about 5 mins (after wiping down the cooking surfaces of course.) Heats up very fast, but does have a limited temperature limit as expected. It took about 5 mins for the grill to heat to a temp capable of cooking hot dogs, and maybe 10 mins for burgers (to get the metal grill hot enough.) Cooking time seemed a bit longer than expected, but once done the food was just fine. All of the grease drips away into the bottom pan which then simply slides right out for super fast cleaning. It also has a Stay Warm setting, so if you're done cooking but need to let the food sit for a bit, you can keep a steady warm heat underneath. And as advertised, little to no smoke at all, which makes it perfect for indoors. So it makes this grill perfect for winter months, or maybe apartment or condo owners. Even would be great as a tailgate grill if your car has an outlet or can power an extension cord. Simply plug this thing in and you're good to go.

    Great Counter Top Grill

If you are looking for something to replace the old school countertop clamshell grill look no further than the Phillips Avance Collection Indoor Grill. It's large enough to cook 4 decent size steaks or 6 to 8 hamburgers. The grill surface is removable as is the drip tray and both are dishwasher friendly. We fired it up and threw on a few steaks and it did a great job of cooking them to perfection, complete with the obligatory grill marks. Next up we'll try chicken and vegetables but are expecting great results as well. The pros: + this is a big grill + heats up quick + virtually smokeless + over 1600W of infrared heat + easy to clean drip pan and grill The cons: - this is a big grill (counter space is a premium at my house) - the infrared heating elements are extremely bright red making it difficult to look at the grill while on - I would have liked to see several heat settings. It's either off, on, or on warm. Maybe warm, medium, high. - price is a bit on the high side but cheaper than a large outdoor gas grill. All in all a great grill!

This thing is fantastic. My rating is a 4.5 rounded up. The only real reason for the half point drop is the severe brightness of the device. I was not expecting it when I turned it on, and it felt like someone turning on every light in a pitch dark room. The brightness doesn't go away, but it's quick to get used to. I did also have a bit of smoke (enough to set off a smoke detector), but according to the included instructions, it does warn against extended use and frequent switching of food types. It also mentions that some foods are more likely to produce small amounts of smoke while others are virtually smokeless. I will say, I had been grilling for a good amount of time, and did switch to a smokier meat, when it finally did start smoking. At that point, I just turned on my exhaust fan over the stove and never had another issue with it. But the quality of the grill is fantastic. As was the food cooked on it. It help keeps the juices in the meat where they belong, and provides a nice, even, thorough cook. This product is definitely worth it.

First thing I thought it would be bigger than it is. It’s perfect for a dinner for 4. I love that it’s indoor just in case it’s raining and you can’t go outside and use your grill or maybe you live in an apartment and can’t have an outdoor grill. It’s easy clean up, I did have minimal smoke I was making chicken breasts. It cooked throughly and was a decent grilled taste, definitely not like putting it on a outdoor grill but it will do for those times you don’t want to use your outdoor grill. I really liked grilling vegetables on it. I say if your planning a big grilling meal still use a outdoor grill because this can only hold so much. Definitely recommend to someone who doesn’t have an area for a outdoor grill, this will do the job. I think for me for the foods I definitely want that authentic grill taste I will continue to use an outdoor grill and for quick grilled meals and veggies I will use this indoor grill. It’s a great buy.

I was happily surprised after using this grill that it worked exactly as advertised. When I first opened the box and set up the grill which by the way was incredibly easy it really is just two pieces you put into place, I thought that there was no way this was going to produce less smoke. But after using it this past weekend and cooking several types of meats on it. I was shocked to how well the grill cooked the meat just using light and how little smoke was ever produced. It is very easy to clean and very portable at the same time large enough to make a good amount of food. My only gripe is that because the lights it uses are so powerful it can be hard to tell how cooked the food is and you either have to use a bright light, a thermometer, or just take the food off the grill to check it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a grill and lives in a apartment or just doesn't want to cook outside.

The Philips - Avance Collection Indoor Electric Grill is a decent product that does what it is intended for. The "electric grill" is not a new concept, although Philips using a new infrared convection technology. For those living in colder climates who enjoy grilling or live in apartments, the grill will give you that outdoor charcoal grilled feeling without the smoke. I find that preheating up to 10 minutes on full power is important. This being said, the grill has a tendency to cook unevenly. It is also sometimes hard to tell if the food is completely cooked. I am not sure how long the non-stick surface will last. I find many "non-stick" surfaces deteriorate after a few uses. Cleanup is NOT easy, the grill tends to collect grease/fat on the sides. This requires some real scrubbing in hard to reach places.

So the biggest thing that I like about this grill is that it is just a great companion to any kitchen setup. If I have any complaint about it then it's that it seems like it is more positioned towards making nicer meals than for someone who makes more quick meals. That being said it's really nice that they do include a great set of recipes with the grill so if you're looking for ideas it definitely brings them. The grill itself is really well built and holds up great. It definitely looks and feels premium. I can't say it made me an amazing chef; I'm college student age and not, but it definitely has the potential to cook some amazing healthy meals with both vegetables and various meat. Also I recommend pineapple if you're using any chicken. Overall if you're wanting to do some smaller scale grilling inside that's what I really like this grill for.

I am very impressed with the Phillips Avance Collection Indoor Grill and readily recommend it to anyone looking for a great answer to getting the true outdoor grilling experience indoors with minimal smoke. This unit represents a significant improvement over pther electric stand-alone and stove-top grill pans I've tried in the past. It separates grease from the food on the grill into a grease tray like other clamshell grills on the market, but with the experience similar to cooking on an open grill. It is very easy to clean - even more so with a quick spritz of cooking spray on the grill and drip tray before starting your cooking session - and easy to use. This is a perfect solution to grilling indoors that I am confident will become a key appliance in any kitchen. It is no wonder that it is already winning recognition for its design excellence!

I was dubious at first with the claims of being smokeless and for use indoors, but they're not kidding! It took a little getting used to the fact that I couldn't adjust the temperature - once I Started to treat it like a medium-high gas grill all the time, my results improved. That means you have to be careful what kind of liquids/butter/oils end up on the grilling surfaces (that might negate the smokeless part) but the end result is so similar to a bbq grilled meal it's stunning. I wish the grill size was just a little larger, but the size is perfectly suited to storage and being an indoor appliance. Between the removable surface and the lower drip tray, Philips makes this thing easy to clean. I foresee using this to have grilled food well into the winter months when I cannot/will not use my outdoor gas grill.

When ever my wife would try to fry any kind of meat on our kitchen stovetop, the smoke alarms would always go off. We always had to open the window next to the stove. And even with this, the alarms would still be activated. I guess better safe than sorry. So forget any attempt to trying to pan fry a steak. When I first heard about this grill, I thought that it sounds a little too good to be true. Well, let me tell you that I have grilled many steaks, pork chops and chicken halfs without any alarms going off. You just can't apply a lot of liquid seasoning or sauce to the meat. I have been using dry rubs and salt/pepper for flavoring. I will tell you that I would defy anyone knowing that the meat wasn't prepared on an outdoor grill. PLEASE BELIEVE ME ON THIS!

This indoor grill works wonderfully, tested it out on some tasty Wisconsin beer brats and some chicken brats! The only thing missing is one of the best features being an indoor grill, NO SMOKE...which does mean no smokey, charcoal flavor. This is most definitely a plus as there is no excessive smoke while grilling inside, a common issue on many other indoor grills & cooking devices. There is a little bit of grease splatter but it is so easy to clean, you won't care after the first time using it! Highly recommended, very user friendly, the infrared light are a lot to take in but instantly ready!

I am from Texas, and I take my drilling seriously. I cooked ribeyes for one meal and chicken breast for the other meal (didn't want to try vegetables to I get more accustomed to this). The steaks cooked pretty fast, the chicken took about 20 minutes same as my grill It warms up pretty fast, a couple of minutes. The cooking area has a very well distributed heating area. Clean up was also very east (LET IT COOL DOWN FIRST) only a couple of cons there is really only and on and warm, different proteins need different temps (such and meat and fish). I don't think I can do vegetables for a while. This did raise the temp of my kitchen up, so maybe more a winter grill. I did get some smoke, more from the chicken than the steak. this may be the fat. I will try skin off next time.

This is ideal for the wife who does not spend a lot of time outside! Lol... my wife loves it because she is able to grill foods in doors away from bugs and heat. It is fast to heat up to proper heat for grilling all types of food. Leaves perfect grill marks for an authentic grilled dish and leaves little to no mess to clean up afterwards. The grill itself has a non stick surface so food does not stick and makes it an easy to clean item in the sink or dishwasher. The drip pan slides out easy and is also easy to clean. While cooking there is little to no smoke and foods are cooked to perfection with an authentic juicy grill taste. We love it for those days when grilling outside is not an option. Great buy
