It’s a nice toothbrush. Powerful vibration, easy charging, well-shaped brush heads; but simply not worth it for the price point. Get it on sale.

The Philips Sonic 9900 toothbrush is a super nice smart-toothbrush that feels premium to the touch. It has a support/tutorial app for your phone, as well as a travel case that can also charge the 9900 when on the road. Plus, it provides real-time tracking as it is cleaning your teeth. It also gives you feedback if you’re going too fast or too slow or pressing too hard. It also has something called BrushSync technology that lets you know when it is time to replace the brush head (brush heads are only good for so many cleaning efforts). So, how does it clean my teeth: it cleans my teeth really well. When unpacked, the Sonic 9900 included the following items: • Qty 1 – Sonicare 9900 Prestige power toothbrush • Qty 1 – A3 Premium All-in-One brush head • Qty 1 –Travel Case • Qty 1 – USB-A to USB-C Cable • Qty 1 – Power Adapter • Qty 1 – Charging base with 2 parts (USB Powered base plate & Frosted Plastic Frame known as a puck) • Documentation The Puck, which helps keep the toothbrush firmly positioned when sitting on the charging base plate, was missing from mine. I noticed this after repeatedly seeing an app notification that the toothbrush was not charging. The toothbrush wasn’t sitting exactly in the center of the charging base plate, so I slid it over toward the middle and it immediately began charging as evidenced by the flashing battery LED. It was then that I realized that the puck was missing. Lacking the puck, which confines the toothbrush to the exact middle of the charging plate, wasn’t an obvious problem when I first used this system. Anyways, I hope to get a replacement puck soon. Ignoring this charging issue, I think this toothbrush is quite impressive. As you brush your teeth, the 9900 gives you hepatic feedback when it is time to move the brush around your mouth. For example, you might start brushing your top right molars, then move to your top front teeth, and so on. They recommend spending about 2 minutes brushing, which in the past is longer than I normally would. If you travel often, you can store the 9900 in the included travel case, and charge the toothbrush directly in the case using the included USB-A to USB-C cable and the power adapter that came with the unit. For clarity, the travel case is not like an earbud case. It does not contain batteries that recharge the toothbrush each time the toothbrush is inserted. When you plug the USB charging cable into the case, and the power adapter is connected to the USB cable, the toothbrush is charged in real-time. Do keep in mind that the 9900 has a 14+ day charge, so it is possible you may never need to charge the 9900 using the travel case. Some of the main features of the 9900 are: • A Brush Head replacement reminder system • The ability to real-time track the brush head position • A 14-plus day battery • Five cleaning modes • A built-in timer and pacer • A visible light if you press too hard • A scrubbing sensor light indicating that you should not be scrubbing • An automatic power-off • 5 cleaning modes Battery status can be determined like this: • Full charge – Battery status led is Illuminate in white • Partially Full – Battery led blinks white • Low Charge – Battery led blinks amber (handle emits 3 beeps after brushing) • Empty – Battery led blinks amber (handle emits 2 beeps after brushing) The 9900 comes with 3 intensity settings (beneath the power button): • High Intensity (3 lights) • Medium Intensity (2 lights) • Low Intensity (1 light) To change the intensity, press the intensity indicator lights to toggle through the three levels. The 5 brushing mode options are: • *Clean – 2 minutes • White+ - 2 minutes and 40 seconds • Gum Health – 3 minutes and 20 seconds • Deep clean – 3 minutes • Sensitive – 2 minutes *Clean is the default mode In truth, this toothbrush runs circles around my older electric toothbrush. Not only is it more powerful, but there is an obvious feeling that my teeth are much cleaner when done. Will I ever brush my teeth more than the minimum 2 minutes to achieve the Gum Health and Deep Clean status, I’m just not sure. Since the brush heads are technically good for up to around 180 uses, this might be a good time to plan for a subscription replacement plan. After using this unit for only a short time, I understand why a toothbrush like this is the right step toward quality oral hygiene. With that said, I’m giving the Philip Sonicare 9900 a 5-star review.

This worked well while it worked. It stopped working a few months after I received it. I reached out to Philips Sonicare several times. They said they would send a replacement, but never did. I have had less expensive Sonicares in the past that have lasted for years. I was very disappointed that this one didn't last and a replacement was never sent. For this price point, I expected longevity and that a replacement would have been sent. Now I have to purchase another toothbrush!

Stoped working after one year and Philips's warranty is completely worthless. Don't waste your hard earned money on this one.

I bought the item in 2022 and it functioned well for a day or two before the start/stop button ceased working. I attempted numerous fixes including replacing parts, recharging, and trying again repeatedly, but to no avail. When I sought assistance from BestBuy, where I made the purchase, they referred me to the manufacturer. However, I've encountered difficulties with registering the product on the manufacturer's website. I was under the impression that BestBuy would be able to assist me with this issue, but regrettably, they have not been able to offer the necessary support.

For the record, I am a long time electric toothbrush user. I had moved from Sonicare to an Oral-B about a year or two back, but was ready to go try something new and this new model was the one to close the deal. I'll say that nothing is perfect, but first impressions of this unit is that it is getting pretty close. Like many newer models, it does have an available app which can provide some additional instruction and feedback. I've been brushing my teeth for a few decades now, so wasn't feeling there was much of a need there. Still, the app gives some pretty good feedback as far as your coverage and time spent on each area of your mouth- better than what I has experienced before. It will also track the time spent brushing and will suggest when a new brush head is recommended (and, of course, they can be easily ordered through the app). There are many options for customization through the app, as far as intensity, time intervals (when it vibrates to tell you you've spent enough time in one area), and even the ability to turn off notifications when you are brushing too hard, or with improper technique. Having said that, I believe most, if not all, of these features can be accessed without the app, as well, if you follow the manual's instructions. So, while I'm not really feeling I need a smartphone to tell me how to brush, this app is actually simple and helpful enough to make it worth checking in from time to time. But really this is about the brushing experience. If you've used both sonicare and Oral-B type brushes in the past, you'll know they use very different approaches and engineering to give you the best results. This particular brush is many times quieter than the Oral-B it replaced, and I find the Sonicare much easier to use without excessive pressure; with the Oral-B, it seemed like I was getting constant nagging alerts that I was using too much pressure (even when consciously trying not to). I would say that the results are at least as good with the new Sonicare as with the Oral-B (using a brand new brush head for a fair comparison here). As far as aesthetics, the Sonicare is styling! I love the midnight color, which is really a very dark blue, I'd say. The included travel case is MUCH more compact than what came with the Oral B, and easily fits in my small toiletry bag. The Oral B and it's large capsule always ended up in my suitcase. This one is barely larger than a normal toothbrush travel case, honestly. And, when on the road, you can just hook up a USB cable to the travel case for recharging when needed. Having said that, I seem to be getting several days (at least) out of a single charge- so I doubt I'll be needing that feature with any regularity. Honestly I couldn't be happier with this product, and would certainly recommend it if you are in the market!
