    Excellent toothbrush, App needs work

First, the toothbrush itself cleans very well, teeth feel downright polished after brushing. I even tried manual brushing ahead of the Sonicare, just to see; there really is a noticeable difference. The "Connected" part comes from an Android/IOS App (NOTE: this review is Android specific). Connecting is via Bluetooth, but you have to go through the App registration process; connecting directly via Bluetooth will fail. The App requires Location Services be enabled, and is pretty invasive in terms of personal information required. The toothbrush has three intensity settings and three 'programs', clean, whiten, and deep clean, which are different timer settings in the toothbrush. The App coaches you through the selected program, noting in real time where to brush and to reduce pressure or motion. While you're brushing, the guidance while brushing is very useful. That having been said, the App isn't perfect. The registration requirements are onerous; what possible reason could they have to require Location Services other than tracking and advertising?!?. An additional issues are limited 'brush to brush' history comparison; there's no real sense of whether your brushing is improving or not. The requirement that your phone needs to be in the bathroom with you and the App needs to be activated is the final kicker. Brushing your teeth means turning on your phone, going through the lock screen, starting the Sonicare app, then picking up the toothbrush.

First off, I received this product for free in exchange for my unbiased review. With that disclaimer out of the way, on to the toothbrush itself. I've always wanted a fancy toothbrush like this, but wasn't able (or willing) to shell out big money just for a toothbrush, no matter how good it was, and when this one came up for grabs through the Tech Insider Network, I figured this was probably my best chance to own one. To say it is fancy is an understatement. It has several settings (clean, white, and deep clean, and 3 spin speed settings) that make your brushing experience your own. In addition to these advanced settings, you can also sync it with your phone over bluetooth and get guidance on pressure and motion while brushing your teeth, tracking brush use, and setting cleaning goals. All in all, I like it. Would I pay $200 for a toothbrush? No. If you are looking for a good, fancy toothbrush, this is a good one!

I would definitely recommend this brush - even if it is a tad pricey. It replaced a cheaper Sonicare and I can certainly feel the difference. My teeth and gums feel a lot cleaner (slicker). Philips says the brush heads vibrate around 31,000 times per minute. The brush comes with 2 different heads, plastic travel caps, a carrying case, and a charging base and is supposed to last 2 weeks on a change - which I have yet to test. It uses motion sensors to track your brushing "technique" but you have to synch your phone using blue-tooth and install the companion app. This was easily done and once installed it shows areas you missed, if you are moving the brush to fast, using to much pressure, etc. It will also remind you to floss and use mouthwash - which is like having a your mom or dentist standing next to you. I initially had some problems with how to hold the brush so as not to accidentally press/change any of the setting buttons on the handle. But after a few brushings was able to figure out it out. The handle is very sleek with a large power button in the middle. Below that there is a rocker that sets the vibration intensity levels (low, medium, high). Below that there is a button and another set of LED indicators for the three brushing modes - 1) Clean is the default two-minute mode (with tone indicating every 20 seconds) 2) White is meant to remove surface stains by adding 2 additional 20 second intervals to the 2 minutes default, to be used on your front teeth 3) Deep Clean which increases vibration intensity and goes for 3 minutes. Lastly there is a battery life LED indicator. The app is cool and is useful with nice graphics and tracking options. But I wound up only using it a few times once I got the hang of where I was "missing" places and the correct speed to move the brush. But I plan on using it every few weeks just to check if I am still in the "groove". Having your phone around the sink area is not ideal but since I have a large counter area I am able to set the phone down rather than hold it in my other hand, while brushing. The main screen has a graphic depicting your teeth, with advice for you to reach your brushing goal(s). There is also an icon you can tap to view how long you have until your brush head needs to be replaced (I think the heads are supposed to last about three months and they have diminishing color strands to help track). At the top of the screen, there are tabs for Brush, Progress, Goals, and Tools. Brush returns you to the main screen. Progress shows you well- and under-brushed areas as indicated by yellow or white teeth on graphic, based on your last brushing session. Above that, you can scroll back and forth through your logged sessions. Scroll down and you'll see dental hygiene advice. Below that, there is a list of goals that you are/arent actively achieving. You can select which goals you want to focus on by using the Goals tab. The Tools tab can keep track of dental appointments and order additional Philips products, including brush heads, floss, mouthwash, and toothpaste.

    Amazing Toothbrush, Despite the Gimmicks

I never thought I'd be writing a review on a toothbrush, but here I am. I've used standard, non-electric toothbrushes for my entire life and have never had a cavity or any other dental problems. So I was naturally skeptical of this premium-priced electric toothbrush. It's been a great experience so far. Here my take: PROS: - Lightweight, ergonomic design makes it easy to grip and hold. - Multiple brushing intensity settings (I found the middle setting to work best for me). - Excellent brushing results -- My mouth and teeth truly feel cleaner compared to my standard toothbrush. The brush guides you through a brushing session with pauses and vibrations to indicate when it's time to change zones. - Built-in timer ensures that you are brushing for a sufficient amount of time. - Nice sturdy charging station that fits nicely into any bathroom. - The included travel case is very solid and will easily protect the toothbrush during trips (However, be sure to leave plenty of space for it in your luggage.) CONS / GIMMICKRY: - One of the main draws of this toothbrush is its Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone app. The app, while mostly useful, is often gimmicky and overly invasive. It will show you any spots of your mouth that need more attention while brushing or whether you're brushing too quickly. It will tell you when the brush head needs to be replaced. That's all fine and well, but here's where it crosses the line: Philips now emails me almost daily with "brushing tips" and reminders to sign up for a subscription-based brush head replacement program. - If I want to use the app while I brush, I need to have my phone in the bathroom with me and make sure the toothbrush is properly paired. For me, it's just too much work and not worth it. OVERALL: I love the "toothbrush" part of this product, but not necessarily the "connected" part. For those who obsess over dental hygiene, you might find the app very neat and useful. But for me, I'm going to enjoy the excellent cleaning that the toothbrush provides, and maybe I'll open the app once in a while. Despite the gimmicky app, highly recommended!

I've used powered toothbrushes for a few years now and have usually used inexpensive models from Colgate and Oral-B that are readily available at the grocery store. I have heard of Philips Sonicare toothbrushes and always wanted to see what made them stand out from conventional toothbrushes. What made me curious and want to take the leap was the fact that this toothbrush connects to your phone via Bluetooth to help ensure that you are brushing properly and thoroughly. Setup was simple and easy with the free Sonicare app. The brush comes with two replacement brush heads, one that adapts to your tooth and the other smaller brush head for precise cleaning in between teeth and for plaque removal. The Sonicare app keeps track of how many times you've used your brush head so you'll know exactly when it's time to reach for a new one. You have three vibration intensity levels to choose from: Clean, White, and Deep Clean. After reading the manual I found Clean to be my optimal setting, but upon first use I didn't like how intense the vibration was on my teeth compared to my former power toothbrush, especially on the lowest setting. It turns out you are actually able to set the toothbrush into a "beginner mode" that gradually intensifies the vibration within the first 15 uses so you can better get used to the tingly vibration on your teeth. I really recommend doing so especially if you're not used to power toothbrushes. The best part about using this brush was seeing how well I was brushing my teeth, and if I needed to focus more on a particular section. The brush uses an accelerometer to track whether you are brushing the front, top, or back of your teeth. If you don't brush a specific spot as well during the 2 minutes, the app will ask you to turn on your brush again for Touch-Ups so you have a second chance to brush up and get a complete clean. I guess the only main downside about using this brush is that you need to have your phone with you every time you brush, otherwise you won't be able to take advantage of it's full benefit. You know that feeling your mouth gets after an appointment with your dental hygienist? That's exactly how it feels after using this toothbrush every time. The smart connectivity functions are excellent, but it does come with a new learning habit of having to take your phone with you and opening a specific app every time before brushing.

Up to the point of using my old electric toothbrush, I thought I was doing pretty good. Now that I have used the Flexcare Platinum I realize how inadequate my old toothbrush was. I'm going to start with the use of the brush then get to some of the features. After the very first brushing my teeth felt amazing! Almost identical to when you have had your teeth cleaned and polished at the dentist and this is no exaggeration. A few things to be aware of, when you put your toothpaste on the brush do not turn it on until it's in your mouth. I didn't do this the first time and it shot the toothpaste across the sink. :O Now on to some of the features, this is a Bluetooth toothbrush! It has a base that charges the brush wirelessly. You have an app (free download) that you use while using the brush that tells you things like "Don't move the brush so much" or "You're applying too much pressure". It even keeps track of how well you brush your teeth and when to move on to the next set of teeth. The app divides your upper and lower teeth into three sections each and keeps you updated with progress. It even tells you when you're done or if you need to do some touch up on any areas. Once you have completed your brushing cycle, it will ask you if you have flossed, rinsed or cleaned your tongue not to mention others that you can choose to monitor as the app lets you customize what to track. The app will even let you submit your info to your dentist. I have noticed a considerable difference in the whiteness of my teeth despite not giving up drinking coffee. I will be buying an additional brush for my wife.

    FEEL THE CLEAN!

The last electric toothbrush I owned was 15 yrs ago. So, after using this one, I was really impressed with how technology has evolved! After trying all settings, I absolutely had no soreness or discomfort of any kind. As a matter of fact, even after the 1st use, my teeth and gums felt so healthy. My gums really had a vibrant clean feel and a "pleasing" tingle for a couple of hours afterwards. In other words, a very clean and healthy feel. The app was easy to work with for me but I wish they had a macOS version of it. It does take a little getting used to when you are used to using a manual brush for a long time, but I got the hang of it fairly quickly. You can make adjustments directly on the brush controls for activating/de-activating the pressure sensor, the brush pacer and the "Easy Start" features. You do have to make your brushing mode selections Before turning it on which is no biggy. So, that means you can't start out on clean and change to white mode or deep clean while the brush is on. Overall, I give this a 5-Star for high quality and for how fresh your mouth will feel after using it!

I've never used an electric toothbrush before, so this was a totally new experience for me. At first I HATED it--the vibrations shook all the toothpaste right off the brush, and it tickled my mouth like crazy. It did make my mouth feel really clean though, so I kept at it. I (thankfully) got used to the feeling very quickly and now I really enjoy using it. The product itself has to be charged--it has a base that holds two toothbrush heads (which is great if you want to share the toothbrush without having to buy two bases) and charges the unit. The charge lasted a week while I traveled over the holidays and only one "dot" was gone, so it probably could have lasted a while longer. There is an app you can download that's....interesting. It does offer tips and tells you if you're brushing wrong (too hard, too fast, etc). It syncs over bluetooth with your toothbrush, so you can now have yet another connected item. It's interesting, but doesn't feel wholly necessary, and makes getting ready in the morning take a bit longer. I've used it a couple of times out of curiosity, but my teeth feel pretty clean without it...The heads are easy to change and according to the manufacturer should be changed every three months, though that seems a little early to me, and can get a little expensive. The biggest downside, of course, is the price. I'm not sure I can convince myself this toothbrush does that much better of a job than a $3 toothbrush from the drugstore. My back teeth (that have always given me problems) feel cleaner than they ever have, and the rest of my mouth feels great, so there's that. I tend to scrub and obviously it's not what they need. Overall if you're in the market for an electric toothbrush you can't do better than this. It does a great job cleaning, and there are settings for whitening and plaque removal if you want to tailor it to a specific need.

I've been using premium Philips Sonicare tooth brushes for a long time now and I love them. This one is even nicer than the older one it replaced. The "connected" feature, while not really necessary by any means is really cool. It guides you through brushing 6 sections of your teeth in 2 minutes and gives your prompts for doing some touchup (if it feels like you might have missed some spots) or wether you scraped your tongue, rinsed or flossed. It also keeps track of how many times it was used so you know when it's time to replace your toothbrush head. The only thing I would change about the app right now is the ability to maybe customize the brushing session a little bit. Maybe I'd rather brush for 3 minutes instead of 2. Maybe I like brushing 4 quadrants instead of 6 sections. Little things that could tweak the way you brush would be nice. Other than that, though, excellent toothbrush. My mouth feels clean when I'm done brushing.

    Good Toothbrush, Invasive App

As a toothbrush I'm really happy with the Sonicare Flexcare. I've always liked Sonicare toothbrushes and this one performs really well. There are three settings of increasing strength, and I've been using the "white" or middle setting. This one seems to clean more thoroughly than my older Sonicare. I also like the travel case it comes with. It's sturdy, if not a little bulky. My main issue is with the app. It asks a lot of questions during setup. Some are to help tracking the way you brush, but some are obviously for marketing purposes. Indeed, Philips has been emailing me with "tips" the last few days, which I'm sure will evolve into reminders to buy more brush heads and then more Philips products. Another thing I didn't factor in is that if I want to use the app to guide my brushing I have to have my phone in the bathroom with me. It's very neat to see how it keeps track of how hard I'm brushing or if I'm going over certain areas too fast, but to I neeeeed to know that? Is it worth the extra price? One thing I did learn is that I've been brushing too fast. After a couple of sessions with the app I was able to spend a more appropriate amount of time brushing.

I've not had an electric toothbrush before so this is my first experience. With this unit, I must say it is a very good experience. This thing really cleans -- so much so that I wonder now why I've not done this earlier. The various speeds and cleaning modes are useful. The Bluetooth app may be of interest to some, but not necessarily my thing. Very pleased with this...
