Disappointed…stay away from it!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately Phillip’s quality at least on these toothbrushes is very disappointed, this is my 3rd product including a dual set from a wholesale store in 3 years and the last one which is this one from Best Buy only lasted 7 months. I’ve been forced to change to the OralB brand hoping for more longevity of the product.

Another Great Toothbrush from Philips
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This my second Sonicare product, and I'm happy to report that it is still the best toothbrush on the market, now it's just a little easier to use! This is a nice looking product. It's simple to set up, charges quick, and the brush-heads are very easy to change. They recommend every 3 months, but of course your mileage may vary. The brush itself has three settings (white, gums and clean) and they all have a different "intensity" to them. One change in this version is that the brush indicates when you're brushing too hard, which is great since it helps prevent wear on your teeth. My wife and I both use these, and she had a little difficulty adjusting to the sensation, but once she did totally agreed it's worth it. It's an odd feeling for sure, but your teeth and mouth feel so clean when you're finished! The brush heads at regular price can be expensive, but there is a coupon for 1/2 off a 2-pack in the box, and Best Buy often runs the replacements as a "deal of the day" for 1/2 off, so really they're not too bad. You likely wont' find yourself changing them as often as they recommend, either. The best thing about these brushes is my trips to the dentist. I'm a tea drinker (which stains worse than coffee from what I'm told) and my dental hygienist told me she can't even tell and asked what I do. When I told her I use the Sonicare she just raved about them for a while. Dentists really do love them. Highly recommended!

Lasted four months , poor quality
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several Sonicare products in the past but this one is very poor quality. The shaft that hold the brush is very loose and the brush makes a very annoying noise. If I hod the brush while I am brushing is is a little better Time to move on to another brand.

Great Powered Toothbrush - Not So for the Tongue
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using the Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 for a few days, I feel like my teeth are cleaner than with the manual toothbrush I have used for all these years. I like how the 2 minute timer with 30 second notices makes sure I don’t rush and miss any spots. I tried all three settings, Clean, White, and Gum Care, and could feel the differences in each. The base feels well built, with a nice rubberized finish that allows for a great non-slip grip. The charging base is simple, yet it’s a perfect size and functions as you’d expect. Even though the toothbrush is light, I felt it was a little longer than what I was used to with my manual brushes, causing me to gag. However, I got used to it over time. My biggest gripe would be how the brush head is too small to be used to brush the tongue. The small head size made it easier to get in the grooves of my teeth, but it was no match for my manual toothbrush in terms of cleaning my tongue effectively. If Philips would add a tongue cleaning head and setting, it would be the only brush I need. I would recommend this toothbrush to anyone wanting cleaner and whiter teeth and anyone who needs a little help remembering to brush for 2 minutes. Just be prepared to find an alternative for cleaning your tongue.

Does exactly what it says it will!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the toothbrush that I should have purchased years ago. I've always thought that these were overpriced 'gadgets' that didn't really serve much purpose, when you can brush your teeth yourself. My wife has sworn by these type of toothbrushes for years, and in fact has the 'Ross Geller' teeth to show for it! She's gone through about three of these toothbrushes in the time we've been married. So I finally caved and picked up the Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 Rechargeable Toothbrush. And being a guy, I chose black, because lets face it, it's the most manly looking one they make! Now if only the brush heads were black as well, it would be perfect! I have to say, I've been converted. I like the quadrant timing, that allows you to brush each quarter of your mouth (bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right) in 30 second intervals. It then beeps for you to move on. That's a nice way of making sure that you have a good solid 30 seconds on each area of your mouth. It also has a pressure sensor, that changes the vibration resonance of the toothbrush if you press too hard on your teeth. You certainly notice it as well, because it's vibrating inside your head. This 5100 model also has three brushing options: CLEAN - this cleans your teeth (with your aid obviously - you still have to hold the toothbrush!) for a timed 2 minutes. WHITE - This cleans your teeth for 2 mins 30 secs, and recommended to be used with an optional 'white' brush head. GUMS - This cleans for 3 mins, using an optional 'gum' brush head. It's a shame you don't get these 'optional' brush heads in a pack costing $90, hence a dropped star in the rating. The device is lightweight, and ergonomic and works well. My only complaint I guess would be that the head is really small compared to the toothbrushes I have been used to using all of these years, so it's taken some getting used to. It comes with 'EasyStart' a function that modulates the power over your first 14 brushing cycles to get you used to the Sonicare experience. The included charger is simple to use, just plugs into the wall and the toothbrush sits on the base. A little green light lets you know the charge status. Full charge is suggested to last a full 24 hours of use. It also comes with a little carrying case for when traveling and a little cap to cover the toothbrush head. It features smart brush heads that sync with your handle to give you a replacement reminder. An orange LED lights up when it's time to replace your brush head. All in all, a nice little piece of kit that I was surprised I would like and enjoy using. You can call me converted to the Sonicare range. I'd gladly recommend this to friends and family!

One Fancy Toothbrush
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I honestly had no idea these Sonicare toothbrushes were this good. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a regular toothbrush. My teeth are honestly the cleanest they've ever been in their lives. The 5100 model adds a bunch of extra features to a standard Sonicare that are really awesome. At it's core it still uses the same Sonic wave technology that all Sonicare toothbrushes use to force plaque off of your teeth. Trust me it works. It also includes special modes for cleaning your gums that will adjust the way the toothbrush operates to clean your gums better. Not sure if the special modes works any differently but, my ums are clean so I guess it's working. It also has a white mode which supposedly will remove stains from your teeth. My teeth don't really have too many stains so I'm not sure if this function works. It also has a built-in sensor that vibrates if you are brushing too hard, it's weird but, pretty cool and will keep you from harming your gums. The built-in timer is one of my favorite features, it takes all of the guess work out of it. It'll let you know once you've brushed each section of your teeth long enough. I've never really pushed the battery life to the test but, I have left it off the charger for about a week and it made it through the week with battery left over. So I wouldn't doubt the advertised 2 weeks. Overall, this is the best toothbrush I've ever used. Whether or not all of the bells and whistles are worth the extra money over the standard Sonicare are up to you but, I don't think you will be unhappy with this one.

Noticeably Different Experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box: Brushing base, charger stand, toothbrush head, travel case, documentation. Impressions: I went from a regular toothbrush to an electric. Older electric tooth brushes tended to just vibrate and seemed kind of gimmicky. Not the case here. Grab a towel, turn on your faucet, and stick this toothbrush under the running water to see how aggressive (in a good way) it's "sonic care" really is. Personally after using this tooth brush, I felt like my old brush just wasn't getting the job done. Features: The cleaning will run for 80 seconds with a beep every 20 seconds to let you know it's time to move to a different "quadrant" of your mouth. I've also used the whitening mode with whitening toothpaste I use about every other brush. My teeth did "feel" cleaner, which is important but I feel like i need a few more weeks of use before I can "see" a noticeable difference. Final Thoughts; It does take some getting used to because of the brush head size. It can also be super annoying when you take the brush out of your mouth and it's still vibrating, slinging toothpaste everywhere, but this is some habits you have to get used to (like turning it off if you need to take it out, brushing with your mouth closed). I really enjoy how much cleaner my mouth felt when I was done brushing and I'm curious to get my dentist's opinion when I go back for my checkup.

Very easy to recommend powered toothbrush.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SONICARE Protective Clean 5100 Rechargeable Toothbrush. It’s been awhile since we’ve owned a powered toothbrush. We thought those earlier efforts came up short. They were noisier but not especially robust or solid feeling. Their batteries didn’t tolerate the abusive charging cycles, and you definitely wanted to bring the recharger with you. This newest Sonicare definitely solved every issue we ever had and goes well beyond. The 5100 hums softly, but feels pretty powerful in your hand. It vibrates the replaceable brush head at high speed. There are 3 different settings (clean, white, gum) which changes the time cycle so you can add further brushing for more tooth polishing or gum massaging. The power and speed are modified by a sensor in the Sonicare that reacts to too much pressure in your technique. It’s a warning system that your leaning in too much. Cool. The lithium batteries appear easily capable of storing a charge for 1 to 2 week trips, so you may not need to bring along the small charging brick. As you’d expect, Sonicare has several different brush heads. There are LED lights to remind you to change brush heads or to alert you about recharging. The surfaces are all smooth and seamless so it's very easy to clean. This is all nicely thought out. I think we’re back to stay with Sonicare Rechargeable toothbrushes. Very easy to recommend.

Great toothbrush
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Sonicare product and replaced a five year old one that finally quit. After brushing with one of these it feels like I've just been to the dentist. The three different cleaning modes are easy to switch between. The handle emits a slightly different vibration to let you know its time to move to the next area of your mouth to ensure proper coverage of your entire mouth. I like the "smart heads" that let you know its time to change to a new one, unlike my old unit that kept track of usage through the app. This toothbrush is not app enabled but I rarely used that functionality before, so its not a deal-breaker. The only thing I disliked about this one is that the handle is black and it shipped with a white click-on brush head. Black heads are available so I don't know why they wouldn't match them when packaging. Otherwise I've been very impressed with the toothbrush. Two week battery life is a big plus and the handle lets you know when its getting close to time to charge.

Great Toothbrush
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this toothbrush. It is the most advanced electric toothbrush I have ever owned. It has 3 different brush modes (Clean, White, Gum Health). It also syncs up with the brush head to tell you when it is time to change your brush head based on amount of usage and pressure while you brush. If you apply too much pressure during brushing, the tooth brush pulsates so that you know to ease up on the pressure. The tooth brush also keeps time and stops and quickly beeps when it is time to brush a different part of your mouth. The brush head is a lot easier to change than other brands I have used before, although they are more expensive. The package comes with a charger that the toothbrush sits on. It says one charge should last 2 weeks of brushing. The package also comes with a carrying case which is great for storage/travel. All in all, after brushing, my teeth feel extremely clean! I am happy with the product and would definitely recommend it!

Is This the Model for You?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Phillips Sonicare line of brushes do an amazing job and this new addition to the family is no different. Choosing one from the many different models can look confusing at first. The ProtectiveClean 5100 has most of the features of it's more expensive relatives at a very decent price. For those wondering, what makes this version all about "gum health" is the 3rd brushing mode "Gum Care". The 2 extra modes extend the time after the initial 2 minutes of use - "White" continues for another 30 seconds so you can concentrate on the front of your teeth and "Gum Care" continues for another 60 seconds at a reduced power (although not that noticeable, think it's less vibrations per minute) for you to focus on your gums. If you have sensitive teeth and gums, combined with the included Gum Care brush head which seems to have softer bristles, this may be the right choice for you. I do have sensitive gums and it felt entirely comfortable. This doesn't make my gums bleed like a regular spinbrush does nearly every time. However the product isn't limited to this as you can apply any of the Sonicare brush heads. The ProtectiveClean also has the same technology as the rest of them, including the built in vibration feature to let you know if you are brushing too hard as well as a similar feature called "Quadpacer" that notifies you to switch mouth quadrants in 30 second intervals. Although I don't believe it says anywhere, this model DOES also have the great "Easy Start" feature that starts in a low power state and then slowly increases the power over the first 14 uses to help you get used to the toothbrush. Myself included, the strength of the Sonicare brushes can be a bit overpowering to some when coming from other standard toothbrushes. I think this is an important feature that should always be advertised. A new feature I'm seeing with this model and others is "BrushSync" which now tells you when to change your head as opposed to visually inspecting the color loss on the brush heads. Supposedly it tracks your personal use in terms of pressure and length and knows exactly when you need a change. This is really cool and intuitive, and I hope in a couple of months it proves useful. My only minor gripe is while it is lighter than the more expensive models with all the bells and whistles, it could still use a rough texture on the back for grip to reduce the chance of slipping out of the hands. In the end, when it comes to choosing which Sonicare that is right for you it comes down to preference of features. This model has only one intensity/speed, however the next model up (the 6100) has 3 intensity/speeds to choose from. I do think it's worth the extra money for that option however if it's not of importance than this one will do you just fine while saving you a bit of money. One thing for certain though is using any of the Sonicare brushes will clean your teeth way better than any standard inexpensive spinbrush, whiten them and will make sure to KEEP them clean.

Great toothbrush
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is many steps up above my previous Sonicare toothbrush (HX6210). My old model basically had one button and ran for 2 minutes of brushing. This new 5100 ProtectiveClean (HX6850) has multiple settings and abilities to maintain a healthy and clean mouth. With the BrushSync technology, simply attach any of the available heads and the brush will automatically detect the appropriate settings. However, you can manually adjust the settings to 3 variable speeds or to do a basic cleaning, whitening or gum care. My favorite feature is the pressure sensitive warning if you push to hard on your teeth. The brush head gives off a slight pulsing sensation to let you know you are being too rough on your teeth. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Solid e-toothbrush
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I had a Sonicare 3000 series for probably 6-7 years. It did everything I asked of it. This one has a couple of extra “modes” for “whitening” and “gum care”. I can’t see any real difference in those modes, other than the pattern of vibrations. That said, I got this about 3 wks before my latest dental cleaning, and my dental assistant was amazed at how little she had to do. I did not think it would be a great check-up ( I care about these things). I didn’t want to spend $69 on a —— toothbrush, but it is doing it’s job better than expected. I do wonder if it has more to do with the new brushead, but I can’t prove it otherwise. As long as this lasts several years, it’s a 5-star purchase.

Excellent Electric Toothbrush - Good battery life
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this toothbrush a lot. It works really well and I don’t feel as bad if I skip a day of flossing. I have noticed that my mouth feels fresher for a longer period of time after brushing. Significantly longer than with my regular toothbrush. Some electric toothbrushes feel like they’re assaulting the mouth but this one feels like it does a good job without giving me a headache or ripping up my mouth. There are settings on it which I am still adjusting to such clean, white and gum care but each of them feels great on the teeth and gums. Also, the battery is still going strong after 2 a day brushing at 2 minutes each for about a week and half. Yes, I recommend this for you and your family.
