Customers consistently note the Viva Collection 2.75 qt. TurboStar™ Analog Air Fryer's ease of use and cleaning, as well as its ability to produce juicy, flavorful food with little to no oil. However, some users mention the small basket size and limited capacity as drawbacks, finding it insufficient for larger families or meals. The air fryer's noise level during operation is also a point of concern for some customers. While many praise its performance, a few mention that the instructions could be clearer and that more precise temperature control would be beneficial.

The Hot Air Fryer weighs about 10 lbs. and is made from what feels like a higher grade plastic. It is well constructed. It comes with a pan/fryer basket all in one. Cleaning was a snap just pull out bottom door and everything snaps off for easy quick cleaning. The added cord wrap on the back keep the cord stored when not in use. The included instructions a very detailed and easy to read. They suggest downloading the App on your phone or tablet for extra hint and tips. I highly recommend this. There are over 220 recipes and the app will let you filter your searches by meat /vegetable/time/type of cuisine and more. Hint: go to Pinterest to find even more uses, (hundreds of them). Cooking is easy, just check the hint chart on the top of the machine for your type of food you are using and set the temp, set the time, fill your basket to the desired amount (under the max line) and check on it half way through to see if you need to shake it to ensure items are fully cooked. Then when done, drain grease if there is any and plate the food. We tried some Vegetables and potato wedges. The wedges took about 25 minutes (less if you slice them thin.) They were golden brown and were awesome. Tasted just like fried potatoes. The vegetables were cooked perfect. They tasted better than most under cooked steamed vegetables. I really like the fact that the fryer uses no oil for a healthier more vitamin rich dinner or snack. Fries has 75% less fat/oil and are crisp like a conventional fryer. Pan will hold enough for 4 servings. I would recommend this to family and friends any day. Everyone can have their favorite foods in minutes at our house now!!

What It Does, It Does Very Well......

What it does not do is hold very much. if your going to fix two things at once it would have to be for just one person. Now it can easily hold 3-4 pieces of chicken depending on their size, but thats about it at once, dont expect to do an entire meal for two in it. Dont think its going to replace your stove or oven for everything you cook but it can save heating up the kitchen when cooking some appetizers or when doing a load of fries (for 2 people) while the other food cooks on the stovetop or out on the grill. The outside gets warm somewhat and the bottom borders on hot, so we use it on an old bamboo cutting board to protect our counters, just in case. Ive done fries and frozen Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno poppers in it. The fries were very good, not quite deep fry quality but much moister and better than most oven fries. The poppers were every bit as good as if I had fixed them in the oven. The Mrs has done her homemade crab cakes and homemade coconut shrimp in it, both of those were delicious. We used very little oil as your supposed to do and didn't really notice any smoking from the unit as some have mentioned. The base is an easy wipe clean for cleanup and all removable parts are dishwasher safe Bottom line: 1. Its Small with meal size limitations in a single batch. (1.8 pound capacity) 2. Its a bit spendy. 3. I'm glad to have it in our kitchen. 4. Would I recommend it to a friend? You bet, I already have ;)

A great addition to any kitchen

This Philips Air Fryer is a unique small appliance that is a great addition to any kitchen. Although small in size and slightly noisy in operation, the efficient cooking process provides a healthier alternative to traditional frying while not compromising on taste. PROS: Ease of use - This air fryer is incredibly simple to use. The two dial system (temperature & time) simplify the cooking process. Cleaning is just as easy due to the non-stick, dishwasher safe surfaces that easily separate from one another. (NOTE: The basket WILL release when you press the release button. The plastic case will also crack when it hits the kitchen floor if you release from counter height. I may or may not know from experience.) Cooking/ taste: As mentioned above, the cooking process is very simple. It also produces a great flavor with minimal mess. I have only used it for some meats (chicken & fish) as well as cooking some frozen fried foods. Everything that I have made so far has come out tasting fantastic! CONS: Size - This is pretty much the only knock I can make on this air fryer. Although its small size helps to reduce cooking time for most food, It also reduces the overall amount of food you can prepare at a time. I would say that 2 people would be the max you should expect to prepare for using it. Ultimately, this air fryer does what it is intended to do and it does it very well. It will likely not replace any of you other small appliances, but it would likely make a welcome addition to any kitchen even if it is a bit on the pricy side.

Good results, but not the same as frying

Rather than a fryer, this is closer to a convection oven. It cooks evenly with little to no oil but you won’t get the same result as you would with frying. The texture and crispness will not be the same. You can actually get the similar results from either baking or searing in a pan. With that said though, this isn’t a bad tool to have in the kitchen. It’s easy to use, more hands off, healthier than using oil, and once you learn the timing, can probably produce good results. The minor negatives with this model is that the temperature dial is hard to turn, and the numbering is a bit imprecise. Cleaning is somewhat of a hassle with the different parts, but it’s not hard. Good: Big enough to cook up to 4 servings Easy to use, set and forget. Cooks evenly. Comes with a recipe app Bad: Dial is a bit hard to adjust Cleaning I’ve used another air fryer before, and this one cooks better, probably due to the curve bottom that circulate air better. It’s also big enough to cook a few servings. I put 6 wings and still had room left. Here are some of things I tried to cook and the results: Chicken wings (non breaded) came out closer to hot wings. The skin is not really crisp but not soft like it would be from baking. Fried chicken comes out crisp, but it won’t have the thick crunchy crust. Salmon with skin cooked evenly, but the skin isn’t as crunchy. Frozen fries came out close to deep frying, but softer. Basically the air fryer is somewhere in the middle between frying and baking. It works better if you spray a bit of oil on the skin. Overall not bad for what it does. If you eat a lot of fried food then this would be a healthier alternative.

    Tasty Air Frying!

My wife and kids all love fried foods, but obviously they aren't that healthy. The Phillips Viva Air Fryer does a great job preparing many of our favorites without the issues of baking. Now things may not come out all wonderfully greasy and flavorful as a deep fryer, but this is a great alternative to baking or consuming fat filled foods. We've primarily used it for french fries, and it's super easy to use. You dump a bunch in, turn it to 350, turn the time on and let it sit. You can pull the basket out and shake to ensure things get well mixed. The results are crispy and delicious. I've yet to make homemade fries for it, but even frozen come out great w/ much better taste. I think what makes this great is how it heats and how it makes things crispy without overcooking or burning them. There are lots of suggestions and recommendations in both the manual and an included docs. The basket is easy to remove, clean and get back to cooking. My wife loves how easy it is to use and how it says cool on the outside. The basket clicks into place and requires a small amount of force to open. We have small hands around the house right now, so having another appliance that can cook without posing a risk for the kids is great. I really recommend this appliance - you get a lot of the great taste of deep fried foods, but a lot better for you!

Really like this air fryer. I've resorted to using the microwave for pretty much everything and I REALLY missed my curly fries and fish fillets. With this nifty appliance, I can finally enjoy these treats again. Depending on your needs, the basket may/may not be too small. If this is used for a family of four, yeah, it'll probably be a little on the small side. But if it's for a single/couple, the basket size should be plenty big enough for most everything. Items do tend to take a little longer to cook I've noticed however, since it's pretty much hands off cooking with this, it's not a huge issue for me. Simply throw in your food, set dial/timer, and just wait for the ding. There is a learning curve with this since some foods don't necessarily include air dryer cooking times. There are some general rules for cooking time/heat on the unit itself however it can vary. I'm still trying to learn adequate cooking times/temperature with this thing but eventually I'll get the hang of it. Cleaning is pretty simple as well. The whole basket lifts out and can be separated for easy cleaning. So far, this seems like a really nifty kitchen appliance to have around. I've read other reviews where these don't last too long or generate too much smoke however I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary so far.

Perfect appliance for your apartment or dorm room

First things first - this product is NOT a replacement for a microwave oven. What it does offer is the benefits of a convection oven in a compact and thoughtful package. As such, it is very well suited to providing you with the frying experience without the additional oil, smoke, splatter and mess. It provides a generous sized cooking basket and is easy to breakdown for cleaning. It doesn't require a ton of counter space. It is also the perfect solution for preparing a multitude of frozen food appetizers from chicken wings to taquitos. The unit is solidly constructed (heavy) and moderately noisy when it runs (mostly fan noise). Pay attention to the warnings - parts of this sucker get HOT when you use it and they stay hot for quite awhile after use. Overall, I feel that this would be the perfect companion for any apartment dweller, dorm room resident or anyone else who wants the benefit of convection cooking but has limited room.

This appliance is easy to use and makes a "healthy" fried chicken :) It has a timer and temperature control dial to make things as simple as possible. There is a learning curve. I am still trying to master cooking times since I have never used something like this before. I wish there was a window or something so you can look at the food to determine if something is done. Food is juicy and flavorful. I am searching for recipes for this. It is well built and I would have like to see more accessories for the price. Phillips makes good stuff and this appliance lives up to the quality you'd expect from them. The only con I could really think of is the size of the cooking area. It feels like you can only cook for one person at a time. There is a larger version of this fryer that I would recommend if you have a larger family. Enjoy, it is a great way to cut back on grease and fatty foods.

    Great alternative to traditional fryers

I've been thinking about getting a traditional fryer for the occasional wings and fries, and I'm glad I never bought one now that I have this. I was skeptical at first, but I'm very impressed with the results. I'm not going to lie, food from an air fryer do not taste as good compared to a traditional fryer, but it's better than an oven (and of course it's better for your health compared to a traditional fryer). Philips says you can bake items like cakes with it, but I haven't tried that yet. Fries, wings, chicken patties/nuggets, and mini corndogs taste great though. I've seen other reviews mention smoke, but after several uses, I haven't seen any smoke. I clean mine after each use (and cleanup is short and quick and easy since it's non-stick).

I'm really enjoying cooking on the Philips - Viva Collection Hot Air Fryer. Just got it this week and have done multiple dishes of veggies, steak and pork. All have come out delicious. The meat stays juicy and it's great to use little or no oil. It doesn't take long to figure out how the unit works, but you'll probably find yourself experimenting some to dial in the best method for your needs. This unit has the mechanical timer, which works great. However, if you want a few more features, like a warmer, you may want to opt for the slightly more expensive model. The only negative would be the limited capacity, but that's to be expected with the technology. It was plenty for my wife and I.

I really enjoyed cooking with this air fryer. I tested it out with chicken wings and with crinkle cut french fries. The chicken was very juicy and tender. The fries were delicious! It was nice to know I wasn't deep frying my food in vegetable oil! The unit itself is relatively quiet. It is very basic, with a wheel to select the cooking temperature and a twist timer to turn the unit on and to set the run time. The non stick surface is very easy to clean as well! The fryer is relatively large so keep that in mind as storage could be a challenge in an already packed kitchen!

This fryer took a while to get the hang of. It is not as intuitive as I would have liked, but once I got it figured out, it cooks really well! I have cooked chicken and frozen fries and other frozen foods, and it does a great job with the foods I have cooked. It gives foods that crispy texture that true frying does, but with much less fat and mess. It will cook about enough fries 2-3 people I would say, so it is not a large fryer for a big gathering unless you are willing to cook multiple batches. I would recommend this to any couple or family that loves the fried food taste but wants to be a bit healthier about it.

This was very easy to use. You just set the temperature and turn the timer dial and you're good to go. Some food requires flipping or shaking during the cooking process. It takes a little trial and error to get the timing right but the frozen potstickers I made came out perfect. I also used it for frozen fries and they came out way better than they do in the oven or frying on the stove. Unlike the stove, this doesn't heat up my apartment and clean up was simple. It does not take up much counter space which was a plus. This is getting a lot of use already.

I have wanted and "air fryer" for some time now and was quite excited to use this one. It worked as I hoped it would, but had some things I didn't care for. When cooking french fries, the manual tells you to shake basket half way thru cooking time (must do this or the food in the middle of the basket will not be cooked evenly) my issue is when you pull the basket out, the fryer fan keep running. The fryer doesn't have a power button, the timer turns it on and then shuts off at the end of the cooking time. I followed the cooking times in the manual and overall was happy with the way the food came out. It is easy to over cook the food and dry it out. The fryer was a major pain to clean! I let it soak in the sink for 10 mins and scrubbed for 20 mins and had the hardest time getting the residue out. The fryer is also a bit large and takes up a lot of room in my small kitchen, making it more of a hassle to use. It works well, "air fries" nicely, and some may enjoy using the air fryer. I will stick to my regular ole oven.

I could hardly wait to try this out because I wanted to make fried zucchini circles like you get in some restaurants. Unfortunately, my first couple of attempts haven't worked out very well. However, I think if you know what you're doing (or eventually figure out what you're doing) this might be a useful appliance. There does seem to be a learning curve, though, so set your expectations accordingly. The air fryer seems to be solid and well-built, though the usable basket size is fairly small. I found the paper instructions to be somewhat confusing, but once you install the companion app there are some useful pictures and directions in the Tips & Tricks section. There's also a video that shows various foods being cooked. It also contains 221 recipes (as of this app version), but I found many of them to be a little peculiar. The 12 recipes suggested to "get you started" include brownies, chestnuts, a chocolate banana, croutons, and crispy potato skin wedges (the last one finally seemed like something I'd want to try). There was no recipe included for zucchini circles (in fact, searching for zucchini turned up 0 recipes) so I went to my old friend Google. After slicing and battering the zucchini I found that only half of it would fit on a single layer in the basket. (The $20 add-on rack would, I guess, double space for things like this.) After about 15 minutes of air frying the zuchini was done and it tasted fine. About 20 seconds later they were all gone and it was time to cool and clean the basket to fry the other half. The breading stuck in the wires and had to be soaked and brushed out which wasn't too much work, but still, it took some time. I plan to try some other things like potato fries or even zucchini fries (things that aren't breaded) to see if that works better. You can apparently put more in the basket at once that way. People seem to have success with chicken, so I'll try that as well. I know air fryers are crazy popular now, but I can't help wondering if they aren't just the latest appliance fad that may end up taking counter space and not being used as much as people hoped. If someone asked, I'd still recommend this as a good air fryer but would also warn it's not as simple and effortless to use as you might think.

There is very little to this product, and my this I mean it is simple to use clean and operate. It cooks fast, it works well, and if you can use less or no oil to cook something you are better off. There are three aspects to using the Phillips Viva Series Air Fryer. First, you set the temperature. The manual has a list of what temp things need to be cooked at and it is accurate for what I was cooking. Secondly, you need to know how long you need to cook the item. This is the only tricky part. The list is not all inclusive, so for some ethnic foods (we eat a lot of Arabic food in my house) you have to guess a little. The good part is that you can pull the tray at anytime during the cooking and take a look at the food to see it's progress. This minimizes the chance of over cooking things. Finally, there is the clean up. Most of the surfaces in the Air Fryer are coated so they clean well with a wet rag or a sponge and mild soap. It get the grease off very easily and it little effort. So far I have only done the basic easy things the kids like in the Air Fryer. That being chicken nuggets and french fries. Both turned out awesome and the kids at them up. I did find that after you cook things they are harder to season afterwards. Specifically, I am talking about added salt to french fries. So, instead I decided to add the salt to the fries before adding them to the Air Fryer, so the salt sticks better to the fries when they are still somewhat wet from being frozen. This worked better for me. All and all, as I mentioned before this could not be more easy to operate. As I mentioned with some of the food we eat, we had to guess a little but that is simple trial and error. The product works well, and it is awesome for those quick fix options when you just don't want to bake or cook something and you want things fast. We love our Air Fryer, and we will continue to put it to good use.

"Air Fryer" is a misnomer...it's a small high-speed convection oven! We've used it for baking, frozen foods including chicken, vegetables, and potatoes and pastries! It has a small capacity so you're not going to get fries for the whole family out of one basket, but it cooks enough for 1 or 2 at a time easily! Cleanup is a breeze and it doesn't use any oil!

I love being able to fry up some of my favorite dishes with almost no oil at all! The air fryer works just like claimed ( but does take a lot longer than a standard deep fryer). I finally used my air fryer and I am blown away! I made some french fries and they were beyond my expectations. I heard from others that food does not come out crunchy but more baked. However, my fries were crunchy without the grease. Also, the mess and clean up was so easy. I am going to make chicken nuggets tomorrow. I love this device!
