I wish it came with a manual but found it online. I still have to play with the buttons to achieve the results I wish. For someone more tech savvy it would probably be great.. Three times while I was interviewing my subject on File# A-1, after 10-12 minutes had elapsed, the recorder turned off (yes, I had fresh batteries in it). I turned the recorder back on, and it continued to record in a NEW file (File# A-2) without turning off, but the first 10-12 minutes of the interviews in File #A-1 were lost; they weren’t saved to the recorder. Zero bytes. It’s still under Philips warranty, and I will be returning it. I have purchased an Olympus recorder for about the same price, and it is far more intuitive in terms of initial set up and operation.

For this price I expected better quality plastic. I installed the included batteries and set up the date and time. I began recording with the Phillips Voice Tracer and attempted to end the recording an hour later but the voice recorder was off. I attempted to turn it back on and it was as if the batteries were dead. I placed new batteries in the voice recorder and it still wouldn’t come on. This recorder is defective. I’m returning it.
