I did a great deal of research before this purchase. This Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX is fantastic. It performs fast and sounds excellent. I bought it specifically to work with my Apple devices. I am amazed with the slick interface and ease of use. Apple Car Play works via Bluetooth or wired direct to my iPhone, which is not common in car audio. I will admit that installation is daunting if you intend to use every feature and want it to look like an OEM system. I installed it in my 2004 F-150 Lariat with a steering wheel control interface. Because I am so finicky about these things and because I also installed new speakers and a sub-woofer, the installation involved removal of seats, center console, A-pillar trims, sill plates, kick panels, dash trims, glove box, driver's side lower dash, and the headliner. I also installed front and rear cameras and rear-seat monitors, which required signal wires from both ends of the truck. But with all that cable and so many connection, the Pioneer unit handles everything with utter elegance. I fully recommend this and can also state that, after exhausting price comparison, Best Buy is the place to purchase.

Installing is easy on your own. Works better with Apple Carplay. Android only hooks through bluetooth audio well. Camera is very clear & stereo itself could be better in my opinion sounds suffocated. But is new so still playing around with it.Had to shut entire car off to get it back to home screen did freeze on me today when using my android.GPS is good on it no problems. If u have Apple iphone works best in my opinion.

Installation: It was simple; however, I ordered a new harness designed for my vehicle. It did not come with an orange/ white stripped wire (Display Dimmer). So I removed the pin and wire for my former harness and applied it to the new one. Now, the display dims when the car exterior lights are on. GPS antenna location: I placed it right next to my solar sensor for my auto climate control. I wasn’t about to apply that ugly metal mat/ antenna to my dash. So I just applied the antenna alone, painted the visible wire to match the color of my dash and boom! I was in my garage with the door closed, and when I pulled up maps, it knew my exact location. Fan Noise: If you’re sitting in your car with no media playing, of course you will hear the fan. But just how many of us do that? The db’s of the fan are far from being loud. Look at it as being equivalent to a computer fan. Screen Temporment: Remember these three things. Clean screen, clean figure tips, and a light touch. My screen has been very responsive contrary to others that have posted other wise. Features/ Functionality: I saw one reviewer comment on the lack of functionality. I believe this unit to be loaded with options, and if you follow directions, you’ll be able to utilize all the functionality this head unit has to offer. Unfortunately, it won’t “auto vac” my car. ☹ Speaker and Subwoofer Configurations: Plenty of options to choose from. I am a little disappointed in CarPlay though. Customization is limited. It appears that you are stuck with the default apps (Phone, Music, Maps, Messages, Now Playing, NEX, Podcast, Calendar, and Settings) and unable to add a new one to the screen. I saw a few examples on YouTube, and it appears that if your car come with CarPlay, your options are greater. Pioneer’s Car AV Assist is a pain to set up. In fact, you cannot use Apple’s CarPlay and Car AV Asist in unisense. They are incompatible with each other. I chose to stick with CarPlay. The features in Car Play are very similar to that of Car AV Assist. Firmware Updates/ Programming/ Pairing/ Wifi: There is an important task before playing with any of the settings, UPDATE the Radio’s Firmware (Current Firmware Update March, 2024), and UPDATE your iPhone or Android Phone. Trust me, you’ll save yourself from being stressed out and getting headaches. I suggest performing the firmware update for the head unit via the supplied USB-C cable. Don’t worry there is an adapter for those that continue to use the USB-A cable. It is a secure connection. And besides, you haven’t set up Car Assist yet. So do yourself a favor. I found pairing my phone to the head unit to be the easiest step in the whole process. Now connecting Wi-Fi? well, that presents more of a challenge. I visited Pioneer’s website and printed step by step instructions on how to connect the head unit via Wi-Fi with your phone set as the Hotspot. From my experience, be certain that your Wi-Fi option is on. Pioneer Tech Support told me it should be off. On the contrary, it needs to be enabled.

Read past the good and bad lists for details for details for a 2017 WRX install. Pro-tip, pay the extra for the Scosche piano black double DIN bezel for install, much better than the half silver Metra one. The good: Better, easier to read, more responsive touchscreen than stock head unit in 2017 WRX. Clean power confirmed to volume level 39 out of 40 total. If installed with a Maestro RR you get on screen gauge, a built in ODBII scanner, door open indicators, real time battery output, and TPMS real time data on a 2017 WRX(something it doesn't come with factory). Wireless Android Auto/Carplay works quite well with a few random disconnects. Uses your phones Bluetooth for calls and Wi-Fi Direct for AA/CP audio streaming which is waaay better quality than Bluetooth streaming. Overall audio quality is quite good with a lot of controls like adjustable slope and frequency for LPF and HPF, time alignment, phase control, etc.. The bad: Small capacitive buttons on left side are too small and difficult to use for volume. A simple knob would be better. Overall system responsiveness especially after boot could be better but is vast improvement over most stock head units. Hopefully this improves with firmware updates. Firmware update process is maddening. Be patient. I never could get the direct USB thumb drive method to work which usually is the easy way. After many attempts using the phone app wireless update method, over a few days of trying, it eventually worked. So hang in there. Pioneer needs to work on that. Firmware updates gone wrong can brick a device and should not be this difficult to navigate. The details: Not perfect but as a replacement for the factory head unit in our 2017 WRX it's a vast improvement. If you make this particular switch the first impression may be a bit muddled by the fact you're going from a craptastic resistive screen to a capacitive (like a modern smartphone) screen. The capacitive screen does not work well with the long slow heavy presses you are used to using with the stock head unit. You have to learn how to use light quick "taps" and after the initial 30 seconds after boot up the responsiveness becomes much better than stock. The capacitive buttons on left side of unit are too small and difficult to use. If I could change anything it would be to get one with a actual knob. If you're like us you wanted to keep all the factory steering wheel and backup camera functionality plus some and you had it installed with a Maestro RR and SU2 harness. So you just get used to using the steering wheel controls so it's kinda a moot point. (Note for the WRX application we used this for if you have an access port or plan to use anything on your ODBII port you'll have to pick one or the other and switch between them as the Maestro RR occupies the OBDII port for the car features. It's driving a full set of Kicker CS components with mid driver in front doors and new tweeters up front and Kicker CS coaxials in back doors. I tested the head units outputs with my oscilloscope and it doesn't start clipping until 39 out of 40 total volume and around 20 watts RMS power per channel. So you can drive it up to one notch below max and get clean sound coming out. That's the sign of a good clean head unit.

For the most part this Apple car play stereo is great. Connects with my phone almost as soon as I start the ignition. The issues is there has been a few times were it noes not connect at all. I think for the price of the unit all these bugs should be fixed . Maybe in a $259 unit I but not in something of this price.

First off, let me start by saying that this is an excellent product if you don’t already have a modern infotainment system. It’s great for safety because you don’t have to take your eyes off the road while answering messages and doing other tasks on your phone. However, at least in my experience, on Spotify you are not able to add songs to the queue, either with Siri or buy actually adding a song to the queue by hand. If you tell Siri to add a song to the queue, She will start playing the song in the existing queue will be erased. I listen to music whenever I’m in the car and being able to add songs to the queue is very important to me. I’m not sure if this situation is specific to this product, though. But overall it’s a very high-quality product that can turn any older car into a more modern and safe vehicle.

Looks like the most recent firware update resolved rge kast of the bugs I was having. When I first got the headunit it would fail to connect the wireless carplay 1/4 of the time, which was a PIA. I updated the firmware and now it connects 100% of the time. This head unit looks great, is fast, sounds great and is loaded with features. My only crtitcal feedback is that the auto diming feature is BS, doesnt work, I had to set it on a timer. Other than that, its great.

Wireless Carplay and a clean modern update

I did some serious soul-searching before I bought this head unit. I bought a used 2011 that I'm actually really liking -- but the sound in this thing was as bad as it gets. I was leasing a newer vehicle that had more modern bells and whistles, and I really got used to having Carplay and a rearview camera. I wanted to bring my new car up to speed with modern times. After reviewing Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer decks, I settled on Pioneer because they have great review with Apple CarPlay and they seemed to have hit a home run with their newest series, which features both wired AND wireless Carplay. Basically, when I enter the car, the stereo recognizes my phone without any hassle instantly, and begins playing music, loads up info, texts, contacts, calendar events, etc - it's amazing. I like the built-in Maps settings -- the 6.8" display gets the full map, and the phone (which is mounted on a dock on the dash) gets the detailed play-by-play directions... so you have both text and visuals to keep you on target. A nice plus. I haven't even used this yet, but this head unit is also Alexa compatible - and although it is a bit more of a pain to set up since it uses your phone as a hotspot - it will be nice to have Alexa be able to communicate with some of my home devices from the comfort of my car. Now on to the most important part- the sound! The quality of tone and adjustability of this stereo leave nothing to be desired. I am a producer and mixer of all kinds of acoustic, electric and electronic music, so I wanted a balanced, non-hyped sound that could deliver clean low end and have the adjustability that i knew I would want to make me happy. I didn't need roof shaking bass - just plenty of clean power that didn't cause distortion and/or get mushy when turned up. Well there's almost TOO much flexibility. There are lots of dropdown menus that let you adjust many different parameters, but in the end it also sounds great just set FLAT. The graphic EQ is 13-band, easy to customize, and saves two user settings so you can compare and contrast with one click. I also got new speakers installed a couple days after getting the head unit installed, and I added a Pioneer Digital low-profile sub that has an amp built in and is short enough to fit under the seat. With a set of decent speakers for the front and back doors, a simple subwoofer to take the low end load off of the coax speakers, and this new head unit, I am getting all the volume, clarity and punch I would ever want. Honestly - I'm sure there are "Hi-Fi" setups that can deliver more -- but in a moving car, with road noise, windows open, etc... there's a potential of a lot of money being lost for literally no gain. I'm really impressed with the quality of tone and how much it has impacted even the stock speakers. But with a reasonable upgrade of speakers, this is a really great way to bring your vehicle up to state-of-the-art quality. With COVID here in our foreseeable future, I'm spending more time in my car than I thought - either just taking drives, making Zoom meetings away from pets, kids, etc, and ultimately just enjoying alone time. Music is a big part of my life, and now I can enjoy the quality and modernized feel of a new car - custom tuned to the exact specs I wanted - at a fraction of the price of what it would cost to add a more premium package to a new car purchase.

I was hesitant to buy this after looking at the negative reviews. But all those reviews were old and posted when this radio was first released. Mine was manufactured June 2023 and it came with relatively new firmware on it but I decided to update it anyways so now it’s been a month and I haven’t had any issues with it freezing or tuning off. Wireless CarPlay has been great on my iPhone 15 pro

Great unit, I have had it in my car for 6 months now. The only draw back is the its advertised as being able to screen share wirelessly and I have not had any luck being able to do so. Other the than the screen is clear and touch functions are nice. and the wireless android auto connects with ease.

I purchased this audio deck about a month ago. Upgraded from the 4200 model, and I'm loving the experience. Initially there was some lag on the screek. However, there was an available update after installation that I could upload via Wi-Fi. The upload seemed to improve the stabilisation of the screen lag. Overall, I love the sound and quality of music and fermentation utilize with this deck. I will definitely encourage others to purchase it.

I recently purchased this receiver to replace my OEM stereo in my 2011 Kia Optima. It has been great since the installation! I got this installed by Geek Squad and they did an amazing job, the guy at Arrowhead Best Buy in Arizona was amazing and knew exactly what to do, set up everything and was ready to go when I got there after about 2 hours. The wireless CarPlay works great and connects right away to my phone, it has helped me to keep my eyes on the road and give a better look to the interior in my car. It also made my car a little bit more louder and it can be customized for your personal use. I got the Maestro Datalink with this as well and it works perfect with it. Gives me an update on my tire pressure, plenty of gauges and battery checks that I didn’t have with my old stereo. I’ve been happy with my purchase and will give an update on it after a few months.
