I purchased this to replace the factory nav unit in my 2011 Toyota 4Runner in order to bring it into this decade. Pros: -wireless CarPlay works great, sounds great, looks great -used maestro to integrate factory backup camera and telemetry from the car. Works great, even shows tire pressure and temp in individual tires and which door is open which is something the Toyota doesn’t have a way to display stock in this year model. Maestro also integrates the factory amp and sub in this truck. Cons: -no multi-touch gestures…can’t expand maps by pinching or spreading fingers -occasional random reboots, this has improved with a firmware update I performed, but it still happens but infrequently. - 3 antennnas: AM/FM/HD, WiFi AP, & GPS. The Best Buy installer buried the WiFi & GPS antennas in my dash and it was causing navigation issues. I think it uses both the phone and headunit gps. I returned to Bestbuy and the problem was resolved with they moved the GPS antenna to the dash. -In non CarPlay mode, the headunit is underwhelming, the touch screen isn’t as accurate or sensitive ans the HD radio function is only available here. -Maybe there is a setting to control this but if I’m listening to HD radio and a phone is paired via CarPlay, if you open any app that has AV capabilities on the phone (Instagram, FB, etc) , the headunit automatically changes the input away from radio to the phone. -Aside from a firmware upgrade, I’ve never gotten the Pioneer CarAVAssit app to work properly to customize wallpaper etc, it’s not straightforward or intuitive. -gauges from maestro integration don’t look that great. Summary: it lacks a level of polish I would expect for a unit in this price range. I don’t regret the purchase, it solved my issue of modernizing my paid for truck and staving off my urge to purchase. If I could stay in CarPlay mode is where this unit shines (I’ve never tried android auto and can’t speak to that.) if I could access all functions from within CarPlay (Including HD radio and car/engine telemetry) and thereby stay in the CarPlay full time, I’d be way happier.

I bought this through Best Buy but I ended up returning it after 30 days and bought a Kenwood 10.1”(DMX1037S) HD floating display. It has nice features like hotspot connectivity and Alexa, which my Kenwood does not,but the only problem is that I had it connected to my iPhone hotspot but I would always have to reconnect every time I restarted the car because it would lose hotspot connection.I like that the fact that the screen didn’t have a lot of buttons and didn’t take up too much space so you could have a 9 inch screen that was actually roughly around 9 inches (my Kenwood has a few buttons and a knob, so it’s much larger than 10.1”), so it doesn’t take up too much space in the place where you put it. The OS on the Kenwood is much more reliable and fluid than the Pioneer, that’s why I suggest they improve the software with firmware updates, which I think will come along but I didn’t wanna wait for them. I also like the fact that Pioneer offers this model in a 9 inch and 10 inch version, Kenwood only offers this model so far in 10.1 inch.

Awesome radio installed on my 2021 kia sedona van. Stock backup camera looks awesome thru the big screen, sounds great everything works great except FM radio reception is next to nothing compared to stock, my kenwood, and jvc stereos i had in here. Sirius and wireless Android auto work great though.i also added the maestro rr2 for vehicle info etc

Upgraded stereo on’01 Dodge Dakota adding a backup camera to the truck as well. Wireless Apple Play works quick and flawless. The sound is amazing, exactly what you’d expect from Pioneer. Really bring a modern touch to an old truck. Love it!

Its a wonderful looking screen. Carplay features are helpful, but the unit can be a bit laggy. Sometimes when playing a song it will cut in and out. This has a lot of potential, but as of now its a bit buggy. Thinking about returning it for another unit, but the other units im interested in have larger screens than this one.

This unit works really well bonus the total tech was able to get me free installation. It allows my car to have car play so I don't have to mess with the Bluetooth everytime I get in the car. The only thing I'd recommend getting is the back up camera that works with the unit without it, the car uses the default camera but opts for a fish eye view.

This radio is excellent. Seamlessly syncs with my phone for Android auto. Has car play for Apple as well. To use Alexa you have to have a Hotspot on your phone, but works great. You can access YouTube with the on board web browser, but need a parking brake bypass for it to work while driving. For those of you that have the bypass, you can access Netflix for those long drives via the browser. You simply set it up through your pioneer app. Simply has every option u could want including Sirius xm radio

I like everything about this unit but the price is way to high. This would sell better at a $700 head unit instead. They need to work more on the software because now after owning for a month it’s seems a little more laggy and Bluetooth connection isn’t strong. Other than that it’s a real solid unit. I would recommend if it’s at a discounted price.

Had a lot of other radios in the past and this one is my favorite. I love the wireless car play and how it auto connects as soon as I get in the car. Touch screen is snappy and easy to navigate. I also love that I can customize the background through the app. I had this radio for three years and absolutely love it.

    Overall a Nice Unit

The USB-C connection on the back of the unit is a severely flawed design. The USB-C is a very thin connector and you are expected to plug the supplied straight connector into the back of the unit. As you insert your radio into the mounting position, there is nothing to support this weak connection point from breaking. As you push the unit in, you run out of clearance and there is a lot of stress placed on the connector. I've purchased two of these units (two vehicles) and after breaking the connector on the first installation, I was VERY careful during the install in the second vehicle and I STILL managed to break the weak USB-C connector. I did not contact Pioneer as I expected them to send me the same straight connector that can not handle the torque while installing the unit. I found some 90 degree cables that worked great, but sadly, I had to spend additional time and money to fix Pioneer's flawed design. Be sure to find a cable that supports OTG; More time and money to figure that out. Overall, the unit is ok. Screen is bright, adjustable screen positions is great, wireless carplay is convenient, iMaestro features work well, and stock speakers sound better now after playing with the sound options that are available. Would appreciate a faster response time. Updating the firmware through the iOS app was another exercise in patience; Absolutely terrible experience.

Replaced a Kenwood head unit in my RV. Pioneer never fails to please. This unit has a great display and works great in my installation. Sound quality is top notch for my older ears. Wireless Car Play is terrific. Would have been perfect if it had a volume knob, but these days..... The big display looks very much at home on the dash of the Sprinter van I installed it in.

The resolution is great. 720 is where we should be, not 480 like other displays. That said Pioneer doesn't make a 720 camera to go with this unit. I will be buying another manufacturer camera. I didn't replace my 480 unit to put a 720 display with a 480 camera. That said... firmware update was a nightmare, as at the time the FW was avail with the app, but not avail for download and no documentation on how to update it or what it provides. I spent hours figuring this out on my own only to see Pioneer update the information on their website a few days later. Guess that's part of being early. The touchscreen display seems a bit laggy compared to others on the market and that is a shame. Hopefully a FW update can fix this? There also seems to be wasted real-estate when customizing the display, especially for the Maestro gauges. In the menu system, the Maestro Module appears to take place of the 2nd camera input, so I believe you have to choose, one or the other, not both.. You also can't display both gauges from the Maestro and the Radar Detector info at the same time. This appears to be a Maestro RR2 limitation? Or maybe a limitation of the Pioneer working with the Maestro. Either way it's a bummer.. I have an Escort Radar detector hooked up to my Maestro RR2 and Pioneer. There is a setting in the Escort that needs to be changed. this isn't in any easily found documentation, without that change the Escort will error Laser non stop. Also I can't seem to get audio for the Escort notification to come out of my speakers. I am not sure if this an Escort issue, Maestro issue or Pioneer issue. Something needs to be updated/fixed otherwise this is a poor integration. The USB-C and HDMI ports are not recessed at all in the back of the unit, so that can really lead to some issues. I ended up not using the fragile HDMI cable in my car. The sound quality is a nice step up from my previous touch screen unit. I have been a fan of Pioneer's Network Mode for over 20 years now. I hope some FW updates help plolish these units as they have potential to be among the best on the aftermarket. Having the best specs with mediocre user experience isn't what I hope for.
