My first center speaker, starting off strong

Wanted to make a serious upgrade from my soundbar, and after much research decided to make my own 3.0 stereo system (which grew into a 3.2 stereo system). Every review I read about this speaker and the rest of the line of Andrew Jones speakers said that these speakers would give you the most performance for your money. Several weeks ago I visited Best Buy and listened to this speaker in comparison to 3 other brands that were on display. The other 3 brands were more expensive, but the Pioneers more than held their own against them. I finally splurged on this, the Pioneer bookshelf speakers and 2 Pioneer subwoofers, along with a Denon receiver. Ever since, I've been enjoying wonderful sound while watching Blu-rays and television. I'm no audio expert, not yet, but I honestly do feel that my money couldn't have been better spent. Maybe other speakers can outperform this center speaker, and the other speakers in the Pioneer line, but you would have to spend quite a bit more just to top these. The quality of the speakers and the affordable price makes these a steal. Do yourself a favor, save your money and buy these and get more for your money that you did end up spending.

I purchased this because in store it offered more than just voice off surround sound, when i got home i realized that these speakers are better used strictly for voice, I went back and purchased the Klipsch brand with I would rate 5 stars

BEST FOR THE PRICE!

Best for the price hands down!
The internal, 6 element crossover is a major reason
why this unit destroys the competition in this price range.
Also, the box design & heft contributes a great deal.
KEEP IN MIND:
This center speaker is honestly designed for "home" theater use,
not for a dedicated, true, Huge, custom theater room.
If you've gotta' custom room where you can truly push
commercial cinema volume levels?
This center speaker or any other under $200 isn't the right choice.
You'll need a worthy speaker that can throw full range sound
at cinema levels without straining.
My choice would be a 2 way, horn loaded, tower
or large bookshelf unit for center duties.
Now, for the regular livingroom system like most of us run?
This Pioneer center speaker's tough to beat for $100.
I write this review as an owner of this speaker.
My system is a 105 watts per channel 7.1 setup driven by
a Yamaha AVR assisted by a 450 watt BIC F12 subwoofer.
My Pioneer center speaker rests atop the BIC F12 sub
so the center channel sound is never anemic or shallow.
If you can?
Always place the sub under the center speaker.
Do it just once & you'll hear what I mean.
In case you can't tell?
I am 100% satisfied with my Pioneer center channel.
The only way I'd choose a different center speaker is if...
my budget increases drastically enuff to call for a new
speaker setup entirely, or, I am building a new theater room.
Closing advice:
If you must spend more than $100 for your center speaker?
SVS, ELAC & JBL are the only 3 companies I'd even consider.
Why?
SVS center speakers at $350, align a midrange driver above
the centered tweeter which is the correct way to do design
a center speaker.
ELAC's center because the uni-Q aka coaxial mid & tweeter design
& their use of aluminum cones as well.
JBL because at $299 you can buy the Studio 230 line
which can be used in all speaker positions for a true
commercial cinema sound system!
That JBL Studio 230 speaker line truly is amazing!
Hang them up in the Dolby lab suggested array,
powering em' with a Yamaha Aventage 7.2.4 ATMOS-DTS-X-AUROS 3D AVR and 2 SVS subs?
I doubt anyone's system will sound better than the system
that I just described.
I realize that I went off the Pioneer path, but, it's "sound" advice
which I left here on that path.
FINALLY:
THIS PIONEER CENTER SPEAKER ROCKS!
~ peace

Great sounding speaker

I was in the hunt at the beginning of this year, 2015. My center speaker was old and it didn't work anymore. I have 8 speakers in my living room hooked up to a Yamaha HD 7.1 receiver, which I purchased from BestBuy. So with me, I'm very very fussy. I read and review everything! I even shop by model numbers. It's about "getting" what you spend. I read all the reviews on this speaker. I went into Best Buy to examine it. After looking it over, I purchased it. Solid wood construction. I liked the wire hook up. I liked even the construction of the cones. Yes, different construction on cones - different sound and strength. The sound is great. The sound is clear. It added the voice range I was looking for.

Up-Grade
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
In the process of my up-grade
for the front 3 speakers of my 7.1
surround system.
My 1st upgrade was the BIC F12 Sub-Woofer
then I built 2 Klipsch SF-1 Towers for the
front Left & Right channels.
Found them at a rummage sale for $25.
That was for the pair!
I then bought hybrid replacement drivers
for the deteriorated cones that were still in
the speaker boxes.
With those fixed & calibrated into their respective
spots?
I now await the arrival of the Pioneer Center speaker
to replace my Panasonic MTM style Center speaker.
Its a great little center speaker but it's time to upgrade
it too, so the Pioneer's on it's way.
I give it a tentative 5 stars, as I know Andrew Jones
designs pure magic.
I'll update this next week after I receive & install the
new Pioneer Center speaker.

One of the better (best?) speakers at this level

Just like any new speaker, it will take a little time to break in, but this speaker is already great right out of the box. I don't have any expensive, high end speakers for a direct comparison, but this is an amazing speaker in this price range. The physical size is larger than most 5 channel systems or HTIB's, but it's worth it if you have the space. Although I've learned RMS wattage doesn't matter as much as companies advertise, this doesn't take much to do it's job. I've had it on my Marantz 1602 [50w/ch] and my Onkyo RC360 [100w/ch] and it's great on both. Highly recommended! BE SURE YOU READ THE DIMENSIONS FIRST! :)

great center channel speaker for bedroom system

I was re-arranging my systems, and ended up needing a center channel speaker so that the receiver sounded right and would set up. I got a great surprise with the sound quality of the speaker, clear, and crisp. The only thing I dislike is the curved design, but with the two rubber gaskets they supply (make sure you dont toss them away by accident since they are taped to the styrofoam), it will sit just about anywhere. I am very happy with this speaker.

There are other seakers out there that sound better, but cost a lot more. These are great for those on a budget, as they sound as good or better than anything else in the same price range. I have three of these with one as a horizontal center, and the other two standing vertically as left and right mains. They are power efficient, versatile, and are good for music and movies, especially when paired with a good subwoofer.

GREAT CHEAP CENTER CHANNEL IF U HAVE SPACE

ONLY THING I CAN SAY BAD ABOUT THE SPEAKER IS THE AWKWARD SHAPE AND BULKY SIZE. GREAT SOUND FOR CHEAP, AND DOES GREAT WITH PIONEER BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS AS WELL. YOU CAN DO A FULL 5.1 WITH ABOUT $349(B4 TAX) IF U GET 4 PIONEER BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS, THIS CENTER, AND THE PIONEER SUB FOR ABOUT $99(U WILL ALREADY HAVE TO HAVE RECEIVER AND SPEAKER WIRE). GREAT BUY....

I love this addition to my other Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers.
Great sound, blended perfect with the previous Pioneer AJ editions.
Shape seems odd at first, but helps blend in a home theater environment when they do not reflect from projector.

I'm not sure the best way to test out a center channel speaker, and I am not able to compare this to other centers...but, it reproduces TV/movie dialogue very clearly, and also sounds great when listening to music in multi-channel stereo mode. For the price, I believe this speaker is an excellent value while still providing great sound quality.

When I "test drove" the Pioneer Andrew Jones collection at Best Buy, I was really only there to purchase replacement left/right main speakers and a sub. I already had an "adequate" center channel and rears. This SP-C22 was the only center channel speaker on the test display. It sounded amazing during the movie clips I tested. The clincher was, Best Buy was running a sale on it: $69. I was already about to spend $375, the center channel seemed like a freebie at that price. Am I glad I bought it. At about three times the size of my previous center speaker, not only does it drive dialogue unbelievably well, I barely got it to slip onto the upper (glass!) shelf of my TV stand. Connections are bare wire to gold plated screws - no banana plugs. The included rubber base pads enable you to tilt the speaker at any angle so you can direct it right at your head depending on where you sit. It goes great with Pioneer's SP-FS52 towers and SW-8MK2 subwoofer. All of these are part of Pioneer's Andrew Jones collection (he is Pioneer's chief speaker engineer), so you know you're getting something you can brag to your friends about!
