4k120 doesn't work, 8k enhanced doesn't either.

First off I want to let you know that everything I say about the receiver will hold true for every receiver no matter what brand it is, no matter how expensive or cheap and will likely be a problem until 2023 at the earliest. We need a new HDMI 2.1 chipset in these boxes because the one every company uses...is badly broken.
Also yes I tried many many different cables.
I had MANY issues with this receiver. First it's advertised as supporting the full HDMI 2.1 spec or now the "high speed" or "8k enhanced, 4k120". However they want to name it... It doesn't work.
I've tried 4 other receivers, 2 Denon, 2 Marantz (bought direct from Denon/Marantz) and now this which I got at best buy but all 3 are technically the same company. All 5 of them them had essentially the same issues.
If you want to play your Xbox series x, PC, or anything else that can do 4k at 120hz (frames per second) with VRR, HDR etc then you're out of luck.
This receiver would accept the signal and even support the features like it's supposed to BUT there were tons of problems.
When playing a game the video would get corrupted data so the screen would do many odd things like flash, have weird green bars blinking at the bottom quarter of the image and worst of all it would lose signal in the middle of playing then 2-5 seconds later it would come back. Obviously this is not how it's supposed to work or ideal.
There were also times where for some reason it wouldn't properly make the dchp (copy protection) handshake with either my Xbox, ps5, PC, Blu-ray player etc and I'd have to shut the receiver off then turn it back on.
If you're trying to play with HDMI 2.1 compliant PC hardware there are even more issues. I have a 3080ti FTW3 Ultra which is fully compatible and HDMI 2.1 "special amazing edition" and there were major audio issues. All the audio formats weren't supported, audio would come from the wrong channel or not at all and the worst issue is it caused my PC to constantly play this ding noise in an attempt to drive me mad.
Every time I booted my PC I'd have to setup the audio settings again. Often when I started a game the audio wouldn't play. Id have to quit the game, go into the audio settings and set it up again even though I had just done it moments before... Then load the game and pray I got audio.
These receivers were defective off the assembly line thanks to the Panasonic HDMI 2.1 chipset. They claimed they fixed the issue with an addon board that's inside if you bought it after 2020 and outside if you bought it before. You would get the "fixed" chipset for free but unfortunately it's not fixed.
So here we are gamers... We will probably have to wait until 2023 or maybe 2024 for new models with actual fully updated and fixed hardware. They tend to make a bunch of models then do small updates to them for about 4-5 years. This chipset came out in 2019... It's only 2022 so we wait.
There is a semi work around but it does defeat the purpose of buying a receiver. You can use an USB C to HDMI 2.0b or higher converter. Then you install an amazing program called virtual audio cable and it will let you output any audio format in any way you want. It essentially tricks your PC into thinking anything you want to be an audio device so I had video out to my TV to avoid all the crazy video issues and virtual audio cable outputting 7.1 Atmos out through USB which then got converted to HDMI via the $12 converter which went to my receiver. You can fix any audio sync issues in 10 seconds using the virtual audio cable software.
This solution works but it's not a great way to go considering you paid for the receiver to use it not so you could so crazy things with software and converter's along with 1 cable for video going to your tv and another with just audio going to the receiver.
eArc you say? Doesn't help. You will get virtualualized Atmos but you bought a receiver to use it...you didn't buy it so your TV would handle it.
So if you're a gamer then do yourself a big favor and pass. Keep using what you have if you can and the virtual audio cable trick will also work on any receiver so you can pump audio into the receiver from a PC and video to the TV.
For consoles... You're basically stuck with eArc unfortunately. There are devices that will solve the issue but the 1 device whose name I won't even mention out of pure HD FURY costs nearly as much as a receiver.
Hopefully this problem is fixed sooner rather than later. I want my 11.2 back and I want it with proper video as promised by receivers like this.
