The Plantronics Backbeat Fit 505 wireless headphones are a very nice option for a comfortable listening experience at home or while working out. There are many options for playing music from your phone/tablet/laptop: internal speakers, external speakers, earphones (wired and wireless) and headphones (wired and wireless.) Each has advantages and may be best for a specific use so a serious music listener will want to invest in several different types. First, wired or wireless? The choice here is whether you willing to be encumbered by a wire connecting your device to your ears? In most cases, it is an annoyance and can even cause accidents, so I believe that for active users like me wireless earphones are the best choice. If you run, bike or work out regularly you certainly want to be free from wires and cannot use external speakers. Even for casual listening at a coffee shop or home, wireless units are a great convenience. I like wireless earphones and have several types, including an expensive self-contained earbuds which fit in the ear and have no connecting wires and another set which has a cable connecting the right earbud to the left earbud. However, the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 505 are the first set of wireless headphones I have owned. How do they compare to the small, earbud-type I normally use? Included in the box (see photo) are the headphones, instructions, a USB charging cable, a 3.5 mm direct-connect wire cable and a nice mesh drawstring pouch to hold everything. There aren’t any useful instructions included, just a lot of safety notices in twelve languages of tiny type. To obtain setup/use information, Plantronics has a free app (of course!) that you download to your phone (either Android or iPhone versions) which gives you additional instructions and a (fairly useless) “find my headset” feature. The latter makes an “off hook” sound on the earphone but it really isn’t loud enough to help you locate the headphones. The headphones have a special nano-coating to protect against moisture and sweat. The earphones have substantial, 40 mm drivers with super-comfortable memory-foam cushions around the speakers. First step is to charge the ear buds. Just attach the charging cable, plug it into your computer or a USB outlet and LED lights will go out when they are fully charged (about 2.5 hours when fully discharged.) Plantronics says a full charge will provide eighteen hours playing time but I have used my set for at least twenty hours before recharging. Next, pair the earbuds with your phone via Bluetooth. An audio prompt guides you and the app gives full instructions, but my phone paired them very quickly and without drama. You can now start listening to music immediately. The Fit 505 speakers have a beautiful, faithful reproduction of mid-ranges, clear highs without being too bright and plenty of bass. My standards for speaker quality are Cannonball Adderly’s “Country Preacher” and Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue” albums. I know every note on both of these classics and the slightest deviation is like nails on a blackboard. These headphones passed that tough test with gold stars for quality, sound level and range. I cannot stress enough how comfortable these headphones are. They are very light (a bit over 5 ounces) and have plenty of adjustment range to enable a good fit. The earphones are not very large (about 2.7 inches in diameter) so they are “on ear” rather than “over ear” but they provide adequate sound isolation. You can wear them for many hours in perfect comfort and your ears will thank you afterwards. I know that some will use them for running but my main use is quiet listening. They have a reasonably snug fit and I could see using them on a treadmill or while lifting weights but I think for really active workouts it would be best to switch to wireless earbuds. Like all good earphones these will respond to various voice commands, allow you to interact with Siri, take calls, etc. Each earphone has some controls. The left side will raise/lower volume, skip tracks (forward and backward), pause and repeat tracks and has a microphone for use during calls. The right side turns the earphones on/off, handles Bluetooth pairing, activates Siri and takes calls. Full instructions are included in the app but the use is pretty intuitive. The Bluetooth connection is super-reliable. I have used the earbuds in my home and can walk 35 feet from my phone without a connection break. If you lose connection it quickly restores itself when you come back into range. Bottom line - the Plantronics BackBeat 505 earbuds are an excellent value for serious music fans who want a very comfortable headset, superb music reproduction and a dependable workout partner. You will be glad you chose them!!!

Hello, this is a review for the Plantronics - Backbeat FIT 505 Wireless On-Ear Headphones. I primarily use these for exercise, and up until now I have been using the Plantronics BackBeat Fit Bluetooth Headphones (in-ear) which have been fantastic. How do these compare? Do on ear headphones really work for intense exercise? Read on to find out. The first thing to notice about these is that they are extremely lightweight while also maintaining great build quality. This does mean that while I am running on the treadmill, doing crunches on the decline bench, working the heavy and speed bags, etc that they don't budge. I never have to readjust them, and that was my biggest concern. Sound quality is great for exercise. It is mostly up to the type of music you listen to. These have a LOT of bass. Some rap almost had too much low end. Overall very good though, and plenty loud to drown out any exercise equipment I happened to be using. Controls are very intuitive. More so than the in ear model. I just gave them a once over when I took them out of the box, and the first time I actually put them on everything was just where it should be. I felt like I had been using them for a long time. The bluetooth on these is fantastic. VERY quick to connect, and never any interference. Battery life is equally impressive. I have been listening to these for several hours a day for about a week, and it still reports a high battery level when I turn them on. PROS: lightweight doesn't move around during exercise fits my big head handles sweat like a champ intuitive controls great bluetooth great battery CONS: some rap has too much bass in these not for audiophiles To summarize I would say that if you are looking for an on ear set of headphones for exercise these are what you want. If you are an audiophile only out for the best sound quality possible spend a few more bucks and look elsewhere. As for me Plantronics continues to impress. Thanks!

The setup Plantronics Backbeat FIT was simple. Upon turning it on, it already had a high battery, which I loved. My iPhone was able to find it rather quickly and pairing up was instantaneous. The key feature of these headphones is that the battery life is quite long-lasting, a full 18 hours. After several hours of use, I haven’t had to charge them from when they were out of the box and it still says high battery. Also, they are lightweight in design, so they don’t feel heavy on your head. It works great when listening to phone calls as well and works with Siri or Cortana. The performance for listening to all kinds of audio was satisfactory. I heard some Spanish rock music and it was able to handle the bass. I use them mostly for listening to podcasts and the performers’ voices come through loud and clear. The headphones meets my expectations audio wise, but they do lack in comfort. For that reason, I deduct 2 stars, as comfort is a big key component of wearing headphones. Since the ear cups are meant to be over the ear and not around the ear, they push down on your ears quite a bit. For people who wear glasses, this can be very uncomfortable because it will be mushing part of your ear against the legs of your glasses. I tried them without my glasses as well, for a fair review. I still felt discomfort after a good hour. The complaint isn’t with the audio itself, just with the discomfort the headphones provides. I do have another Plantronics headset for the Xbox One that covers the entire ear and those are not uncomfortable at all. The brand is trustworthy, but this specific product may be discomforting to some. The price for the headphones is a great value for its audio performance. I highly recommend this product for people who do not wear glasses and whose head may not be as big or wide. It would be a perfect gift for teenagers.

    Best On-Ear Headphones Available

If you're looking for a set of bluetooth (BT) headphones, this may be the best set of headphones - FOR THIS PRICE POINT. I have other headphones both on ear and around the ear... and I prefer covering the whole ear. It's just more comfortable and tends to offer more privacy and noise reduction capabilities to others around you. PROS: ------- * For the price point, the sound is VERY good. Of course "very good" is also dependent upon what music player you are connected to. Some devices don't allow for a graphic equalizer or tone type. In those cases, the sound could be quite stale. * Nice design & look... they look current. * Easy to identify Left and Right earpiece as an L and R are inside each ear cup * Easy setup and connectivity. I have not had any connection loss to my Samsung Galaxy device * Yes, the battery lasts a LONG time. Many wireless earbuds only last about 5-6 hours max - these go for about triple that time. I listen for about 2-3 hours per day, and I can go a whole week before recharging. * It comes with a little mesh bag so you can include the charging cable and 3.5mm male/male cord if the battery dies and you still need to use. * Comfortable, soft ear cups.... until....(read on) CONS: ------- * These headphones being a new product and size not an issue, I REALLY wish the charging port was USB-C instead of a micro-USB. USB-C charges faster and the charging tip can be flipped in either direction unlike micro-USB. * ...comfortable until after about an hour due to pressure on the ears. I had to remove for a couple of minutes and then put back on. * Definitely can't be used for running or exercising unless you are a slow mover and aren't bending over frontwards or backwards. They are heavy enough that they will fall off. For a brisk workout, you may need to stick with earbuds instead. For walking on a treadmill, you're probably ok... if you head shakes a lot for whatever you're doing, these may not be for you. * The biggest disappointment is the Plantronics app. You don't expect it to do much, but in my case, it continued to crash. It was unresponsive mostly then I got the crash pop-up (I'm on an Android phone - Samsung Galaxy Sx and Note 8). My biggest takeaway is that even though they sound good, I'm not sure I'd still pick them over a more expensive over-the-ear unit. I like to be immersed in sound and not have my ears hurt after time listening. Over-the-ear headphones can be used all day with no discomfort. The main reason I wouldn't use these is due to the eventual discomfort I had after they had been used for a while. This may not affect you as much but it did for me. I love the battery life as that may be a great selling point for most people. Not many people want to go a few hours and have to recharge. They should have to recharge once per day max... when you go to bed. If you can get around added pressure on your ears, this would definitely be the headphones for you. Pricewise, they offer the best sound and features over the rest of the pack. Now it's time to fix the app for compatibility issues...

The Plantronics Backbeat FIT 505 headphones are quite good; they are lightweight, comfortable to wear for hours (especially for being on-ear), they sound great, and they look nice. As with most new BT devices, pairing these with my phone was effortless. They were fully charged right out of the box, so I decided to try them out while I was installing some hard-wood flooring. I'm not a huge fan of on-the-ear headphones, but these are quite comfortable; the headband is adjustable as you'd expect, and the ear-cups have plenty of rotational play, so even when I was installing flooring (walking, turning, kneeling, bending over, moving items) the headphones stayed in place... and they were extremely comfortable. I listened to talk radio as well as music, and I was pleased with the sound reproduction for both. The only thing that bothered me was that the noise isolation didn't seem to be that good (at least not what I've experienced from other headphones). When my air compressor would kick on (about 20 ft away), no amount of volume made any difference; whatever I was listening to just got drowned out. Granted, an air compressor is fairly loud, but I noticed the same problem when outside in windy conditions... although not as bad. However, when just using these around the house, the amount of noise isolation they provide seems fine... they keep out external noises such as the TV or phone conversations. All in all, I think this product is worth a look if you're looking for a set of on-the-ear headphones; they're very comfortable, sound good and they're not very expensive.

I had fallen out of love with on-the-ear headphones. They're usually bulky, heavy and just unnecessary unless you're tethered to a great stereo or blocking out airplane noise. The Plantronics Backbeat Fit 505 has changed my mind. It's really lightweight, not (too) bulky, and has all the controls you need logically placed. It syncs super fast via Bluetooth with my phone. The sound is middle of the road for my tastes. I'm a little bit snobby about audio because I listen to a wide range of music. It's a little bass-heavy for me and not always crystal clear on the highs. Where it really excels is for phone calls. I spend a significant amount of time on conference calls and earbuds rarely work well. The Fit 505 shuts out the world for me and my conf. call participants and they hear me clearly. Never get that "hey where the heck are you? Can you please just speak directly into your phone?!". The other bonus is that people don't walk into my office and start talking to me because they can see the headphones. At the gym, it's sweat-resistant thus far, and pump out workout music nicely. I dig the nicely detailed black mesh bag too. Final plus, around 100 bucks. Nice.

Good Sound Quality for The Price

I’ve been very happy with the Plantronics wired & wireless telephone headsets that I’ve used for many years; so, I had high expectations for these wireless sport headphones as well. They fit securely and the sound quality is surprisingly good. However, I wear glasses/sunglasses when working out, so they become uncomfortable very quickly. Overall, these offer a good value for the price for workout headphones. PROS: Pairing was quick & simple with no connectivity issues Sound is very good with surprisingly strong base that I didn’t expect at this price point Construction is light & sturdy, yet flexible Easy to use on-ear controls Sweat-resistant - easy to wipe clean & coated for water resistance Optional 3.5mm cable included Secure fit for both jogging & gym/P90X-type active workouts - these didn’t budge or make any creaking noises the way many other headphones do. Although these aren’t noise-canceling, they do block out most of the noise found in a gym environment. CONS: The voice prompts (power on/off, battery level, etc.) are too loud, no matter how low you turn down the volume Ever-present, low white noise behind music/talk when listening to content Very uncomfortable when wearing glasses - ear cups sit on the ear (rather than on the head & around the ear) causing the ear to be pinched between the temple of the glasses & the cup. Incredibly short charging cable

These are much better than I anticipated. I Love that these can be either wireless bluetooth, or traditional wired headphones! Sound quality via bluetooth is exceptionally clear, as well as with using them wired. The included wired 3.5 adapter is 4 ft long. These dont take very long to fully charge (less thwn 2 hours), via micro usb cable, and will hold a charge for nearly a full day of listening. The ear cushion is very comfortable, without any discomfort. I like the drawstring storage bag that is included. Ive yet to use these in the rain or snow, as theyre suppose to be designed for. I imagine they would work fine, as the drivers are covered in a rubber/silicone material.

Overall these wireless headphones are just shy of flawless. Lets talk about sound. I have owned several pairs of headphones in the past... most have been lacking in the sound category... this pair has not. Deep base, crisp sound, very good overall. The charging dock is a mini sd plug in (I think) which is awesome... as this plug is a little more common that the other sorts, which makes it easier to find replacements if needed. The one area that I do not like is the size. Maybe I simply have a big head. But it is juuuuust shy of comfortable fitting my head. If it were even 1/2 inch larger it would be a 5/5. All in all worth the buy and I would highly recommend.

I use these mainly for listening to podcasts but also for music while jogging. Sound is clear and uncolored, if somewhat lacking in dynamics, which to me is perfectly fine for uncritical listening. Bluetooth connection has been flawless during the month I’ve had these, and battery life is excellent. Fit is a bit tight and you might find yourself adjusting it once or twice during a run to alleviate pressure. Best feature has been the earcups, which have been treated with something that absolutely repels/resists sweat, which is pretty amazing here in Florida. All in all a good product at a fair price.

Bought these after returning a pair of the Skullcandy BT headphones because they weren't comfortable (and they were huge and made me look like Princess Leia). These cost a little more, but I liked the fact that they were smaller, thinner, and could be used while on a treadmill. The sound quality is good, much better than I expected from Bluetooth. They are comfortable to wear, though you'll need to lift them away from your ears for a second every 30 mins or so in my experience. I haven't run down the charge yet, but it looks like the rated battery life is legit so far. I like the controls built in to the side of the left headphone, that makes it really easy to skip tracks or play/pause. And it's a small thing, but I love the giant L and R inside the headphone cups that make it extremely easy to know which is which with a quick glance, very smart. Also, it pairs with my phone AND my computer when I turn it on, which is also a neat feature. I use them 90% in the office, and they block out sound well. No one has complained about sound bleed, so I assume they're good at keeping the sound away from your coworkers. Are they on par with more expensive headphones? No clue, I don't own more expensive headphones. Do they sound good to my ears? Yes. My requirements were good, clear sound, long battery life, and comfort, and this checked all three. Personally I think the price is excellent for what you get. If you're in the market for some compact, on-ear Bluetooth headphones, definitely consider these.

I have alot of headphones, like over 15 pairs! Wired, wireless, in-ear, over-ear, over-the-head, behind-the neck and more. I was excited to try these because Plantronics is known for the headsets in the business place - you probably have one at work - so I assumed the headphones with be good as well. I was right. Moderately light for an over-the-ear headset, there is ample padding to make wearing for over 3 hours not an issue. Stylish looks and good sound are also positive features! There is a plug in for an 1/8" audio cord if you want to use on the airplane and watch a movie - a bonus not found on many other headphones. Pairing was a breeze - couldn't be easier. They came charged and ready to use immediately. Battery life is exceptional at 15+ hours. Can you use as a substitute for a headset? Yes, it does have a microphone, but for me (I'm very picky on call quality), it doesn't cut it and I will only use as a headphone for listening to music, etc. Buttons are in an easy to access location so operation while on your head is simple. If you need some new headphones, these may have the versatility, quality and affordability you need!

These are very solid headphones. It's a same to see they are going on clearance now, but I am about to grab another set now. I highly recommend these after using them on and off for the last year. Originally got these for my (then) 8 year old, and they survived his abuse for a few months before he did not need them as much. I began using them more frequently over the last 4 months, and the only complaint I have had is that the tightness gets to be a bit much when wearing my glasses (like others have said). This is a good and bad thing since they stay in place when moving around a bit (light exercise), but it is uncomfortable when I am just sitting at the computer working. Battery life is excellent. Audio is excellent for the price point.

I have now owned these for 2.5 years and they are still going strong. I have worn them to the gym regularly and have worn them out in the rain and have had zero issues. The sound is not going to blow you away like a headset 2.5 times the price, but it is still good especially for working out or casual listening. They hold a charge better than any headphones I have owned before and I appreciate the was in packing them in a backpack when I travel with the ear pieces folding flat. I buy a lot of electronic products and I have to say that this is one of my purchases ever. I would recommend these.
